THE HERD | Colin Cowherd SHOCKED, Chicago Bears Are SUPER BOWL CONTENDERS With Caleb Williams | NFL

was missing six defensive starters. So, let’s just start start with that. Their entire linebacking core was out. So, suddenly you go into this game with Pittsburgh thinking, “Oh, we can’t be boring. We’ve got to actually we got to move the ball down the field.” And Caleb Williams, in my opinion, played his best game as a pro. Yeah, he had a bad strip sack for a touchdown. Yeah, he misses open receivers. Yep. Four straight game under 60% completions. But Ben and Caleb is a marriage and both are helping each other out. Ben has provided creative play design and creative play calling and he’s created some structure and focused on the run game and Caleb is given Ben Johnson the horsepower that Jared Goff in Detroit could have only dreamed of. It is a marriage not of convenience. It works. It’s never going to be perfect. Caleb gives you all this horsepower, but he does miss some throws. It’s just, you know, it’s just part of his game. And I I said this, I’ll always take the upside for some struggles in accuracy. And Ben and Caleb are both incredibly gifted right now. They’re the number one big play offense in the NFL. This is Chicago. That’s something Green Bay does, or McVey does, or Shanahan does, or Buffalo and Josh Allen does. No, it’s Chicago. And here’s the thing about Caleb. If he’s your quarterback, there’s two or three guarantees. big arm, big mobility playmaker. Loves the big play and Ben Johnson is providing the structure and the running game to allow that. Much easier to throw down field on second and four when you don’t have negative plays. That’s the one thing about Caleb. There’s two or three things we all know about him, but I have said this for years about Caleb. He doesn’t get hurt and he doesn’t throw picks. If you provide him with a decent structure to play within and a foundational running game, then those big plays are easier. It sucks the linebackers in. It gives him more space. He’s going to make plays with his feet. And he’s got a huge arm. But he just needs structure. He needs a run game. And he’s obviously coachable because he’s completely eliminated the negative plays. 11 games he’s been sacked 11 times. Now, just think about that. That’s not because pass rushes died. It’s not just because they improved the offensive line. If you’re sacked 68 times and it’s down to 11, you are coachable. And a lot of great athletes in all sports aren’t. It’s It’s just funny because Colin said that he wasn’t coachable before. Now he’s coachable. Man, we got to got to start writing these down. Um, I actually don’t think this was his best game of his career. I I think actually against Minnesota was the was the best game of his career um against a better defense and um the types of throws that he was making, the decisions that he was making, uh his uh his mobility, like the plays that he had to make, the the the problems that he had to solve. Uh to me this this game was more of a uh Ben Johnson special from my viewpoint. Um and the the the defense rising to the occasion as well. This isn’t Caleb playing poorly that Caleb didn’t have a huge part of this game. But if we’re trying to figure out like is this the best of this and this is the best of that. It’s just like to me I I I continue to see uh where Ben Johnson has been able to uh so perfectly integrate himself uh as a head coach and it just it’s just a thing of beauty and and seeing him and Caleb work off each other is awesome. And like I talked about in my uh postgame clip where you know to me this this game was one I always as I talked about like I always look for these for these these you know chain of events these this timeline and it was you get the strip sack where you now you keep it 24-21 uh which it easily could have been 2424 they were in field goal range or even more they score a touchdown right and you get that strip sack. You get that ball back and then literally Ben Johnson dials up a wideopen uh uh Moore and immediately inside the 35. Now you’re immediately in field goal range. Immediately like in a in a blink of the eye, it’s like that is perfection. Those are the moments that you need to come away with the win. That that it’s like th those I I always try to encourage people like look for those chain of events. Look for those three or four uh plays or drives or or however it exactly unfolds to be like, “Oh, this is this is where things actually really got solidified that put you in a position to win.” Um, and I just thought that the play calling uh I thought the play calling was awesome. And yeah, Caleb had a he got his hand co uh stuck in the cookie jar in that one. And yeah, it’s it was definitely a bad play. Um, everybody was kind of talking about like like Colin talked about in his podcast last night like, “Oh, you know, uh, you it was impressive that that Caleb didn’t implode after that.” And I’m just like there there was this idea that there was this fragility around Caleb Williams that he’s not emotionally stable, I guess, because he, you know, was hugging his mom or something like there was always just some of this like weird thing about him where they saw him get mad when he was throwing into a, you know, into a net for for for a drill during OTAAS or pract, you know, whatever the heck it was. And they were just like, I don’t know if Caleb’s mature enough now. And it’s just like and that that that was always just such not, you know, that was just always such nonsense to me because I was like, considering what this man endured last season, like are you are you serious? Like I I told I at the end of the last season I said like the biggest takeaway for me with Caleb was his resilience, right? Like are you like are you kidding me? Like that that was the biggest takeaway out of out of anything. Um, and