First of all, who you got coming into town tomorrow? Uh, a bunch of family. My my parents, my two sisters, uh, all four of my grandparents, my mom’s sister and her family, and then I got like five buddies coming in, too. So, for you. Yeah, it’s really cool. I think that would be the coolest moment is like seeing those guys and sharing it with them. Yeah. And just with every level that you’ve been in um, from college to the AHL, um, you’ve been able to just increase your goal output, just increasing at every level. And that’s not always an easy thing to do. Just what’s behind that and how have you been able to just refine that scoring aspect of your game as you’ve gone up the level? Well, I think I’ve gotten a lot more reps on my shot and also just in game situations of knowing where to go and then you also play with better linemates and better teammates every level you go up to. So, it helps with guys that can make really good plays and um I think that’s a big part of it as well. Can you differentiate or is there a differentiation between say playing a third line role here versus the top line role down in Wilks? Do you approach the the game or any situations a little differently? No, I don’t think you approach it too much differently. I think you just want to go out there and try to win every shift. Um, yeah, I just think you maybe don’t play as much in the third line, but you just try to go out there and win every shift and help the team really as much as you can. You have some familiarity with VLE. Does that kind of help? you guys are taking line rushes together. Um assuming you might play together, just how does that help to have a little bit of familiarity? For sure. For sure. Um yeah, Villa is always a guy from the first time I I like played with him that I’ve really enjoyed to play with just cuz he’s so skilled and like me and him I think can play off each other pretty well. And um same with Tommy as well. I skate with him in the summer for the last like four summers and we’re always on the same team in the summer too. So, it’s like nice to have two guys that you already have some chemistry with and I think that’ll make things a lot easier for me. Along with Vy though, like what’s it also like to kind of like share this NHL journey with like someone like Vle like Sam, Yona, Sergey, kind of like people you’ve been with for the last like year and a half now and also kind of have your NHL debut with these guys as well. Yeah, it’s so cool. I mean, I took Sergey out to dinner last night. I owed him uh dinner from last year. We did uh we do a shootout competition and he he smoked me pretty good and so I owed him dinner last night and uh yeah, we were just talking about it like it’s so cool just almost going through all the levels and like it’s it’s obviously so stoic and uh such a cool guy to talk to, but I was telling him how it’s hard also not to look back at the journey that it’s been and um yeah, I think it’s so cool to share with those guys and I’m really looking forward to it. Go to dinner. I shouldn’t say. All right. Thanks for your time. Appreciate it. Ryan, I feel like after we talked to you after that Minnesota game, obviously not happy with yourself or just the overall team’s performance, but um from we observed that you and Leang had a real strong bounceback game on Saturday. Obviously still not the outcome you wanted, but uh do you kind of agree with your two performances on Saturday? Yeah, I think we played 10 times better. I think we had a ton of chances that uh could have ended up in the back of our net. We we weren’t really getting the bounces, but uh there’s a couple that were probably a couple inches away from the net that uh I thought we created well in the ozone. I thought we defended well. There was a couple uh plays that me and Tang I would say either whether a big block or a big uh timely box out that uh kind of prevented more goals, but obviously it just we obviously played way better, but we still on for I know it’s like a it’s a weird bounce, weird like weird turnover, but we’re still on for that goal against and it’s uh it’s definitely a step in the right direction. I don’t I don’t remember the last time me and Tanger kind of put together two bad games in a row. So, um, uh, it was definitely nice to get a better game, but, uh, there’s still things that our team can improve on. Yeah. And speaking on improving, you know, Coach Muse said after Saturday’s game that these next two days of practice are going to be like very important. Um, what have you assessed from these last two practices and how is the group ready to move forward for tomorrow? Yeah, I think it was a lot of positivity. I mean, we uh obviously the last I would say last couple weeks have been kind of tough with a couple uh tough losses and uh but uh there’s there’s no excuses from us. Um we show up to the rank every day and we we work to try to get better, try to get our systems better and uh try to improve, get