Brian Baldinger breaks down which Denver Broncos could be extended after Sean Payton hints at it

On today’s DMV Broncos podcast, we are going to hear from Shawn Payeyton who had a very interesting comment about potentially extending more Broncos. Then we’re going to go through the list of the Broncos that could be extended and what we’re hearing about who will and won’t be extended. Big Show with our guy Brian Baldinger starting now. [Music] Yeah, [Music] heat. You get an extension. You get an extension. And you get an extension. Could the Broncos be handing out extensions like Oprah Winfrey handed out cars? We’re going to break it down on the DMV Broncos podcast live from the Toyota Lounge driven by your local Front Range Toyota stores. And we are presented by BET365. Use that code DNVR365. When you sign up, Ryan Cingsburg, Henry Chisum is back. We got Dion behind the camera and Zach Stevens rocking and rolling with you. Ryan, you didn’t get the Oprah Winfrey thing. No, I got it. I got it. Oh, why’d you give me a weird look? I didn’t. I just smiled at Henry. It giving me a weird look in the process. Um, fellas, we got a big show to get to today because it’s Thanksgiving. We’re kind of cramming everything into one fewer show. So, uh, that means we’re just got so much to talk about. Um, Henry, it’s good to see you. How you feeling? Jeez. Where to start? Um, Montana lost. Yep. It was dark. Had to jump in the river because of a bet. And boy, was that cold. Wow. Uh, got bit by a dog. Teeth still hurt. Not uh, your teeth still hurt, not the dogs. I hope the dog’s teeth hurt. Wow. You got bit by a dog. Yeah, man. That is serious karma for all the [ __ ] you’ve been talking about. No, but the thing is this is the the reason though the these sorts of things with dogs always happen to me. Next thing you know, it’s just like, dog. All right. Yeah. Actually jumped in the river at the dog park, too. One dog just kept trying to get on another dog. You jumped in the river. Lost the bet. Montana lost. But at the dog park. Yeah. Closest river access to the stadium. River to jump into. Yeah. Right. I mean, there weren’t a lot of people out there at the time. Or dogs, I should say. Yeah. Wow. Ryan, you doing better? Any dog bites? I’m fantastic. Cat scratch fever, anything like that? No, I went to zoo lights last night. Um uh good way to kick off the holiday season. I’d hate to do this to him, but heavily overrated. Really? You don’t really get like that. You don’t really get the zoo. Okay. You also don’t really get that great of lights. Did you go in with all the elephants? I did. The elephants were What about the giraffes? And the giraffes, but like pretty sick, right? Yes. Was the hippo in there? I didn’t see a hippo. No, the hippo house is a cool one cuz that hippo is going to leave soon. I think I would rather just go to the zoo and then like just go to a lights thing. Interesting. Good to know. I won’t be putting that on my Don’t half ass two things, whole ass one thing, you know. Wow. Is the pause there at some some place, I’m sure. Yeah. I guess my thing I go to the zoo enough like so like you can’t see the lions cuz I mean lions are asleep at night obviously. Um well it’s like dark out and all that too. So like you can’t really see. But if if you frequent the zoo some of those animals you don’t get to see cuz it’s so dark. Just like oh yeah I saw them last week. Right. I just like, “Oh, I’ll spend more time up close with the big old giraffe.” I did get to see a tree kangaroo, which I assume is nocturnal. That’s very cool. I was out at night, probably. It was sick. I didn’t know that animal even existed. All right, we have too much time on this. Let’s whole ass this conversation right now. So, yesterday guys, Broncos were back in for in the building for just a couple of hours. Shawn Payeyton talked to the team, then Shawn talked to us, and uh I thought this was fascinating because he went out of his way to give us this information. So, Will Lutz, we’ll talk about this in a second, too, later on in the show. Will Lutz signed an extension with the Broncos on Friday. We’ll get to that, but I asked Sean about that extension just thinking he was going to hype Will up and instead he went and gave us the news of the day. Let’s hear this from Shawn. And I want you to hear the whole answer just so you can see how much out of his way he went. Coach, you gave Will Lutz an extension during the buy. Why was that so important to do? And it seems like you just have a trust and confidence in him that that’s pretty powerful. Can you just talk about that? Yeah, I think first off he’s earned it. Um, you know, we we spent time, George and I before the break and discussed a number of players that we were going to visit with. And you know, the key is not affecting the mojo or the you know, how your team’s doing. And so I’m always sensitive to that. Um especially when when you’re playing well. Um because sometimes those can be difficult discussions. Um but no, we were able to to get well done. Um there’s a there’s a few other players that, you know, we know we’ve reached out to. Um, and I think the the key is the communication aspect of it all. So, twice in that answer, Sean went out of his way to uh say that, well, we’ve George and I have discussed other players that we want to have conversations with about extensions and then said again, there are a few other players that we’ve reached out to, guys. No deals done in the by-week outside of Will, but clearly I think Sean wants to keep pushing this agenda. Definitely. Um, but then didn’t our boy Kristo have some reporting on this? Oh, he did. He kind of stepped on my dreams. Well, and so I think I think your dreams were everyone’s dreams. Everyone’s dreams because the Broncos have about 10 guys, which we’ll talk about that list that are unrestricted free agents after this year. And those are the guys that typically you go get the extension done with right now. And at the very top of that list, JFM, John Franklin Meyer, probably the guy that’s going to get the most on the open market after this season. That got a lot of people’s hopes up. But Crystal Mason has been on this uh JFM uh he’s the JFM insider. He’s He is the JFM insider. Exactly. and he’s been on this and uh the news that he came out with just a couple of hours after he said quote source says Broncos have not expressed interest in possible extension during the season for John Franklin Myers he’s in line to be a free free agent March um and then yeah just continued there but uh have not reached out to JFM dreams crushed yeah can I go home yeah sure no because it’s taco Tuesday you got some tacos to eat right or some burritos wait till you guys find out or some pabanos to eat. A pepper. Um um look, maybe I don’t know. I don’t like this. Let’s just let’s open like if we’re openly throwing out there that we’re having conversations with people. Let’s have a conversation with JFM. Why are we not having conversations with JFM? You don’t want to have a negative