Aaron Glenn Press Conference (11/24) | New York Jets
They’re just not up yet. All right. Good morning. Um, when it comes to injuries, uh, really no injuries, uh, coming out of this game. Uh, so that was a good thing. uh when it comes to this game, man, there was a lot of good things that I saw on this tape. Um things that that we’ve tried that we’ve been building on um for this whole season really. And I’m not just talking about uh certain positions. I’m just talking about totality as a team, things that we’ve been building on. I thought we did a good job of that. Uh but obviously there are some things that we got to do uh do a lot better. Um obviously you guys know about the fumble that happened with Breeze. Um yeah, that’s something that can happen. Uh defensively, adverse situations is what we talk about quite a bit. Uh we have to get better in those situations, which I know the defense looks forward to being on that. And we talk about anytime we’re in an adverse situation, we look at that as more TV time for us. And just being able to finish. Uh I’ve been talking about mental toughness uh with this team for a while and I know for a fact that we’re growing in that aspect, but um we have to continue to look at that and understand how to close out games and how to finish games, especially when we got a team in a situation where we actually want them. Um, I thought they did a really good job. Uh, Baltimore, I thought they did a really good job in that second half being exactly who they were when that’s when they usually turn it on. Um, and we didn’t respond as as well as we should have. So, uh, that has a lot to do with not just the players, but us as coaches, too. We have to respond in those situations, too. So, um, together as a as a team, uh, I keep talking about how we’re trying to build this foundation of who we want to be. Um, and we’re going to continue to do that, uh, coaches and players alike, um, because we’re in this thing together. So again, I was happy on some things that did happen, but obviously there’s some things that we got to do better and we will do better as we um as we progress through this season. So we look forward to practicing this week. Um we have a team in Atlanta we got to get ready to play. Uh looking forward to playing those guys and winning that game. So uh any questions? Aaron, you you’ve talked about mental toughness before. Yeah. Early in this season. How is that something that you learn, gain, you know, what what has to happen for that to happen? You know what, the the more you can put the players in those situations uh in practice is when um it’s when you improve in those situations. So, for example, we have a um a period in practice what we call start fast, right? And that start fast period has a lot to do with man how we want to start the game, offense and defense. So, we have our first team going against our first team. And I expect our offense to get, you know, to to make a first down. I expect our defense to stop our offense from making first down. So, it puts both uh both sides in a situation to where, man, we got to compete and we got to win. And that’s one way of of of earning mental toughness or actually getting better mental toughness. We do a two-minute drill every Thursday, and we all know what that is. Um that’s situation where it’s it’s competing against both sides. And um again, in practice, both sides get a chance to win on those. So, um, to me to to get guys to be mentally tough, you got to put them in those situations and practice and we try to do it as much as we can. Aaron, just piggybacking off of that a little bit, when you go through a season like this and and you’re in a stretch where you’re kind of playing out the rest of the season, do you us do you use these last few games to see who who are these guys that are going to ride with us like moving forward and and you can determine who will be part of that foundation moving forward? Well, to to be honest, um I understand the the question. Um but I’m always hopeful that I don’t have to put myself in that situation because I would hope that everybody’s riding for us and everybody’s going out there competing and um and doing the things that we’re trying to do to win games. And I firmly believe that as players, uh you have a one track mentality as far as man, I’m out here to win every rep. I’m out here to win every game. And I’m not just tanking it, you know, going into the the the next season. So, um, and I will say this, man. I I am proud of the way our guys are going out there and competing their ass off. Um, looking forward to to to winning every game. And I think every one of our guys think like that. Um, and that’s a credit to the players, is a credit to the coaching staff. Um, and listen, I I I I firmly believe that’s what our guys think, man. They want to go out there and win every game. And they’re they’re not, you know, there’s no no quitting none of these guys. Hey AG, um I said two unrelated. One was I