Will Seahawks’ Jaxon Smith-Njigba make Pro Football Hall of Fame? | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC

Five words or less. Buccaneers beat the Rams last night 34 to7. We apologize that that’s the game that was on, but it looked like it would be, you know, Fury a decent game. Five words or less for that splattering of Tampa Bay. No one is playing better. No one’s playing better in the sport right now than the Los Angeles Rams, right? I mean, I think you you said it just a few minutes ago. I don’t think you’re wrong with what you’re saying. They’re kind of a juggernaut on both sides of the ball. You just you you say you name it. I mean, right. I mean, we see their offense. We know that’s amazing. I don’t think people have caught on to know how good their defense is yet. Right? When you talk about Jared Verse and Byron Young on the other edge, who’s a maybe their best pass rusher, but he doesn’t get credit for it because they got other big names there. You know, you talk about Fisk in the middle, Kobe Turner, right? They got good depth. Land man at middle linebacker is a hell of a player. They figured out their secondary. They got incredible safeties. them getting Darius Williams early in the year, the Emanuel Forbes getting him, it’s all worked out. The Rams, you look at them right now and go, it’s hard to find flaws on their football team with the way they’re playing and they feel like they’re just totally feeling the mojo, right, don’t they to you? Yeah. And there’s nothing more positive that can be said about the Rams. My five words or less is this cuz I was astounded when we got back to the hotel last night cuz what happened was in the car for the first time ever on the car back to the hotel I had to pull out the laptop and do the Chip Kelly fired by the Raiders post and I get back and I turn on the TV cuz who cares about the game by then really? I mean I’m sorry but who cares by then? I turn on the TV and it’s like why is Devonte Adams still in the game? Why is Matthew Stafford still in the game? So know when to pull starters. I there has to be an analytics formula that would tell the coach, hey, time to get the first team off the field. Get them off the field. You got a 37y old quarterback. You got a receiver that’s been around since 2014. You’ve got key players. There’s no reason to be in the game. No reason to be in the game. Get these guys off the field. Get Jimmy Garopppolo some reps, right? You may need him at some point. I mean, one of the craziest stories of this season has been, and I still remember being in Canton in July, when Matthew Stafford’s back is messed up, and we don’t know when he’s going to play or if he’s going to play or what’s going on. Why are you risking injury to your key players when the game is clearly over? Baker Mayfield’s out of the game with a left shoulder injury. He’s in a sling. We’re going to find out how much time he’ll miss. The Buccaneers are just overwhelmed. What are you doing? You got to know when to pull starters, period. Yeah. I I agree that was, you know, I think there’s a fine line that coaches kind of get to sometimes where they’re on the wrong side of it last night with eight minutes left in a 347 game. Your starter should not be in the game. I I I agree with you. And then Matthew Stafford gets hit and he gets hurt and what do you do? And I know they were handing off, but let Jimmy Garoppolo hand off. Let’s let’s invent Bennett handoff. Yeah, I think I think that becomes a little bit of a coach’s worst fear is, hey, I still want to keep us in four quarter shape and play football that way. But there was a time there last night where I agree with you. And look, John is one of the best coaches in the NFL. But in the moment, somebody needs to be able to pierce through that competitive bubble, right? And say, “Coach, coach, remember what happened to Jaden Daniels?” That’s all she has to say. Jaden Daniels. Yeah. Okay, let’s get him off the field. Somebody’s got to be the one who’s willing to be the Dr. Doom and say, “We we probably should empty the bench.” Nobody would have said, “Oh, oh, oh, oh, there’s a point oh, oh, one chance of the Buccaneers coming back to win.” I mean, if they score a touchdown, two, put the starters back in. We’ve seen that happen before. if you take them out too early. I just look, you’re playing with fire unnecessarily when you keep your starters in a game that’s over. And that game was over. Patriots beat the Bengals 26-2. Five words or less for that one. This is what good teams do. This is what good teams do. No, he went over by one. This is what This what good teams do. How about that? Forget the is. But but yeah, it’s what good teams do. There we go. The Patriots. Okay. Did not play their best football yesterday. It was a little sloppy certainly, but still found a way to win a football game, right? Pick six. I mean, a number of times in the red zone, inside the five, couldn’t punch it in the end zone. Had to kick field goals. Few times where you felt like, man, if their defense will just make the stop right here, they’re going to blow the Bengals out and they couldn’t quite do that. So, they didn’t play their best ball yesterday, but still found a way to win the game on the road against a team that we know was kind of last ditch effort to to try to save their season in the Cincinnati Bengals. One big negative for the Patriots, Will Campbell, fourth overall. Oh, I know. We’ll find out. We’ll find out. Mike Vrabel’s been very tight lipped about it. Patriot DNA still floating around. Bill Bichc’s influence still on the team. We’ll know more today. But my five words, bye-bye Bengals. Bye-bye. How about that? Okay. And last year it was a loss to the Patriots in week one that we didn’t appreciate the significance of that ended up being the difference between the Bengals making the playoffs and not making the playoffs. And now this this just feels like the dagger 3 and8 it’s done to the point where why would you put Joe Burrow back on the field and we were having the conversation yesterday said well you know they want to get a return on the investment. Well, you also want to protect the investment. Why put the investment at risk? Especially on, you know, that’s the field that it happened on. And let’s have the conversation that hard plastic over cement. You look