Contract length is a sticking point in talks between Díaz and the Mets, league sources said. If the Mets and Díaz fail to reach an agreement, the expectation is for New York to more aggressively pursue free-agent relievers Devin Williams and Robert Suarez. Both pitchers are widely considered to be the next-best options in the closer market behind Díaz. The Mets have contacted the camps for Suarez and Williams multiple times recently, league sources said.

I don’t think anyone really wants to re-sign Suarez especially at his price point
Leverage for Diaz camp.
Never ever overpay for a closer.
Gonna suck to see Diaz in Chavez Revene. This off szn is reallly gonna hurt
Take him see what happens in the 9 innings 🤣🤣
He’ll be 35 at the start of next season and probably due for a regression. He’s projected to get ~ $17M AAV according to spotrac.
If teams like the Mets or Dodgers overpay to get him than I don’t have a problem
Ya this makes sense probably a good fit for both
This is the most obvious evidence to date that Suarez is going to regress in 2026. Almost guaranteed 2026 flop now if Mets sign him. Poor bastard. Hope he gets paid though, good for him.
He’s shaky in the second half of season. Good player, but we got his best play I feel.
I love Suarez and he was arguably the best closer in baseball the past two years, but…when he inevitably gives up a heartbreaking home run for the Mets, it will be so on brand.
Love ya Bobby, but I’m glad we’re letting him go after he’s basically performed at his peak with us. Whoever takes him next is probably paying a lot for a closer whose regression is pretty much due now.
