Leafs Breaking News: Leafs Hit Rock Bottom, Berube Under Fire, Hartman Trade Buzz
Hello, Leafs Nation, and welcome back to your go-to channel, the Toronto Maple Leaf News Network. I’m your host, and today we have three absolutely jam-packed updates about our beloved Leafs that have just surfaced in the last few hours. We’re talking shocking conference standings, a neverending injury saga, and a major question mark over the team’s entire identity. If you’re a true Leafs fan, you do not want to miss these updates. Things have gotten worse, and we need to talk about it. And yes, before we dive into the deep end, I’m asking you if you are new to the channel, don’t forget to smash that like button and subscribe so that you can stay in the loop and never miss a beat on your favorite team. Let’s get right into the biggest and frankly most disappointing story of the last 24 hours. Update one, shockwave. The Maple Leafs are officially in last place and sinking fast. Is the core done? Leafs Nation, let’s not sugarcoat this. Things have gotten much worse. In a truly shocking development that no one expected beyond the first quarter of the National Hockey League season, your Toronto Maple Leafs now officially sit in last place in the Eastern Conference. Let that sink in. We are talking about a club that holds the longest active playoff streak in the entire league at nine consecutive years. And now the only team that has been below us, the Buffalo Sabres, defeated the mighty Carolina Hurricanes by a score of 4 to one, effectively moving themselves out of the Eastern Conference basement and surrendering that spot to Toronto. The only time the club has been in this position since the 2015 to 2016 season was when they were actively tanking, the season they drafted Austin Matthews first overall. We absolutely expected this team to be competing, not flirting with a top- end draft pick. Now, the main problem driving this spiral, the neverending injury crisis. Injuries have continued to pile up, and so have the losses. Last week alone, the Maple Leafs went one win, one loss, and one overtime loss. The injury bug has been simply unbelievable to start the season. The list is as long as it’s ever been, including Brandon Carlo, Chris Tanv, Anthony Stlers, Nicholas Roy, Austin Matthews, Jake McCabe, and Matthew knees. Jake McCabe had to leave Saturday night’s game against the Montreal Canadians after taking a puck to the face in the second period, making him the third top four defenseman to get injured. Meanwhile, forward Matthew Nes is out with a lower body injury and his power forward presence was severely missed with the offense showing very little drive. But the defense, folks, the defense is the real nightmare. The Leafs currently have the highest goals against per game average in the entire National Hockey League. They are allowing an average of 3.73 goals a game. The only other team that has given up more goals against this season is the Edmonton Oilers. The offense has actually been acceptable having the fifth highest goals for per game average in the league. The offense cannot outscore their defensive problems. Without the defensive presence of a player like Chris Tanv, this team cannot keep the puck out of its net. We saw the frustration boil over on Saturday night when Joseph Wool was pulled after he got continually hemmed in his own zone. Head coach Craig Barub, known for demanding toughness, had seen enough. This entire situation just solidifies a terrifying thought. Without a player like Mitch Marner, who was responsible for almost half of all Leaf’s goals, including those by Matthews and Nlander, this group feels like real pretenders this season. The roster currently lacks the enthusiasm, grit, and tenacity to bring any kind of hope for the fans. We have to face the Music Leafs nation. This team needs a confidence boost, and they need it now. The road trip continues this week with three serious challenges against the Metropolitan Division, including games against the Blue Jackets, Capitals, and Penguins. They need to learn how to play a full 60-minute game if they want to win. The question is, have you given up on this team, or do you think they are yet to find their stride? Update two, bench blowup. Bub’s sentimental lineups exposed. Veterans on the chopping block. Leafs nation. Our shocking position in the standings brings us to our second update. The bench is under fire and the message is clear. The Toronto Maple Leafs cannot continue choosing their lineups based on sentimental value. Head coach Craig Baroo, who has been preaching toughness and secondary scoring, must understand that the best players must play. After the disappointing 5-2 loss to the Montreal Canadians on Saturday, a clear conclusion has emerged. Sentimental value is negatively influencing lineup decisions that should be totally meritocratic. A clear example of this is the insistence on lining up Sammy Blerving Jacob Quillin who is backed by his teammates was left out. His speed, tenacity, or his good form simply did not matter. This is a massive problem when the franchise is talking about identity and demands. They must back it up with tough decisions. This issue isn’t just about one young player. Veterans like Max Doi, Dakota Joshua, and Matias Machelli continue to see minutes despite recent mistakes and limited impact. Meanwhile, a player like Eastston Cowan contributed when he was in the lineup and should not return to the American Hockey League. The message needs to be simple and ruthless. If he produces, he plays. The critics are saying that the pyramid of accountability starts at the top. Biruby must set the standards, management must back them, and the dressing room