One sore point for Curry was the attempt last year to recruit Caitlin Clark to join his brand, according to people familiar with the matter. He and the company pursued the phenom, but Under Armour’s offer trailed the total value of Nike’s pitch, the people said. Clark, now a star in the WNBA, opted to sign with Nike.

Curry and his advisers became frustrated by what they viewed as underinvestment in the brand, according to people familiar with the situation who asked to not be identified because details of the relationship are private. Meanwhile, the division’s sales weren’t meeting the company’s or Curry’s expectations, the people said.

  1. Lets be real, that was never gonna happen. Even Steph signing with UA was cause he was looked over by the bigger brands.

  2. Curry left because nobody cares about Under Armour shoes.

I wore UA flip flops to the grocery store and people said What R Those and started laughing.  I immediately left my cart in the middle of a long line and ran out the store crying.

  3. Curry should have the best selling shoe outside Jordan’s by now and reinvested it. Every kid wants/thinks they can emulate him. Insane bag fumble from day 1 that fell into their lap

  4. Conspiracy me says Nike forced Durant to sign with the warriors to kill the under armour hype that was going crazy 2016 times. This is confirmation of my delusion

  5. Curry got Kent Bazmore paid with underarmor. Cant blame them for not listening although Caitlin Clark would ball Kent up and down the court. I actually like bazmore too haha.

  6. Under Armour is gonna go bankrupt or bought out (if so then by PE) within the next few years. Very dire situation there. I know this well as a Maryland fan

  7. I’ll miss them because you can get them for deep discounts on the UA website and they are really comfortable for someone like me in their early 40s

  8. I know Under Armour did a horrible job marketing Steph but if I’m honest, that specifically seems like an unrealistic expectation of them. Who else is even signed with UA? Lol

  9. No one cares about Under Armor. When I owned a pair, i went to a local baseball game and everyone was asking me what those were. For some reason, I kept tripping in them and more people kept staring at me shaking their heads. I ended up leaving early because my wife kept calling me. As I was heading back to the car, some kid hit a foul ball and landed right on my windshield. I ran towards my car to see the damage and tripped again tearing my acl.

I honestly think the Under Armor brand has some bad juju cause I gave them to my cousin and he tore his acl a month later.

  10. lol UA shoes are ugly. Plain and simple. Only people I knew that wore UA were the kids whose parents had money but were still trash at sports.

  11. Steph has some phenomenal hoop shoes, as a pure la fitness/church league hooper you can trust me. Not all are great but I loved the Curry 11s. A lot have good traction. I hope they stay like this wherever he goes

  12. I always had problem with the name Under Armour when they branch out beyond making tights and compression gear that goes “Under” your game jerseys. It just never made sense to me and for that reason I’ve never bought any of their shit.

  13. When your name is a hybrid of underwear and armpits you have a tough hill to climb. I am impressed they got as far as they did.

  14. Wasn’t no chance they was pulling up to that presentation spelling her name Kaitlyn Clark so this was always a fat chance.

It’s almost like me getting mad at my wife because she’s not coming home with ScarJo

  15. Dude I remember UA got Curry and Spieth when he was the next best thing in golf. I thought they would overtake Nike at one point, but that was clearly way off.

  16. Whoever came up with this narrative was cooking. Chef Curry left Under Armour because of money and not because they didn’t share his support of the WNBA. This is reminiscent of the leaked stories of Luka being a fat, lazy alcoholic after his trade last year.

  17. Think of all the people in your life who wear Under Armor.

I think of neighborhood dads who wear ball caps and equally likely to be on steroids or cocaine – who somehow made the effort to buy UA but could just buy Puma at Costco for $15 bucks and no one would even otherwise notice or care.

  18. I hate Under Armour. I live by Notre Dame Campus and all the athletic teams have Under Armour deals and the fans buy the Notre Dame Under Armour shoes. Ugly looking things and they’re like $200 for some ugly trash.

  19. I feel like UA was really on the come up and then just plateaued. I still think their underwear and cold gear are top notch though.

  20. Too many conspiracies here. It’s simple. Curry wanted a LeBronesque lifetime deal. UA is doing horribly financially and came back with an offer much lower than that because player branded sneakers just don’t sell the way they used to. Curry is hoping Nike or another legacy brand can give him that type of money but I doubt that they will.

  21. Can someone explain to me why does he care? Isnt it just “yey company X pays me some large amount of money to be their face in ads and shit”. What does he care who else is with what company?