at how hard T. Higgins head hit it yesterday. And he was out. He was knocked out. And they won’t have him on Thursday night. Barring a miracle. How do you get cleared that quickly? At least Jamar Chase will be back. But I just think that you got to be thinking about the future. And I know Joe Burrow wants to play. I reported last night that nothing set in stone. It’s all to be determined based on how his body recovers. It felt like as of Thursday he was going to play and then Friday he was limited in practice. He was limited because they got Joe Flacco the rep so he could get ready. I just I think it’s they’re done. They’re done. I know they’re not mathematically eliminated. Only the Giants are. They’re done. And and let’s not let’s not screw up the preparation for next year by chasing ghosts this Couldn’t agree more. Could not agree more. Right. I I was not in favor of that. And and as I told you, I I had heard some people that I trust in that situation a little that yeah, it felt like it was trending towards him playing and something happened. And you’re right, probably the Flacco thing was part of it, but I think there started to become a little bit of a deeper conversation there. You know, whether it was, hey, let’s give him a few extra days. But I think you got to be careful again. Yeah. Return on investment. You could mess up your whole investment in general. That’s where people just don’t realize this tow thing. and how it can affect your whole I mean gosh if he hurt that toe again right tears a ligament again there goes the start of next year or who knows if he even gets back to 100% ever I mean again we’ve had this conversation Deion Sanders had to retire because of his turf toe that’s how serious it is people don’t realize that but I wouldn’t risk it if I was the Cincinnati Bengals Seahawks beat the Titans 30 to 24 it felt like it was going to be a blowout the Titans hang around give me five words or less on that one yeah uh still legit as far as the Seahawks. Now, they let they played with their food a little bit here, but they had moments and and and I think if you just look at, you know, the way they played, they made big plays to JSN on the offensive side of the ball. The big play of the football game that made it even or even look remotely close. The game’s 23-3. Uh DK, right? Shimmer DK, the the first or the third round pick from Florida that the Tennessee Titans get. He catches the ball inside his own 10 yardd line and returns it for a 90 yard punt return. That kind of flipped the game on its head to where it let Tennessee hang around where you felt like Seattle was about to blow them out. But good bounceback game for Sam Darnold. We saw the run game play well and hey, Cam Warren made some plays yesterday. He really did. He made some great throws and some big throws and some big moment moments to hang around. But yeah, Seattle is uh still legit and let’s not forget that. I assume that JSN counts as one word and I’m only going to use three but JSN to the HOF. And I know it’s early in his career, but it’s incredible. He looks different. Not like usually when you say somebody looks different, it’s they look massive, they look bigger. He just looks like ordinary guy, right? And then when it’s time to go, I mean, look, he’s smaller and and he just is incredible. the speed, the agility, the route running, the body control, the ability to make something happen after the catch. He is incredible. And I don’t know why he’s not being blanketed. And I just wonder whether he gets over or not over. Underestimated by defensive backs. Like they, oh, this guy ain’t nothing. And then there he goes. But it’s incredible. He’s on pace to set the single season receiving yardage record. He’s on pace for 2029. No one’s ever had 2,000 receiving yards in a single season. I know. I know. Oh, all Oh, it’s asterisk 17 games. Bull crap. When they moved from 14 to 16, nobody ever said boo about asterisks on the record. It was one extra game. And if that’s the number of games, sorry, that’s how it works. There’s 17 games. Somebody’s going to get 2,000. He’s on pace to be the first one. And he’s a great kid. And I I just It’s just amazing. He doesn’t look the part. He plays the part as well as anyone in the NFL right now. We’ve had a changing of the guard this year from Jamar Chase and Justin Jefferson, although Chase is still kind of there to Jackson Smith and Jigba and maybe Puka Niku. Although Puka Puka is not like last year, JSN is the man. He’s first team all pro period. And I I’d have to sit and think about the next one, but pencil him in. Yeah. Barring an injury that knocks him off course, and I don’t want to kaiwash him by even mentioning it. He’s incredible. Yeah, he’s incredible. I think you know, you brought up the other name. I think Jamar Chase is still right there with him. He’s probably that that guy, too. I don’t know, maybe one of those guys in Dallas and George Pickkins becomes your all pro. That’s right. I mean, you got some things there, but he is a special player. He’s got incredible pair of legs. I think that’s the first thing. And his ability to separate in short areas is what makes him special. And then I think on top of that, the way Clint Kubak, they stay very patient with the run game. They do have some other guys and Rasheed Shahed who you got to worry about. They don’t put them, they move them around. They get them in the slot. They get him in tight splits, so it’s hard sometimes to always double him and and, you know, play manto man on him. But he’s an incredible route runner with incredible play strength. And I think his speed is deceiving to your point a little bit where people don’t realize he’s quite moving as fast as he is. Um, but yeah, him and Amecha Ibuka, who he was at Ohio State, have that similar skill set where it doesn’t pop off the screen of like, oh my gosh, it’s so fast, but yet when they’re on the field, they seem to run away from people and break a lot of tackles and make people miss on the regular. He’s incredible. And the Vikings get to see him and Sam Darnold in six days in Seattle. And I know Darnold has had that one circled for a long time. Hi, it’s Mike Florio. 1. Just to think his qbs have been “less than” “trailers” imagine if he gets a plus QB, a tractor, a force multiplier. On the deandre hopkins qb carousel.