conversation. No, the conversation should just be like, “Hey, where are we at? That’s too much.” No, you don’t. You You You’re still at a point where you can lie. It is fascinating that you just be like, “Okay, just go lie to JFFL.” No, you don’t have to lie. Sorry. You don’t have to lie. You have to just say like, “Okay, interesting. You do that all the time.” Yeah. You don’t like just like I’ll throw it out there. Yeah. Okay. Cool. But but like even that you kind of take offense. I don’t know. If I was JFM, like if I said the most offensive thing of all time to Henry, he would just go, “Hm, interesting.” Yep. Yeah. So that’s what you say like when you ask JFM, “Hey, where are you at?” Like what are you looking for? or then he says a number you just go interesting okay we’ll talk soon but but see but that’s the thing is you see right through it and so if I’m JFM and you call and say like what are you looking for and I’m like oh I want $50 million a year and you say oh interesting and then just kind of like hey we’ll talk after the season at least there’s a conversation though at least you tried because if you uh if you don’t shoot you can’t make a shot right and uh if if you miss every shot you don’t shoot let What do you mean exactly they’re not shooting Yeah, why wouldn’t you at least try for JFM? Because we know that he is a good player. We know that he is that the Broncos defense is better with him on it. Now, we also know that you have to budget properly and you can’t necessarily pay everyone and maybe his price is 15, 17, $20 million. Maybe you can only afford $8 million and that’s what they have in their mind. You still at least reach out and ask because what if you what if you ask and says, “Give me the nine and we’ll make it a deal.” and then boom, a deal happens when you don’t when you don’t think it’s going to happen. The fact that and Chris has been all over this uh saying two months ago they hadn’t talked to JFM, four months ago they hadn’t talked to J. There’s been no communication according to what Chris is saying. Uh I agree. I wish they’d at least reach out. I I disagree. I I get the whole like it would be fun to hear that they’re trying to do it, but if you don’t intend to give him what he’s worth, like Sean said, you have to keep the mojo up, the morale up. Like just going around saying like, “Hey, what do you want?” and then just kind of like backing what’s like the Homer Simpson into the bush thing. Like that doesn’t leave a good taste in JFM’s mouth. Like sometimes it’s better instead of to just leave that can of worms closed instead of like opening it slightly to see what’s in there and it’s all just worms and knowing that eventually those worms are going to come out. But I think all roads lead to the same place, right? One it I guess we’re just disagreeing upon the process here. M like to me the Broncos the fact that they haven’t had these conversations yet tells me that they don’t have intentions to resign JF% probably because they don’t think they can afford him which is actually a compliment to JFM. Yep. Um even so not talking to him and then going publicly saying we’ve been we’re talking about talking to a lot of guys. We’re talking to you know we’ve talked to a few that sends the same message to me as going to JFM saying hey what where you at right now? He says I’m at 20. and you you just say like, “Okay, like that’s a little probably out of our price range right now, but let’s stay in touch.” To me, that’s like a little more pleasant. I I mentioned there’s like 10 other guys that are on this list. Who are other guys that it could be? We’ve got some insight here. And speaking of deals, just want to let you guys all know if you are a diehard, which I know a lot of people are that tune in with us, we’ve got our early access Black Friday sale going on right now. Let’s talk about some other guys that could be options and maybe also could JFM be an option down the road, but there’s other guys we need to talk about right after this. Mine’s never done that before. Mine’s always just my name. Never done that before. Usually it’s my name in there, but then like if you look at your actual channel because you have to have a channel, it like changes channel name. Weird. Um, okay. So guys, it does not seem like JFM is in line for an extension with the Broncos right now. But let me read you uh the the entire list of other guys that are set to be unrestricted free agents. And you tell me who you think the Broncos should go after, who you think they will go after, and we can break that down. Uh, so along with JFM, Alex Singleton, Malcolm Roach, Justin Sternod, PJ Lockach, JK Dobbins, Luke Watenberg, Adam Troutman, and then the two fullbacks, Mike Burton and Adam Apprentice. That’s a lot of good players. It is some starters and then some key role players, too. Yeah. So, what’s the question you’re asking? Who should they who should they go after? Who who should they be having these extension talks with right now? Um, a lot of them. Malcolm Roach sticks out. Um, another guy though who might just be like playing himself above your uh what you can afford for what you asking him to do. Um, Justin Sternad is one who I feel like probably isn’t going to break the bank, but at the same time has played well enough to be considered a starter in the league. and so might be able to get more money somewhere else. Um there’s one other big one that you mentioned. Singleton, PJ Lock, JK Dobbins, Watenberg and Singleton as well. Um that’s a conversation you’re going to have to have. I don’t I wouldn’t want to lose both Alex Singleton and Justin Sternad. Um and Watenberg. Watenberg is the one where it’s just like, hey, we have a chance to just run it back with this offensive line. We like this offensive line. Let’s do what we can to keep it together. And so let let’s start right there with Watenberg because it consistency and continuity on the offensive line is so important. I would love to keep him here. Um but it I mean probably with all these guys it’s going to depend on the price um to to some extent. Can you pay all five offensive linemen? Because the Bronx are paying big time money left tackle, left guard, right guard, right tackle. Um, and then if you pay him, you would assume it be a good contract because he he is playing well right now. He’d be your cheapest of the group. Um, I there’s also the fact that there’s a good chance they’ll move on from Ben Powers this off seasonason. Save yourself 10 million bucks. Um, I don’t know. Alcho then becomes your guy. Yeah, right. I’ve got some conspiracy theories for later. Uh, Paltro being one of them. But um Luke Watenberg I think fits in a similar category as Sternod where it’s like okay you definitely want to have him valuable piece. Do you want to make a decision on the future right now or would you rather just wait until the end of the year and figure it out cuz I don’t think the price changes all that much for Watenber. Maybe you could save a little bit of money. Um but when the contract is not that