was curious. I know you didn’t get the result you wanted yesterday and he didn’t get the end zone as many times, but what did you see out of Tyrod yesterday? Any any what were the things you liked out of what he brought? Yeah, I I thought he operated uh very well as far as getting the guys in and out the huddle. Um I thought there was a tempo within that uh that I thought he did a good job of. Uh I thought the communication was was was okay. There are some things communication wise that we got to improve on. those some things I’m going to talk to the players about um when we get into our Tam today. Uh but I thought as far as him handling the situation, especially coming off the week that we had as far as him being the guy and him doing every play, I thought he did a really good job for us. So, um look forward to seeing how he’s going to operate on the on the move forward because I know you guys are going to ask me that question. Oh, I was not going to do that. Absolutely not. I know better than that now. Um so I related to to Woody, I know you speak to him. you you told us you speak to it pretty regularly. Yeah. You know, obviously, you know, you’ve been going through these games and not winning games. You you’re seeing progress. You’re talking about the you know, what you’re trying to build here. Can you describe, you know, cuz he wants to win now? Obviously, everybody does. Um how can you describe how he is with that in terms of his understanding of where you want to try to bring this thing? Is he seeing in your eyes the progress that you’re seeing? You know what that’s um every player, every coach um ownership uh personnel, everybody’s, you know, they want to win now. Um but there’s also an understanding of they you have to build things a certain way to to consistently win and he understands that, you know, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he wants to win now, just like the same with me, same with anybody else on this team. Um so those conversations are always good conversations between me and him. They’re always honest conversations. Um, I’m not going to BS him and he’s not going to BS me. Um, listen, there are some things that that, you know, I tell him that that, you know, he wants to see us get better at, you know, but there are some some things that I explained to him on here’s the reasons why and here’s where we’re going. And he does see those things, you know, but that doesn’t, you know, take the fact away from him wanting to win now and me myself want to win now. So, but those conversations are always good, you know, and um, and I do I do enjoy those conversations with him. Um, and that’s one thing I do respect about him as as a man that he’s um he’s going to tell me exactly what he thinks, you know, but he knows in turn I’m going to tell him exactly what I think. Also, a what’s been AG, what’s been the key to the improved rush defense and you you’ve had some changes there on the defensive interior. Guys been stepping up and can speak to the brand of football you’re seeing right now on that side of the ball. Well, you just said it there. There’s a brand that we play with and I’ve said this before. when you create a brand, um it really doesn’t matter who’s in, who’s in, who’s out, because everybody understand exactly how we want to play. Um so that play style, uh in general really takes over, and our guys are really doing a good job of that. And I want to say this, I thought the defense did a hell of a job just in general yesterday. Uh not just in the in in the running game, but also in the passing game. Um when you go up against a guy like Lamar, that is not an easy task of him running around making plays. I thought our defense did a hell of a job when it comes to that. Aaron, you talked about how you want to win right now, obviously. Yeah. How difficult is that for you? And I guess for everybody that I know you weren’t here for all of it, but your team clinched the 10th straight losing season, but you’re trying to build something so that doesn’t happen anymore. Well, how do you balance that and how do you deal with No, that’s that’s a good question. Um because everybody, again, I’m g say everybody wants to win now, but you can’t lose sight of what you’re trying to build. Um and listen, you you can easily just, you know, go get a bunch of players from the outside and bring them in. And man, you might win just off talent alone. And you’re not going to win a not a lot of games by doing, but you’ll win some games by doing that. But is the foundation of what you’re doing really set of who you are and what you’re trying to build? And to me, I try to make sure with our players and even with our staff, man, we keep a focus on that even though we’re trying to win these games. We’re trying to build things the right way to make sure that we sustain the winning that we’re going to do, you know, once this thing gets to where it’s going to get to. So, um, listen, it’s tough. It is. It is. But we also have