so it’s just the fact that that they thought that Caleb now was just going to just drown because he had a bad play and it was a bad play that it’s just now like over for him. I I just I don’t know why we think some of these athletes are just so so fragile. I I I just I don’t I just don’t understand where it comes from, honestly. I I I really really don’t. Um, and so, uh, it’s it’s kind of cool with the Bears now because, uh, they’ve definitely reached the level where you’re like, “Yeah, great. You beat Mason Roth, you beat the Steelers, whatever. Move on. You’re playing the Eagles now, right? It’s like it’s on to the next week.” It’s very Bill Bich uh, and Tom Brady. It’s like, we’re we’re we’re on to the next team. We’re we’re we’re on to the next team. Uh, and beating beating to to me beating a Mason Rudolph led Pittsburgh Steelers means nothing to me, right? It it just does. uh this team is is too good where you’re where I’m going to celebrate beating the Raiders, beating um uh uh the Giants, beating the uh the Mason Rudolph Steelers. Like it just just means nothing to me. And it’s just like now I’m excited to see going up against the Philadelphia Eagles because that game truly has stakes. Now you beat the Philadelphia Eagles. one, you show that you can obviously, and two, um, you’re in a real position to not, you know, he’s saying the first place Bears, you know, he’s talking about the the division, like you’re in a real position to get the number one seed in the NFC and a first round buy in home field advantage. Like, that’s what’s at stake. That’s my point. Like, that’s that’s what I’m trying to discuss and and and not be like, I’m surprised that Caleb didn’t have a meltdown after a strip sack. It’s like, gosh, what what elementary conversation are we having right now? right? Uh uh it’s just like no, like there’s there’s there’s real real uh expectations there there’s something really at stake right now and it’s and it’s awesome and it’s like I barely want to really linger and and and discuss this game that much because it’s like, you know, it’s like I’m going to be making a Seattle Seahawks video and I’m like, “Yeah, it was great. Jackson Smith and Jigba bald. Uh Sam Darnold was great. Blah blah blah blah.” And it’s just like and move on now. It’s like congrats, right? Like it’s same thing with the Rams. It’s like you beat the Bucks and they were not that good as people thought and then Baker Mayfield gets knocked out and now that game is es is especially over and it’s just like now move on and it’s it’s the way how I feel about the Bears and it’s just like and I feel less about that with the Detroit Lions because it’s like they needed that win and it’s like we got to linger on this right now because it’s like Jameus Winston was was wheeling and dealing and like you needed Gibbs to go off for 200 plus you know nearly 300 total yards just to get past the Giants. And it’s like we kind of do have to talk about that and like, you know, and where they’re at right now, you’re kind of like, hey, it was a tough win, you know, it was a hard win and and you kind of have to marinate in that a little bit. And I’m just like with the Bears, it’s kind of just like I I I don’t I don’t think you need to right now. Um, I I I think they’ve already consistently proven that they can win these types of games and and and against teams that are, you know, not the highest quality or not getting the highest quality quarterback play, you know, whatever the specific whatever the specific team you’re dealing with in any given moment. And it’s just like now let’s see what you can do against the Philadelphia Eagles who are a great team but can’t always put it together at the right time. So, like that’s going to be a fascinating game and it’s a very winnable game and you don’t know what version of the Eagles you’re going to get, right? Like are you going to get AJ Brown going off for 150 and Saquon going off for 100 like or is it going to be a game where Saquon can’t run and AJ Brown has two targets the entire game, right? Is this Eagles defense going to just be ready to pounce or are are they going to get lit up? Like you just you just don’t know. And so like that’s the game for me this uh this Friday, I guess. Uh like that that’s what I’m excited to see. Um and you know outside of the Eagles just laying an egg and just being like, “Oh gosh, man. They really do need to fire some people here.” If you get like an actual high quality performance from the Philadelphia Eagles and uh the Chicago Bears come away with the win, you know, I just I I think that’s absolutely massive. And so since that game is like right there on the horizon. Um to me it’s just like those are the types of conversations that I’m that I’m uh it’s just where my mind goes right now with this team. Uh so which again it’s a compliment to the Bears. But those are just my thoughts. I’d absolutely love to hear yours. What do you guys all think about Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears? Uh are the Bears looking like a title contender as the as the uh little bottom line says? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. I read every single comment. 1. Hopefully they can carry this into the Philly game. But where I’m circling is the following week where it’s 1/2 in a few weeks against GB. They should have their CBs both back and hopefully 1-2 of the LBs back so it will start to be the most complete with luck that they’ll be. Beat Philly and I’m really excite, but beat GB and depending how the Det/GB game goes, could be a step for the division. Philly can mean a lot of things, but beating GB as stakes get higher could be the ultimate measuring stick. Hell, beat them twice and it could knock them out of the playoffs. Regardless, it’s not where a lot of people expected them to be this early with Ben!

