Making Sense of Seahawks 30-24 WIN Over The Titans | #SeattleSports

It’s Monday. It’s time for me, Michael Bumpus, to make it make sense. How did the Hawks get it done on the road, 30 to 24, defeating the Tennessee Titans? I’m going to tell you how. First, JSN. I mean, come on. He’s the best receiver in franchise history, man. He keeps on making big plays. And people don’t understand how he does it. I was asked earlier, shouldn’t they just double team JSN? What does a double team look like? You have a bracket defender maybe on the second level and a safety over the top. But even if you do that, the route combinations will manipulate what the safeties are doing. And so this is how he had a big play last game. You got Rasheed Shahed, one of the fastest guys in the NFL, running a dig on the opposite side of him. That safety has to come down and respect that dig. You get a one-on-one with that safety over the top. JSN with a big reception. So it is JSN doing his thing, but it’s also Kubak’s offense. He is in the read. He’s going through his progressions. The route combinations are manipulating the defense. And JSN is making big play after big play. JSN is one reason how they got it done. Sam Darnold, we asked for no turnovers. Guess what? We got that. There were three plays or three passes that could have been picked off, but you know what? Could have been doesn’t count. It’s not in the stat sheet. But this is what I liked about him. He took the checkdown this week. He got a 13-yard play to Barner, a 5-yard play to a Royal, 5-yard play to K9, nine yards to Zack Charmin, and 29 yards to K9. The checkdowns accounted for 61 yards. I loved it. Yes, there were some throws that were in risk or at risk, but you know what? He took the check down. That is a smart quarterback. And last, but not least, the Big Nasties made some play. Got Murphy with a sack. He has six total. That is second amongst DTackles in the NFL. I want you to watch how he did it. His body movement is getting crazy. He’s adding things to his repertoire. And also, you got Leonard Williams. He had one sack and four quarterback hits. The two bigs in the middle are getting after the quarterback. It wasn’t a pretty win. It wasn’t a blowout, but they got it done. I hope that made sense.

  1. Bump, yes i like your articulation. Yes it makes total sense. Sam mixed it up, throwing that defense off! I noticed that Sam felt the pressure, yet his release was so quick.

  2. The only problem with the Hawks is they have a problem closing people out or playing with a lead. The play calling gets stale, too predictable, and instead of keeping their foot on the gas, they start playing the clock and the opponent figures out their game plan. A combo of all those things. Also limiting the turnovers would be a bonus. Remember, this is a 1 win team we were playing
