The Best Start in Avalanche History | Peak Access

Keller shot score the slot shoots in a safe and that’s going to do it. Watch out geeky short side. He scores. Oh no. Uh-oh. Back door turnover. They score. Matthews Avalanche an absolute mess in overtime. I know that the talking point of 0 and5 past regulation uh in October was not great. uh 0 and3 in overtime, 0 and2 in shootouts. But again, you’re getting points. It’s early in the year and you’re learning how to win with this group. But every time you have a new roster, a new group of players, it’s always a process of learning how to win with that group of players. And that’s what the Avalanche have done so far. Well, what makes a great story? To begin, you need a protagonist. A hero who fights for good and in your mind can’t be beaten by anyone or anything. But a great story also tests the hero. Gives him a challenge, some adversity to overcome. Then, just like we knew he would, despite some doubts and unlikely circumstances, he comes through victorious. Tonight, we will experience part of a great story. Tonight, the ABS are back in the Queen City of the Plains to once again dance with the Devils. Sunday afternoon in Newark is how we watched the Sopranos once upon a time. But two days ago, it was a different type of saga that played out in New Jersey. Going down two nothing. Colin applauded back despite losing in overtime for de point in the ninth out of 10 games played this year. Tonight the season concludes the series anyhow in Denver as the avalanche remember resist the devil and he must flee. No shot yet. Now Nature lets it go. He scores. It’s a Marty party down the wall. Parker Kelly all the way through. Here’s Olson. No, it’s particles. He’s got some room. Olson, he scores. Do you want to build a snowman? McKinnon tries one more time. They score all Kelly. He scores. Go ahead and silly. Parker, Kelly. Wow. Factor 17. Turns j it off the leg. Watch out. Mason shoots and he scores. Stephan Mason. Hamilton shoots. Saved by Winwood. Loose punch scor. And then tries to get that one through. Watch out. Put down score. Oh no. Watch out. Here comes Hughes. He’ll drop it off for to Hughes. He scores and everything is falling apart in the second period. 130 to go in the power play. McKennon. He did it again. It’s a one-time from the dot. It couldn’t be any more picture perfect. The Jushkin playing the bumper. He let the one-time go McKinnon. Drop feed. Here’s Olivson looking for two. He scores. Turn over here. Drop pass. Olson. Yeah. Throw the chapel. A lot of guys can get this. Patrick [Applause] in the second there and let’s have a good day off tomorrow. [Music] Uh yeah, no, that was pretty special for sure. Um, I think I had um a lot of chances before I finally got that goal and um it was it was a little bit frustrating not being able to put the puck in the net for the first nine or 10 games there. And um but yeah, getting that first one was definitely a nice feeling and then then adding another two uh that same night was was fun. And um obviously getting your first career hattrick was pretty special. when you have guys that have the natural ability of a release and we’ve seen that here with with Nico Rantin, with Andre Burikovski, guys who just know how to shoot the puck and can score. Everyone, I think, forgot about Victor Olivesson because he played on Buffalo for so many years, but last year he’s with the Vegas, 15 goals, didn’t even play a complete season, but you knew that he had the one-time for the far circle on the power play. He has that wrist or release. There were a couple of options out there, but I think Olivesson was the best option as far as skill, as far as smarts to fit in with this group here in Colorado. And that’s exactly what Chris McFarland did is he went out and he made it happen. And Olson had his choices of where to go. and he chose to come here to Colorado because he knew the way that Chris McFarland knew that he was a a great fit for the Avalanche because of the smarts and because of that release that not a ton of players really have that good of a shot in the National Hockey League. It’s been very easy um coming here and and settling in with the team. And um I think the the way that um they want to play is is kind of um it fits my game really well. I think I’m like to play with a lot of a lot of speed and um like to play with the puck. So I think I kind of fit good into the system and and it was obviously details in the game that that you have to learn, but overall I think it’s been been very smooth. [Music] You’re trying to avoid clouds. Nobody likes clouds over teams throughout the course of a season. And I think in recent memory, you have the cloud of the Miko Ransin situation. You were trying to avoid that happening again. So to get this contract done in October is huge. I I think the money the term is perfect for both sides because the ability to play and think like Nathan McKinnon those players aren’t out there either. Nas is one of those players who has a natural chemistry with Nathan McKinnon again five on five on the power play. This is a team that is in a championship window that has now been extended. I think with Marty Nature signing here for the time that he he has signed and you don’t have to worry about clouds overheads for the rest of the season. Everyone has clear vision and the same view and the same goal of looking towards the playoffs, looking towards another Stanley Cup. I mean, just having the whole camp and getting to know everyone, I felt way more comfortable here. And then, you know, when I saw the way we played started the season, I was like, you know, sign me up for this. Uh, this is this is fun. We have a great team, great culture, and uh, just the future is here great as well. And, you know, I want to be winning and this this is big part why why I signed here. And, uh, you know, I feel like we really built this season something uh, special. what we’re trying to build and building uh something special in the locker room too cuz it’s something then the that the fans don’t really see what’s going in the locker room but uh it’s been real fun u culture has been great and uh then it transfers on the ice swimming here a little bit as Samuel Gurgensson’s and Yanni Gourd on the for check. Oh no, it’s a turnover and Cooerov scores. Gale Mar didn’t see Ferov in the forche right back ahead. York got a stick on it right top to land in the neutral zone. Big lock up. H is underneath the get out of that jab. changes down low. McKinnon trying to go top rebound is there side by the Islanders but not on out scores and Ross holds in his face. Coen right side circle backhander scores his second of the season and