  2. Seahawks fan here… and I have to concede that Simm's description of the Rams is spot on… they really are hitting on all cylinders right now… and they've not had a huge injury bug so far. They should have won the Philly game to be 10-1… I worry that it's going to take a Stafford injury (not so he's out… just not 100%) to derail them. And even with all that.. I still think that if the Seahawks get healthy on their defense, and they can avoid having 4 turnovers in a game, they can beat them.

  3. The 5 words for the Seahawks-Titans game is: Cam Ward extending plays amazingly… They couldn't get him on the ground, and on probably 5-6 key 3rd & 4th down plays, Ward scrambles, then the depeted LB's & Safeties couldn't stay with the coverage and they're keeping drives alive. Mobile QB's that can also pass with accuracy are really hard to defend…

  4. JSN:

    – about 500 snaps

    – 45 snaps per game

    – 80/107 receptions

    – 1,313 yards

    – 7 TD

    – 11 Games

    – 119 yds/GM

    -12.2 yards/target

    – 9.7 targets/game

    Johnson (2012)

    – 1,151 Snaps

    – 72 snaps per game

    – 122/204 Receptions

    – 1,946 Yards

    – 5 TD

    – 16 Games

    – 121 yds/gm

    – 9.5 yds/tg

    – 12.75 targets per game.

  5. I’m a hawks fan, my wife is a titans fan. I’ve watched every single snap cam ward has had and he’s the real deal, people just see the stat line and that’s it. Dude balls out.

  6. Everyone is trying to explain JSN ability. I see it as "Speed Control" He is always in control of his speed and leverage. That is why he looks smooth. It doesnt translate to sprinter speed, but a reciever needs to adjust his speed to get under throws and to bait the defense when selling a route. JSN is always in control.

  7. You have JSN breaking records. But all's you hear about is Sanders, this Sanders that. It was one game against the worst team in the NFL. Can't wait for 49ers to shut everyone up so we can hear about the real stories in football.

  8. Had not the Hawks scored 30 pts in 1h of 3 games and didn't throw/play in 2h, he'd have over 1500 yds and would easily crack 2000. The blowouts vs Saints, Zona and Washington limited his numbers.
