The Avalanche Are On Pace To Break The Record For Most Points In NHL History w/ Tyson Barrie
Welcome to the Empty Netters podcast. Can you believe what this has become? There’s a full 48 hours where I felt like I was like literally Superman. Jumbo loves playing Fortnite. So, he gets on the stick. Did TR show you the Sona cycle or was that all right? No, I invented that. Almost a year now that I haven’t taken a body check. That’s kind of nice. [Music] Finished tonight with some chicken fingers and a few Guinnesses. Ran into you guys. Uh, that’s where this pod came to life. We’ve got a huge episode coming for you today. We got to get right into it with all the hot ice that we need to talk about. And also, Tyson Barry, unbelievable NHL star, joins the podcast. One of the funniest guys you will ever hear. Some of his lingo, some of his slang. Out of this world. Can’t wait for you to get into it. So, we won’t waste any time. I am your host, Dan Powers. Over here on the sticks. We got Sean. He likes it rough. Buff. The Irish wonder back in the sticks and to my left. Last night I slept Winnie the Pooh style. Top no bottom. But this guy sleeps in full sweatshirt and sweatpants every night because his rain odds makes a corpse look like they have fantastic blood circulation. Chris Powers as always. I’m the coldest boy who’s ever lived. It’s [ __ ] crazy. Maybe Brett. Maybe Brett. Me or Brett? Our buddy Brett is bad. But you sir are you have a disease. Yep. Uh and Sandra got a new comforter at the house that is is a cool is a cooling comforter. Why would you why would someone do that to a person who’s literally freezing to death? Well, here’s the crazy thing, Dan. It’s the hottest thing that’s ever existed. Interesting. So, this cooling comforter is slowly suffocating me. And then she goes, “Isn’t it nice?” And I go, “Yes, but it it’s not nice.” No. No. I wish I was dead. Yeah. You need you need to do a better job of telling your girlfriend when things are going poorly, which is often. I wish I was dead. But instead, you just sit there and go, “Yes, everything’s fine.” And you instead you have a miserable life. It’s a cooling comforter. It’s absolutely It sounds awful. It’s a furnace. Yeah. Sounds really terrible. What’s funny is if it did its job, it would be a bad thing for you. You’d freeze to death. But unfortunately, I don’t know if this is like a double negative situation. You’re now roasting. That’s interesting. Maybe it’s my fault. Maybe it is cooling her, but I’m so cold that it’s heating me. It’s like sucking the life force out of you to cool her, but it’s heating you up. I don’t know. This doesn’t make sense. Ah, we’ve got a lot to get into. Speaking of hot things, hot ice is hot as hell. There are too many DMs and too many requests to talk about this for us to not get into it. We’ve got to talk about Jack and Tate. What a dinner that probably was. Do you think she cut his steak for him? Oh, great question. Yes. Do you think he reached for a glass of wine and she went like this? Don’t care. Don’t be careful. Be careful. Can he get some plastic cutlery, please? Could we get his grape juice in a sippy cup? Yeah, please. to make sure everyone’s okay. That is that’s a big dinner, Dan. It’s a big dinner. I have a lot of thoughts on it. Me, too. Uh I have a lot of thoughts. Number one, it is such a tough look how so many of the reports or or the headlines that came out of it were like Tate McCrae to dinner with man in a handcast. I’m like, he is one of the best players in the NHL. Dude, it’s like when we do the six-man volleyball tournament out here. Yeah. And Jack came a couple years ago and we were playing and there’s a there’s a actually I bet someone who listens to this pod knows these guys so I don’t want to talk [ __ ] about them, but there’s a group of volleyball players called the the Walk the Walkman. Yeah. Or something and they listen to Walkmans and they’re really good at beach volleyball and they beat the [ __ ] brakes off us, Sean. They beat us so bad that it was we played best of three. They beat us like 21 nothing and 211 or something. And at one point they they played an entire point of beach volleyball of six on six beach volleyball from their knees and I was like all right. Uh but they were hitting I want to be clear. I was not on the court. I was just coaching. They were hitting the ball. Things would have been different if I were on the court. You and Marky Mark, dude. Yeah. Crazy reference. Things would have been different. Uh they were hitting the ball at Jack and he’s like screwing up and the ball’s flying everywhere. I could see them laughing. Not like maliciously laughing at him, but I could see them being like this [ __ ] kid. Cuz Jack’s not an imposing dude. No, you just see like some kid on the beach. And in my mind, I’m like, they are laughing right now cuz they’re like, we are so good at this sport and this random kid sucks. And I was like, that dude gets paid $80 million to be one of the best NHL players on earth, and you don’t know who he is, so kindly stop laughing. Yeah. And that’s how I feel about that headline article, too. They just like I need more respect on Jack’s name. It was hard hard to look at. Uh I want to take a quick moment of silence. I know for our boy Will Smith, you hate to see this. You dude, you this you hate this playground. This is playground [ __ ] where you’re like, I’m the man. I’m going to talk to her at recess and then some other The sharks are buzzing. You’re buzzing. Yeah. He’s like this things are starting to look up. like we took took a couple swings here and he was like, “Okay, maybe I’ve missed a couple times, but I’m I’m getting better. I’m getting closer.” And then this happens. I mean, he’s got 21 points in 23 games. That’s wonderful. He’s h he’s like, he’s being like, “Oh, I’m a name.” Yeah. I’m a name, babe. Yeah. And then here you go on a date with another hockey player cuz now you’re [ __ ] You might. No. No. No. You’re not yet. Oh, I think you’re [ __ ] now. Because here’s the thing. One of two things happens here. Now, I I love love. I hope these two get married and live happily ever after based on just one date. Now, let’s say that doesn’t happen. Right now, young Tate has a reputation. Yes. Of dating NHL players is in. So, either she goes, “This is getting out of hand. I can’t be going on a date with another NHL player.” And Will is dead. Or this is a thing now. And Will needs to make the decision. Do I want to be a part of a thing? He does. I don’t know. I already know that. No, you don’t. He does. No, you don’t. But it at what number? Okay. First of all, dude, shame on you for what you’re do now doing is [ __ ] shaming. No, you said does he want to be part of a thing? And I said, that depends on what number I become part of a thing. Yeah. No one said anything about numbers. You brought up number which is you’re that shame on you. Shame. You No, this is ridiculous. No, no, no. That you know what you’ve done. No. I I am the biggest pro [ __ ] person on earth. I hope she bangs the whole [ __ ] league and we celebrate her and we will celebrate. Clean it up. Okay. Now you’re Now you Now you are being mean. No, I’m saying clean it up. Clean up the clean up the language you’re using when talking about love and romance. [ __ ] You said [ __ ] first because you brought up numbers. You’re Yeah. Then you said [ __ ] and then then I said [ __ ] and you went, “Hey, clean up the language.” No, but you’re you’re saying it as like an act. You’re being rude. You need to be You Hey, it’s 2025. You need to get your act together. And I’m celebrating uh promiscuous women. Yeah, but you’re celebrating love and openness. And I think if if I’m will or I’ll speak for myself. I think if a girl had dated two NHL players and I was an NHL player, I’d go, I’ll date her. If a girl had dated 200 NHL players, I might be like, am I just am I just another notch on your belt? So, I would say that there is a number of dating where I’d go, okay, I am now part of it. To me, it’s all about his heart. It doesn’t matter the numbers. It’s it’s all about do you So then when you said when you said why would Will be or why don’t don’t try to get defensive because you are a bad guy you have you have been so the thing you were speaking of shouldn’t have mattered at all because no it matters heart it has to do with emotions the thing all that matters is heart which is what I’ve said from the beginning and you need to learn how to be a better person like me in the way that you look at love You you coldhearted prick. I think you’re right. Do you think that the devils have any issues with this? Yes. Me too. This is the natural, dude. This is this is full on. And And it’s not it’s not just that. For me, it’s this. Thank god the injury happened first. Oh, could you imagine? Could you imagine? Or if it happened at the dinner. Yeah. Can you imagine if his mishap happened at this dinner? That would be crazy. But I I to me I go like this. If I’m If I’m in that front office, if I’m on the team, Yep. and Jack shows up. I go like this. You having a good time, pal? Oh, cut cut my hand out. Eight weeks. Yep. Now I’m going on dates with pop stars. You having a good time? Do you even care about this team at all? But don’t forget, he gave the most inspired pregame speech or he gave the most inspired speech of all time to the fellas at dinner and then and then cheersed and that’s and his hand was sliced open. So don’t forget he had the best intentions. Yeah, don’t forget that. I I just feel like it’s this is tough timing. Mhm. You have you’ve had a silly boy injury that might cost your team dearly and here you are about to miss two months of the NHL season again and then you go on a date with a pop star the next week. It’s tough timing. Yeah. Yeah. Oh yeah. I’m I’m thrilled for him. I’m thrilled for both of them again. Like I said, I hope they live happily ever love but it’s tough timing. Love’s all around, dude. And if this we could you imagine if this is a natural situation? It is. It is a natural situation. Roy, what was her name? Yeah, great question. [ __ ] And also, she is the judge’s niece. Yes, there’s a relation there. Yeah. Yeah. And she also was dating Bum Bailey and he died. Yeah. Yeah. Bump Bailey ran himself straight through a wall. Killed himself. Dude, he got too fired up. Someone said, “You need to start playing harder.” He chased down a flyball and ran straight through the center, right center wall. Wow, dude. I got it. Hit me. You act like you did crazy research. Would you go on IMDb and look up the natural? I’m actually surprised she was just so uh near the top. Oh yeah. Um her name is Memo. Memo Paris, which is incredible. Memo Paris, of course. And how do we not know that off the top of my head? I forgot. That’s bad by us. I forgot. And um you know this actress, but I’m trying to give you a good hint because this is sick. God, good career. Do you know who it is? Yes and no. Kim Bas. Yeah. Yeah, it’s Kim. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I forgot that, dude. That’s him. God, The Nice Guy is a great [ __ ] movie. Oh my god, dude. eight mile. Anyway, this is a memo pair situation. This is a potentially listen if if Jack suffers any setback on his recovery, if anything happens with Olympics, it might be Tate’s fault. Y, but it’s not Tate the person’s fault. It’s Tate’s aura’s fault. You’re too big. It’s not her heart. You’re too big. Heart’s in the right place. You’re You’re too big of a star. There’s too much going on. We got to let Jack heal. Yeah, correct. It’s crazy. Moving on to another Hughes brother, Quinn Hughes in Vancouver. We’ve got all the talk spiraling yet again. And I I have I have deemed it time to discuss. Feel like we’ve we’ve tiptoed around this all summer and then all beginning of the year, but now here we are CP and we’ve got speculation that Quinn Hughes could be moved sooner rather than later. Um, Kucks insider uh Rick Delel said recently on his podcast in an article he was like listen I mean he didn’t like break this news. Someone brought it up and he was like listen it’s not the craziest thought in the world and frankly if they do it I would do it now. I would not wait because if you wait until next year it’s an absolute gong show. Couldn’t agree more. The Canucks are seventh in the Pacific right now and everything looks ass. Quinn has 20 points in 17 games. He is, you know, the most efficient player on the team. But you’ve got Elias Person who is playing well. I think he’s got like 21 and 23 or something like that. Brock Besser playing well. But just the this Canucks team is after two years ago, they seem to get everything right. They seem to figure it all out. Then last year, major disappointment. Now this year starting out as a major disappointment over a quarter of the way through the season. What are we doing here? What are you doing here? Because we we’ve got to talk about this, dude. It’s I haven’t tipped or I guess we haven’t talked about it that much recently, but I have never tipped around this. I think it is the height of insanity that he’s on this team. He has I I don’t think he Here’s a good comp, dude. Not to always bring it back to this, but the Crosby [ __ ] when we’re like, he might get traded and everyone’s like, he would never. He’s never said that. And I’m like, no [ __ ] He’s never said get me the [ __ ] out of Pittsburgh. I’m just telling you the truth. I’m telling you what’s actually happening. Quinn Hughes is isn’t even that far. He’s never literally gone I hate it here, blah blah blah. But Quinn Hughes wants to be traded. Quinn Hughes would like to go play with his brothers. Full stop. But can you I think you are I I think if he heard what you just said, he’d be like, “Fuck you. That’s not true.” Then he would be lying to my face. No. No, he wouldn’t because I’m not saying he said that. But Okay. Well, I think that is important to say at the top. I did. I said he’s never said. Yeah, but you you are going he wants to be traded as if you know. You don’t know. Well, this is what I’m telling you. That I just want to be clear about that. Like Quinn Hughes has never said to me because that’s the only way you can know. Correct. Even if Quinn Hughes told to the media or to the world. Yes. Quinn Hughes is out of his mouth. I’ve never heard it out of his mouth. Correct. And that includes if Quinn Hughes told someone and then that person one degree away told you it still doesn’t count. True. So, Quinn Hughes, I don’t know because of Yeah. th those clarifiers. No, but I’m telling you, you want to you want to get into that. Quinn Hughes wants to play with his brother. If you’re using your brain and your deduction skills, you are like, “Yeah.” And and and to swing back to Crosby, I don’t think Crosby wants to leave Pittsburgh. I just think he was like, I would love to be in playoffs and and blow. I think that’s literally Yeah. the only thing he wants. Queen Hughes wants to be on a team with his brothers. That would be fun for him. And the fact that the Canucks [ __ ] blow again. And like we all knew they were going to blow. Yeah. And I’m like, you’re going to for what, dude? You’re going to lose him? Like the only question at this point for me now is, and I’ve never solved this, is when you get the most value back. Is it is it a mid-season? Is it at the deadline when people are desperate? Is it over the summer? I’ve heard people say summer because it’s, you know, there’s more ducks in a row with contracts and you can, you know, people are up against the cap mid-season. So maybe you figure that out, but he better be gone by this summer. Yeah, I think it’s now or this summer, but even this summer, it’s like it just feels so obvious. And I know teams are like, we have no time to waste. Like, we can’t wh why why wait? But I’m like, why pay? That is my question. Free agency. Yes. Um Yeah. I mean, a whole another year. It feels crazy. I know. But at the same time, I’m like, if this kid I if it seems like we’re having this many conversations about it and the Conucks are actively being like, “Yeah, it looks looks bad.” Then I’m going like this, “Well, I’m not giving you anything.” Well, wouldn’t fair, but wouldn’t the Conucks trade him for for like if the Devils are like, “We’re waiting,” for example. Sure. And the Canucks and Quinn’s like, “I’m leaving, dude. I’m going to walk to New Jersey for free in free agency. I’m calling every team in the league and trading him somewhere he doesn’t I don’t know what his no move [ __ ] is, but like I’d be trading him where somewhere to piss him off just to get something back. I mean, like, listen, you could and should do that. Yes, but I I suppose this is my point. Like Quinn has Wow. I don’t think Quinn has a no move at all. He doesn’t. He’s got nothing. So, I’m like gone, dude. You Oh, you’re going to walk. Okay. Good day. Yeah, but so like my my point is those teams like you you go like this. I’m going to trade him to where like okay what is what does that do that I showed him cuz my point is why would any team give up massive assets for him right now unless they are in a I need to win right now and Quinn Hughes might get me a cup right now in which case sure like we always say trade anything for a cups are the only thing that [ __ ] matters but that is my point like if I if I’m a team and this is what I wanted to talk about with this there are teams that I’m like, like look at Detroit. They could absolutely use a great left shot defenseman and anyone could use Quinn Hughes. It would be great to bring him back to Michigan. But if I’m Detroit, I’m not trading ASP, for example, which is what would the ask would be. Yep. If he goes like this, well, I’m just going to sign in New Jersey after next year anyway. You know what I mean? Yeah. This is like me go ranting all over again. Like you don’t trade for this guy