big to start with like it’s going to be less than $10 million per year. um the difference between like six versus oh he plays out of his mind down the stretch and it’s $8 million a year. It isn’t that big. Like the same thing with Sternod where yeah if you wind up starting Stern and Green Law next year do you like it? But also do you want to make that decision right now or would you rather just let the season play out and make those decisions at the end of the year? I I don’t think I don’t think there’s an urgency there. I think that’s fair. I think that inside linebacker one’s fascinating because last year you were really fortunate to be able to get Justin back and remember he had a deal with the Carolina Panthers to go join them. He had agreed to it. At least that’s what reports were saying and then Sean or Vance got on the phone and said, “Hey, we’ll give you the same or more if you come back.” He came back with the Broncos there. I heard there was other interesting things that happened in that conversation. I like that. Um, but now, like you said, Ryan, he’s played himself out of the backup role right now where he can go get starter money. Now, Alex Singleton also an unrestricted free agent. Um, the Broncos, I think, are unfortunately going to have to choose between one of those two guys because they just simply can’t pay a starter and then high money for a backup as well. Yeah. Uh, I find it interesting if you look at the players that have played linebacker here since Shawn has been here. Uh, it was Josie and Alex. It was Cody and Alex. And now it’s Dre, Justin and Alex. Common thread. Alex. Alex. Yeah. I think that Seawn Peyton really likes Alex Singleton. I think that Vance Joseph really likes Alex Singleton. And I think that they see the value in him the way that we see the value in him. And so if I had to guess, I’d think that he would be one of the guys that they would work to bring back. Right. the the tough part being his age, you know, cuz he’s 32 now, so he’d be 33 next season. Um, still obviously playing well. Um, but I think that’s just one more reason to let it play out. And you also have Dre Green Law there. As much as, you know, we like what we saw from Dre Greenaw started the year. Is there a world in which you say this off season we can save 7 million bucks if we move on from Dre? That world still exists to me. like you hope that he’s just healthy the rest of the way. But if there’s an injury that pops up, you might come out of this season saying we can save that 7 million bucks, push that over to Sternod, just bring Alex back for what we’re already paying him and we like that group. And so that’s why I think I don’t I I don’t need to be setting anything in stone right there. I think you can just let the season play out and this might be a situation where the answer kind of just presents itself to you. Well, and and and I know that right now uh conversations haven’t happened with Alex yet, but not a surprise just where things are right now. Can there’s still six weeks left of the season and I always when I think about these deals, no conversations with Alex yet. No conversations with JFM yet. Who are these conversations happening with? Okay. Well, we we we’ve got a little bit of an idea of who they’re happening with. And I kind of mentioned it before. We got to squeeze a little bit more into this show right now. So, we’re going to hit another quick break and then we’ll dive into who they’re happening with in just a second. And shout out to our presiding sponsor Beth 365. He’s at code DNVR365. So Ryan, you hit two names that the Broncos are having preliminary talks with or at least had prelim preliminary talks. According to Mike, Luke Watenberg and Malcolm Roach are guys that over the bye-week the Broncos reached out to and talked to. Now, what we don’t know is uh was there an offer made and it was nope, way too way too low for me or if it’s continuing conversations because we know George Payton since he’s been the GM here likes to get deals done over the by-week. We had Will Lutz last year. We had Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick a couple of years ago during the by-week. So, now that we have moved on from the by-week, some people might think, okay, conversations are now done. It doesn’t mean that though. you don’t have to get deals done in the bye-week or it means they don’t happen. Um, but it is interesting that Sean probably very intentionally on Monday kept pushing that which tells me the Broncos want to get these deals done still. What if I told you my eye goes to the restricted free agents. What about Jaquin McMillan? Yeah, you get such an easy kicking of the can down the road. It could be I think also Okay, I’m gonna let you go ahead. Okay. So, I think the tough part is figuring out how exactly you tender him because his value is a weird one. So, if you wanted to, again, they’re guessing that like $6 million is the second round tender. I’d imagine you have to at least do that because teams would give up a third round pick to get Jaquan. I think that is probably solidified. Like to us, he’s Well, there would be no third round pick. It’s just either a second round pick or nothing, right? And so, I I I think that you have to by that logic say you have to go to the second round pick. Could you just give him the extension now at that same rate? Either at that rate some somewhere around there and just lock him up for a couple years instead of playing the restricted free agency game. It it’s interesting cuz I don’t know how exactly they wrap their head around it. Um given the way that uh the way that that market like you have Jade there, you have all this weird stuff. I think you want Jaquin back though because we still are all in agreement that he’s at the worst the third best nickel in the NFL, right? You do want him back. What if he goes to a Pro Bowl? That’s why you can just have him back for very cheap and kick the can down the road because you you just you have to figure out what you have with Jade. You you drafted Jade. It’s just like what people were talking about in the um comments about Savon Jones, like oh well you drafted Savon Jones, you drafted JF’s replacement. You got to make sure you were right before you just accept that. So, I like what we’ve seen from Jade over the last couple weeks. He’s had a couple bad plays, a couple great plays, a couple good stretches, couple bad stretches. That’s just a rookie. Yep. Um I when when I look at rookies, I just look at the good. Like if you’re seeing enough good, then you don’t have to worry about the bad. You can get rid of the bad as long as the good’s there. If you’re if you’re not seeing enough good, that’s the problem. I think we’re we are seeing enough good from Jade. You just got to tighten up the screws a little bit. Um, with that being said, if you can just buy another free year of right experimentation without really any long-term commitment, I think that’s an easy decision to make. When the defense looks like this, I feel like you can’t