[BREAKING NEWS] Adam Report: New York Giants have fired defensive coordinator Shane Bowen | GET UP
New York Giants. Shifty, what the what have they done? They have fired their defensive coordinator, Shane Bowen, this morning. You’ve obviously seen, we showed you all the blown leads that they’ve had this year. Now, again, they’ve decided to make a change at the defensive coordinator spot. They have fired Shane Bowen, moved on from him. This comes the morning after the Las Vegas Raiders fire Chip Kelly. So, literally in the span of less than 12 hours, we’ve seen two struggling teams fire two coordinators. The Raiders fired Chip Kelly last night. The Giants fire Shane Bowen this morning. The Giants blew that game yesterday. Another 10-point lead. As we were saying, Rex, the Lions had them right where they wanted them when they were down 10. Perfect position for the Detroit Lions to be in against the New York Giants team that has blown five double-digit leads this year. And the Giants, perhaps as no surprise, in the fourth quarters of games this season, they’re last in the league in scoring defense. They’re last in the league in total defense. They’re 30th overall out of 32 teams in both of those categories, but last in fourth quarter scoring and total defense. Rex, is this Was this a coordinator problem? I mean, oh, hell yeah, it was. No, absolutely. And it was a coordinator problem, but you hired them. Like, what what are you thinking? You got this kind of talent. They’re the second highest paid defense in in the National Football League. what are you doing hiring this guy? Well, like to me and again, sometimes being a head coach, you look at you’re a hell of a guy. I’m going to hire you as a coordinator. Sometimes you want to hire the best. And the reality of the situation is you go back, Brian Dal was a lame duck coach and everybody knew it. So maybe people true candidates weren’t lined up to take that job in the first place. One way or another, this Giant season cannot end soon enough because as we said, they’re off season. I think there’s going to be a lot of people very excited by in sports. So delighted that you’ve chosen to get up with us on an unbelievable Monday. The gang is all here. We had remarkable finishes all across the league yesterday. And perhaps the most improbable of all came in Big D. The Cowboys and the Eagles. The comeback of the year. If you’re just joining us, we run through the biggest plays in a game in which the Eagles had a 21- nothing lead. Now it’s 217 in the third quarter. And Dan CD Lime had a rough day, but he makes the big play here. Yeah, look at the ability to track the football. He’s hand fighting down the field with Cooper Nine. Chract the ball. Track the ball. Track the ball. Kind of find it over that shoulder. Twist last second. Outstanding ball awareness. And that leads to this first and goal from the four. You got CD Lamb. You got George Pickings. You got Brevin Span for two people. I mean, Dak Prescott does a great job of just staying on the run, keeping the play alive, and then that tight end continuing to chase backside. So, 2114. And then D. Wood. What can we say about George Pickings? I mean, he the contract that he’s going to earn this off season, it’s going to be crazy cuz he’s absolutely playing like the number one receiver for the Dallas Cowboys. Maybe the number one receiver anywhere. Cowboys in the red zone and Dak Prescott shades of the young Dak taking it. I love the no hesitation. Greeny, don’t blink. Don’t wait. Go get it. And then the great job by Ferguson kind of staying out front as a lead blocker. Tied at 21. Later in the same quarter, Saquon Barkley Rex just has not looked like himself all year. Yeah. No, it’s crazy. Like, come on, make a guy miss Saquon. Instead, we fumble. And it’s his first loss fumble of the year. Barkley had just 22 rushing yards, his fewest since joining the Eagles. But the Cowboys take over. They go three and out. They’re forced to punt. You figure, okay, didn’t cost the Eagles anything. But then Xavier Gibson, what are we doing? Dumb. Fielding the ball racks on one. Absolutely dumb. What the hell are you doing? And then to make matters much worse, he gets leveled by Elijah Clark and the Cowboys recover. Watch the effort from Clark on this play. If you have a child who plays sports, show him this. I I’m going to show my I mean, this is all effort. A gunner, I have no concept of how hard it is to play. He was never athletic enough to play it. But my goodness, that is an unbelievable play by that young man. Looked like it was going to lead to a go-ahead score for the Cowboys, but it doesn’t. On this fourth down, they decide to go for it. And honestly, Greenie, I think it’s the right decision. I also thought in the moment when the Eagles make the stop. I said that’s going to be the