unless you go you are obviously extending 8 years this like or or seven years next summer instantly if we trade for you and if he’s not like this yes of course then I go I’m not trading for you. Yeah, I would say my only and this is very anecdotal, but my only counterpoints to that would be I guess part one if every team is lowballing you because of all the leverage you just said, then you have to lower your expectations as Vancouver because you can’t go well then the ask is this and I’m like well you’re not getting so you lose them for free. So either take less or lose them for free. Okay, that that was my initial point. Yep. And then my second one, again, this is what the anecdotal part is, but if last year the Panthers go, yo, instead of Seth Jones, let’s say it’s Hughes, and then you win the cup and then everyone’s there and they go stay, dude. Like he he signs there, he trades there intending to go, I’m going to Jersey in a year, but then he goes, actually, what happened to Brad? He goes, actually, this was [ __ ] sick and I will stay here. And I go, oh, nice. Thank you so much for saying that because this has been my platform for over a year. I said it during like some hockey talk this summer. I was like, dude, I don’t think it at and I I’m talking out of my ass here. Yeah. But I genuinely don’t believe it’s as set in stone as everyone would like to think that he is like this. I will literally only play for the New Jersey Devils because I’m like, what what kind of a statement is that? Like what if he gets tra You think Quinn Hughes doesn’t have other friends in the league? You don’t think there are other places that he’d be like this? This is pretty sweet. And it’s it’s one of those situations like imagine if Vegas trades for Quinn Hughes and Quinn Hughes goes down to no state tax and is playing with Jack Eel and he’s like this is pretty [ __ ] sick, dude. I’m having a good time. You could so easily see him staying there. So, I wanted to bring this up and talk about other teams. I brought up Detroit because I’m like, dude, you if you’re another team, you can’t let this whole New Jersey [ __ ] stupidity make you go, uh, it’s not even worth us exploring trading for Quinn Hughes. Quinn [ __ ] Hughes, who is at the table with Kale Mar every year as the best defenseman in the league, who has $7.8 8 million of a cap hit for the this year and next year. In what world do you not try to trade for that guy? I think it is crazy that we aren’t having more discussions of how many teams in the league there are that should be going we’re going to trade for you and we’re going to go here’s our pitch for you to stay here. Like don’t [ __ ] go like you’re going to go to New Jersey just because your brothers are there and it’s overloaded with left shot defenseman. Like come be our guy. I think it’s nuts. Me too. Well, yeah, maybe not as not to do, but I think it’s completely relevant. Like, it’s it should be open season on Quinn Hughes right now. I I everyone and their mother should be asking to trade for him and see what happens. No question about it. Also, I would give up whatever. I know you’re like, don’t give up too much assets. I would give up [ __ ] damn near anything just to get him for a year and a half just to see. Do you not? And I I I we we’ve we got we have to be fair because we’ve had this topic with everyone and we talked about it with Lane Hudson. We talked about it with whomever. Quinn Hughes is going to get you almost 100 points. Yes. But do you worry about guys like this who are a little bit smaller dur who are a little bit smaller, who aren’t big, who aren’t going to push guys around in the front of the net, and who don’t have playoff success. Like Kale is good at D as well. And I’m not saying Quinn’s bad at D, but I think if you have eyes and you watch the game, you would say very confidently Kale Mar is a is a more adept defensive defenseman than Quinn Hughes is. Quinn 510, dude. Um, yes, agree completely. And and I do have an issue with that. And I do think it’s durability. And I’m not even saying he’s a he’s Jack’s more hurt than him, but he it’s hard to be that size and go on long grueling playoff runs. Yeah. Full stop. But you’re still But you’re still making a move for him. I’d probably make a move for him because I do think he’s that talented. But I do think that’s a massive concern. Not massive, but a um a legitimate concern. Yeah. God damn it. He is so good. It’s insane. His last three years, full three years in the league, 76 points in 78 games, 92 points in 82 games, 76 points in 68 games. Currently has 20 and 17, but it’s East. Someone do something. Yeah. Get free him. Talking about a team that is doing something. You, sir, are start you were you were looking so right. Oh, dude. And now you’re starting to look so wrong because the Minnesota Wild are in a fivegame heater. Um it’s exciting to see when I made the prediction I said Minnesota hockey being good I think is incredible. Not it makes me it brings me no joy when Minnesota hockey isn’t good. I just thought there was going to be some interesting [ __ ] going down in the central and someone had to suffer. You attempting a spin zone right now? Uh no. Okay. This that that’s almost verbatim what I said. in in uh September. How do they make those picks? Um so this is great. I’m glad that they are playing well. Uh and it’s really like always, dude. Every time teams turn around, it kind of starts on the back end. Three shutouts in their last five games. Two on the road. Oh yeah. Which is sick. Eight and0 in their eight goals for zero goals against in their last two games. Um like everything still at this juncture in the NHL season, it’s pretty jammed. things are pretty jammed up and the Wild have played more games than anyone in the Central. So, they’re like, “We’re in third.” And I’m like, “Well, you’re actually probably in sixth still.” But it’s I always hate that though because they are literally in third. They are in and by the way, they have enough points up that like and it’s not a guarantee that everyone below them is going to win every game. And buddy, 8-1 and one in your last 10. That’s ain’t nothing wrong. Ain’t nothing to shake a stick at ever at any stretch in the season. Um, so this is [ __ ] sick. And Gus is looking good again. Carrill, it’s nasty. Matt Baldy. Gross. That’s exciting. Oh my god, it’s unbelievable. Cannot even believe that you have talked this long without talking about Yesper Walston. Yesper Walston. Unfucking real goalending performance. Guys coming into this league has played two three games in the previous two seasons. He now comes in seven starts, 50 and2. Has not lost in regulation. He’s got a 926 save percentage and a 22 goals against. He is a [ __ ] wall for this team right now. And it’s so dope because there was some guys this year we’ve been talking about where it’s kind of out of nowhere you’re having an insane year. And in zero sample size, but his last two years where he got three games and two games, it was 897 save percentage, 301 goals against, 843 save percentage, 409 goals against, and you’re like, “Oh god, he stinks.” and then now he’s disgusting. But I don’t mind jumps like this when they’re 22 and 23 because you’re you’re maturing. You’re getting used to the league and that [ __ ] It’s when someone has an insane one at 27 that I’m like this doesn’t feel sustainable because you you have a longer run of being bad. This you could have something sick on your hands. And I also feel like this happens to the Wild a lot. Like they just have this there’s a goal they’re like I think they have their goalie and then they’re like actually we have an insane new goalie. This guy’s really really good. And you got to ride the hot hand. I mean, he has been unbelievable. But yeah, I mean, you’ve got Marcus Johansson turning back the clock. 19 points right now. What is going on there? But then Joel Erikson Ek has 15. He’s surprising everyone I I think or showing everyone the exact type of player that he can be. And then, you know, we we loved the pick of Krill for MVP. And obviously there are guys like Nate Dog and Mlin who are just out of control so far this season. But Krill just with 27 points. Everyone talking about this team’s been so bad and he has 27 points and now here they are on a heater in their last 10. They’re in a playoff spot. All of a sudden everyone was going night night sleepy time on the Minnesota Wild and here they are [ __ ] surging back and playing exactly how people thought they could play. And the big thing has been defense. You talked about those shutouts. They were just giving up. so many goals. Everyone on the decor was a dash 15 and now they’re starting to tighten it up, lock it up, slam the door, and the Wild are back. It’s actually so sick, too, that and even though we had both said with Krill’s new contract, he’s going to have to be a very productive player, which he’s always been, but you got to keep doing it now. And I would say both you and I expect him to be higher on the on the point race, you know, but it is sick that they are have climbed back into the situation they’re in right now without that, right? Where he’s just he’s doing well. He’s just but he’s just humming along and you expect a krill surge still. And think about their potential when you get that. Think about their potential when krill really goes. Oh my god. When you get when you start krilling, when you give them the codes to the nukes, dude. Dear God almighty. Then it’s a problem. We went into this episode wanting to give up another gas up segment and we were going to do it to the Buffalo Sabres. Yes. Because Buffalo Sabres on a nice little rip here. Four and one their last five and a couple of really good wins against the Oilers and uh the Hawks and now the Canes too. But unfortunately for them, the Colorado Avalanche have won nine straight games. Of course, the Azer better and they still have not. And like here’s the deal. Buffalo, good job. you’re still like third to last in the East and I’m not going to talk about you just yet. You need to do a little bit more. So, we do sadly for them have to talk about the fact that the Colorado Avalanche are and continue to be the best team on earth. Can I tell you guys something sick? So, the Aavs are 900 and one in their last 10. They still they only have one regulation loss uh on the year and they have no regulation losses at home which I believe is what the Bees did that year. They broke the record for lowest points. Let me give you their month of November. Okay. Yeah, I’m going in reverse. Win on the road Hawks one- nothing. Win against the Preds on the road three nothing. That’s backto-back road shutouts. Beat the Rags 6-3. Beat the Islanders 4-1. Beat the Sabres 6-3. Beat the Ducks 4-1. Good win. Beat the Canucks 5-4 and OT. Beat the Oilers dog walk 9-1. [ __ ] you. Beat the Lightning 3-2. And then on November 1st, their only loss of the month is the Irish Wonders snipe job on the on the parlay to the Sharks. Their only loss of the entire month is when Sean said they were going to lose. It’s absolutely insane. I just can’t I can’t get over. Also, I’m so mad. Last night we picked our our parlay and we picked the over five and a half in that game and I was like there’s going to be goals galore and then we just have two stud performances in net and it was funny cuz I was the first to be like Jesus Christ this is looking horrible and people were piling on in the comments and I was like we got everything else right I got the Kale point we got the co the Colorado win like get off my ass legs dude get off my ass but They’re out of control. I My my take on Landy was is so correct. You again, you were so wrong there. God damn it. But the he’s just he’s got the group so together again. They’re on to something. Nature signs and he looks perfect. But dude, do we have to talk about Scott Wedgwood being on team Canada? Oh. Um, how do you possibly laugh at that? How do you How does that noise? How does that noise come out of your mouth? He’s unreal. I think you probably I think it probably should be talked about, but they that would never happen. Why? It’s such a stupid dumb person take. And I’m not saying you’re being a stupid dumb person, but it’s like I’ve heard that before and I’m like what? He’s fourth in save percentage in the league. He’s third in goals against in the league. Like actually can’t believe it’s not better than that. What are we doing here? Um also, are you dying? Are you okay? I am dying. What’s happening to you? If if team Canada went, “We’re bringing LT, Scott Wedgewood, Scott Wedgewood, and someone else.” Uh, oh, this is another one everyone forgets to bring up. We forgot to bring up. Darcy Keer should also be in that conversation every single year. But anyway, bring an LT as your starter and then Wedgewood as your backup. That would be such a that would be such a [ __ ] pull by him to start this year where they’re like you are the backup here but and then he goes actually I’m the starter here. This what I the reason I laughed cuz I thought you were going to ask this. Yeah. If you were like is Mackenzie Blackwood has Mackenzie Blackwood completely lost his job. Well I mean I think the answer to that is yes which is crazy I guess. But like you 100% stay but it’s I’m just saying it’s a crazy turn of events. Yeah. like SC Scott Scott Wedgewood being like, “Yo, what’s up?” 33y old Scott Wedgewood and like let me look up his some previous years here. I mean, dude, he has played 17 games. 17 of these games, dude. He was actually [ __ ] nails for the abs. And he’s 131 and two. Like, it’s like when he got there last year or wait, is this Yeah, this is Scott. When he got there last year, he was actually incredible. That is a hot hand if I’ve ever seen. Yeah, dude. Play the hits. Play the hits, bro. It’s [ __ ] crazy, man. Okay, so you have Team Canada’s goalie and you have Team Canada’s best player. Actually, you have Team Canada’s two best two best players. That’s interesting. Makes a lot of sense. You have the Team Canada goalie and their best forward and their best player. It makes a ton of sense when you think about it. They’re all on your team. Yeah. And think about your best defenseman on the ice. Doesn’t he want to have his familiar goalender behind him? I think so. If if Binner continues what’s going on through December and into January, the I I’m I’ve gone back on everything I said. I have no idea what world you put him on that roster. You can’t sit with us. You can’t sit with us. And I’m sorry. You can’t even be on the bus. Yeah. Get out of here. Uh the ABS can do no wrong, Dan. The ABS can do absolutely no wrong. Um I’m I I feel so scared that we’re gonna mush them right now with all this stroking. Just 13 goals. Dude, you know what’s crazy? Nushkin has less goals than assists. I know. I love it. He’s becoming He’s becoming He’s blossoming right in front of our eyes. And you know why, dude? Because Ly’s in the locker room. Yeah, cuz now his mind is right because Nate tried to get his mind right and failed several times. He got his mind so [ __ ] up. Dude, can you imagine the sick thoughts? the sick thoughts that are are being stuffed into that man’s head from NATO. But now, dude, everything’s fine. God, this team is they have to win. They have to win. I You know what scares me? I think it’s different, but when you start this hot, it’s like the Bruins record-breaking season. Everyone everyone that season was like, “Yeah, they’re winning. They’re winning at all.” Like I was getting texts being like, “Fuck, man. The Bruins are going to win the cup.” And then you lose in the first round. And you’re just like, remember Monty’s interview? This was my favorite point he made where he goes, “Playoff started.” And the PR people and and the staff were coming up to him discussing second round plans and travel, logistics for like the conference finals, like how many tickets do you need to the cup? And he was like, “Shut up.” And then you lose in the first round. And but that is honestly the AB’s biggest enemy now is that is is people have already put their name on the cup. Getting too far ahead of yourself. Yeah. Yeah. You got to start losing some games. You got to start losing. Hey, they have the Sharks next. Sean, what do you think? Can the Sharks do it again? I feel it in the air. Dude, I just saying if Just saying, listen, this episode comes out on Tuesday and the Sharks abs Wednesday and the only loss the ABS have all month is to the Sharks. I I am absolutely hammer [ __ ] the ABS money line in that game. They’re pissed. They’re pissed. What? And also the ABS haven’t lost the regulation at home. So it would have to be it would have to be uh how many more home games do they have? Let’s see. One, they have Sharks at home, Habs at home this month or no till till uh Winter Classic. That’s what the Beast did. Canucks at home, Panthers at home, PRs at home, Jets at home, Mammoth at home, Kings at home, Blues at home. That’s nine games. a lot of work to do. That’s nine games. Yep. That’s nine and0. That’s crazy. That’s That’s [ __ ] crazy, dude. They Chel when he called them Chel Malibu the other day, I was like, they’re they’re the best team right now, but that might be a little early. I think Malibu should have been saved. And then they were then they proved him immediately right. And I was like, “Oh, never mind.” I mean, Nathan McKinnon leads the league at 37 points. Kale Mar is tied for fifth in the league with 29 points as a defenseman. People forget that he plays defense. That’s a crazy thing that people do is that they look at the the stuff that he does and they go, “Oh, he must be a firstline center.” But unfortunately for them, he is a defenseman. I’m going to tell you this. This is Well, I do just want to mention like Martin Nus has 28 points. Well, I it’s like anyone