just take a guy out for no good reason just because you are excited about some guy behind, you know? Well, but but then you would have that same conversation about Alex Singleton. You’d say just pay him, don’t think about it. You’d have the same conversation about Malcolm Roach since he is such a key piece as well. You’d say that definitely you’d say that about JFM, right? Um, but you just can’t pay everyone. So, it does get interesting. I’m I’m with Ryan. I just And it has nothing to do with Jaquan. It just has to do with the future plan by one more year on this and then if you figure out like, man, we cannot lose him or we’re going to put uh Jade on the outside. Um, I just it would just be very complicated if you gave him a long-term deal right now. To me, the difference though is just that Jaquin’s a guy who I think could win some awards. Like like he is one of the best nickels in the NFL. And I think that when you’re on a defense like this, this next couple months could be when his name starts to be one you hear more and that could lead to teams offering contracts to him that like you do have the opportunity to match, but at some point how how high are you willing to go when you could make the difference? Whereas like Singleton’s cost is going to be same now as after. Nod’s going to be same now as after. The reason I kind of go to him is because I think that value could skyrocket over the next skyrocket 10 weeks is what you’re saying. Yep. That’s fair. And the other guy I’d throw in there, Nate Atkins, just seems like it’d be so easy to say. He’s he obviously plays a role here. Just lock him up and keep that going instead of playing again like the RFA game. Like I I Sean’s one of those guys who likes to give his to like prove a point when he gives out a contract. You also though with those you you do have that benefit of just being able to place the tag. This is the weird part about drafting shot A and like at the time it’s kind of like oh well like depth is important and you just like load up on positions of value and that this that and the other but like it does leave you in this weird position where had you told me like you can just have Pat Riley and and Jaquin for the next four years. I would have just been like cool sign me up. Yep. I’m good. Yeah. Um and then you can also add like Trayvon Henderson to the mix or whatever. Not to say they shouldn’t have drafted Jade or anything against Jade, but it was a weird move at the time. We all that was all of our instant reaction was, huh, ne that’s not necessarily a position of need, right? And then you like talk yourself into it and you go, okay, well, it’s not always about just drafting positions need. You just draft best player on the board, etc. Uh, but it did put it does put you in these weird situations where it’s like you have to gamble a little bit potentially on Jade. Yeah, totally. Um, I think in terms of the unrestricted guys, the one that I that I want to see done that that communications are happening is is Malcolm Roach. Um, because I do think as we’ve had the conversation today, JFM uh will not be here next year. And then uh so you you kind of replace him with the combination of Malcolm and Seavon where Seavon really plays his position, but then you can lean on Malcolm Roach a little more. And man, Malcolm is so valuable to the heart and soul of the defensive line, to the defense, to the team. And I think Shawn really really knows that. Um and and I hope that Alex also gets done. It’s going to be interesting to see what they do with Watenber. And the one name that we haven’t mentioned, which I’m sure we’ll have a lot of conversations about moving forward, is JK Dobbins because holy cow is he valuable to this team. But it the exact thing we knew was going to happen happened. He got injured at some point and it seems like he’s going to miss an entire half of the season right now. That’s a fascinating one. And it’s un very very unfortunate for JK because man, he was set for a big-time pay. He’s only 26 years old right now. It feels like he’s like this vet that’s been in the NFL forever. Uh but that that’s not the case. He’s only 26 years old. Um and also a very valuable piece off the field to this team as well. Yeah. I don’t know if there’s that many conversations to be had. I agree. And like it’s sad. This might be like my most savage. Wow. opinion. But it’s just like there’s no way there’s no way. What do you do? You guys No, we’re having conversations later about this. You You definitely explore bringing them back. Okay. We can talk about it at a later date. And I talked about it last week and it was a quick one. One of the things Well, well then we’ll have longer conversations. You have to draft somebody. You’d have to sign another and then you use him as like a third. It’s like you use No, not necessarily. You can’t have a season go down the drain. We don’t have to worry about it right now cuz there there’s no way the Broncos are actually going to have conversations with them right now, but it is conversations after the season’s over. Speaking of uh having this conversation, maybe we could have it with Brian Baldinger in the future, but we’re going to have Brian Baldinger on in just a second after uh we we hit this break. We got all your ABS, Nuggets, Rockies, CU, CSU gear that you can get as well. We should probably get some DU gear up there. Do you see what DU basketball is uh is doing? Oh, they beat Colorado State. Handed CSU their first loss. Where where are your legions stand? Um well, I’m a proud pile, right? So, what would happen if CSU seems like 15 and a half point underdog and they won. And then last night, they covered the spread against Arizona. They covered the spread. It was only a 50-50 set. Was 32 and a2 points. Arizona number one in the country. Uh they’re they’re top top 10 program. Um did you uh did any of your players get spit on when you played Colorado State? Uh no, did not happen. Very lucky. Oh, right. Cuz that kid spit on a kid. Two did. Two of them. Yeah. Wait, maybe I I Those are bad kids. I don’t know what you’re talking Wait, I got to I got to send Baldi the uh the link. Uh right. So, multiple Colorado State players got suspended following their matchup with Boise State for spitting on their opponents. Can’t do that. Wait, when? This weekend? Yeah. I didn’t hear about that at all. Where were you, bro? I was celebrating DU’s win, which I have think happened on Sunday. Friday night. Yeah. Have to change their name from the Rams to the Llamas. Nice. Yeah. Carlos State Llamas up there. Should make a little logo. You could tweet it. That would be good. It’d almost be good. Yeah. Alternate logo. It would. I had a whole conversation with Ak about it. We got to People got to stop spitting on each other. Yeah, it has become a big thing. I’ve never spit on someone. Not once. Yeah. I plan to go my whole life without doing. It’s just even in a heated moment. It’s disgusting. I wouldn’t ever consider it. If you’re mad, hit somebody. Don’t spit on