comes against his former squad. [Applause] Yeah, great job, boys. Going to get back in the wind column. Team effort. PK power play stepped up. Boys did a great job. Really great job. Everybody [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] on the ice brought Nelson coming off. It’s a lot of confidence to the ultra grimley. Coach Bendard knows she has the speed. He carried into the zone. Bridley should be Bridley. Chris shot saved by his first career game. His third career goal and the ABS have won it in overtime on the second effort. You always need your your foundation, your base. And McKinnon set, you have nature set. Now you have depth pieces set. Parker Kelly, a nice extension there. You just added one for Gavin Brinley as a future piece. So you’re locking guys up at different stages in different parts of your lineup, which I think is very important. You just can’t do your top guys and then we’ll figure the rest out later. You have to have those pillars and those foundation pieces throughout your lineup constantly and that’s what Chris McFarland has been able to do. Now Kale Macar is going to be a Colorado Avalanche and all these pieces of business are being done with that extension in mind. Um and his contract is up after the end of next season. So, it’s smart to get all these done now so you know what you have to work with in order to make sure that Kar is able to stay here at a price that makes sense for him and that makes sense for the Colorado Avalanche. It doesn’t matter where in the lineup, you need stability. And that’s what the Avalanche have on the ice and now with their contract situation. [Music] Was there for a tap and flicking in tries again. He scores. We’re up all night to get lucky. Nushka leaves it for Brock Nelson. Power move behind the net. Nelson tagged after a moment. Loose stick on the ice to the point. Molinsky shot broke. Went right to Nushkin. Lets it go. Rebound score. Oh, captain. My captain. Blinds and fires. Blocked in front. Oh, what a save made by Wedgewood. Great Scott. McKinnon back on this near wing up top for a car. Holds. McKinnon takes the one-time. keeps it himself. Back door feed tipped. Score. [Music] Holds up. Looking for help. Nelson leaves it. McKinnon taps it wide. He’s got a man wide open. It’s Parker Kelly. Go ahead and Sy taps it into a wide open net. Big night. That was a big one. Andy goal by WG. [Applause] [Music] Yeah. No, it’s it’s honestly huge, you know, especially with a kid at home now. It’s like you go home and before it was you sit there and I’d think about it a lot and now it’s like you know she’s all I think about going home and you know we have another one on the way and there’s a lot of life stuff that’s happening as you get older and it’s obviously super exciting and you know big hockey city the fans have really you know taken to me I’ve been able to be my you know my personality and show it and you know the wedgie chance and all that stuff here it’s you know you can’t not feel like you fit in and feel welcomed by everything. So, um, yeah, we like the outdoors. We love the walks. I mean, that the weather here and everything situational wise, it’s been, uh, you know, honestly, like I said, a perfect fit and, you know, starting to obviously be home. Scott Wedgwood said that he always viewed himself as a starting goalender. Well, he sure has played like a starting goalender in his time with the Avalanche since coming over 211 goals against average, leads the NHL as of right now in in wins in the National Hockey League for a goalender. You know that you’re going to get a good performance every night. It’s not like you have you’re one guy and then you have the off night where we have to start the other one. Whether it’s a backtoback, whether you know your starter has has started 10 or 11 games in a row. That’s not the case in Colorado. The lumber yard has done so much for changing how the avalanche approach planning for a game, playing in a game. And the cliche says teams are built from the the back out. And now the back is is set. So you guys are off to a great start. What makes you guys so dangerous? I think we’re well obviously the talent um in in this group is is very special. Um, we got some some world-class players and um, but also the I think we we have a strong lineup. Uh, we got we got four lines that can contribute and and score and um, we’re just also not not quitting in the games. There’s been games where we’re we haven’t had great starts and we’re not playing well and um we just kind of dig in and um fight our way back into those games and um yeah managed to come out with at least a point it feels like and um if we if we don’t get the win. It’s hockey bites cancer night. You have the hat on. What does a night like this mean to you right now? Oh, it’s it’s important. I mean it’s especially it’s close to home obviously right with my mom. So, it’s important night tonight. It’ll be nice to to recognize people who who are fighting cancer, have fought cancer or going through it right now, families that are affected, raising awareness, raising money, right? Raising money for cures and they get affected by it, but just shining light on that. Um, many people know that we’re fighting with it. [Music] Set in front, score. It was deflected and somehow that got through a wedge one fired ahead trying to get by short side beats it and beats it clean. Keep it in [Music] [Applause] your sit on the right. Let it fly. Take it over. Just go slow. Oh yeah. Hard on the just go for John. Bro Nelson got a piece of it I believe. And with 15.3 left. This thing is done. Yeah. I feel like we we started well and uh just getting better every game and Nate and Lucky on our line. I feel like it’s been working and definitely we’ve been trying to work on the chemistry a lot. Now we kind of know where the other guys going to be on the ice and uh you know obviously Nate is dynamic player and he’s he’s unreal. He’s kind of like the guy that I was looking up to when I was in Carolina watching his game trying to play a little bit like him. So uh yeah, it’s great. um feel like we’re still getting better and better, but uh been real good this season and you know um we just try to stay stick with that and uh just be as good as possible. Sound the horn. The Colorado Avalanche become the fourth team in the history of the National Hockey League to play 20 games and only have one regulation loss. They now have won seven games in a row. They improved to 141 and five on the season and lead the NHL with 33 points.

  1. If you've ever claimed that Bednar/CMac need to be fired, don't hide now. Identify yourselves so we all know who the ignorant short-sighted fans are.