Good pickup. Good pickup. Here’s what I’m going to say to you. Uh here are the first place teams in every division. The Detroit Red Wings, gold minus four. Insane. The Carolina Hurricanes, gold diff plus 13. The Anaheim Ducks, gold plus 11. The Colorado Avalanche, gold plus 38. Whoops. Whoops. Holy [ __ ] Okay, next thing I want to talk about, Dan, is uh something we discussed last week. Yeah. Unfortunate unfortunate mayhem going on in the league with one Miko Randon. Alexander Romangh had shoulder surgery after the hit he took from Rant. He’s going to be out five to six months. And we had said like I I said I don’t think Rant should get suspended, which he wasn’t. And then I said, “But it does suck cuz if Romanoff misses time, sometimes you want the guy to miss the same amount of time.” And I didn’t realize he was shot dead, which he has been. I uh Oh my god. So Patty W’s pissed. He was making some comments and I dude, that is not a dude I would want. Oh, he was threatening Rantman’s life when he was going down the tunnel. He was like, “Wait till you come to New York, dude. I’m going to [ __ ] cut you with a skate. I’m going to rip your leg off your body and use the skate blade on your detached leg to slit your throat.” Yep. That’s what Patrick Wall said. That is shitty. Like, I don’t want um I didn’t want this to happen to to Romangh. Like, this sucks. This whole thing sucks. Uh, and then Rantin made a comment immediately following the Romanoff hit, and I’m going to read you the quote. He said, “I want I don’t want fancy Ellis. I think it I think it’s Ramanov.” Oh, Ramanov. Okay. Oh, yeah. I think it is, too. Yeah. He said, “Obviously, I never meant to do that. I’ve never done that my whole career. I play hard, but I never try to be dirty on purpose. I think I got clipped a little bit.” So do I. Yep, he did. And then he fell forward. unfortunate moment, but I never really meant to do it. Hopefully, he’s not too bad. Unfortunately, Romanov is too bad, but that’s there’s nothing wrong with that quote. That’s a wonderful quote. Yeah, there’s nothing wrong with that quote, which brings it which brings me to my He goes like this. I don’t do this. This is not me. So, that happened on Tuesday. I didn’t do this. That happened on Tuesday where he was ejected. Yes, that happened on Tuesday. He’s ejected. Immediate ejection. No, no suspension because they know all good. You were clipped. Yeah. Then on Saturday, boards Matt Hornado from behind. Immediately ejected. Immediately suspended one game for two ejections inside a 41game period. Whoops. I don’t do this. This is not the type of player I am. Never done that in my career. I thought the Coronado one was way less bad and Coronado turned into it. 100% correct. I I got him right into I got into it with a uh uh col a Chicago fan yesterday who was like which one of us does is delusion cuz I said that on during hockey talk I was like it’s a absolutely hits him in the numbers I think he should have got a game misconduct but that one I was like oh bang bang play and Coronado absolutely turned last second into it and I if you can’t see that something’s wrong with your eyeballs but it it is a like you’re just you were kicked out of that game. Yeah, no question about it. And I’m I’m There’s another thing. Ranton’s I mean Coronado’s on the boards and Ranton’s like coming up the boards with him. He’s not coming across the ice. But it was a bad hit. And I am a little bit like Moose. Calm down. Stop. Stop breaking the law, [ __ ] You keep seeing numbers and you keep hitting people. Stop. Defended him. The only thing I want to say is, and I felt this way about the um the Ramanov play in the same reason I brought up the Mark Stone thing on Mero last year, I know it’s such a fast game and and you got to be finishing hits and if you’re not, you’re going to get in trouble and and guys want to play a certain way, but I am just of the belief that there you can hold up in the in the last second in not a way you won’t make contact, but in a way you won’t follow through. I actually do think Coronado turns into the head completely, but then Rantin finishes it and I’m like, I know he turned into you, but I just really think he could have like been like, “Oh, dude, I believe and I don’t think he had to shove Romanoff after he got clipped.” I believe that we all forget the quote Brad Marshand had after Sam Bennett donkey punched him in the head. Yeah. when Marshian was like, “People don’t want to talk about it and maybe you guys don’t want to know it, but we’re trying to injure each other out here.” Think I thought he meant playoffs though. I think it’s all year. Yeah. He’s 100% right. In playoffs, they are actually trying to hurt each other. The dude, people forget that when you are playing competitive sports and and certainly when there are millions of dollars on the line and history on the line, even in regular season or not, I we’ll be out there during beer league. And if I get into it too much with someone in front of the net, I will literally my wires will cross and I’ll go sloof at this guy. Yeah. And you do that. They they I have the thoughts. I don’t do it. But like last weekend or last week during beer league, like I rubbed a kid against the boards cuz he was pissing me off. Yeah. But it was nothing cheap. But also you can’t hit in beer. So it was cheap. That’s illegal. Gave him a little rub. So, I agree with you. There should be a every time you see numbers, you should be like, “Oh, fuck.” Yep. But the point is, I think going into the play, you’re going, I want to hit this person so hard into the boards that they’re they can’t play, their head pops off their body like a bobblehead. I do agree with that. If you get an open ice hit, like a clean hit lined up, you’re going, I hope this [ __ ] bury this in the ground. Yeah. So, yeah, I guess I I’m I’m with you. I guess that’s what I’m asking of these players where I go if someone turns into it and it’s the their back. I’m like just don’t I and you’re right. Don’t do it. But I’m telling you I think you’re already seeing red frothing at the mouth like a bull and you bad dog bubble cuz you’re going I Here we go. And your entire existence and then they turn and you’re supposed to go like this. [ __ ] Oh no. Yeah. Bullshoot. I don’t think they can. It’s very tough. But we gotta do something. We got to do something. You hate to see injuries like this. I know. I know. It’s absolutely terrible. But Ranton, this is a deserved peewee. You need to calm down. More injuries that suck to see. The Winnipeg Jets star goalender Connor Halabuk is out for four to six weeks after undergoing a minor arthoscopic knee surgery. Yikes. Don’t like knee stuff with goalies. uh lingering issue. It had been bothering him since training camp. He’s been playing through it. Everyone’s saying he’s going to be fine for Olympics. This and that. Is Is this exactly what Hellabuk needed? This is You took the words right out of my mouth. This could be just what they needed. And you know why, Dan? Helluck has played at least 60 games of the past four and six of the past eight. The only two he didn’t was during the pandemic shortened seasons of 2019, 2020, and 2020, 21. Dude, it is irrelevant that my client has been ridden more than Seattle Slooh. Dude, because the fact that my client has been written more than Seattle Slooh is irrelevant because he has he this man literally been taking the whip, dude. To the whip to the whip. run to Conor Halabuk for [ __ ] six for eight years. He is truly the scene in Green Mile going, “I’m tired, boss.” Like, it’s you’ve done too much. You’ve played infinitely too much hockey. He’s been in 14 games this year, he was 8-6 with a 251 and a 913, which are actually completely fine off his scorching pace from last year where he won another Vzna and the MVP, which was complete horseshit because Cooch was robbed. Correct. But they he’s been good but clearly hurt because you know what you get from him. Well, you know what this is for me? When someone goes, “Oh, Connor Alabuk has had a nagging knee injury from overuse.” And I go like this. No [ __ ] Really? What a surprise. Your your goalie that you use like a workhorse. He’s building pyramids out here. Is tired. Holy [ __ ] So I I’m Thank God he’s getting the surgery, but and and I maybe you could have avoided this [ __ ] I’ve never heard him say this, but he strikes me as a vassie guy where he goes, “I want the games. I want the shots. Don’t pull me. You leave me in. Feed me everything.” But I think I mean I don’t know how old he is, but I feel like you got to go, “Hey, dude.” I think he’s 32. You need to play less. We need to play you less. Here’s an idea. Play less games. Hey dude, you know how you blow in the playoffs? You know how you’re too tired all the time? What if we gave you more days off during the season and you were fresh in playoffs? Here’s an idea. Do less. What if he was like, “No, I’d go like this.” Okay. What if he went, “Trade for Wedgewood. Play him in playoffs. Play me regular season.” The Colorado Avalanche would go like this. Excuse me. You want You want me to trade the best goalie in the league? Also, I think it’s funny. Would you just look that up? What is Hellbook? 32. 32. It’s hilarious that we were you were over here earlier being like this Wedgewood 33y old Wedgwood. We want to bring him to Olympics. And I’m like, well, Connor Hell’s 32. No. No. I I only rage when it’s a swing of of numbers. You are a Get the fat out of your ears. You are a [ __ ] shaming agent out of your ears. And you can’t hear anything. You are a scumbag. You can’t hear anything. You are such a [ __ ] bad guy. You’re death. You’re a bad guy. It’s unbelievable, dude. You’re the guy in uh Get Out. You’ve you’ve stuffed your ears with the lining of these chairs because I can’t hear and I will hypnotize your [ __ ] Otherwise, I will [ __ ] You’re going to make me hate old people. I’ll put you to [ __ ] sleep. I thought you were all about protecting our goalies. And here you are shaming. Yeah. Protect Scott. He can’t go to the Olympics. He needs to rest, Dad. He needs to rest. He can’t be flying to Italy. Do you know how your legs swell on a flight like that, Scott? You can’t go to Italy. Oh my god. That’s insane. You come out looking like Baymax. That’s insane. Wow. Nice. You like that? Uh, I do want to talk real quick about one more injury. Uh, Charlie Makavoy had been placed on IR after breaking his jaw, going through a surgery. And, uh, his wife popped on Instagram, uh, this morning, I believe, and was just like, “It has been a wild few weeks for our family. Appreciate all the love.” And Charlie’s looking pretty puffed up. Oh, dude. Um, my guy. But it does look like that shot to the to the dome piece was uh, worse than people think. Yeah. And it does make me think that our theories that uh Coach Sullivan’s leave of absence Yeah. was to go deal with something Charlie related. Yeah. And other family stuff. So sending love to the Makavoy family. Well soon big dog. That’s wild [ __ ] We are going to take a quick ad break then we’ll be back to talk some college hockey. We’re back and it is time for Netters College Puck Drop, giving you the weekend recap of the college hockey space. Lots going down. We got a new number one team in the nation. Yeah, most likely. Most likely. Is it already out? Wow. Oh, it’s out. We got a new number one. We got a new number one, folks. We’ll do our We’ll still do our top top five. But godamn you love to see it. Start us off CP with the game of the weekend. We declared BC Maine. You’ll be the double header of the weekend. Love me some hockey East action on Friday. Uh they were at BC. Important to note, tough to play at UMA. On Friday, BC won 73. Teddy Stiga three points. Hagens two tucks. Dean Lerno goal and an assist. Come on. And BC’s looking hot. And I was thinking when they won that game, I was like, dude, they’ve been on a run. They’ve I think that was like maybe five in a row, something like that. Tightening the ship up for sure. Yep. And then Saturday, Black Bears respond um 3 0 uh get the split. Tough one. Tough place to play. Um huge answer by Maine, who has also been a little they’re they’re very back and forth. I mean, this main team is the voters love them. Yeah, they don’t they don’t suffer much from these losses. NBC, like I just argued, is a really good team. So big split there. That’s actually kind of the theme of the college hockey weekend when I was watching games. Um, a lot of splits. A lot of splits. Um, but god, hockey East just has a special place in my heart. That was a really good one. Yeah, more hockey east. Uh, UMass Providence 1617 or 1716 respect respectively in the country. Uh, we had a 2-1 OT win. Uh, UMass takes that first game. I think both these teams are like they’re I think they’re right right there right where they should be in that like you know 16 17 ranking but this was just a great kind of slugfest for me and then the 5-1 smackdown by Providence in game two was just electric. It’s something cool about the series that you get like it’s I actually see that it’s easy to get splits because you’re now you’re pissed like you’re extra mad, you know. Um Mike D’Angelo sick game on on that first one on Thursday with the had the first goalie and then the OT winner. What a weekend. Um Cornell had a good weekend. They hosted 19. Cornell hosted 20 Union on Friday. This is one 121. Then they hosted RPI who’s God we love RPI and I can’t wait for the future which is so bright there. Um but they took care of business there. Cornell did with a 6-1 win and then Union after leaving Cornell took a tie against Colgate on Saturday. So actually not the best weekend for number 20 Union. No, but Cornell finally getting in the mix here playing a bunch of games and they are you know we kept joking about how they’re ranked. We were like they haven’t played games but they’ve come in here and they just keep taking care of business. So Cornell is a good team. Yep. Talking about the best team in the country though without a doubt. You have the game hockey version. Michigan Ohio State in Ann Arbor. And this was the leave no doubt performance that I said Michigan needed. They beat the brakes off of little [ __ ] boy brother Ohio State 52 and then 81 on Saturday. TJ Hughes [ __ ] buzzing all over the place leading the team. He’s he’s really come on. TJ Hughes is just, you know, he’s the big dog on that team, right? He he’s the older statesman and he is just [ __ ] crushing it. But we always talk about Ohio State, you know, not a highly ranked team that that’s, you know, going to make this a massive fixture of a game, but at the end of the day, it’s Michigan Ohio State. I don’t give a [ __ ] what the rankings are. It’s like we always It’s like back in the Tom Brady days, Pat’s Jets. Jets could be the worst team in the league and you can still lose that game because it’s just always intense. It’s always fiery. The rivalry is buzzing. And Michigan went in after a couple of tough losses in the last couple of weekends. And they beat the wheels off this team. And now they are the number one team in the country. And they [ __ ] deserve it. Yep. Um they they’re going to be in it right to the very end. Um they are explosive, too. I feel like this we’ve seen it and they have some bad losses, but there’s just the the offensive firepower that they can bring is crazy. High-end talent. Uh 12 Nor Eastern. Nor Eastern had number 18 BEU at home on Friday. They got a 3-2 win. They were down 2-1 after the first. And then on Saturday, BEu was hosting and they pull off a 4-3 win. Um BEu was up 3-1 and Nor Eastern scored twice, including with a minute left to tie it. But then Cole Hudson got his second of the game to win it in OT. That was an important win for BEu. Uh they they have have had a weird season. They Yeah, they just doesn’t matter. Cole just told us that they’ll be fine, but they’ve had a weird season. And Nor Eastern is good. Nor Eastern’s very good. So, so it’s Yeah, it’s hard for me to be like, “Oh, that’s tough.” I’m like, “No, this team’s been great.” And and Nor Eastern has been upsetting teams all year, too. And and they’ve been kind of making people go, “Oh, [ __ ] Wait, this this group’s really good.” So, to get a split there and and a gritty win for BEu, I’m like, I’m not mad at that weekend at all. Same. Not mad at that weekend at all. Then we’ve got 11 Yukon going to UNH Friday. They beat them 4-1. They come home on Saturday and they lose. 4-3. UNH super pesky this year. You love to see it. We’re making UNH great again. Do you feel good about their season though? Um, no. Because they aren’t competitive in the or or they’re not in they’re not in the mixer in the way that as far as the ranking. Yeah. Like you look at these hockey teams like Nor Eastern, like Maine, um, that are are doing it. Yeah. And they’re not there yet. And that makes me sad. But they aren’t a complete rollover. Go there, get two wins. See you later. Um they’re going to finish this season with some good wins on their resume. Michigan State obviously Yukon here. Like that’s they’re on the way. Yeah, we’re moving towards good things at UNH. And we got to keep it up though. Like don’t don’t rest on your laurels and think to yourselves, “Yeah, yeah, no. We’re we’re doing it’s like no, no, no. You got to keep cooking.” Yeah. My fraud watch hardcore. Wow. hardcore fraud watch team of the week and frankly has kind of been all [ __ ] season. Number five Penn State loses to Minnesota and and it’s t it’s harsh because Minnesota was supposed to be great. They’ve just been terrible and they were they have been the biggest frauds and it was in Minnesota. It’s not an easy place to play. Sure. But Penn State was up two nothing after the first period and then you lose 3-2. Yeah. just not okay. Uh Saturday they win but 2-1 and like