difference. They’re going to make the stop. Herz will drive him down. Get in field goal range. Game over. And and he might have. So, it’s 2 minutes left in regulation. Third and two. This play call stinks. It’s stand still. You’re allowing the defense to line up, play more aggressive. There’s no doubt. There’s no thought. There’s no communication. There’s no advantage created for the offense. And on the very other side, next drive. This is also third and two. And it’s the difference. They motion down the bunch. We’re going to break it down. It’s an outstanding route by Jake Ferguson versus man coverage. It’s a long field goal from there. It’s a much shorter one from here. Motion, motion, great advantage. Force communication, great leverage and angles. An outstanding slant route by George Pickkins. Nine catches, 146 yds for Pickkins. And it leads to this with 3 seconds to go. Brandon Aubrey to complete the comeback. An absolute shocker. The Cowboys score 24 unanswered. They come all the way back and beat the Eagles. It looked like they were going to get run off their own field. Instead, they tie the largest comeback win in the history of their franchise. It’s their first win against a team with a winning record. It’s the first time they’ve won back-to-back games all year. And afterwards, the vibes were high. Can you win the game in the first quarter? No. Can you win the game in the second quarter? No. Did we spot him 21 points? But what about Hey, hey, can you win again? No. What about that? Everything we’ve talked about, everything. You guys have done it. You stack these days. You stack these wins. You learn because they build championship habits. I’m so proud of the men in this room. That That’s a real win, right? I mean, that was an incredible win. Dwood, what’s the first thing you said this morning? Can’t overstate the magnitude of this win. You You really can’t. Here it is. You have the defending Super Bowl champions in your building. You’re down you you’re down 21 nothing and you find a way to come back and win that game. Like Rex, you talked about it in the first hour. Dallas Cowboys don’t do this. No, they don’t do this. Just like you said, they are front. They’re usually a front running team. They jump on you. They do all the celebrating. They do all that. but to show the type of character that the football character that the Dallas Cowboys showed yesterday to climb back. And it’s not just one person. It wasn’t just George Pickkins. It wasn’t just Dak Prescott. It was everyone. The defense played outstanding in the second half. Dak Prescott was outstanding. The way they blocked up front, it took a whole team effort to come back and win this game. And a game when you win a game like this, it’s like rocket fuel. It can literally propel you into a whole different space as a football team. Rex, you’ve been very critical of the Cowboys defense all year long and with good reason. They were the last ranked defense in the league going into this game and down 21 nothing. It couldn’t have looked more bleak, but from that point forward, that defense actually rose up and played I thought it pretty well. What did you see? No, absolutely did. And and the addition of Quinnon Williams in particular has been I mean incredible for this unit. Um to me now you’re able to to push the pocket. Look, they only had one sack, but Dan Laterer is going to show like the the one-on-one. They were winning a lot of one-on-one battles. Big sack. It was that third down. That was it. The third down, the biggest play of the game, but then often times he they’re getting pressure on the quarterback. And yeah, they’re not getting the sacks, but they’re getting pressure and he’s throwing the ball uh before he wants to. So, look, that was much better, but it’s all about their offense to me. It’s all about their offense. And look, going against this Philadelphia Eagles. This isn’t against Johnny Lumplick, the Cincinnati Bengals. All right, this is against the Packers and Lions. All right, they they the Packers and Lions had averaged 16 points and 289 yards against the Eagles, right? Dallas did yesterday 24 points, 473 yards against arguably I mean if not the best I mean certainly in the conversation one of the best defenses in the league. That’s how good this offense is. And guys it’s so good. CD Lamb’s playing like garbage. I mean to his standards. Wait till he’s had seven drops in two weeks. Wait till he comes back to coming back and playing like CD Lamb. This team will be unstoppable. Yeah. So be before we get into the difference of the defense. Okay, cuz I agree the drops by CD, I think the we talked about George and how George Pickkins 100% has become one of the best receivers in football. I think the two things when you watch that game from an offensive perspective, one, you got to give Shanheimer credit. They’re