them. Yeah. Much more respectable. All right. I just heard our guy Brian Baldinger call in. Uh Baldi rocking the NFL logo. Absolutely love it. How you doing, my friend? I’m good, guys. Uh happy Thanksgiving, everybody. A little early for it, but uh you know, it’s a good time of the year, man. Family, food, fun football. A lot of football. So, uh it’s good time of the year, guys. And fun football, too, with the Broncos looking real good. Baldi, before we dive into to the current state of the Broncos, we were just having the conversation yesterday. Shawn Payeyton said that the Broncos are having some extension conversations with some guys and some big notable guys that may maybe the top one is JFM and we heard from from uh a reporter in Denver that said the Broncos are not currently talking to JFM. Do you think that’s a mistake? Do you think the Broncos should do whatever they need to in order to bring John Franklin Meyer back or uh is is it to that point where you can’t necessarily pay everyone on a defense? Well, I mean, I would I would do my everything I could to bring him back. I mean, he’s just a great football player. I mean, he he started with the Rams. Uh cut got cut loose and came to the Jets and built a home. The Jets haven’t replaced him, not yet. And he went to Denver and he’s found a real home there. Uh you know, with DJ and Zack inside and you know, Malcolm, the whole group. It’s it’s a good rotation. Uh I think he’s a core I think he’s a core player just the way he plays the game and uh the way that he could contribute in so many ways. I mean he’s a good pass rusher but he’s good against the run. He’s a big body. Like there there not that many of those guys out there that have um that well-rounded of a skill set. Yeah. And it’s a strange place for the Broncos cuz they drafted Seavon Jones tried to convert him from edge rusher to the interior um basically to be a JFM to fit that exact mold. But when you look at it, when they’ve got Zack Allen and DJ and JFM and Malcolm and now Uzarque is playing a bunch, you got Sav, all of a sudden that room’s just so packed that there’s no room for those guys to grow. It It’s tough to say we want to get rid of one of our really good players who’s important to this pass rush because we think a rookie can do it. But at the same time, at some point, you kind of have to rip off the band-aid, right, and say we have to we have to use our asset somewhere else. Yeah. I mean I mean there there is that philosophy you know where you got to de develop but at the same time if their production if their production is what it is and it’s considerable um you you can’t think about the development of the future guy. However, if the guy is not playing good then he’s stealing reps then that then that that’s when you know then that guy is getting kind of we’re not getting a good look at him because we’re not going to find out what he can do until he gets a chance to play. But it’d be hard to disrupt what they have going on right now up front just for a development of a young player. Like I you could push that to next year or later because of injuries, whatever might happen. I mean Jade Baron wasn’t playing when, you know, Certan was, you know, out there and and now he’s getting a chance to play, but that’s because the opportunity presented itself. So um you know, I I don’t think you can worry about that, right? Not when you have an eightgame win streak and you’re looking at the division and you’re looking at, you know, playing serious football in January right now. All right, Baldi, changing topics a little bit here. This was kind of supposed to be the week where we settled the rookie of the year from last season like and unfortunately we’re not going to get that. But quickly, if you can, if there was a reddraft of the six first round quarterbacks from last year today, knowing everything we know now about them their play in the league, how would it go? If we reddrafted, I don’t I wouldn’t change one and two. I wouldn’t change Caleb. Caleb needed a chance to play with a with a good coordinator and a well-built team, and all he’s doing is ascending right now. Now, we’ll see what happens on Black Friday in Philadelphia, but I mean, he’s he’s playing good football. And Jaden was, you know, he was unanimous now. The injuries are the injuries. Um I thought last year, even week one, um against Tampa, his first start, I thought he was running too much. He ran 16 times in that game. And I go, he’s nobody’s built for it, especially him, and now he’s got these injuries. Um but I I know where you’re going. Like, I probably would take both third right now. I probably just stay with him, you know? I’ I’d move him up obviously in front of Penn, but I would probably move him up to number three right now. I love that. I absolutely love that. And that that just speaks a lot to what Bo and Shawn have been able to do. Baldi, uh, on a on a different note with looking forward with this team, are the Broncos in trouble when it comes to their running back spot right now. We’ve only seen one game with the team not having JK Dobbins and the run game wasn’t really able to get going against Kansas City. We did see Jal take a step. Uh, and obviously R.J. is going to be uh called a lot called upon a lot moving forward. Do you think that this running back group will be able to work not just in the regular season, but in the playoffs or are they in trouble? I don’t know if they’re in trouble because we got to we got to see what they do against Washington this week. Um, I like Jal, but I think he’s a change of pace back. I don’t know if he’s a a guy that you can pound it with. We got to find out if RJ can be that guy because we don’t know yet. um wasn’t very good against Kansas City. They weren’t very good against Kansas City. And you can’t rely on Bo just to kind of bail him out with scrambles and and other design. You want to try to limit the amount of runs. And we’ll see what I guess Tyler Bed would be the next guy. I’m not sure, but uh it’s not it’s not what JK was. JK was awesome, but he does have a strong injury history and that’s why he’s not in Baltimore and he’s you know he’s not with the Chargers anymore. And you know, they got they got what they could get out of him. They got a eightgame win streak. He was a big part of that. But uh it’s unfortunate. But I I don’t know the answer to it until I see the rotation and to see just how effective they are because short yardage goal line, you know, four-minute drill like when you got the lead in the fourth quarter, all these things where you want a strong run game to to happen. um and you know and every time every team that you play climbing the ladder in the playoffs is going to be incrementally better against the run. That’s how they got there. So it it remains to be seen right now. Well, it’s it’s tough for the Broncos, too, to have that injury happen right after the trade deadline because that was an opportunity to go out there and potentially patch that spot up. But now you’re looking at practice