even that they scored super late in the third to get the win which you which you love but it just like wasn’t convincing. McKenna had three assists over the weekend. Is McKenna your lock number one pick still? Yes, for potential alone. Um but I hear you. I think it is very very interesting. I think Merles was talking about this the other day. Yeah. Did you hear his joke? No. What’d he say? He goes, “Uh, everybody was like, “Oh, yeah. You know, it’s um I still think he’s the lock one, but uh you’re seeing how hard it is to produce in college.” And Merles was like, “Yeah, I mean, not everyone can have 50 points your freshman year in college.” Which he did. Yes. And everybody was like, “Oh my god.” Um, yeah, it’s this is one of those things where if he doesn’t go one, this is a backfire for the NCAA going we are going to easily steal all the CHL kids because Oh, I don’t think that you think that I think if he falls out of one yes cuz the CHL goes if you would stayed here and had 120 points which you obviously would have done you are the hammer slam dunk consensus one. Then you went to college and either got exposed or not, whatever you want to call it, but what happened happened and now you fell to three. I think that is a feather in the CHL’s cap. I I think it makes players go, “Oh, [ __ ] yeah. I got to go to college.” Like that’s how I’m going to thrive. Like it’s clearly a better league. Yeah, but you you fall in the draft now. They go, “You’re you are now exposed. So now you don’t go here and you don’t get the money you were going to get and whatever. And I’m just saying that’s what they’ll argue. Yeah. And that’s it’s a good point. College is I’ve been we’ve both been saying it’s not even a conversation. College is a way better league. Yeah. Uh but it’s like what do you value? Do you want to just keep your draft stock? Yeah. Or do you want to go play against tougher dudes or just go to college and be better? Seriously. Um I mean I I think he’s got what does he have 18 points or something right now in the league or in in college hockey? Um, yeah, I think it’s four goals, 14 assists or something like that. But, uh, yeah, I mean, I I think he’s probably still the number one still, but I don’t think it’s it’s a foregone conclusion. Like, this objectively isn’t going how a lot of people thought it would go. Yeah. I think people were going, “This kid’s going to score every single game. He’s going to be out of control.” And and it’s interesting because we’re seeing Penn State kind of struggling here. Yeah. He’s 45th in the nation. Yeah. No, that can’t be right. That can’t be right. That certainly cannot be right. Um I think he has 18 points average. Yeah. Yeah. But anyway, moving on to a team that we were gassing up a lot. Number three, Denver. They beat Arizona State 7-1 on Friday, but then on Saturday lose 32 in overtime. Little bit of fight from Arizona State. Uh I I think that this is a a a shitty slip by Denver, but I’m not making excuses. I’m not totally phased by this. I think Arizona State has a lot of great talent on that team and this feels like a classic, oh, you won on Friday 71 and then you just go in Saturday and you’re kind of asleep at the wheel. Yeah, we’ll see how they bounce back next weekend, but uh not the best. Not the best. Then I’ve just got a few nice ones here. Western Michigan number eight beat Omaha 72 and 4-2. Everyone keeps chirping Western Michigan being like they’re not good and I’m like they win they win games uh in a year where parody has been so king. So those are great wins. Uh, number 14, Minnesota State beat Michigan Tech three nothing, 3-2 in a home series. Gotta have those. And number nine, Quinnipic. Uh, beat Clarkson 4-1 at home and then beat St. Lawrence 4-2 on Saturday. Got to have those, too. So, yep, those are nice. Uh, Duth and the Plant Bros continue to be absolutely absurd. Um, they get a 4-2 win down 2-1. Max Plant Natural Hattie. Whoops. Bang. Whoops. Um, but then Colorado College, as we’ve said, I think great team. They get a 2-1 win in OT after that, but um you know, little slip for Duth, but I think Duth is still one of my top teams in the league. Now, you would think given me I would take this time to [ __ ] on Michigan State. Yep. They are a phenomenal team. Porter, unbelievable player on that team. This is going to be a segment that more gives credit to [ __ ] Wisconsin, dude. Wow. God damn. Unbelievable. Michigan State at home in East Lancing. They’re playing number seven Wisconsin and they lose both games. 5-4 on Friday after being up two nothing. Porter Tuk tucks back and then 2-1 in OT on Saturday. Porter ties the game with 40 seconds left in the third. Insane. But Wisconsin gets both wins. And as much as I’d like to [ __ ] on Michigan State here, you drop two at home when you’re the number one team in the country. I am more fixated on how good Wisconsin is. If you watch those games, Michigan State did not play poorly. They didn’t. Augustine, I think, is one of the best, if not the best goalies in the country. So, to give up four goals, that’s credit to Wisconsin. And then you have a barn burner 1-1 game going into OT in the next one. And it’s just like this was this was gritty gritty stuff by Wisco. Yeah, dude. On the road. I can’t stress that enough. coming in there and doing that is gargantuan. So crazy. That was easily the the big one of the weekend, but that changed everything up, switched everything up, and that’s why now we’ve got some [ __ ] new number ones. Yep. Let’s get into our game of the weekend. Would you want to do rankings? Well, that’s what I was. Do you want to do rankings first? Do you want to do game of the weekend? Let’s do our rankings. Let’s do our rankings. Number one, got to have it. Michigan. Absolutely. Got to have it. Deserve it. Number one is Michigan. Now, the rankings are out and I’m agreeing with the rank. One of them is one of them is. They do two different ones. One of them’s out so far. I’m going Wisco. Yeah. Previously number seven just went into Michigan State and beat them twice. How would we say? Hard to put Michigan State over them, right? Yes. How would we say Wisconsin? I’m I’m the biggest like these should be more reactionary guys, so fine. Yeah, Wisconsin number two Wisconsin. I have a hard time not keeping Michigan State there, but I don’t if if if Duth had won both, I would go Duth or Denver. Same. Like I think the some of these guys didn’t Penn State lost. Like there’s too many slip ups elsewhere. So I will keep Michigan State three. But then I would probably go I’d probably go Denver. I would hear a duth if you wanted. Oh to jump Denver because Denver lost to Arizona State who’s been bad and Colorado College is good. I believe that that’s what I want. I would go Duth four. Okay. Duth four. But then I’m definitely going Denver 5. But then we have to go Denver 5. I’m definitely going Denver 5 and then So we’re going Michigan, Wisconsin. Yep. Michigan State. Michigan State. Duth. I like it. And then unfortunately, you know who’s taken a massive jump for me? I think I saw BC had him in his top five. Who had them in his top five? Quinnipiac. Oh, and Oh, okay. I I I QU is is a is an easy top 10 for me personally. Oh, for sure they’re in top 10. But I think maybe we’re on six, right? Yeah. Do you want Are we doing 10? Yeah. [ __ ] yeah. Let’s go. We’re I’m going Western Michigan. Okay. Then Quinnipic. Okay. I like it. You’re giving me Quinnipiac at six seven. Stop it. [ __ ] Jesus Christ. Um I But then then we maybe do have to slot in Penn State. Or you just want to dog them, dude. I might dog Penn State. Just dog them. Uh let let’s reverse engineer it. Putting I’m putting Penn State at 10. I’ll keep you top 10. Okay. So then we need eight nine. Yeah. I gotta go. Maybe North Dakota. I love North Dakota, but I’ll tell you who nine is. I I love Maine. I can’t have Maine top 10. You know who nine is? And this is final, so just accept this. Yeah, tell me. Dartmouth. Oo, love it. Do it. Do it. Dartmouth nine. Dartmouth nine. Okay, so we’re going Michigan, Wisconsin. Yep. Michigan State, Duth, Denver, Western Michigan. Western Michigan, Quinnipak, Quinnipak, Northakota, North Dakota, Dartmouth, Penn State. That is our top 10 in the country. Unbelievable. Now CP, let’s discuss the games of the weekend. Okay, so it’s Thanksgiving week and there’s no huge um you know, two versus three ranking matchups. That’s true. We’re splitting it up. I’ll do the Friday one. Black Friday, Thanksgiving week. The Vermont Catamounts are 47-0 this year, but they had a really good win, 2-1 at Maine two weekends ago. She can’t sleep on them. And they’re crossing the border into New Hampshire to play Dartmouth. Dartmouth is 6-0. They just beat Cornell 2-1 at home. Trying to show the Ivy League some love. Dartmouth is [ __ ] legit. We just named them number nine. So, Vermont, Dartmouth, Friday, Thanksgiving. I really, really like that pick by you. It’s f It’s just great. That’s awesome. Um, Saturday, one of our few ranking games, we got Beu Cornell, and I like that. I like that matchup. Not it’s going to be uh like 1819 matchup. Uh, however, I’m going Denver, Minnesota. Okay, Denver, Minnesota. We know we’ve [ __ ] on Minnesota, but look at Minnesota just taking care of business against a very good opponent in Penn State. I just think it’s two illustrious programs. Minnesota Denver. I really, really like that game. I think it’s gonna have a lot of pedigree. That’s a great jersey matchup. Yeah, it is. It is. Great jersey matchup. So, that’s the one I am tuning into on Saturday. Amazing. Fantastic. Beautiful. Beautiful stuff. God, we’re loving college hockey. Everyone start dialing in. It’s going to be fun to be watching after Thanksgiving, too. Yes. So, you know, get into that. All right. We’re taking another quick ad break and then we will get into our Tyson Barry interview. So, the other day I called up Bower Hockey. I give him a buzz and I say, “Listen, I need you to get in the lab for me. All right? go into your R&D and then start making something that I want a stick. I want a stick for you to come out with that that feels like a mid kick but shoots like a low kick. Could you do that? How much money would you need out of my wallet to make that stick? And they said, “Chris, keep your money. Put it right back in the wallet. We already made it. It’s already out on the market. It’s called Bower Pulse. And it is the first stick on Earth that adapts to the way you shoot. I’m always trying to make my shot with the stick. Not anymore. Those days are long gone. Shoot how you want. the pulse will adapt to what you were doing and you will be sniping all the time. It’s actually incredible what they’ve done. Okay, they’ve got the midkick feel and the low kick release and that brings a new level of speed and accuracy to every part of your game, not just shots, the passing too. They’ve got a uh a raised ink design on the shaft that provides this like extra grip premium. Remember like the old grip sticks that were too much? This is like perfect way. My gloves will get wet with water or sweat or whatever. And it’s just like a perfect level of grip on this raised ink design that it just changes the game of the way you can hold and manipulate the pulse. And then, okay, it’s the blade. It’s this stiff and lightweight blade core. So, you can feel the puck when you’re stick handling. Obviously, for shots, it’s great, but catching a pass and stick handling, it literally feels like back in the day when you I’m old, but back in the day when you would use a wooden stick. And when we moved to these fancy new sticks, that was the number one complaint. Everybody was like, “Oh man, I can’t feel the puck like I used to.” Uh the old heads, me and the old heads saying, “You can’t feel the puck like they used to.” Remember even the two pieces where you have the with the the graphite shaft but the wood blade just to get the feel. You don’t need that anymore because the pulse does all of that for you. It’s actually insane the way it has changed the way I pass, the way I shoot, and the way I stick handle all with one new stick. I asked them to do it. They already done it. It was really incredible. So, if you would like to level up your shot, you have to get this stick. You have to get the pulse. And when you’re on the ice, I want you to make sure your game starts with this stick. You will feel the difference if you get your hands on one at bower.com. We are joined today by a Victoria, British Columbia native, the 64th overall pick of the 2009 draft to the Colorado Avalanche. also played for the Leafs, the Oilers, the Predators, the Flames, a world junior silver medalist, a world championship gold medalist, and now a media darling who snaps it around in the booth just as well as he snapped it around on the ice as an analyst for the Vancouver Conucks, Tyson Barry. Welcome to the Meters podcast. Thanks for having me, lads. Much appreciated. Oh, it’s an absolute pleasure for us. Been a long time coming. Uh, tell everyone where you’re coming from. You’ve got one of the nicest backdrops I’ve ever seen. Oh, yeah. know I’m just uh down in Arizona uh in Scottsdale visiting my parents with the family little uh you know get out of the rain in in Victoria. Oh yeah. Catch some rays. So um it’s been a nice little trip. It’s perfect. When did the parents head down to Scottsdale? Oh years ago. They’ve been down here for see like 15 years maybe. But um it’s a perfect spot for them. And like what a spot for me. Guess you got to visit the uh visit the grandparents. is I’m just jumping on a flight down to a so it’s perfect. That’s fantastic. Yeah, I was I was going to say our our parents are in Maine still and I’m kind of like, “Hey guys, Arizona is great. It’s closer to us and it’d be way more fun to come there.” So, think about it. Golf all year. Yeah, exactly. It’s unbelievable. How’s uh how’s retired life feeling for you? Is the body feeling good? The body’s actually feeling worse, I think. It’s like, yeah, it’s like uh you know, you kind of like you kind of stop doing all like the, you know, uh training and you know, when you’re playing, you’re moving every day. You’re skating and training. Now I’m just kind of like a piece of [ __ ] But like I feel like rigamortis is setting in. Like I got to get back in the gym here pretty quick. It’s uh my groins hurt. I don’t know why. Oh, that’s a problem. Yeah. I thought you were I was I was with you on the like you know I mean obviously you were eating very clean especially after knowing Nate but you were eating very clean during your playing days pregame meals and everything but you it’s crazy how fast the sub sandwiches add up when I’m not doing anything [ __ ] I had uh I was a little hung over yesterday I had firehouse subs for my first meal and then um we traveled also so I think we landed and I had like the equivalent of like a buffalo wild wings for dinner. It’s just pathetic. I am sat sat for eight hours by given I’ve given myself like January one. I I keep saying like I can’t retire, get out of shape and get in shape all in the same calendar year. So that would be insane. January one like big changes are coming. Then we go. Yeah. I But you said it best like this this is a year for you. Like we’re just, you know, we’re going to take it easy. We’re going to eat as much firehouse as we want and this is fun. Jan one gives some time for the groin to heal too, you know. Yeah, exactly. My left my left groin’s hanging on by a thread. I have no idea why. It’s piece of dental floss, dude. Yeah. Are you golfing out there? Uh I haven’t golfed out here. It’s been more of uh just kind of um family time really. And then I was just down uh Denver for a few days too. So doing a bit of traveling and Nice. Okay. Haven’t swung them yet though. There you go. All right. Yeah, we’ll get there. But hey, speaking of Denver, obviously wanted to start out the chat here with the uh Avalanche days. And you know, we’ve heard you say that you consider when you look back at your career, you you look at the Avalanche is kind of like that home home, the team that you came in with. And you had a really awesome entry to the league. Watching you get drafted and be with that team. It’s really fun looking back at all the crazy names that you played with, guys, and you know, Landy and Nate and Stassy and stuff like that. How cool is it for you to, you know, look at the beginnings of your career, the time you spent there, and look at that collection of guys who are now still to this day some of your best friends on earth? Yeah, that’s the best I think, you know, with a bit of time to reflect and kind of go through the retirement thing. It’s um, you know, for me it’s the the relationships and um, you know, those just by happen stance, you get drafted to a team, you don’t know who you’re going to play with. And I got lucky uh, really lucky to to meet some of my, you know, lifelong friends there early on. And um you know, it’s cool to be able to go through kind of that NHL journey together and uh you know, guys get traded and play on different teams, but you’re still kind of running parallel paths and uh meeting up for dinners on the road when you’re playing against each other and world championships and all that kind of stuff. So, very cool to kind of uh you know, work the same time frame with a few you know, few uh familiar faces. Yeah, absolutely. And you know, we’re actually been talking about uh the abs a lot this year and I bet you have. Yeah, right. They’re all right. They’re all right. It’s been really cool with, you know, obviously Landy came back in the middle of last season, but now seeing this season, the first full season he’s been back with the team since they won the Cub. Seeing the immense impact that he has on this group, could you see that early on with him when you came into the