It’s the same play they ran against the Bucks last year in the regular season. It’s how Tyrese hit the game winner over Giannis in the same spot
To give credit where it’s due, I believe this is Jenny Boucek’s play design. Haliburton talked about the similar Bucks play last year a lot.
I appreciated the team’s willingness to draw the play up for Benn. He struggled last night, but it hopefully gives Benn confidence regardless of the outcome for how the team views him. People will argue he shouldn’t have been the guy to take the shot. But, he’s been our best “volume” 3 point shooter this year.
Honestly I did not like that they demo’ed this wrinkle in such a meaningless game.
Now everyone has it in their scouting report and is going back to make the same cross references so that they are prepared in similar future situations.
I also really liked the play DET ran there at the end and I’m certain every team in the league will play LeVert differently now they they’ve seen it. Don’t get in to a length of the court track meet with Caris but be ready to pick him up at the timeline and for crying out loud keep your “man-ball-me” defensive triangle on the correct side of the play. Even NBA players fail 7th-grade fundamentals some times.