will fall in line. The absolute best 12 available forwards must play without any type of exception. Biruby needs to implement a game-by-game evaluation, sending the clear message that minutes are earned, not inherited. We’ve seen the defensive shortcomings on the ice, folks. a lack of closeouts, lost marks, and a vulnerable rush defense against defensemen joining the attack. While that is fixed with tactical discipline, the first lever is the lineup. The team must define clear roles based on performance. If a veteran is not contributing at five on five, his usage must be reduced or he needs to be moved to the power play or penalty kill if he performs there. There must be transparent incentives. Quillin and Cowan should be in if their basic metrics and tape show an impact. Conversely, there must be an adjustment of ice time for those who accumulate turnovers. The biggest takeaway from this news is the absolute necessity for communicated coherence. The message given in the press conference must be the same one seen on the lineup sheet. Now, the most radical part of this news, there are calls for a total roster replacement, including the overrated and overpaid top players. The core players have already been through several coaching changes. Perhaps it’s time to replace the players themselves, especially since the team’s best scorer, Austin Matthews, is injured. With Mitch Marner responsible for almost half of all Leaf’s goals, his absence combined with these lineup blunders suggests that major structural changes are needed now to save the season. Update three trade rumors explode. Leafs target 4 million veteran agitator. Who gets traded to get him? All right, Leafs nation. With Thanksgiving looming in the United States, the focus on the season has now officially shifted from its early to trade talk. The Maple Leafs are in dire straits and could be looking to add by subtraction. The narrative is now focusing on moving out current roster players in exchange for other useful pieces. The biggest area that has been lacking, which is essential for a tough team, is physicality and toughness. Think back to the games against the Boston Bruins a couple of weeks ago. They proved that the Maple Leafs simply don’t have the players to stand up and engage bullies. The only player who stepped up to send a message to Nikita Zadorov was Max Doi. But beyond him, there wasn’t really anyone who could have a word with the Bruins resident bully. This is the role that was once held by Ryan Reeves, but the team felt his one-dimensional play wasn’t worth a roster spot. The Leafs need someone who can police the ice, but who is not onedimensional. Enter the trade talk. According to Chris Johnston’s trade board in the Athletic, the Minnesota Wild could be looking to move a veteran agitator. That agitator is none other than Ryan Hartman. Hartman is an agitator who often finds himself straddling the line of acceptable on ice conduct and he can be trusted defensively. He has also mixed in a couple of big offensive seasons for the Wild in recent years. The Leafs would do well to kick the tires on the 31-year-old. He is in the second year of a three-year deal that carries a $4 million cap hit. Hartman is at best a third liner, a 12 to 14 minute a night kind of guy who can mix it up and send a message. The added physicality should come in handy across various situations. But here’s the million-dollar question. What is the price? Since the Wild view themselves as playoff contenders, they will want pieces that can help them in their playoff race. Hartman will not come cheap. The Wild may want a roster player who could contribute offensively. Perhaps someone like Bobby McMahon might peique the Wild’s interest. But would sending a younger player like McMahon for Hartman make sense? The real dream scenario, and this is what we hope general manager Brad Trailing is working on, is dumping another veteran on the Wild. Bringing Hartman in may be more of a pipe dream, unless the Wild are willing to take on someone like Kala Yarncrock or circling back to update 2, one of the veterans whose minutes are being scrutinized, Dakota Joshua. Better yet, could Tree Living dump someone like Max Doi on the wild for Hartman? If Trey Living could pull off such a roster for roster move, the Maple Leafs could come out ahead by filling their critical need for toughness and getting the emotional, sentimental players out of the lineup. This could be the injection of grit and tenacity this team desperately needs to stop being a pretender and start playing a full 60-minute game. Woo! Leafs Nation, that was a lot to take in. I WOULD TAKE HARTMAN FOR DOMI .
Move the team to Hamilton.
Fk that…Keep Berube…Fire the gutless Captain and his blonde girlfriend with the YouTube channel…and get some men on the team
Is the Core done? The useless GM ALLOWED the core of the CIRE to walk away and got nothing in return. Identity? This is the most ridiculous term in hockey. YOU aARE WHAT YOU ARE and the leaf’s are a soft, soulless Team. As I predicted, this Irganization will fire their Coach…of course the same people fired the previous one whi is doing fabulous work in New Jersey. How did that happen? Maybe this channel could point out the players Trey Living swapped out and acquired since coming here and tell everyone what they’ve contributed. I’m still amazed this Country Club of an Organization (everyone is far too comfortable, no accountability) hire the guy who destroyed Calgary. What has PELLEY done? What has Try Living done? Who hired Berubé? It’s no wonder this Franchise has been fallow for 60:years.
Who are we blaming now?
Just get rid of Berube and Reilly, sign Lucic and put 20 pounds all all the softies