everyone on the same page. Uh but right now it’s just the last two practices have been uh pretty fun, very positive, and I think that’s what we needed. And uh going into Buffalo and going into a backto-back this weekend, um spirits are high and we’re I think we’re going to be ready to go. And obviously I feel like there’s been a lot of NHL debuts for some of these young guys recently, but um just what have you seen from Bros in these last two practices and what’s kind of how everyone else is kind of like rooting for him and excited for him for tomorrow night as well? Yeah, obviously when anyone plays their first game, you’re excited for them. Uh it’s a special day and it obviously you want to you want to get that win for that person. Uh whether I’ve obviously been here for a couple years and you’ve seen a couple first NHL games, so it’s uh it doesn’t get old. Um but for Broer, I mean I’ve seen him the last two year two years in the training camp and obviously his shot his shots incredible. So, I think he doesn’t get as much credit as I think he should on how strong he is. He’s uh he’s he’s very thick. He’s strong in the puck. He’s hard to get the puck from. So, I think, you know, in this league, it’s when guys are I would say being strong down low like he can hold his own. And I’m excited for him. Uh I know his family is probably pumped up just as uh as anyone’s would, but um yeah, if he just plays his game, plays with confidence, he’s going to do well. Thank you, Ryan. Yeah, no problem. just uh where do things stand for Brian Rust? Um the same as yesterday he was uh at illness. So um yeah, is there any risk regarding tomorrow’s game at all or is that still up in the air? No, I mean you always take things a day at a time, but yeah, expectation is um you know, we’ll see where things are at as we get through today, but um no, I mean I’m thinking that he’ll be back and that’s that’s the plan. Uh look like Tristan Jar ramped it up pretty good today. Um do you anticipate him being available? I’m not asking for the starter, but do you anticipate him being at least available for your lineup tomorrow? Yeah, I think we’re still in that um continuing to just look at it each day. You know, you come off the ice, there needs to be some conversations. Um yeah, I think he’s Yeah, I think he’s progressing very well. Um and so I I would expect that he’s going to be available here for us tomorrow. Like he’s had some he’s had some really good days. I think he’s looked good. Um you know, it’s uh it’s nice that we’ve actually been able to have some team practices too, the way we have. So, um there’s sometimes in the year where you’re not able to to get a lot. You’re not able to, you know, see a ton. They’re really quick practices. And I think especially for for the goalies, it’s hard to replicate um you know, a real team practice with just a couple shooters. But, um no, I think he’s had he’s had some some really good days. He looks good and so um yeah, that’s the expectation is that he’s going to be available here. Quinn and Doug Line Rushes, you expect him to be available tomorrow? Yeah, that’s we’re going to another one just someone want to have a little bit of followup there. Um, but I thought he looked good out there. Another step, same thing. It was the benefit of having a couple of good days of practice like this. Um, you know, was, you know, for guys that are coming back to be able to get a little bit more than maybe they would at other points in the year. You made a village season so far. I mean, obviously went to Wils for a little bit there, uh, on the IR for a little bit there. Um, when he’s been on the ice, what have you liked? What have you like what have you what would you like to see him maybe spruce up? Yeah, I think um you know I think since coming back if you look at you know the areas he’s getting to offensively there have been a lot of chances you know so now I think it’s like all right well how do we take that next step how can he take that next step and turn some of those scoring chances into whether it’s you know goals or plays that are leading to goals and you know helping to create their offense there five on five um so I think you know it’s it’s continuing to to just work with them in those areas of the ice um one putting himself in a position offensively um to be able to either you know be a part of getting creating chances there or getting chances there offensively. Um but obviously with taking that next step as well um but I think that that has definitely improved even from early on till recently before he got hurt you know each game we’re looking at it and he’s he’s finding those areas a lot more and that’s that’s the biggest part you know it’s finding that making sure because those are he’s putting himself in some areas that are it is hard to get to. Um, and so that’s what we want to look at, what we want to see. And then, um, you know, I think defensively too, you know, I think he’s