[Stein] It is feared that the Mavs face an extended injury absence for Dereck Lively II, The Stein Line has learned. Held out Monday in Miami for right foot injury management, Lively has played in seven of 19 games after offseason foot surgery and a recent knee issue.

  1. Unbelievable. I just don’t know what to say. Dude peaked his rookie season and it’s been one injury after another since then which has limited his ability to add ANYTHING to his game.

And I don’t want to hear shit about the medical staff. He was hurt before he played 1 game at Duke too. Dude can’t even play 20 minutes per game.

Absolute gut punch for the Mavs already BLEAK rebuild.

  2. That Finals run may end up being the peak of his career. Sad stuff for an extremely talented defender.

  3. God damn should’ve taken Cason Wallace. At this point you can’t trade him for anything and just need to hope it’s similar to Tyson Chandler. Don’t extend him, take him to RFA.

  4. Well there goes getting draft pick(s) for Gafford and at this point there goes DLive’s trade value. He’ll have some value, but I don’t imagine it’s much until he can prove to stay healthy. Shit just keeps getting worse!

  5. Sadly, I’m worried this guy will be in the Big 3 league in about 5 years. Cannot handle the NBA schedule at all. Such a shame

  6. The first call this new FO needs to make is seeing what it would take to get Casey Smith back.

  7. All this means for me is improved draft odds. This year is gone anyway so he should just focus on getting healthy for next year.

  8. I hate this for him man. I absolutely love DLive, he’s such a great dude and was a major reason we made the 2024 Finals. Sucks so much that his body just keeps letting him down.

  9. Its time to have a conversation about Lively….

He should not be getting a second contract with this team

  10. He is meh rebounder and has zero offensive game besides dunks and an occasional jump hook. Was hoping for more of an outside shot to develop at this point in his career.

  11. Fuck man, feel terrible for him he’s a great kid who’s been through so much. A great talent but I don’t think it’s realistic to expect him to be healthy going forward

  12. Can’t even stay out of foul trouble when he plays. He never puts together enough games in a row to get in a rhythm

  13. Love Lively but damn this is telling. He can’t stay healthy….. I hated the whole “he peaked his rookie year” comments but damn he hasn’t been the same sense. Hope it isn’t a season ending injury

  14. Dude just goes too hard in the paint, constantly landing on 1 foot etc. Really he needs another big man to mentor him, I feel like he could alter his game, increase his IQ, and lower his injury risk if he had the right guy

  15. Just get him off this team. We can’t even trade him he’s so unhealthy. Trade him for a 2nd, that 2nd rounder would play more on a two-way contract. Cisse might eclipse him in games play in just a season and a half

  16. Guess that makes it almost impossible to trade Daniel Gafford, as has been discussed here.

Always wondered on the AD trade, didn’t he have to get a physical & have the league. & Mavs sign off.
AD was injured when he came here.
    Something was crooked on it.

  17. Honestly, with what all has come out about Nico and how he treated player injuries, it wouldn’t surprise me if he somehow messed around with Lively‘s injuries last year and it’s messing up his season this year. Outside of Davis, I won’t really judge anyone’s injuries until we get a brand new medical stuff in here that isn’t related to Nico at all

  18. Need to start the conversation on moving Lively while he has some stock. His injuries and availability is an issue.

  19. He’s only 21, let’s hope he can heal it up and improve his durability.

Reality is the Mavs are just 1 game out of the play-in.  You get AD back healthy soon, and this team is going to make a run into the play-in if not the playoffs outright.  Maybe DLive can get back for it…

  20. Dude’s foot is taking a hella beating, this also happened to Yao Ming.

Some really tall peoples’ bodies just can’t handle the sin game stress of the NBA.

  21. He’s worth waiting on. 21 years old, smart, good team guy, talented, cheap. Not worth selling low on a guy like that.

  22. Probably an unpopular opinion but regardless of the injuries. He looks lost without Luka. He has limited offense, people lose their mind that he added a hook shot to his game. He is turning the ball over, he isn’t a great rebounder, his foul rate is high. Often out of position and late to rotate in defense. No hustle, not enough strength. I get that he’s young and has potential and is on a rookie contract but you could get someone more reliable on a two way it seems. Kai Jones was great for us as is Moussa.

  23. Having gone from the best to the worst training staff in the league might have something to do with this… Thank you Nico Harrison, hope you catch a bad case of chronic kidney stones.