a a forward thinking mentality as far as, man, here’s where we’re trying to go and we have a vision of where we’re trying to go. We try not to lose sight of that. Take a couple more. Why has Matchi been able to come in and be productive right off the bat? Um, listen, he’s come from a program at Alabama, which you guys know that, um, that’s embedded in him on how he has to work. Uh, there’s a lot of people really don’t see what he what he do behind closed doors. And he’s here every morning, uh, 6:00 in our indoor catching 300 balls. Um, so if you put all that together with a lot of other things that he do, he’s going to be successful. And you look at the things he’s overcome. Um, I don’t know if you know his history, but he had an ACL, man, he fought a battle with an illness and he’s come back from all those things. So success is in his um is in his future no matter what he do. And I’m not surprised at the success he’s having right now. Take the last one from K. Aaron, um, I understand Breeze can’t play every play, you know, got running back set of roles, but Some people would look at fourth and two, fourth and two yesterday. You go, “Okay, why isn’t Bree on the field?” Because he’s probably your best threat run pass, you know, he he keeps the defense guessing. Yep. What can you just tell us like, you know, how how you manage that rotationally and and are there situations where you got to go, you know what, I I need my best guys on the field? Yeah, that’s a good question also. But I would say this, um, we trust any all of our guys that we have that’s on the field. Uh you look at Isaiah and you look at his yards per carry, man, he’s doing a really good job running the ball, too. So, I think he’s also a threat with the ball in his hands also. Um and then with the receivers that uh we have out there, we trust those guys to go make plays. Um I think AD did a hell of a job making a move on their corner and actually winning on that. Man, I he didn’t get the ball. The ball went towards Mitch. Um but man, even in that situation, man, we we trust Mech to go and win that one-on-one situation. But um the guys that we have on the field, man, we trust those guys to go out there and make plays that we know for a fact they’ve made plays for us. Thank you everyone. All right. Thank you.

Say the same stuff every week we need wins
But how was practice
We need to start winning next year in the worst way ✈️
Let the tank roll on AG. We believe in your vision 🗽✈️✈️✈️
They need to draft 2 Qbs and figure out those and Brady Cook and have them compete
Aaron Glenn just said something important that the EMOTIONAL and IMPATIENT Jets fan is not gonna want to hear and HAS not heard. (paraphrasing) You can go get a bunch of guys and get some wins. But you can's sustain it. I have been a Jets fan since 1974 and I have watched this franchise do the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over again and that's try putting a band-aid over a gaping, gash of a bleeding cut. Especially via free agency. The players we've traded for or acquired via free agency has been a who's who of players that we threw everything but the kitchen sink at and not ONE SB has come out of it. Yet Jets fans still want Jets Front Office, Coaching staff, and Ownership to go out there and trade away draft capital, money towards. We JUST gave up A LOT to acquire Aaron Rodgers, DeVante Adams, Randall Cobb, Allan Lazard, and a ton of GB former players and coaches to get 12 total wins. Before that it was Tramayne Johnson, LeVeon Bell, CJ Mosely, etc. and we're STILL in the throes of a 15 year playoff drought. Let Glenn and Mougey cook.
Well……Explain what are you trying to build?!! "D played well?" The safeties can't compete!! Say what you will Hall costs us 2 games !
Coach AG, I really like you as our coach but in my most humble opinion, you talk way too much at the beginning of your press conferences. Especially when it’s the same thing after every loss. Injury report and just answer questions is enough sir.
The offensive play-calling was terrible!!
It doesn't matter anymore what this man says, its done their season is done. Stick a fork in them. They are done!!!!!!
It's so frustrating that they just give the easiest questions rather then the ones we as fans want answers for. But I get it, you ask hard questions you're not allowed in the media questions anymore. Like 1 question I want answers for is
Coach you have said Breese is your workhorse and have mentioned he does all the right things. Why if Breese is concerned a core piece of your culture and offense has he not been signed to an extention?
This guy is a joke. Fire this bum
Aaron Glenn was asked how come his best offensive player was not on the crucial 4th and 2 goal line play? AG answered he trust all of his players in clutch situations. However, that was not a good answer because every coach should make sure the best players are on the field in crucial plays. Why? The best players give you the best chance to win.