league, you’re all of a sudden you’re in training camps with him, joining the team, coming up, learning about the NHL with him. Could you see a leader in him early on? Yeah, I mean, he what he played one year and then he got to C. Yeah. Um, yeah, they were definitely leaning on him early. Um, yeah, he’s been, you know, he’s funny. He’s kind of like, uh, he looks so young now, but I feel like when he was younger, he kind of looked older. Like he’s just like always been this like distinguished kind of gentleman. Um, kind of uh, you know, wise beyond his years. So, he’s been 30 his whole life. 30. He might be 30 his entire life. So, yeah. Benjamin buttoning himself right now in the NHL. It’s unbelievable. It He really is. and it’s so nice to see him come back and um you know it was nice to see him get a couple goals the other night and get on the sheet. So yeah, he he means the world to that dressing room and um yeah, I don’t think that’s any secret how how great of a leader leader in person he is. So it’s really nice to see him come in and you know start to get uh start to have that impact. Yeah, you had a hilarious comment and joke when you said uh first time you saw Kale play in the playoffs, you were like, “Oh, my time is done here.” Yeah. Was it was he another obvious one? Yeah, it was even before that, man. Like I I swear he came in and it was a morning skate of uh like whatever game one maybe against Calgary or game I can’t remember what game we played, but like we do that drill. It was, you know, the forwards are on the four blues and it’s a warm-up drill. You just give it to the D. They go D to D and you throw it cross ice. He got the puck D to D and he had like, you know, he kind of passes with his hands tight together. He snapped the puck and he was like through the neutral zone and I was just like I was like what I was like what the hell was that? I’m like this is that looked different than what anybody else is doing. Uh and then we ran some power play after the morning skate and he was kind of jumping in on reps where you know subbing me in and out and I was like [ __ ] like this kid is unbelievable. And then obviously he went on had a great start uh to his career in the playoffs and then I was shipped out shortly thereafter. So writing was on the wall for sure. He’s a special you know if you’re going to lose your job to someone like at least have it possibly be the greatest defenseman of all time. So So what a good way to look at that. I mean it’s like he’s genuinely we were saying it’s like how old is the kid? He’s like 28 years old and we were saying he’s already I don’t think he’s I don’t even think he’s that old. I think he’s like 26 maybe. But time 27. Yeah, 27. But like even that I’m like if he retired tomorrow, he’s already in the Hall of Fame. It’s it’s it’s insanity. Like the guy is ridiculous. But uh it is it’s so crazy, you know, like we talk about Connor all the time and how how much skill there is in the league now and then seeing guys like that do the things that they do when no one else can. It’s it’s what and like Kale is doing that every single day. It’s so crazy. Yeah. him and him and Hughes like they’re just going back and forth every year like hey who’s going to who’s going to win the Norris this year you know so truly and then you’ve got um you know Lane and Schaefer coming up now who also look so special you know it’s exciting time for the position which you kind of helped Shepherd in Yeah. Well and I’ll take like maybe a I’ll take a tap on the back but those guys are the way that they move and skate is just it’s just different than anything that I was ever taught growing up. So there’s definitely a new age. I think that is so spot on, man. Like we were talking to to Dowy about that is like, you know, he was talking about it was at Four Nations. He was talking about Kale and it’s like the the sort of like pigeonfooted pivoting across the blue line and he’s like, I didn’t learn that growing up. Like these guys are doing this new thing and it’s [ __ ] nuts. But uh go going into another guy on the abs and we were talking about golf earlier. Uh you know, we heard that early days golfing out there with Nate Dog. He wasn’t wasn’t very good on the course, but Typical Nate spent a summer and just got himself to like a five. Is that true? Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. He was He was actually miserable to golf with, too, because he was so bad. Like awful. And you’d laugh like he’d do something ridiculous like hit his ball. It would go backwards and like hit the cart. He’s brutal. And then you’d laugh and then he’d turn and be like, “Fuck me laughing at dude, you’re brutal.” And then uh he he caught the bug. He went and uh hired a instructor and put in like I don’t know. I think it was one summer, man. It was literally like quick. He came he left at like a 30 handicap and came back after the summer at like near scratch. Like he was good and he’s Yeah, he’s just I honest to God if you had said there there’s one guy in the NHL right now who did that. Who do you think it is? I I would say like it’s it’s just like he’s such a psychopath. It makes so much sense. Yeah, he can he can dial it in. Yeah. Is he Is he a little easier to to poke fun at in anything these days or is it all Okay. Yeah. Keep in mind he was 18, right? And he was Yeah, true. He was he was raw. So he uh he had a lot of uh he was going through a lot of emotions back then, I think. And um it’s part of what made him special. But uh yeah, he’s I I would say he’s softened a lot in his uh we’ll call it old age. I think he’s 30 now. So um yeah, that’s uh a lot of learning he’s done over the last 12 years. So uh it’s much more enjoyable to golf with him now. It’s good to see. It’s good to see. Yes, it is. Yeah. Yeah. Was there any Were there any fun trips with him golfing early that you remember where where someone pushed him too far? Oh, no. I mean, we do those golf trips. There’s a group of four of us that go every year and um we didn’t start those until he could actually play, which was nice. But uh yeah, there I mean he can play now, but we still we still get competitive. You know, there’s been a couple near brawls on the course, but at least it’s you know, we’re playing good golf at least, you know. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. True. I mean, dude, they call him Nate Dog for a reason. Like, the dog is in him. He’s not It’s not going to go away on the No, no, it’s it’s in there. He’s He’s sweet. He’s softened a lot, but like don’t push it. Does he hit Does he hit it a mile now? I feel like he’s hammers that one timer now. So, you must He does. Yeah, he’s he can he can hammer it. He’s got like the PXG driver. It just goes like 300 yards every time. Yeah. Yeah. Love it. Yeah. God. Uh well dude after the ABS you get traded to Toronto and um which was you know huge trade right like Hudrey goes back the other way help them win a cup it was a big deal you come in with a lot of expectations to Toronto and under Babcock it wasn’t the smoothest start I’m sure you would say and then Keith comes in and immediately you’re a weapon and I wanted to ask you we hear so much about the scrutiny and the pressures of playing in Toronto. Yep. What was that like from your experience in that kind of like crazy pressure cooker roller coaster year? Yeah, it was, you know, it was my first time being traded to, so that comes with kind of its own emotions and stuff. And then definitely I got traded for Nas, uh, who was a big part of that team. I know he’d taken some belligerent suspensions in the playoffs, but like he was pretty beloved by the city, so there was some pressure that came with that. um you know and and Babs he was I won’t speak too much on it but yeah I think one of the first things he said to me was he goes you know I wouldn’t have made the trade was a big part of the team I was like okay sick this is going to go well you hey nice to meet you yeah um so it was an interesting start uh you know and then I I’ve always kind of thought like you look around the league and anytime a team trades for a guy who kind of does the same role as another guy you know a power play quarterback’s kind of one of those roles where you kind of only need one. So I I got traded uh and Morgan Riley was there and you know he was having great years and he was running the power play and I was kind of like okay where am I going to fit in here and um I didn’t. So it was uh it was tough and then uh Kefir came in and uh you know kind of gave me a look to to play on the power play and with some of those top guys and um yeah it was it was you definitely need a fit when you’re going to come into a new team. you know, you need to find your role and and have a purpose and um I think that’s a big part of it. So, uh it was nice to get a little bit of a shot and then co obviously tanked us. So, it was what it was. Um because I know you were like taking the subway and everything to games. Did it feel the way people make it sound is it’s like even a civilian media civilians alike are all up in your business all the time in Toronto. Everyone knows you are. Did it feel like that or not as bad? Not crazy. Um, yeah, I did take the subways and yeah, mostly positive interactions though, you know. I think it’s just it’s more of that like, you know, uh, talking heads on on the sports networks and then the the ruthless Twitter trolls. Um, oh my god. You know, like I was for us, dude. It’s insane. Yeah, I bet they do. Welld deserved. Uh, I was getting I was getting Yeah. pretty ruthlessly trolled on Twitter, but like you can not read it, right? So, I was pretty good at trying not to read it, but I think there was like a couple of the it might have been TSN guys or whatever they were that might I’d come home and my girlfriend at the time would be like, “Fuck, they were all over you tonight.” Like, why? I thought I was decent. You know, you played all right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, um so yeah, there’s there’s more that comes with it, but um yeah, I I enjoyed my time there. It was such a good group of guys and then it was just like like a weirdness uh Twilight Zone once COVID hit and yeah especially that year you know cuz the next year kind of like you knew what was going on but that year was so crazy with like it all happening and no yeah we were like hunkered down in the core of Toronto. That’s weird. Um yeah, so insane. and you’ve got a ton of friends on that team, too. And we’ve heard you talk about um what an incredible talent you think Matthews is, even coming from playing with someone like Nate getting to Toronto. And I was curious what your thoughts are on he’s got I just feel like as we I love Austin Matthews and I’m, you know, huge fan and he’s Yeah. You’re a bit of a soupy, eh? Yeah. Yeah. Fair enough. Fair enough. And he’s just got so much pressure on him all the time. I feel like, you know, coming off Four Nations, he was taking some heat and then this year it’s like, oh, he lost MNER and he’s not having the best season and everybody’s just losing their [ __ ] And obviously, you’re boy, so I’m not asking you to analyze his game. I’m just curious what you think those added things he’s dealing with on a day-to-day basis playing for that team. Yeah, I think Austin’s kind of one of those uh one of those guys that he can roll with it. Um I think that’s an incredibly tough market to play in like we talked about a little bit. Um, and especially like for a guy like Mars or J2 who’s, you know, guys who are from there. Um, you know, Big Tony’s, you know, lives right down the road from where I am right now down in the desert and he’s, uh, he just goes about his business, you know, and and one thing I always say about him and, um, him and Connor and Nate, they’re it may not seem like it for Austin, but he’s literally doing everything he can to be as good as he can. Diet, off ice, training, like he’s, uh, he’s very dedicated. So, I think that he’s kind of the mindset like, you know, hey, I’m going to do everything in my power to to help this team get over the hump and win. And outside of that, you know, there’s not much he can do. So, I don’t I don’t imagine he’s uh he’s losing like a ton of sleep over the Twitter trolls and the talking heads, you know, it’s not really his style. So, he’s a perfect guy to play in that market. Yeah, for sure. That’s huge. Speaking of rolling with it, I you know, we’re talking about stuff going on in Colorado, that trade, time in Nashville. I feel like you’ve whether it be coaching changes, fits in teams, you’ve had a bunch of different times in your career where you’ve had to adjust and and you know reconfigure yourself to a new system and every step of the way from the outside looking in it seems like you’ve done it with so much poise and just calmness to your game. Is is that hard to do? Was that something that you had to learn throughout your career? Because everyone who’s played with you that we’ve talked to always say the same thing about your positive attitude with that stuff. How did you always be able to attain that? Yeah, I know. I think it’s some of it is just kind of like a a baseline personality thing. I’m fairly easygoing. Um I’m from the island and uh life moves a little slower out there, but yeah, there’s there’s lots of adjustments you have to make when you’re switching roles and you know, you run into a coach that loves you, it’s great. You run into a coach who doesn’t love your game, it’s not great. Um but you know one thing probably about my life is uh everything is kind of ends up being a joke good or bad you know so like I you know laugh or cry is the saying a little bit and I’m not much of a crier. Uh so yeah I always tried to have a positive attitude and then you know for me like whatever I was going through it it wasn’t wasn’t a teammate’s fault. if I had an issue, I’d go talk to the coach and sure, you know, I wasn’t afraid to go in and have a [ __ ] you with the coach and try to sort it out. But there was uh no part of my mentality that would like come in and mope around or take it out on other guys or anything like that. It was uh not really in my DNA. So try to make the most of every day. And at the end of the at the end of the day, you’re you’re playing in the NHL and they usually played me paid me pretty well. So it wasn’t the worst thing in the world. Yeah. You’re hanging at the brink with your boys having beers after. That’s right. They’re good. Yeah. Yeah. nothing a couple chilly ones can’t solve, you know. It’s fantastic. Amen. Well, I mean, listen, you’re just talking about being in the NHL and a topic we always love getting into is the international play and you know, you’d been on record saying that growing up you always kind of thought the NHL was unattainable and then here you go on, you have this amazing career, but then on top of that, you get 2011 Junior’s silver medal and then you get a gold at the Worlds in 2015 and then you get another CI silver medal in Paris. How cool was it to you and maybe even unexpected for you at times to eventually get to the NHL, excel in the NHL, and then all of a sudden you’re representing Canada and winning gold medals. Yeah. Very, very cool. Uh, you know, that that Buffalo Silver Medal I think you guys were referring to was probably one of the lowest points of my career when we lost the the great Canadian collapse or whatever I think they called it. Um, and then yeah, it’s a that that was a really really cool that 2015 one. Um, you know, I strung together a couple good years and then they asked me to to play and um, obviously Sid came and joined us and we had like a ridiculous team if you look at that roster. It was kind of crazy, man. Yeah. Borderline un unbeatable. So, um, that was a really that was a really cool experience for me to go and play with kind of all the best players in the world and um, and have success and just see what, you know, made some of these guys tick. And then also at those things you’re you’re having a lot more fun than you typically would at other events. So it was a a really really great experience to go and play high level hockey but then also do some high level uh shenanigans too. Of course. Yeah. Where was where was that 15 one T? That was that was in Yeah, that was in Prague. So yeah, Geneva and then Prague and um what a city. Yeah. Not not a couple bad places to be. Jesus Christ. Do you think that uh Four Nations was was a great table setter for for the Olympics coming up here this year? Like how big do you think that this can be for the game? Oh, it was awesome. Um yeah, I mean I was sitting in a bar tuning in and I I did not see that coming and the whole place was just electric like Yeah. Um so yeah, amazing for hockey, the game of hockey. I think that that got so many eyeballs outside of you know people who probably don’t watch all the time and then the only words now you’re into Olympic rules and I think people might be expecting just an absolute brawl but uh can’t really be on the table. So yeah but that was great for the game and um it’s such a great product too outside of all the the fights. So um I’m really really looking forward to this Olympics. I think it’s going to be so cool. you get to see, you know, the Four Nations was cool, but it didn’t really have a um a legacy or a history, you know, so that was kind of a one-off, whereas this is, you know, you look at all the greats in the game, this is where they kind of change resumes, dude. You know what I mean? Like start these are the things you tally up. Not to mention, it’s like how many we’re talking about Nate and Kale and stuff like all these elite guys, Connor included, Austin included, who have not played in an Olympics. Like that’s [ __ ] crazy. So, it’s going to be even extra. But amidst all of this uh Team Canada success that you’ve had, we heard that there was a little bit of a WWE incident in Paris. What can you tell us? I I knew you guys were going to try to bait me into their foot. Um yeah, that was uh yeah, that was, you know, like I said, there was some high level hockey, some high level partying going on. I maybe got a over ahead of my skis there one night and thought I was the toughest guy in the room and um turns out I wasn’t. So I ended up uh ended up in the emergency room sewing my quad back together and um I won’t uh I won’t go too deep into it, but it was an insane evening. 