Mike Brown after Knicks’ hard-fought win over Brooklyn
So what will the things we keep
talking to our guys about is we want to make sure that we’re
physical defensively and we do it without fouling and
I in the first half we probably filed too much
obviously with 17 free throw
attempts. We did a better job in the
second half I think they had 11 in the second half so we got to
keep trying to lead with our chest when we’re playing defense
and show our hands. Another thing that you know,
Brooklyn does very well then The offensive glass and and I thought the first half, we
gave up a few too many, but free throws
and offensive rebounding. What kept them in the game and at
first half and we gave up a few too many
offensive rebounds. We clean that up in the second half. I
think giving up five for the for the second half but our guys did a good job, you
know. Other than that defensively, you know we gave up too fast,
break points in the fourth quarters, we got to keep working
on our transition defense. And then we were active
defensively, we had 22 deflections, and, and so, any time we can play a
game like that, you know, especially given up,
28 paint points. It’s a pretty good defensive
game. I thought our contests were good to along the
perimeter, did a great job sharing the
basketball, and take care of the ball, 28 assists, on 45, or so buckets. And and
and then, you know, eight turnovers for the game. Mmmmm both Josh and Cat were monsters
on the glass. They each had 12 boards that on the glass and every rebound
was big for us. Josh was the defensive play of the game,
so good win for us on the road and a lot of contributions up and
down the lineup. Yeah, it’s extremely important. And
really, it’s what leadership is, you
know, he’s not afraid to say what’s on
his mind, especially when you start talking about telling
the truth. So, having a guy like that is, as a leader,
haven’t guy like Jalen, you know, we got it. The veteran
guys that are about the right stuff and that was all that was was taking
accountability knowing that we could play better on that end
of the floor, but we have to go do it and we did a pretty
good job of it tonight except for like I said, send them to
the free-throw line. He was really good. You know
again we try to move them around quite a bit and try to
have them at the L, will try to have them in the post, try to
put them in the pick and roll game and, you know, he just, you can see his comfort. Level is
starting to get there. And but what I will say that, you know,
his teammates to understand what one of our key Stables is,
which is the spacing in, you know, if our spacing is Right. Especially after all the
movement that we try to incorporate within what we do in
the front Court. Then he’s going to have room to drive and
if he has room to drive, it’s going to be tough for his
Defender because he can shoot the ball if you
don’t close out, close enough to them. So, great game by cat, picking a
spots to drive it, to shoot it to spray it at a couple of great
sprays as well, but also, you know, the rest of our guys,
don’t a fantastic job of making sure the floor was spaced
correctly. I’m trying to get to the yeah, you know, I just liked it,
he mixed it up and and also, you know, his threes. I thought his threes
were from the right spots at the
right time to wind his aggressiveness opened it all
up. Well, I mean you know they’re an
NBA team and Jordi Fernandez, he didn’t get enough
credit, he told a heck of a job with that team while they’re
going through, whatever process they’re going through. And and you know we just got a little handsy, a little too physical world, we
were bumping guys on their shots and you’re sending to the
free-throw line. I thought we did a better job, cleaning that
up as the game went along though. I told Jordi Jordi is in a tough spot, you
know, but the reality of it is you know a head coach in the NBA and it’s
the Brooklyn Nets and while they’re going through this
process, you know, just continue doing
what he’s doing, you could watch like the last couple of
games because we watch games prior to our game, they’re playing hard, you know,
they’re trying to move the ball and move bodies and you know they won some pretty
good. Names. They beat Boston at.
Boston had a chance to beat Toronto in Toronto on the road
Toronto’s playing fabulous. So you could see the marked
improvement that they had since we last played them and, you know, again attributed
obviously to their players locking in and doing whatever
the coaching staff is, probably telling them but Geordie to is a
really good young coach. Yeah. You know, again it’s still
pretty early and you know, I’ve said this a lot that
he has got the hardest job in the in on the team in terms of
trying to understand how to play all five positions and doesn’t matter if it is a four
on them or five, I think as time goes on his comfort level will start to
show and tonight was just evident of it.
Knicks head coach Mike Brown talks about the 113–100 win over the Nets. He discusses how the Knicks adjusted after committing too many fouls in the first half, Josh Hart’s strong defensive performance, and the importance of playing physically.