This was very insightful to somebody I imagine. Coach speak 101. This is what happens when you're incompetent. I feel sorry for the fans who have been a fan as long as I've been alive, I don't want you to have to go to the upper room without at least one more SB. But back to the incompetence, First time GM, hires a first time coach formerly a DC, who then hires a first time OC who was a former QB coach to a pocket passer in Goff. Stay with me here. Then these guys go out and get a one of two style (him and Lamar) RUNNING QB to lead the team. THEN they hire a former RUNNING BACKS COACH to be that players new QB COACH. At what point does someone just pause for a second and think "Are we hiring the right guys and players to put together a winning team"? I'm a Bears fan but a fan of JF bcuz of how he's been dealt so far in the NFL. If you dont see the similarities between you guys and the Bears with him then Google is your friend. Yes Justin was a shiny piece out there, but he was probably not for you since you based your liking of him on playing against him. JF should have never gotten an offer from you and stayed in run happy Pittsburgh. However you did pick him and then did everything in your power to try ro screw him up with the cast I mentioned above and make him a pocket passer. You have done him a disservice, your fanbase and even yourself. Bcuz you had no idea how to work with what you had. You should have kept AR or gone after a pocket passer and left Fields alone. Now he has a mark on him after going 4-2 last year and you have a losing season to start your tenure in NY. Congratulations. And dont believe the shitty team winning record of the Bears if you think that's your future, they will transition from the Jets of the NFC to the Steelers of the NFC. Knock on the door but no one will ever be home. Rant over just like the season.
Losing breeds losing.
Winning breeds winning.
AG needs to decide what kind of a breeder he'll be against Atlanta.
Is it me or we in or we in a world of S#!#!
If the 1st string offense goes against the 1st string defense in practices then why does the defense allow a lot of points and the offense can't score in a real game ? Someone isn't coaching
All I hear from Glenn is EXCUSES! His great mentor Bill Parcells, who he's always name dropping famously said this:
"I'm not really in the excuse business," says Parcells. "We have this expression, 'Don't tell me about the pain, show me the baby.'"
It doesn't matter who's in or out😅. If Myles Garrett was on the team would it matter 😅… Pat Mahomes😅. Nah… it don't matter. What's going on with the Gotham Strangler? He healthy?
at the 8:30 mark, AG is talking about some grown man shit. He's absolutely right from a football perspective but that goes for a lot of stuff in life, including everyday stuff. A grown man is able to look at the whole and see it from the suns angle. Keep pushing, coach.
Huh?!🤔 The same song keeps playing . 15 seasons without the playoffs, 10 straight losing seasons, no QB and all wrapped with raising tickets prices. NFL please force the sale away from the Bum Johnsons who don’t care about the fans or winning.
Give Aaron Glenn time !
Ya all delusional JF get bench but he leading in rushing yards this year, if he would continue to play he would got the rushing title 😂 and jets still losing only scoring 10 pts last game thinking this is progress , but everybody blame fields obviously he not that bad like everybody think he is , JF wouldn’t be leading in rushing, the media n the fans would make players look bad , instead of looking at tanner why we only scoring 10 pt????? No lost is acceptable Glenn organization should be ashamed of themselves Ik they sold JF an dream so he can sign , guarantee his Job security if they don’t win enough games, but what I don’t understand is geno smith didn’t get bench , tua didn’t get bench an rest these low level qb they team sticking with them, but why Jets can’t do the same if you sign JF for 2 years, now you turned on him ya fake an disloyalty knowing this teams need a lot pieces too be successful not even tom Brady in his prime can make ny jets be better , you sign JF too be the fall guy
Good presser. But I’m not buying the last response. Coz asked ‘why isn’t your BEST player on the field at that game-turning time’.
Please AG, don’t tell me Isaiah Davis is as good as Breece. Don’t give me Davis’ YPC. Before Brealon went down Allen was RB3 for reason.
Davis had 4 carries for 7 yds on Sunday. If he’s good enough to replace Breece on critical 4th and 2, why did he only carry the rock 3 other times?l all game???
Plus AD had 0 catches so with him in, Baltimore knew it was a run. Breece finished with 4 catches for 75 yds. With Hall in Baltimore had to play the pass and not only the run.
C’mon AG!!! Don’t BS us. Be accountable and admit Hall should have been in the game. At least in a 21 package.