60 stitches, right? 60. Is that right? Yeah. Holy [ __ ] 60 stitches. And um but you know I think I was like maybe even I might have even been leading the tourney in points or I had like 10 points in three games and then I was I thought I was going to the hospital for a couple quick zips and I’d be good and then you know it was like a six to eight week eight week recovery and bud. Yeah. Yeah. I was like, “Oh, you’re on the shelf for a bit.” And and honestly, everyone was great. Like Joe Sackic was the I think the GM of that team. And um that was a call I was kind of afraid to make like, “Hey, uh I [ __ ] I’m in one.” And uh his I just remember his wife Debbie in the background on the phone. He’s like, “Don’t worry about it, Ty. Joe did the same thing back in his day.” Like I was like, “Okay, cool.” And I was like, “Hey, uh I actually have like a big trip planned with a bunch of the guys after. Like can I still go?” And Joe’s like, “Yeah, absolutely.” So, I was like wheeling around in a wheelchair all over Europe. So funny. What a beauty. That’s amazing. Yeah, it was great. Everyone handled it well. Coupe was great. Um, yeah, it was uh they must have busted your ass, dude. Like once you were okay, they must have been giving you such a hard time. Yeah, I think there was like a they tiptoed around me a little bit like because, you know, some of the guys didn’t know me very well and then I was I ended up reading starting lineups in four games. Yeah, I was just crutching around, you know, doing what I could. Listen, that’s another good one for the resume. Leading the team in points, leading the team in stitches at the tournament. That’s [ __ ] fantastic. That’s what I was hoping for. Yeah, that’s what that’s what you dream about as a kid when you’re imagining these tournaments. Yeah. MVP for sure. Okay. What maybe and maybe you tell us after, but what was the move? Like I don’t need to know what happened specifically. I just want to know what what what stone cold stunner were we attempting that led us to this moment. I don’t know. I don’t know. It was a it was a unique offering for sure. Tell me after. Tell me, tell me, uh, well, okay. Well, another story I have to bait you into because we have a different audience and I know that there are listeners of ours that would love to hear the story cuz I was in [ __ ] tears. But your your second to last year with the PRS and uh you guys get the boys famously have the [ __ ] YouTube concert cancellation and go on a hot streak, make playoffs, you get Vancouver in the first round. Please, and I know you just told the sun checklist, but for the fans that haven’t heard it, please tell the the Pred’s playoff story because it’s so good. Yeah. Yeah. So, I guess uh this one is like kind of, you know, it’s not my proudest moment as I don’t think you ever, you know, you want to respect the game and uh kind of the integrity of the NHL. So, um but given the circumstances, I had like, you know, I think I played maybe 40 something games that year, mostly in the first half of the year. I was just kind of uh riding the season out in the presser. I talked to uh we called him Brunello Andrew Brunette. Um we had we went and had a beer. Uh and he was like, “Hey, Tai,” he’s like, “I really like you. Guys love you. Like I just, you know, again, kind of one of those things. They had Roman Yosi who was playing great and I wasn’t going to take his spot.” So it’s kind of a where do you fit in? So I was in the presser for most of the last half of the year. Um definitely the last bunch of games and then going to playoffs. Uh not playing not playing. um goes game four, game five, we go back to Vancouver. Um you know, I’m not even in the I’m not even taking warm-up. Like I’m just not playing, right? So, and I’m in Van. I’m from Vick. Like all my buddies are there. I have a couple night before at nice dinner, nothing crazy, like whatever. And then the next day I go and meet some friends on a patio after I get bag skated in the morning. I have Yeah. Which is so brutal. Yeah. I go down to I go down to Provence and Yeltown. It’s like a nice kind of spring day rolling in. I have a, you know, I have a nice, I’m keeping it light. I have a nice tartar. Uh, glass of Chardonnay. I grab a chili wine. Like, you know, kind of got lucky to be honest because, um, the the buddy I was with usually pushes the pace pretty good, but I think he was a little hung over from the night before. So, get that could have gone much worse, dude. Good. Yeah, but I mean I would never show up in one to a game. So, but you know, I’d had a couple and then I went back to the hotel and um actually went down for a sauna and little nap and yeah, just you know, kind of just whatever 6:30 uh you know, scratch bus. I I jump on that still no text, no call. It’s like Yeah. You know, I get to I think it’s 620 bus. I get there and get 6:30. I walk in and the team service guy is like, “Ty and I’m like I could He’s like, “Come with me.” And I’m like I’m like oh no. I’m like walks. I’m like no. He’s like oh yeah. I walk in, Chenner’s just got his head in a bucket. He’s just selling Buicks in there. And I’m like, “Chenner, are you He’s like, “Ty, I don’t know what happened. Like, I think I got food poison.” I’m like, “Okay.” So, all the guys. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. So, all the guys are in half gear like getting their helmets on. They’re going out. I texted my wife. I was like, “Hey, I’m playing.” And that was the only time I had Texas like a to send. And then I just literally took off my suit. No warm-up, no foam roll, no nothing. I put my gear on and I make it like, you know, 10 seconds countdown and then I go up to O’Reilly factors. My boy, he’s just like, he’s like, “Hey.” He’s like, “You might be the only guy that could pull this one off.” Because he’s the only one that knew too that I was out or whatever. Yeah. And then I went out there and made it through warm-up. Shenner tried to do warm-up. He he got on for like, you know, 20 seconds. Had Okay. So, there was still a chance that you made they were like, “Just go do but maybe you’re not playing stuff.” Yeah. Yeah. But I was like Shenner’s my boy. I was talking. He was like Ty. He’s like, “Ah, I think I’m” And then he went out there, you know, he did like two laps and had to go [ __ ] himself. So, I was like, “Okay, I’m going.” Uh, and then yeah, I just remember sitting on the bench and like, you know, towels are out, 20,000 towels. I think I was sitting next to Yoast. I was just like kind of having an existential crisis. I’m like, “Yo, am I really sitting here right now? Is this a dream?” He’s like, “You’re here, buddy. You were doing it.” Oh my god. I had a ship and I actually played pretty well. Like if any of you went and checked the tape, like non-distinguishable. I was snapping it. So you I I was gonna say you had won a hell of a game if we’re being honest. That might be my my apple was a little cheesy. I think it was just a drop to Yosu end to end, but still, you know, take them, dude. Yeah, don’t ask. And then that was an elimination game, right? Is that wrong? I can’t. Yeah, right. Game five elimination game. It was my last playoff game of my career. Uh unfortunately, such an epic story, though. I mean, it’s such a good one to have. It’s [ __ ] incredible. Like one you’ll never forget. Eh, like come on. And honestly, I’ve played like I’ve played and been hung over and um have had anxiety leading up to the game and stuff like this one. Like I didn’t even there wasn’t even time to have anxiety. Like I didn’t have time for thought between like trying to tape a stick and get my skates on and like my fear was all wet from the morning skate. I was like what is going I think they had it packed up like you know we were flying out. So it’s just brutal. Yeah. And hey and you didn’t tell your boy, right? Like didn’t the guy you were having lunch with didn’t know? So like, oh yeah, exactly. So he was going to the game with a bunch of friends and then like he sits, you know, he sits down or whatever and he’s looking, he’s like, “Is that Ty? What is he doing out there?” He couldn’t believe it. Um, yeah, that was uh that was funny. He’s like he’s like waving a glass of Chardonnay at you through the glass. Yeah. God. I mean, like it’s it’s just such a good story, but add to the fact that you’re playing in the hometown makes it an even better send off for the playoffs, you know? Yeah. And I almost I almost played my way back into the lineup like uh her year end meeting. Vanilla was like, “Hey, we were we had to debate art if we were going to put you back in there or whatever.” I was like, “Oh yeah, game six.” Like, “What if it ain’t broke?” You know, you get those wins and you’re like, “Let’s keep going.” Yeah, we at least that was a thought. I I don’t think I was a thought for months. So, I was like, “At least I put a seed of doubt in there.” We will take that, dude. We will take that. Yeah, that was crazy serious. Incredible. Uh man, another great story for a number of reasons, but uh a couple years ago uh you get married to your lovely wife Emma uh on the island, which I heard was an amazing time, but uh heard there were also a couple of unexpected guests at the wedding. Oh yeah, the crashers. You had a real life wedding crasher situation at your wedding. What the hell happened there? By the way, I’ll add too cuz like who was it? Sam Bennett maybe. Yeah, it must have been Benny Benny got married this summer and like none of the boys were there because he was like I’m it’s really small. It’s our families, you know. I think maybe Kachchuck was there and that’s it. Your wedding very opposite. Yes. All the fellas are there and and you have actual crashes. So take go ahead. Yeah. I mean that was such a fun weekend. It was very cool to be able to show off uh the island in that way. But um yeah, I I got it all secondhand because nobody really bothers the bride or groom with that kind of stuff right on the day. But um the way if you’re crashing. Yeah. The way I was uh kind of explained to me is, you know, everyone was starting to get loose and the dance floor was going and um the the kids were, you know, call them teenagers were kind of walking around. Oh, they were that young? Wow. Uh I don’t know, maybe maybe 19, 20ish, you know, young 20s, I don’t know. Um they were kind of walking around and they were grabbing some pictures with guys and everyone just thought they were like family of mine or whatever. And then um Davo I think Davo was like to Bane who was my agent and he was the MC of our wedding who’s a ridiculous human. Um he goes hey Banner he’s like these guys are kind of like weirding me out I think or whatever. He’s like I don’t know maybe they’re family. And then Bane’s like oh I’ll go talk to him. He’s like hey guys like how you doing? I’m Bane. And they’re like or I don’t know if you like hey how are you guys? How do you know Tyson or whatever? And they’re like oh uh we’re his agent’s cousins and Bane is my agent. Banner’s like, “Oh, brutal guy to say that to.” Yeah, exactly. So, Banner’s like, “Oh, well, nice to meet you. I am Tyson’s agent, Bane.” And they’re like, “Uh.” And so, um, yeah. Yeah. He’s like, “Hey guys, like we can handle this like, you know, the right way and we can get or whatever.” And, um, he escorted them out uh and they kind of left quietly or whatever. And then they sent like they sent like a big email um kind of saying sorry and all this stuff. But yeah, they did. Uh, but again, I don’t have all the story. It’d be better. You should have Bane on here one time. That’d be Yeah, seriously. But, uh, yeah, it was just funny though because they probably like if they would have just played it cool, they could have got away with the whole evening, I think. You know, dude, and I’ll I’ll add their backstory was actually genius. Like, they got extremely unlucky that that’s who spoke to them. But otherwise, I would have been like, “Oh, yeah, okay.” That is a degree of separation enough where I wouldn’t question it. I’d be like, “No, you couldn’t.” You’d be like, “Oh, yeah. He’s tight with Bane.” like I’m tight with he just they kind of got a bad balance but I guess they were being a little like they had the cameras out a little like he just said like hey guys like nobody film nobody do anything and they were the only Conor McDavid yeah exactly so um yeah they probably could have had a great night and we could have ended up being homies but they they just kind of blew it you know got a little humbled yeah it happens you know good try is it like um I mean how tightknit community is it like do you know everybody there like how how are they able to email you after? How do they How do they get I don’t know. I mean, the island’s not big, so you’re usually one degree, you know, it’s big enough, but you’re not you’re one degree of separation. And um and they emailed they emailed Bane, so uh but yeah, it was interesting. But what a great what a great weekend. Yeah, exactly. Hey, what any highlights you can share? I know some of that was crazy, but like any awesome memories from that rip with everybody? Oh, man. Yeah, that that uh we played a round of golf at the Victoria Golf Club where I’m a member and um pretty like could be a little stuffy and hard to get out to and they just um they treated us really well. We had everybody out. We were just being complete donkeys and um no one left. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Well, the group the group was it was Nate, Sid, Davo, and Mars was the group. So, yeah, that was a that was a good crew and um everybody just had a blast and uh the kind of debrief post round on the patio. everyone was just so in one and the wedding just yeah morale was really high and it was cool for me to kind of have that in my backyard and have everyone kind of um come see the island was just awesome and then there was the one night at the the local that was just bananas I don’t know guys I just remember the night before yeah and uh Smitty and Barnes and Enzo and Nate and everyone had their tarps off bartending they’re like crawling up the walls at this place and I know the owner I just remember looking at the owner and he’s like just let it rip like all All right. Like, enjoy it, buddy. And dude, hometown is epic. And having the different circles of your life all I mean, obviously a lot of they’re NHL guys, but like just different pockets, different areas of your life all interacting is so cool. Yeah, it was, you know, so many good guys I’ve got a chance to play with, but they don’t all know each other, interact, and stuff. So, to to get them, you know, kind of all in the room and spend spend a couple days together. Um, you know, now it’s fun. Like, anytime I’m referencing one guy or another guy, they’re like, “Oh, yeah. like that guy’s the best. Like so it’s uh it’s cool. Yeah, that’s epic. The world’s colliding moment is just as good as it gets. Exactly. It’s so good. Well, I want to now go to Chili Ones, dude, because we’re talking having some great nights and Chili Ones is the coolest thing ever. We are massive. Oh, there we go, dude. We got the merch. Wow. Special. There it is. Uninformed. Uh you start your own a beer. 3% ABV. Very crushable. Um 80 cows, which is amazing. Amazing. Uh 10% of profits go to the power to give charity. You’ve got a non-alcoholic version now. You’ve got tons of NHL guys investing. So I just want to know uh how did this start? How’s it going? Tell everyone buy them the whole the whole rundown. Yeah. So um I mean the chili one is like a cold one. We just always called them chili ones when I was playing. It was kind of a guys would just be yelling at each. It just got kind of took on a life of its own and obviously a bit stupid but funny. Um so I think perfect. I was hammered one night. obviously and I just put it in my notes like be starting to do a beer called Chili Ones with my buddies and um actually that wedding weekend we got the first uh we had a growler of of chili ones on the golf course that day me and Smitty Mike Smith and we tried it and he’s like [ __ ] this is good. I was like yeah what an incredible opening ceremony that’s awesome God. Um but yeah it was just kind of like very serendipitous. I had it in my notes from probably two years and then um a guy in the beverage space reached out kind of quite randomly uh was like, “Hey, would you or any of your hockey buddies want like a whiskey or a wine or whatever?” And I was like, “Oh, dude, I want to do a beer.” Like, “Tell me about it. It’s called Chili Ones. It’s like just the most drinkable beer on the planet.” I was kind of referring to it as like, you know, the night before the game beer. Yeah. You know, all day golf course, you know, where you have to like you still want to be social and and do the thing, but you don’t want to be hung over, you know, kind of dragging around. So, uh that was the idea, I think. And and we found a really good uh liquid. And um yeah, just kind of took on a life of its own. I I called like five of my, you know, best hockey buddies right away and I was like, “Guys, am I nuts?” They’re like, “Should I start a beer?” And they’re like, “Absolutely.” Yeah. So, yeah. Um it kind of snowballed from there and I think there’s uh 18 kind of current former NHL guys in it now. Uh a couple musicians and good friends and um it’s just been like a really kind of fun thing to be able to dive head first into after hockey. Um and we’re widely available now in Alberta. Um going to be more so available in BC or hopefully soon. But um and then we’ve got plans to to move down to Denver uh kind of spring summer. Um, but yeah, it’s uh it’s it’s definitely uh Alberta is where you’ll find it in co-ops and I think superstores and Boston Pizza and um a bunch of different chains. So, look for you know, probably in the new year it’ll be pretty widely available. I can’t wait to get them down here. We love them. What was the Yeah, there’s I mean I’m I hand up other than Guinness. I’m not really the biggest beer guy because I want them to be more crushable. And then someone had a pack of them at our beer league game and I was like it’s it is without a doubt the best postbeer league beer I’ve ever had. It is. And it’s not I can’t advertise it, but it won’t get you a Dewey on the way home. You know, you can have one. You can have two. It’s It’s less. It’s just uh you know, and it’s obviously light, low carbs, like Yeah. Little better for you. you get that kind of camaraderie and the social aspect without um having to send it too far. So, yeah, it’s a it’s a cool product. What was the process of like going through the taste testing like because I I imagine that was an important part for you of like making sure it tastes good while also being light and all that. Did you go to different places? Yeah, and we got lucky. We uh the Gary, the guy who we did the original brew with, he’s like a the Canada’s most decorated brew master. He like goes to the world championship. They got a bunch of gold medals. He’s a huge soccer fan and he always goes to Europe and and in Germany particularly they have a it’s a German flight and it’s a table beer so it’s a little bit less. It’s 3%. So he came back and um around the same time just brewed a 3% flight beer because he loved it. And so when I met him we were talking about it and he was like I think I have like I might have the beer for you. And I was template. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So he went and tried it and I was like dude this is unreal. And that was kind of simple. And now so the original recipe is um you know we got on pretty early cuz it was just kind of a no-brainer. And then uh the the the tough part is when you start co-acking at different facilities is getting that um you know to the consistency of each each brew. Um but we’re we’ve got it down. You know there’s different water hardness in every city and all this stuff that goes into it. So, it’s uh but we’ve got it down pretty good now and um we’re pretty happy with, you know, kind of the consist consistency that’s coming out of all the breweries. [ __ ] right. That’s perfect, dude. We brewed beers in our garage for five years. We called it the fiveyear plan B brewing crow. We brewed one beer per summer for five years and then shut her down. But it was it was [ __ ] awesome. Great run. That’s electric. Yeah. Hell yeah. It was amazing. Well, dude, I mean, it’s like it’s just so cool. I mean, I love seeing when you when you know guys like you finish up and then get something like this. That’s so cool that keeps bringing all the boys together. It’s so awesome. So, I mean, listen, we we we’ll make it the official beer of the pod. I love it. You get down here to LA. Let’s make something happen. Hell yeah. We’ll be uh we’ll be in the States here pretty quickly. We’ll have beer available so we can get out a couple uh pallets to you or whatever. But, um yeah, be great. We uh we’re always looking for nice collabs. We’ll talk biz. We’ll do some We’ll do some stuff. I love it. Have you uh have you added it? Um have you added a chili ones draft to your little speak easy or is it just Guinness still? No, Guinness is downstairs. It’s a little moodier down there. You know, I kind of I like it when it’s uh you know, on the island it gets a little snotty sometimes. So when the rain you go down, you think if you uh but I have chilly ones on draft uh in the backyard for you know those nice summer days. And dude, that’s actually perfect. That’s actually genius. Yeah. Yeah. That’s where I That’s where I want the gift. I love that thing you said about um about the speak easy of wandering in there after dinner and somehow you wait you come back out in the morning. Oh yeah. It’s It’s uh it’s quite a unique little spot down there. We call it the submersible once you enter, dude. It’ll it spits you out at like 4:00 a.m. and you’re like, “What just happened?” But it’s uh it’s a great spot to kind of yell at each other and play games. And Dewy’s Dewy’s basement’s got Jennis on tap, too. And we same thing happens. I like one day every time. Yeah, it’s the best. What what a beer Guinness is. Gives you, you know, us as a kind of the startup, you know, it kind of it’s like that’s a, you know, it’s like a Gretzky beer. So, we got something to work toward, you know. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Important to have a goal. Yeah. Exactly. Uh well, Ty, we we finish off every episode with a game we call past score. So, that’s we’re what we’re going to hit you with now. Basically, it’s just a ranking system. And we’re going to give you a few different categories and three things in the category that we know are special to you. You got to rank them. Pass, shoot, score. Passing is great. Like snapping around, shooting, getting pucks on net is better. Scoring is the ultimate goal. So, it’s basically going to be a 321 system. Okay. Your first one’s going to be food. So, your parachute score is going to be the chicken parm from Cafe Martinano in uh Fort Lauderdale. Yeah. your chickpea pasta and a turkey bolognesece game day meal or mom’s chicken teriyak with potatoes and broccoli. Okay. Um, unfortunately I didn’t I did I switched up from the chickpea pasta and went back to regular pasta. So I had a feeling [ __ ] [ __ ] Nate, dude. Get the chickpea [ __ ] out of here. Oh yeah, he was always he was yelling at Zidorov, not me. Z was just spooning Alfredo. Um yeah, I would go so pass would probably be the chicken parm. The shootute would be my mom’s um teriyaki mashed potatoes. Just, you know, a lot of nostalgia there. And then uh the score is like anytime I can make my pregame chicken past the like cacio kind of olive oil at their little farm. Yeah, it’s it’s electric. That is beautiful. Uh, so I was going to ask, what are you you cooking these days, but it sounds like you’ve just switched out the chickpea for normal pasta? Are you is like Italian the the the ultimate for you? Yeah, probably. I think, you know, Italian sneaky ticks a lot of boxes. You can go pizza, you can go chicken parm, you can like a nice pistacho steaks. Um, but I love sushi, too. Uh, doing that doing that gig with the Canucks. Now I’m back over and back in van all the time and I’m just pretty much living off Hackrim Lobby Bar Sushi. Yeah. Tartar. Tartar. Yeah. Don’t Don’t hate it. Don’t hate it. No. I love it. That’s so good. Okay, your next category is outdoor activities. Okay. Passoot score. A day of golfing with the boys, taking the boat out, maybe dropping a line. Yeah. Or driving the pickle to a remote beach. Probably go pass is the the golf with the lads. Um that’s a great day. But um you know, you can kind of get that everywhere. Yeah, do that everywhere. Yeah, I would say you could almost combine um the pickle and the boat because you could take Yeah, you sure could. the Volkswagen over to the fairies and go find some absurd island or whatever. Um it’s a smart man right there. These are loopholes. Maybe past though would be the the uh we have a boat that we like to get out with friends and um go find some of those uh kind of unexplored desolate islands and just bring the speaker and unload the cooler and that’s a great time. Uh but yeah, I think getting away uh in the in the Volkswagen on like a little weekenders pickles all time. Yeah, you kind of just pickles all time. Yeah. Kind of just wipes all the worries and then um you know, you don’t really you’re not really expected to respond to anybody when you’re in the pickle thing. kind of just live live your life, you know. There you go. Are you a catch and release guy or are you bringing them home to cook? I am actually not a big fisherman. I don’t really like killing things. Um, but we do. Good man. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I still eat fish though, so it’s kind of a kind of pathetic. Let someone else kill it for me. Yeah. Like, is that better? Um, no. We do drop a lot of crab traps, though. So, that is kind of that is really fun when you you know, you go out, drop the traps, go have your day, and pick them up on the way home. And then, um, I actually did that, dude. I actually did that with Luke Shen this summer. He came out with his family and stayed at our place and uh the kids were loving it and we made like you know crab pasta and we had like wagu in the pizza oven and he was like oh this is unbelievable. He’s a big eater. So that was a cool day for him to from Saski you know he doesn’t he doesn’t get out on the he doesn’t get out on the ocean much. Yeah, dude. When we were little, like young young, our dad uh was working for a food company and he that and he kind of worked in the pickle department and he literally had a pickle van. Like a yours is called the pickle and his green, but it was he drove a pickle around. Yeah. Dude, Ty, it was shaped like a pickle. Like it was like Dumb and Dumber the muts van. Like it was a pickle. Is it Is it like uh is it for sale? Is it We’ll find you a picture. Yeah, we’ll send you a picture of it. I don’t know. I we got to find out where that pickle because I have a I have a good friend who’s starting a pickle business out on the island. So, you know, they’re always looking for wheels. You never know, dude. I like I like I like a nice collab. That makes sense. Yeah, same. Hey, where would uh where would snowboarding have ranked if that was on there now that now that you’re retired, you’re allowed to do that again? Uh right near the top. I Oh, okay. Yeah, I grew up, you know, skateboarding, snowboarding. Um, so to be able to do that again, right at the end of last year, I I writing was on the wall. I was like 90% sure I was hanging him up. So I went one of my good friends is Mark McMorris who’s a snowboarder and he’s got a a place up in Whistler. So I went met him up there and I had like the best two days. It was so fun. It was magic. You’re just up there. It’s like it’s incredible, dude. Couple couple apperalls halfway down the hill and you’re just It’s just so nice. We get a text about the cooler thing. I know. Yeah, dude. We do a bunch of trips. So once the groin’s feeling good, we’re we’re going to have to catch you on the mountain with us this year. It’s unreal. Where do you guys go? Everywhere. I think we’re actually hitting Whistler this year, but we do Utah. We do two weeks in Utah. We do a week in Colorado. We went to New Mexico last year. It’s like the all up and down the West Coast. Very cool. Yeah. If you guys are in Whistler, hit me up. Yeah. We got We got to dial that in. Okay. Your next one is bands. Yep. Yep. So, we’re doing pass score pearl jam lubveners 10f. Oh, dude, you guys are nuts. Um, I’ll go I’ll go uh I’ll go Pearl Jam Pass. Uh, I was Yeah. Yeah. Huge huge Pearl Jam fan. Um, one of uh kind of a iconic obviously uh band. Um, spent a lot of years going to a lot of shows. Yeah. Uh, Tenfe, I will go uh what is it? Shoot is next. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And they’re one of my five favorite bands of all time. Wow. Sick. And I got a chance to be involved in and be a part of that. So, that’s really cool. But then, um, I’ll go score with the Lumies just because, you know, Wes is one of my best buddies and I was with them. I was with them last night. So, it’ be kind of a sick. A little [ __ ] up. Yeah. And also they’re [ __ ] amazing and kind of selling out stadiums and uh you know they’re doing their thing. So they’re ripping. Um did you uh have you met Eddie yet? I haven’t. That would be uh we got to make that happen, dude. Chel We can make Chel make that happen in two seconds. Good call. Good call. Come on. Perfect. That’d be cool. Done. Twist my [ __ ] arm. Get you a signed axe and then we’re then they’ll move up the rent. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I got a I got a Tony Hawk signed skateboard in my garage and I got like a Pearl Jam skateboard. I’ve wanted to get signed for a long time. So, if that ever happened, it’d be very cool. I heard Eddie is like just the greatest dude and um would love to rip love to rip a sig and have a couple chili ones with him. That’d be great. Yeah. All time day ripping darts. Sig pickle. Hey, you’re tight with bees though, too, eh? Yeah, tight. Tight’s loose. I mean, um, he’s such a nice guy and I spent a bit of time with him when I was in Toronto and yeah, um, you know, we keep in touch here and there, but, um, yeah, he’s dropping heat, too, a couple new albums and, uh, just a really, really sweet human and had us over to his house a few times and so sick. Just a good man. I’m always rooting for Beads and, uh, nice to see him crushing it. Yeah, and did you meet Wes? Do I have it right? You met Wes through Trevor Gretzky. Gretzky Boys are buddies with us, too. Is that is that how you met? Yeah. Yeah. a long time ago they uh they were playing a show in Edmonton and um Trevor and I think I don’t know if Wayne was there or not but they they took the band down on the ice and practice rank there um Trevor’s like talking with Wes like where you from he’s like oh Denver he’s like oh one of my best buddies live there you got to like so he just linked us in a group chat and then uh you know we kind of took it from there and I got to go watch him open for Tom Petty in Vancouver so jeez what a [ __ ] show yeah and then he got off stage like west open for him and came off stage and then just came and sat with us like eight rows back and you know we drank wine and just kind of had a a nice night and five minutes from me in Denver. So perfect. So sick. Amazing. Okay, here’s your last one and this is a throwback but I just got so fired up when I found this little tidbit. This was like um God you were in Toron you’re playing to for Toronto and I don’t know what it was for but you were doing like a diary you know you’re like here’s my this is what I do daytoday you know like okay I don’t even know what this could be. Yep. Yeah. No, no, it’s it’s good. Don’t worry. And you’re uh it said game day, you wake up, you go in, you skip the pregame skate, do the power play meeting, cut your stick, tape it up, go home, and then right before your nap, you would crush an Arrested Development episode. And I was like, [ __ ] yes, dude. That’s my favorite show ever. And I was dying. So, you were going to pass you score three Arrested Development characters for me. Okay. Job Bluth, Tobias Funk, or Lucille Bluth? Okay, I’ll pass Lucille. No, Ty. Japan loves Lucille. God, Lucille is so funny. She’s a She’s alcoholic. She’s She’s electric, too. Uh she needed some chili ones. I’ll tell you that much. She would have been much better. I’ll shoot uh Tobias Jun and then uh I’ll go with uh what do we score on Joe? I just think that’s such an iconic character. He’s such a ridiculous human. Um, and I’ve heard I’ve heard Will Arnett’s a great guy, too. So, no brainer. Oh, dude. Is that was that one of your favorite shows or you were just in a kick during that during that time in your life? Yeah. I mean, you could throw it in there top 10 with a bunch of others that kind of, you know, once you go through the the series, you know, you kind of do a couple years and come back to it, but always uh kind of a no-brainer. If you’re looking for something to, you know, help fall asleep or whatever, throw it on. Dude, those first three seasons, the rewatch will have me in tears anytime. Oh my gosh, so ridiculous. So good, dude. It’s just so perfect. It’s unreal. I love that. That made me so happy when you were He was like, “Yeah, I watched the rest of Element.” And I think at the time, I’ll have to go find the article again, but it was like right around when season 4 they were doing the season 4 [ __ ] and and T was like he was like, “I don’t love it.” I was like, “Me neither, dude. Guy’s got good taste.” Yeah. Yeah. I like to think so. All right. Well, Ty, this has been an absolute blast, man. We can’t thank you enough for popping on. Before we we cut you loose, is there anything else you want to shout out? Anything you want to plug? No, I think that was great, man. It’s uh What do we got? chat hockey and friends and music and chilly ones. You kind of covered it all. So, nothing else you need in life to be perfect. No, not particularly. That was that was great. And sorry, it took me a little while to log on there, but Oh, dude. I’m not sure what kind of platform you guys are using here, but don’t don’t even get us started, D. It’s a Loheed Martin product. It’s really You guys have got the nuke code. All right. Well, I appreciate it, boys. And we’ll get some chili ones down to you uh in LA then. Absolutely. And we’ll go and you know what? We’ll start with some uh swags. You can rock the hats on. We’ll do We’ll do a nice merch swap. It’ll be perfect. Love it. Love it. T Bear. T Bear. Ty, man. TB. Unbelievable dude. He had more. I was trying to remember more off the cuff, but he has so many nicknames. He’s the nickname king. He dishes them out. I got to get him to give us one. Maybe I should get We should get honorary Tea Bear nicknames from So, I’ll hit him up for that. I’m gonna be going skiing with him at Whistler. I’m gonna be hanging with him every chance I