  2. Ahh so we beat only teams with losing records ok we win against a team with a winning record and a division leader oh but the qb out I’m sure if we win Friday the excuses will keep coming

  3. Did you not say in the last bears video, I dont want to keep bringing this up, but Collin changed his mind on Caleb and Ben and I dont like that! Now you proceed to make 5 videos about how collin was dumb enough to change his opinion after seeing new data from the last month or two of games… ok then

  4. I agree man isnt there anything you can point out about another content creators videos you can dissect or are you just bothered that he counted caleb out in the beginning of the year but turned out incorrect…i mean julian cmon man you made way better videos about things r egarding other aspects of play and not just colins newfound admiration of the new look bears….i mean switch it up once in a while…and point out what they do that is good and doesnt have an excuse..just because they are a better team with ben….i mean you keep saying its ben …well duh thats what colins saying too…coachable and ben are one in the same right

  5. He missed a good 5,6 throws that would of kept the chains moving, and would of ended this game. His accuracy is bad. He throws the ball way too hard. Work on touch passes n timing routes. That might not ever happen

  6. Yeah I've been a die hard fan since the 80's but I've always been realistic about my team. I went into this season with cautious optimism because I knew that it was a 2nd year QB and a rookie head coach going into his first year in charge. I knew they were gonna be better than some expected, including Colin Coward, but I didn't expect this. They're not dominating but the only thing that matters is winning and they are winning.

  7. I don't care what version of the Eagles show up on Friday, if the Bears do happen to beat them it is 100% a quality win for them. Hurts doesn't need to throw 300 yd. Barkley doesn't need to rush for a 150 yds for it to be. They're a good team and they're good coached.

  8. give caleb and ben the offseason to work on his feet and eyes fundamentals getting more connected and see if his accuracy improves. if it doesnt improve significantly then bitch about it all you want. for right now, its all just so new to him and hes never been a perfect with the footwork details guy. that is where he becomes elite. its getting better, but its super minor physical and mental things not being aligned. which is hard to fix midseason. but totally fixable. he shows no other concerning limits to me. his brain can do it all, he can be clutch, he can be a safe decision maker, he can throw anywhere and his arm is ridiculous. what he is showing is how important all the technical details are to get u to the next level.

  9. one, don't know why goff had to catch strays? two, if the eagles win then 7 days from now cowherd is going to be…caleb and johnson aren't on the same page, and this won't work in chicago. three, the lions are catching flak for an ugly win against a 2 win team but when the bears barley beat a bad team they are drenched in the GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL GLAZE.

  10. Pittsburgh is not a good team, they got the eagle's, green bay and Detroit. Watch he change his whole opinion after that if they lose all three. Oh they didn't have no defense
