HC Sean Payton after Broncos’ bye: ‘We are in a position to compete for seeding’
Hey Sean, good morning. Morning. Um, good morning. You you talk a lot about the sort of doing the self scout throughout the season. So when you do get some extra time, where do you kind of, you know, put your focus over the course of a by-week and and what did you want the message to the guys to be, you know, coming back in your current position? Well, I think this I think the the easy illustration for us um coming out off the buy and it’s not like we’re at the halfway point, but nonetheless um you know, here we are in a position to compete for seating and there are two things that stand out. It the penalties stand out. you know, if you said what what what’s the lowhanging fruit that you you have to um clean up to improve your chances of of getting the best possible seed. And then secondly is is harping on the plus minus uh turnover giveaway takeaway. We ended up up one last week and and it meant a lot. You know, we were close to being up two, but um in in in important games that one possession can be the difference. So, um, that that was the like two of the main topics this morning, um, before we broke up. Dax Stevens, DNBR, coach, you gave Will Lutz an extension during the buy. Why was that so important to do, and it seems like you just have a trust and confidence in him that that’s pretty powerful. Can you just talk about that? Yeah, I think first off, he’s earned it. Um, you know, we we spent time, George and I, before the break and discussed the number of players that we were going to visit with. And, you know, the key is not affecting the mojo or the, you know, how your team’s doing. And so, I’m always sensitive to that. Um, especially when when you’re playing well. Um, because sometimes those can be difficult discussions. Um, but no, we were able to to get Will done. Um there’s a there’s a few other players that you know we know we’ve reached out to. Um and I think the the key is the communication aspect of it all. Um but he’s played well. He’s consistent and um and I think he’s got the respect of the locker room. Uh I think like all kickers, there’s ups and downs, but um he he’s been a great addition for us. Chris Thomas in the Gazette. Um yeah. Hey Sean, uh just wanted to ask you about the running game against the Chiefs. What did you like from what you saw and what do you still need to do in improving the running game moving forward in your estimation? Yeah, I think look the number of touches that we had, the number of runs we had was down. Um I think looking looking back at it, Jal had a handful of good runs. Um and I I think uh with the flow of a normal game um you know he’s going to be important for us in this stretch uh obviously RJ as well and and then um apprentice played probably one of his better games. Uh you know he didn’t just play at the fullback position but you know he actually went in with some of the pressure stuff that we were getting from Kansas City on third down and was outstanding. Mike Cliss 9 News. Yes, Sean. A two-parter if I can. One, you were talking about penalties. I was wondering on what you’re seeing with Riley, Riley Moss with the number of uh PI penalties. And the second part was about uh just how your special teams um which was a little maligned early is now how they bounced back the last couple games. Look, the special teams for us um were outstanding last week. There was a big reason we won the game. Um when you have the the return yardage differential that we had um the field position that was set up Mims was outstanding guys blocking form were great. Um so we just you know we keep grinding we keep looking to get the right guys on these units. I’ve known Riz a long time and those guys uh uh will do a great job coaching it and teaching it. Um, and then look with Riley, sometimes it’s technique, sometimes it’s the traffic opposite of a real good corner. Now, Pat hadn’t been healthy, but um, you know, there are some things that that I’m sure he’ll want to clean up. And then there’s some there are a few calls where we look at and and you know, it’s tough to try to clean up or correct something if you don’t agree with it. But, um, overall, uh, the the penalty thing is not just one player, though. The penalty thing is by far when you look at the totality of it and if you if you do your homework on it and you look offensively and defensively that’s something that we as a we as a collective have to have to get better at. Eric Dwala de Broncos.com. Coach, you mentioned back in May that you thought Troy Franklin was a guy that could take the next step this year. What did you see from him that made you think that was possible and how encouraged have you been by what he’s been able to do through the first 11 games? Yeah, I mean I I think he’s explosive out of his break. I I think he’s um man, he’s he’s not afraid to compete at all. He’s real good at the line of scrimmage with his releases. I think there’s a confidence that Bo has has with him. Um and so it’s it’s a little bit what we saw from Marvin. And uh and I’m happy with that room. I mean, those guys are all competing, working hard uh and and going against some some real good defenses. I think Jeff may be having some No, I’m ready. Yeah, sorry. No, I was just waiting for the for the tip off. No, Sean, I was just curious if uh you’d be able to say if if Pat andor Alex would practice this week. Yeah, I I I I would never get into that on a Monday. Um, I appreciate the question though. Do you like their progress and their recovery? Yeah. Again, I I wouldn’t get into anything injury related. Uh, but I appreciate the question. All right. Thank you so much, coach. I believe those are all the questions we have for you today. Thank you for joining us.

Love our coach go broncos and let's go broncos country
So now the NFL is saying "You Broncos have WAY TOO MUCH TALENT over there, time to keep them under the SALARY CAP" 😐. Now that the Broncos are good people still want to keep us down 😵💫
Hopefully under the lights, Bo can go out and throw 4 tugs and show the world he's FR
We definitely need that bye week
I truly don't understand why reporters ask about injuries. It's so stupid, why would he give away strategic information if he doesn't have to? Unbelievable
Mims needs to get his extension next. There is a spark that he gives Bo that is missing when he is not out there.
Sean at the beginning of the year clearly stated he won't ever talk about injuries yet yall continue to ask about injuries. 😂
Plus Kansas City has a really good run defense the hell Jonathan Taylor to under 80 yd
Some reporters really want to be put on Payton's bad side asking about these injuries. He has been clear on what he will say or rather not say.