get now because his stories. Like, dude, he’s an absolute riot. Normally, dude, rarely in interviews am I just like, just tell me stories, bro. That that was just such a blast. He’s such a riot. What a good guy. Unbelievable. Massive thank you for coming on. Hope you guys enjoyed that. I’m sure you did because it was fantastic. Utterly fantastic. Let’s take this one into a beer league hotline. Buffer, what do we got? This is a sad one. Oh god. Uh, recently we had a teammate, let’s call him Greg, pass away at 25. Obviously a tragedy. While we’re all reacting to the news in our group chat, our GM chimes in that Greg never paid him for the past winter season. No condolences, just straight into lone shark mode. We’ve been struggling to get a solid 10 skaters out regularly, and I was already on the fence about continuing with this team. And this might be the final straw. Wanted your thoughts because bailing on the guys is never easy. Dude, you might not like what I have to say here, bro. That is That might be what you need in a GM. I’m not saying I want to be him. I’m not saying he’s a good guy. I’m just saying that might be what you need in a GM. Front office jobs aren’t for everybody. They’re not for everybody, dude. They’re hard. They’re hard and they are stressful. And and by the way, and by the way, a an NHL GM is spending billionaire owners money. A beer league GM is putting five figures on his credit card, okay? And then going, “Boys, you got to pay me back because because the credit card bill got swiped, dude.” And here’s the thing, man. Greg. Greg, this is awful. I’m so sorry that Greg has passed, but if we don’t get that money, you are all paying more. Greg, he the GM’s looking out for you. The GM’s doing what no one else will do. Does that No one wants to be the bad guy. He’s a good guy. I’m not saying he’s a good guy. And he probably could have rewarded that text. He probably could have said tease and peace to Greg’s. Hey, thoughts and prayers. But also, we do need to chase down his payment. And and uh is is the GM calling Greg’s wife, girlfriend, and going, “I’m so sorry for your loss. I unfortunately Greg does owe me.” What is your venue? Greg does owe me $600. You taken over his It does say no condolences. So, he’s calling the wife and saying, “Where’s the money?” Well, I’m saying I I hope to God that when he does call the wife, he adds in those condolences cuz that’s not going to fly. Does if he just goes like this. Hey, Greg does owe me $600. Just saying I think the boys should have should start a GoFundMe for Greg’s family because something horrible’s happened and be like, “Hey, you know, this money is going to go it was horrible no matter what, right?” Yeah. They’re going to go, “Hey, this money is going to go to the funeral and and whatever.” And why did I respond that way? I don’t know. That was crazy. 25-year-old died. That was insane. I like I implied that maybe something terrible didn’t happen. Like he’s a murderer. He’s probably good that he’s dead. I’m like Dan thinks he faked his own death to avoid paying. He’s this is clearly clearly tax evasion. Like this guy owes so many people money. They start a GoFundMe for the family and then they go, would it be okay if 600 of this, you know, you get miles, you throw us some miles, everybody’s everybody’s happy, everyone’s taken care of. That’s I can’t believe this. Like this is so bad, Greg. But do you just eat this? Do you have to just eat this as a team? Yeah. What are the options? GoFundMe. You go GoFundMe and we we’re taking 600 and you just go we’re going to take 600 out of that. He didn’t pay us. But what he didn’t pay us. But are you allowed to just start a GoFundMe when anyone dies? Uh I think under age 30. I don’t. But you go boom, goofund him. And we’re gonna take You’re seeing dollar signs. Yeah. Boom. And we’re gonna wet the beak, dude. 31year-old dies. Nightmare. Yeah. It’s brutal. You go get nothing under 30. Boom. I This is awful. I think you have to I I I think you have to eat the money. I think this GM’s bedside manner is atrocious, but I commend him for doing his job. Last point, I think the rink should eat it. Yes, the ring should go. Your team gets to pay $600 le or whatever. I’m the GM. I go here’s what our here’s our roster. Here’s our price per player. And this guy’s dead. He He did die. So So he obviously isn’t paying. We’re not paying that. And that if you think that that rink manager isn’t going like this, that’s awful. You still owe that money. It’s because it’s a bad precedent. Honestly, he’s like, “Oh, people just got to drop a dead. No one owes me any money, dude. Being rank manager is not an easy job either, Dan.” Okay, before we go straight to hell, let’s go into a Bower blind ranking. It’s Thanksgiving week, so we’re obviously blind ranking Thanksgiving sides. Sean, you don’t know [ __ ] about this holiday. No, he loves it. He loves it. And I’m excited about this one because Bower Hockey brings us these blind rankings. They bring us the pulse, which is the greatest stick on earth. It is. And they bring us all my gear, which is my favorite gear on earth. And then today they’re going to have put they’re going to put their finger on the pulse of these Thanksgiving sides foods on earth. Unbelievable. Which are Thanksgiving. So thank you to our friends at Bower for an incredible blind ranking. Sean, we’re giving your favorite American holiday to Bower. No, Christmas. Christmas. Christmas American holiday. Yeah. My favorite American holiday is probably Fourth of July. Thanksgiving’s a That’s very patriotic of you. Yeah. I’m I’m a patriot. Hell yeah. He sure is. We are all patriots. We are all patriots. That’s awesome. John, thanksgiving sides. All right, going to keep it Irish. Kicking it off with mashed potatoes. Great one. Great one to start, Sean. Unbelievable. And I put a little um I put some chives in it. I cook it with some chives. Just thinks it adds a little color. Little color to the dish. You got to do it. Yep. Are you a creamy or a chunky mashed potato? Creamy. I’d like to spread it across a bagel. I I I’m I’ve grown fonder of chunky mashed potatoes. Yeah. Really? Yeah, I think I I think I I want like really fluffy creamy milk. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. If it floats away, if I have to catch it and eat it, that’s perfect, guys. I think this is one. Oh my god. Off the bat. No. That’s [ __ ] insane. D. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Is it insane? Yes. No, it’s insane. It’s not. What’s better than that? Several things. I can’t say them yet because it’ll it’ll paint mashed potatoes. What about I appreciate you celebrating my culture. Yeah. Mashed potatoes on. And you know what? You know what? You know what? I’m a little [ __ ] boy fit boy and I don’t I try not to eat certain things all year round. And like I I will say unfortunately mashed potatoes are sacrificed for me. I don’t eat mashed potatoes all the time. And at Thanksgiving, getting a side of mashed potatoes, putting a dollop of creme fresh or whipped or h sour cream on there, it’s just so good. Yeah, I’ll give you two. I was going to say three, but I’ll go as high as I don’t even know what I I think I have one thing that I specifically with Thanksgiving sizes that I could put one over here, but I will go two. Mashed potatoes, two. All right, we’re settled on two. All right. glazed carrots. Okay, I think if you even dare to say any number other than five, I will fire you into the sun like a b with a bazooka. Five. Five. Five. Dude, I like carrots. Why is everyone hating carrots? No, no. I like and I I in fact I liked glazed carrots. But we’re talking about Thanksgiving sides, the opportunity to be as gluttonous and enjoy delectable sides and foods. And we’re going to put glazed carrots higher than five. No way. I love carrots. I like carrots, too. There’s some It got some strong opinions about some other things on this list, but Okay. Okay. All right. Uh this might be a challenging for your mashed potatoes, though. Uh we got macaroni and cheese. I saw someone the other day who was implying that mac and cheese is not a Thanksgiving. They were like mac and cheese like that’s, you know, that’s craziness. And I was like, “What? It’s fantastic.” Well, this one’s interesting for me because I love mac and cheese in general. And I think it is uh completely acceptable, more than acceptable as a Thanksgiving side, but some things are very Thanksgiving to me. Yeah, this isn’t the most traditional one. This is like I think barbecue, honestly. Like when I’m like, “Oh, we’re getting I’m like mac and cheese.” Yeah. Yeah. I agree. But but I do think if I were to go to a Thanksgiving dinner, a big one, and there was no mac and cheese, I wouldn’t be like, “What?” But I’d be like, “Oh, it’s kind of interesting. That’s slightly higher than me.” When I I go and I see it, I go, “Oh, nice.” Instead of of expected. Yeah. But I love mac and cheese. So that’s now it’s tricky. It’s hard to vote here cuz I’m like just general food. I’m like, “Oh, yeah. One.” Well, it’s this is one of those things because here’s here’s the thing. This this isn’t a blind ranking of what we expect at Thanksgiving. This is the what we enjoy. And if you’re Yeah. If you’re telling me you go to a Thanksgiving dinner and there’s a nice mac and cheese on the table, you’re not taking some of that mac and cheese. You’re [ __ ] liar. I know. Hey. Oh, dude. I am I am using too much in my plate to be honest with you. I’m like, “Oh, fuck.” So, that’s a three. Okay. We might pay for this, but Okay. I I We might We might We might. But I think that’s a three. Yep. All right. We got deled eggs. See, now I’m [ __ ] No, I think this is I mean that is if you are about to [ __ ] say that’s one devil eggs my favorite food. Yeah, but that’s now It’s about what I enjoy. You just said that. All right. Here’s Okay, Chris. Pizza. Pizza on this one. No, no, no, no. There has to be a modicum of respect to if you are in fact a side or not. And I think deileled eggs at Thanksgiving is a very rare thing that you have that you and I do the last 12 years because you and I love them. That does not mean that we are right. Now, I think devild eggs are [ __ ] delicious. You put a little bit of paprika on there. You put a dollop of wasabi on there. Okay. If you type in Oh, Sean. Wasabi. Sean. It will blow your mind. Is this a P household thing? No, no, no. I We can’t take credit for that. I’ve seen it at places. One of the great chefs we used to work for. But you put a little dollop of wasabi. Little little drip. If you Google are devild eggs a Thanksgiving side, the AI overview says yes, devild eggs are a common and popular side dish at Thanksgiving. We’re going to go four. And I think Are you [ __ ] crazy? Potatoes needed to be three. Potatoes needed to be three and we’d all we’d be we’d be perfect. You are you honest to God? And we what? We would still have one available. Yep. You’re an You’re an idiot. You’re out of your mind. Dude, devild eggs are goated. I like devild eggs more than you do, but I’m being realistic about this list. And you’re saying you like mashed potatoes more than devild eggs at Thanksgiving as a Thanksgiving side. This is a tragedy. Devild eggs are a Thanksgiving appetizer at best. This is a tragedy. But okay. No. No. Okay. Do you want to put them one? Yes. Fine. Go for it, dude. No. You No. Go. Because you know what pisses me off here is if we get if Sean gives us a veggie next, if we get a a a roasted Brussels sprouts, then yes, I’m like, “Fuck me.” But I I just I want you to know that that doesn’t mean you’re right. And devild eggs are the number one Thanksgiving side over mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. Just just admit that you’re a [ __ ] anarchist. You had said that you only had one thing above mashed potatoes. So that’s feels like Russian roulette. If we if we save one, then I’m like, well, I wanted mashed potatoes one. You’ve already [ __ ] me. I have been [ __ ] from the beginning. Okay. So, why don’t we just live in this wacky world that you’re in and go Devild Eggs one. But if the one thing that I think gets said here, I’m walking out of this like I’m walking out of this set. There’s something I like more, too. So, this could go badly for me. Okay. Devild eggs one. All right. You ready? Yeah. Pumpkin pie. You I actually I love pumpkin pie more than you. I I wonder how you feel right now. I’m devastated because I love pumpkin pie. Pumpkin pie should not be on this list. That is not a side. That is a dessert. It does say technically dessert. Yeah. Yeah. It’s a technicality. Still better than carries again. Like this list went well. I guess we’re I feel good. I feel great. I think I I think that you are um What was your other potential one? I think and it specifically Oh, I know what you’re going to say. Craft stove top stuffing. Yeah, just put water in it. Put it on heat. Stuffing out of the box. Put some butter in that pan. And [ __ ] god, dude. William H. Macy recently had a tangent where he was I forget he was doing press for some movie or something and he they were talking about Thanksgiving sides and he brought up stuffing and he was like, “You deserve to be shot if you try to like up stuffing.” Like when I go to someone’s Thanksgiving and they have homemade stuffing and there’s there are oysters and artichokes in it, I’m like, “Go [ __ ] yourself. Pull pour it out of the box and put water and butter in it and make the best thing I’ve ever had in my life.” And I’m like, “Amen, sir. Amen.” Ready? In four minutes. It’s so good. Amazing. Okay, that’s it for our blind ranking. I can’t wait to see the comments on this. I have no idea how that’s going to go. Huge shout out and thank you to Tyson Barry. Unbelievable interview, unbelievable episode. Guys, go to the store, grab some merch, go subscribe to the YouTube, follow on all accounts. We absolutely love you. We will see you later this week, right before Thanksgiving. Don’t worry, we’re still coming to you on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. And until we see you then, skate hard. [Music]

I would follow Landy to whatever end, even into the very fires of Mordor. Landy and the Avs are only playing for the cup, the one cup to rule them all!
Mackenzie Blackwood has not lost his job. He had a shutout on 34 shots the night before.
Dallas fired the Bednar killer deboer. Avs are starting their dynasty
Blackwood/Wedgewood is the best tandem in the NHL
Rantanen fully extended his arms, pushing Romanov into the boards, then proceeded to collect himself and try to play the puck. He should've been suspended for that hit and I don't think mikko is a dirty player at all
Ole puss debutt can’t do his voodoo magic on the avs this season 🙏🏻
As a life long Devils fan, I don’t think Fitzy should pay the price for Quinn. I know every other Devils fan wants us to trade for him, but just wait two years and get him for free rather than trade the farm to get him
Blackwood hasn't lost his job z they are just bringing him back slowly from his injury. Wedgewood balling out like he has just allows the Avs to take as much time as they want to with Blackie.
Avs fan here…enjoying this winning. However, knowing the history of this team in playoffs I'll hold all the hype for May when it fucking counts. If the Avs do this all season then shit the bed AGAIN in round 1 I don't think that's forgivable. Fuck the Presidents trophy GET PAST ROUND 2 for more than once in 10 years!
I hope my Wedgewood for Vezina bet pays out!!! I've also got a parlay going Broncos-Avalanche-Nuggets to win respective championships. Lots of expectations here in Colorado
Avs played the Sharks on a b2b and it was Blackwoods 1st or 2nd game iirc. Lost in OT on a stupid turnover. Id be surprised if they lose Wednesday
That kraken OT win in Pitt got me fired up 🦑 Marchment back on the score sheet go kraken
All I’m saying is Canes have tons of space and oh what would a top line of Slavin and Hughes look like
were you guys there for the iconic “it’s about heart, not your boobs” jack speech? 😂
As an Avs fan, I just hope T-Bear knows we miss him. Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll get into sports broadcasting and do Altitude or something.
If I could have a superpower, it would be to see Tyson’s memories. Guarantee that dude has the best inventory of storylines in the league.
And yeaaahhhh people keep making excuses for mikko – both events didn’t have to be so bad. He was clipped, sure, not near bad enough to be sooooo out of control he couldn’t help but give Ramonov and extra shove. Also, my first thought was he was embellishing and it went wrong. Two days later he’s fined for TWO embellishments? Cmon people. Coronado turned slightly… he was lined up seeing numbers long before Coronado turned but then he extends his arm through the hit.
Idk if mikko is intending to injure but he is actively making borderline situations dangerous and as a professional, you have to be in some control of your body. Should have been suspended.
totally agree with the Stove Top Stuffing 🙂
Deviled eggs are not a thanksgiving side
I feel like Chris missed on the opportunity to use the term puck bunny in the Jack and Tate segment 😂
And we all saw what happened when the Boston Bruins were the winningest regular season team in NHL history
Oh that was Sean’s fault???? Hey fuck you sean
Blackwood has not lost his job lol
Quinn is bad at D.
Mikko has fit in perfectly with Dallass, it’s like he wanted to be there and was aiming to land there. The guy has become Jaime Benns apprentice and leads the league with penalty minutes (last time I checked)
Quinn Hughes is not at the table with Makar… Cale is in a tier of its own. Stop the comparisons already cause there is none. Also hes injury prone like all the Hughes brothers and plays a very charmin soft game.