down 21 nothing. They did not chase points. They stayed balanced. They continued to run the football. That helped some of that play action passing stuff. The throw of the game for me is in the second quarter right before the half. It’s second and 15. Third down 21 Nugget. It’s second and 15. Dak hits Ferguson on a 17yd seam route in between three defenders that you just you shouldn’t even try to throw the football and he fits it in there absolutely perfect. If they don’t make that throw, you’re third and 15. You’re more than likely just kicking a field goal. You’re not going to win that game. that that is a one of those under I thought Dak had four or five throws yesterday that were just perfect perfect and it’s one of those throws that you just don’t pay attention to enough. I thought the the the willingness to not chase the points and stay balanced was huge. And then you have to credit Dak. He made four throws, five throws that were just phenomenal. They stayed alive Sunday. They stayed alive in the season. Dak doesn’t lose at home to NFC East teams. He hasn’t lost a home game against a division foe since 200 17. Chef, you love calling for graphics. This is A1. A1. Let’s go to it right now. 22 and home at the Jury’s World against Division foes. Again, as tough and out as there is in football. They’re at home. They’re down 21. And instead, they staged one of the all-time comebacks in franchise history. Something they’ve done only three other times, erasing a 20 point 21 point deficit. They do it to win the game. They do it to stay alive. They do it to set up a Thanksgiving day that the NFL schedule makers have been concocting since since the offseason when they said we’re going to have the Cowboys and Chiefs come off big comebacks right before Thanksgiving Day to set up the most watched regular season game in NFL history, which it probably will be on Thursday. So, it’s the offense of the Cowboys back. I want to go back one more time because we’re so hard on them and rightfully so when they’re bad. I thought you don’t win that game if your defense doesn’t hold the Eagles to zero from the moment that they go up 21. Yeah. Before we get to the tape, the two things, one, they gotten fiveman fronts a lot. Yeah. Fiveman fronts a lot. Just And this is part of the predictability of Philly’s offense just shot up field penetration. I think the second thing is overshown’s speed has just had a massive impact tackling Saquon one-on-one multiple times and then they’re winning their one-on-one pass rushers that Russ Rex was talking about. And there’s not much that Jaylen Herz could have done. So you get sec. This is second and seven. I called it before Quinnon Williams. This is Odigizu, I believe. Watch what he does to the center. This is second and seven. Play action pass. We’re underneath. This play’s. It’s over. This This is This play’s dead because the the one-on-one pass rush just wins at the point. There’s no chance for Jaylen Herz to complete that football. Now we’ll go to the right tackle. No Lane Johnson. This is in the second half. It’s third down. I’m just trying to throw an out route to the right side of their screen. Where? Look where he starts. Look where he finishes. He’s in the quarterback’s lap. No, Jaylen Herz is not six for five. Okay, so a tackle getting pushed back into him is going to change the play. This is third down. Milada, one of the best left tackles in football. Look where he starts. Look where he finishes. Taylor Herd’s just hitting his back foot. He’s in his he’s in his lap. There’s nothing that the quarterback can do. So, I I do think that the starting point of putting those five guys across the line of scrimmage on early downs, winning against the run, and then becoming that third down pass rush unit that can have a couple different guys to win. It’s the difference in the second half. Yeah. No, absolutely. And look, they don’t have to be great with this offense. Just be average. Just be okay. Even a little below average, just be okay and this team can ride. So, we’ll see. Again, this is a Super Bowl caliber offense and just play. And again, they are much better last two weeks when they made the trade. All right, they get Logan Wilson in there at linebacker and then the Quinnon Williams is huge. All right, it’s made a difference. Next two games, home Chiefs, then at Lions. Then it gets kind of winnable. Home Vikings, they’re struggling. Home Chargers, they’re beat up. And then Commanders and Giants to finish the season. Cowboys get one of these next two games. You never know what might happen. Now, all of that said, Chefty here on Mondays is invaluable because we

About time they got rid of Shane Bowen.
I don’t think that was comeback of the year. I think my giants allowed the best comeback to the Denver broncos. 33 points in the fourth quarter.