he’s a guy who he has been working at it, you know, working at the defensive side. Um, working on some of those details that, you know, I think it just sometimes takes time in the league. Um, but he has shown a willingness to to work on them and he’s shown that, you know, the things that we talk about, he goes out there and works to apply. Go ahead. Yeah, Dan. uh if and when Tristan Bros plays uh he’ll be your ninth rookie in the lineup this season. Is there a thing where you maybe make the game simpler for a rookie making his first or second start? You just throw a kid like Tristan into the deep end and let him go. Well, I mean when you get an opportunity like this, it’s because we feel like you’re ready for it, too. So, I don’t think it’s totally thrown him into the deep end. Um you know, I thought he uh again goes back to I thought he had a good training camp. You know, he he did a lot of good things. You know, he earned a really good impression. Um, you know, I remember, you know, he left here thinking if he goes to the Wilson builds on his game, like he’s going to be a guy who we’re going to see here at some point, I would assume. And, you know, I think when we do, I’m going to be really excited for him and, um, you know, to see him here. And so, uh, I think it’s when you’re playing, you know, going into your first game, I think the biggest thing is you got to just, you got to go play. You know, you don’t need to overthink things. You don’t need to be, um, you know, you can’t be fearful of anything, of making a mistake. like everybody on the ice, you know, is going to make a mistake. That’s just a reality of our game. And so, um, you just got to focus in on those things that got you here. You got to focus in on the things that have led to success in Wils and just go out there and and apply those. And so, I’m excited for him. He’ll be in tomorrow night. So, um, yeah, it’s uh, it’ll be great opportunity there for him and it’s and it’s well learned. What have you seen from Sergey in his time with the Penguins and what will be the plan for him moving forward with Artur and Tristan both healthy? Yeah, I mean I’m not going to go into full plan right now or any of that. Like I think it’s uh you know we just got off the ice from practice and we’re continuing to have conversations and um but what have I seen from him? I think he’s he’s an extremely extremely uh prepared. He’s extreme uh competitor. Um, I love his his dayto-day like like and even going back there to seeing being around him um you know when he came in for training camp and um just so the way he competes every day in practice um you know the the preparation that he has just all the time um you know I think for a young for a younger player it’s really impressive to see and so um I think he’s been very consistent in showing those traits and you know between the you know the off ice preparation the on ice competitiveness um and then obviously he’s somebody too who’s got a lot of uh technical skill and so um yeah he’s he’s been pretty consistent in showing those things those qualities. You guys play a lot of games in the next month and you’re beginning to see the locker room just populated with more and more um young talent youth guys just does that help when you play a lot of games in a short stretch like that to just have fresh energy fresh legs um in those youth guys? Yeah, I think I think it does. I mean there’s there’s a mix here though. So, I think it’s I think there’s I think it’s both. Um, you know, I think that is you get some we need the young guys driving the energy, but you know what? We need the the veterans driving the energy. And I think they they it’s it’s a little bit of both. That’s what I’ve been seeing, you know, and I think it’s um you know, it’s it’s been it’s actually been really good to see, you know, because you have that and um you know, the young guys obviously I think there there’s there’s natural energy that’s going to be coming from them because they’re young and you know, obviously it’s the excitement of being here. Um, and then I think there’s also energy though that can be driven from some of the veteran players flip side to that go to the younger guys and and them seeing like these guys have been doing it for 20some years and they’re staying out just as long as as we are and they’re having just as much you know um you know there’s just as much competitiveness in practice as there is with us young. So it’s it’s a little bit I think it kind of can come from both sides. And um you know that’s for me I I guess you come in here it’s like you come in with eyes wide open you don’t necessarily have a you know expectation of what that’ll all look like. Um but that’s what I’ve seen you know from the kind of two two ends of it and then it’s everybody in between also making sure that they’re pushing that energy and they’re pushing the dayto-day. Um you know and so you need you need everybody pulling on that. Thanks coach.