squads. Um you’re looking at free agents. You know, Gus Edwards is out there. there aren’t a lot of big names, guys who could come in and just kind of patch that piece of the puzzle, the in between the tackles piece of the puzzle. Um, one of those guys was um Damen Pierce, who apparently the Broncos were interested in. Um, do you think that adding somebody along those lines could be useful or is just the the talent gap between, you know, a second round draft pick and RJ Harvey and the guys who are going to be available at this point in the season too big for it to really matter that much? Well, I’d be calling everybody’s practice squad. You know, Damen Pierce just got released. I mean, he had a great rookie year. Um, you know, he didn’t play much at Florida. Um, and so he he he was awesome and then the injuries just hit him and it just knocked him down. Now, you know, maybe he’s damaged goods. I don’t know, but I I you have to take a look at He’s still young. He’s probably not 26 years old yet. I’m just guessing without looking at anything. Yeah, I’m guessing he’s not even 26. And he does have the history of, you know, 75 yard touchdown run, you know, from scrimmage. I mean, I’ve seen some of the big plays he had his rookie year. He was really good. He just never found that form again. Now, that was in Houston with some questionable offensive lines, but you know, you you you have to you never you never stop tinkering with the roster. You just because you you it’s never over and you always are trying to upgrade a position. Now, they lost a really key, you know, valuable member of the offense. Like, I would be combing people’s rosters and uh I know there’s trades are dead, but I mean the the the practice squad, I’d be looking at different guys. Uh they probably have scouting reports in all these guys. It’s not going to be somebody new, but I mean, I would take a look at Damen Pierce. I like uh Damen Martinez, who is on the Seahawks practice squad right now. University of Miami, right? Uh yes. And before that, Oregon State. Yep. Yeah. No, I I agree. He was a Yeah. If you go like I’m just studying just remember studying a lot of the offensive lineman Jaylen River some guys that came out of Miami this year and um and just being around that program during the pro days with Cam Ward like he he popped he popped quite a bit and uh he was a really good player uh for them last year. So I mean that certainly a possibility. Baldi speaking of guys that have popped quite a bit in the NFL. Von Miller the Broncos get to play against Vaughn for the third time in his career. Where is Van at in this stage? How worried should the Broncos be uh about him right now in this game? Well, I’m around Vaughan actually quite a bit. Um I do a sack summit every year in LA out in Las Vegas and u we have a a mutual business interest uh with some a foot company, shoe company. Um so I’m around him. I break down all his film every week. like he can still like his thing is it’s actually interesting to talk to Vaughn about pass rush because he’s not a guy that says well you know you got to perfect this move you got to have this move like what Vaughn always has done even in his prime in Denver is he he likes to get a great takeoff and then he likes to get his hands on guys and then react and so you know that that guy can still win you like if if Bo steps up and Von’s on the outside and he and disengage from your right tackle like he’s going to go close. He can still he’s still got closing speed. He made a play in the last game against Miami on the other side of the field, you know, chasing two down. Um, so he he’s still I think he’s got four and a half sacks right now if I’m not mistaken, but I mean he can still he can still get to the quarterback and so, you know, if he gets to the quarterback, he can affect the quarterback and he always knows depending on where he’s at on the field if he could get the ball out. Uh, you always have to be cognizant of that. Well, Baldi, we know that that you are close to Vaughn. Maybe tell him to to continue tearing it up, but just not this week. Be kind to Bo. And final one for you, Baldi. Um, when you when you look at this Commander team right now, like Ryan said earlier, it seemed like this was going to be such an awesome game. Now, it’s lost some of that because the Commanders, when you look at them, they’re a 3-8 team, likely starting their backup quarterback this week. What do the Broncos have to do to avoid a a pretty big upset here? Or should this be a pretty easy win for him? Well, I mean, on paper, it’s an easy win, but you know, they had the by-week also. So, you know, if they’re going to make any changes or look at any players or I mean, I just know Cliff Kingsbury like he didn’t sleep. All he did was tinker all week. So, you’re going to see whether it’s new formations or gadget plays or you’re gonna he’ll go deep in his bag to try to create a play or play here, play there. So, you know, like really, I mean, good defense is just play your defense, read your keys, and you you shouldn’t be out of place. But I would be I’d be cognizant of something Cliff does, especially with Mariota because um you know, he could catch he’s a good athlete, he could catch it, they could throw it back to the quarterback like all these gadget plays. Um, I’ve seen Cliff pull a bunch of them out when he had Mahomes at Texas Tech. I’ve seen him when he was at Arizona. Um, so I’ I’d be cognizant of that. They they find different ways to run the ball. Um, you know, at a very a variety of formations. And then, um, you know, I’m sure Dan Quinn is is doing everything he can. You know, they’ve lost six in a row. Doing everything he can to find a a spark, maybe a a new player, a you know, a new way of getting to the quarterback. They love to to blitz uh Bobby Wagner and Frankie Louvu, but I mean I I could see them going all, you know, just hellbent for leather, like just throwing it all out there. And so that’s what you have to be cognizant of. Yeah, it’s a very good point. Sunday Night Football, too. You want to put your best out there. And Baldi, you always put your best out there with us. We appreciate it. Happy Thanksgiving. We’re thankful for you. Enjoy a big time football weekend. Yeah, I plan on it. Look, likewise. Likewise. I’ll be at Texas A&M Texas on Friday and then I’ll be up doing the Falcons game on Sunday. So, I’m I’m excited. It’s good weekend for me. Oh, I love it. Baldi, thanks for joining us. Happy Thanksgiving. Awesome to talk to our guy Baldi, man. I’m jealous of that jacket. I know. It’s a good jacket. I need to be I need more gear of just organizations that I like. Yeah. Yeah, we are. I’m rocking the Kors Light right now. Um, also this would be like just having a shirt for like the beer industry. Oh, just beer. Lobbyist. They they do end their ad reads with beer. They do. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That’s it’s a good point. Um, obviously you have the leagues, but like what else outside of sports? Um, like uh the UN, you’re big UN guy. I don’t know. You’re right. I don’t know if I am. Right. Just trying to think of collectives. All of them together. But yeah, like the Big 12. I’m not sure. I like MLB, you know? Big fan of the Big 12. MLB would be cool, but also like I’m not sure I might be kind of anti a lot of the things they do. I know. I’m NFL NCAA, but at the same time, like I love all college football, so maybe, you know, that that says what I wanted to say. You know what brand we definitely are big fans of? Taco Bell because Taco Tuesday, let’s celebrate with delicious food. Taco Tuesday and here we have got a new innovation from Taco Bell. It’s not just a quesadilla. It’s not just steak. It’s not just publano. They took steak. Pablano, rolled it into a quesadilla. How is it? Oh my god. And of course, you got to add the sauces on there. You going fire today. Always fire. Always fire sauce. Always fire because it’s fire. Holy smokes. This is good. I know. You opened it and you’re like, “This isn’t a quesadilla.” I’m like, “It’s rolled quesadilla.” Rolled quesadilla. How did it take humans thousands and thousands of years to think of rolling a quesadilla into a burrito? It’s true. And I think Taco Bell was the first one to do it like decades ago and now they just started adding things to it. Taco Tuesday can’t get any better. Go celebrate with a rolled steak pablano quesadilla. Incredible. Literally a must have. Got to have it. Happy Taco Tuesday. Our friends over at Taco Bell have done it again, Henry. At Taco Bell, they are the best at menu innovation. I kid you not. Every single week, uh, when we get Taco Bell here, it’s something new. And they’ve done it again. Taco Bell is serving up, get this, a steak and roasted pablano. Rolled quesadilla. Wow. Steak, roasted pablano. That’s a pepper in a rolled quesadilla. Rolled quesadilla. My goodness. Just the absolute best. Uh, it’s of course a twist on a classic form. They just do everything. Uh, they do it all from the staples to new innovation. Taco Bell has got you covered. Let’s go places. All right, guy Cody gets it. He’s getting Taco Bell for lunch. So does Daniel Seps says fire sauce is quite yummy. And then Cody also says, “I like to pretend the chat is a Toyota and it can fit all of us in the chat.” Yeah. Um, so obviously we’re because of the holiday, we’re already extra squeezing ads into here today, so I won’t go too long, but that steak pablano rolled quesadilla is unbelievable. It smelled so good. It’s so good. I I’m going to have another one. Yeah, I might need to join you. Um, okay. So, we talked about this just a second ago or earlier in the show. Will Lutz got the extension, and it’s a three-year extension. Makes him right around the sixth highest paid kicker in the league. Guys, this is a win-winwin for everyone. Uh, this was a no-brainer deal. And you really don’t think about kickers until you don’t have one. And when you are in kicker hell, purgatory. Purg. It’s hell. Okay. When you’re in kicker purgatory, it’s hell because that cost you games. It cost you seasons. Especially, it matters the most when you’re an elite team and you’re making a playoff push and you’re in the playoffs. Brandon Mcmanis. Uh it it was good to have him from 2016 to 2022 or whenever he left the team. Um but it was crucial to have him in 2015 when he went 10 for 10 in the playoffs and was a key piece of that Super Bowl team. We’re right back there in that window right now. And you got Will Lutz who is that caliber of a kicker. Yeah, love Will Lutz. Great member of the community. He loves it here in Denver. Um, I mean, he makes kicks better at a higher rate than any Broncos kicker ever has. Yep. I mean, I don’t know. I would like to find somebody who is disappointed by this decision cuz, you know, like Broncos country is so big that like of the millions of people, there has to be somebody somewhere saying like, I can’t believe they did this. I I would like to hear like what you could possibly dislike about this deal cuz it’s just so easy and it’s like the money is not all that much. The people over at uh his local golf course are pissed about it because it means he’s going to keep taking their money on the golf course. Ah, there we go. There’s somebody. I thought you were going to say because he answered his phone on the golf course to get the contract. Usually against the rules depending on how nice the golf course is. Exactly. That’s why they’d be mad. Yeah. Um I I also think that there’s just there is something between Shawn and Will and it’s actually pretty obvious. Um Shawn knows exactly how to handle Will Lutz uh off the field, on the field, in the media, in the offseason, in the regular season. And Will absolutely loves Shawn. For every year of Shawn’s career before he got Will, it was like almost 10 years. He had a new kicker every single year. Once he got Will Lutz, he’s been his kicker in New Orleans from the time that Shawn retired to then when he got to the Broncos, Shawn made sure to to get him. And Ryan, you found um we’ve actually seen a couple of clips from Shawn, the way he interacts with Will in Big Time Kicks, and it kind of goes against everything you would think to do with the kicker, but Shawn just knows him, and that’s so important. So, the first one that that I think we all noticed, there’s probably other examples of this, was the Texans game, right? When Will goes out, scores 1515, no time left. Will goes out to get the game-winning field goal. Sean’s screaming at him, right? He goes right through. That’d be bold of any coach to do outside of Sean. What does he do? He kicks it right through. Then you notice if I was Will, I would have been like, “Oh, between the uprights, that’s what we’re going for.” Thanks. He he just makes it lighter kind of for Will. Maybe that’s what he needs. Clearly, uh it’s the right button to press. And then in this past game against the Chiefs, he did something similar. Yeah, this is funny because um you know, Benny always says, “I’m on the same page with Shawn.” Uh, and so I was just guessing what this was, but this was before Will’s game-winning kick. He just started celebrating. Like he went like this and Shawn did. Shawn did. And so I posted it and I said, um, wouldn’t be like this is how much Shawn Peyton trust Will Lutz. He celebrating before the field goal went in. In fact, I wouldn’t even be surprised if he was doing this towards Will Lutz. And Will Lutz quoted me and he’s like, “Yep, right at me.” And I did it right back to him. Yep. I love it. And we actually have the clip. It’s only just a couple of seconds. It’s It’s incredible. I love it. I love it. That Sean pours into Will. And I really think that that’s that’s what this is. Like it’s just the same thing as if you’re playing a match in golf and your partner has a 10-footer to win the match. Like you’re telling them like, “You’re going to make this [ __ ] I know you’re going to make this shit.” And then they go and they make it. It’s just like you pour confidence into someone so that they can feel their best. And I think that Will’s in a groove right now where he believes it. So it’s not like you have to like be careful with him. Like no, he believes he’s going to make it. Sean believes he’s going to make it. His teammates make it mean he’s going to believe he’s going to make it. So why not be a little like extra with it just to give him that extra boost? I love it. And we know that Shawn really doesn’t say anything negative on Bo, but he has a couple of times here and there. Um, and again, nothing too bad. He’s never said a negative thing about Will Lutz. Not a single thing about Will. He he knows what what Will needs. Yes. And uh during that when me posting that, I realized that Will only has one L. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Gave the other one to the Chiefs. Okay. But I’m going to start calling him we UTS. No L’s. Oh. Ah. Okay. We We UTS. I like that. I like that a lot. Um we’ll present that with him and see what he thinks. like that. Um, okay. Before we get out of here, we got a couple of super chats that we want to hit. Shout out to everyone that’s tuning in with us right now. Oh, and I also just saw just an update for you guys. It really does not seem, we mentioned this is Baldi, but it really does not seem like Jaden Daniels is going to play. We got that update in the last 24 hours. Yes. Are you past the point where you think that NFL games might be easy? Like, have you grown beyond that? No. Okay. No, there’s there’s there’s very easy games. I There are easy games in the NFL. Yes. Yes, there are. There aren’t. Yeah, we see beatd downs every week. Yeah, we see beat downs. That Yeah, that Yeah, they’re blowouts. That those are easy wins. They aren’t ne I disagree. Yeah. Yeah. Um and we’ll we’ll talk about this tomorrow because we’re going to dive into the Commanders who again are three and eight and starting a backup quarterback. Former number one overall. Give me a break. And then what happened? He was so bad that he had to be a backup somewhere. They didn’t run the ball enough with Derrick Henry. Demarcus Russell is also a uh former number one overall pick. Was he number one or two? Oh, he was one, baby. He was the last one to get the big contract being the number one pick. Um, okay. Let’s dive into these super chats. Oh, that was Sam Bradford. Pure Leine says, “Oh, maybe it was Sam.” Uh, but maybe both. Boys, I did bet 365. I won a $1,750 off that $200 in free bets they give you. Love you guys. Have a great day. Well, thank you for sharing some of that love and wealth with us, Pier Leine. That you got to know. You got to tell us what that bet was. That’s incredible. Usually with the free bets, 8 to 10 to one is the odds cuz like the way the math works out, that’s about where you want to use it cuz you don’t get the same return on the low odds stuff. So, if you you split that into like 10 $20 bets at those odds and that and you hit one of those, then that would be the payout. So I wonder if that was a strategy they they took your exact uh thought there because they did just under nine to one fit that’s right in between that eight to right if if it was if it was all in one which would be electric it would be pure leine also chimes in and says so what do you guys think about trading our first round pick this year and our second round this year and next and a couple late rounders to move up for Sadique um first and second and a couple late. No, just no. No. Tight end’s never worth it. No, you wouldn’t have done it for Tyler Warren. Um, no. I wouldn’t have I might have been wrong, but I would I still wouldn’t have done it. Right. It’s just too soon to be saying that like we got to go through the process like if he’s actually So, that’s a future first. So, it’s two first rounds. I’m guessing first two seconds. Yeah. And then figure it out. Too much. It’s It’s tough to say right now. Like, there’s a chance he’s just on the board when the Broncos pick. That’s what I mean. So, like there’s there’s too you think weird things happen. Remember last year when I said like I don’t know I kind I’m feeling Kaden Proctor might be the Broncos pick and now Kaden Proctor’s just like I don’t know he hasn’t been that good like these Ken Proctor’s been good. Yeah he’ll still be first round but before it was like he’s top five now it’s like yeah he’s like yeah um but yeah it’s too soon like see if he’s actually 255 pounds or if he weighs in you’re like oh he just looks m you know it’s problematic for the Broncos that there’s no quarterbacks worthy of being taken in the first round this year. True. Um, which will make just it harder at the end. But no, I would never trade that much for a tight end. That’s fair. You could end up with Kyle Pittz. You could. What a bust. Kyle Pitts was supposed to be generational, better than all these guys. It’s very true. It’s very true. Uh, we’ll hit this last super chat in overtime. Go to the dnvr.com to continue the conversation. And the final super chat is from the great brows who says, “Love how all the Denver teams actually pay their players besides the Rockies.” Weirdly enough, the Rockies do pay players. They just pay them the wrong players. The Rockies aren’t Desmond. The Rockies aren’t a cheap organization like people think. Well, then like they did pay Nolan Aronado and then they just traded him. They paid him to go as well. Um, but no, it is awesome. The ABS take care of their guys. The Nuggets obviously take care of their guys and the Broncos are 100% taking care of all of their guys. It is very, very cool. Yeah, it’s one of the cooler things in sports when like you can like buy a jersey without worrying like, “Oh, this guy could be gone in a couple days.” Um, and yeah, I just you you fall in love with like the the path and the players who are a part of the path. Like Jamal Murray and Nicole Yogish have been doing this together for what, a decade now? Yeah. Like it just I don’t know, it’s sick. We also just can never take for granted the the ownership group that the Broncos have right now because when you look around the league, Sean says it every time every couple of months that there’s only 8 to 10 teams that actually have a legitimate shot to compete year in and year out because of the ownership. And you just look at some of these other teams and imagine being there and being a fan of that team. And I mean, we kind of dealt with it for a couple of years when there was not really ownership here. And man, you just don’t have hope. Yeah. And now you don’t have to worry about what that with the Broncos maybe forever. Yeah. I spent my Sunday surrounded by Browns fans. Wow. There you go. I feel bad for those people. But at least they’re funny about it. Browns fans pretty funny. And they got the defensive player of the year. Yeah, they do. God, that crazy is really good. Um, all right. We’re going to dive into the Commanders Von Miller team tomorrow. Make sure to join us tomorrow at noon. It’s going to be another fun one. Thanks for tuning in. Have a terrific Taco Tuesday. God bless. Bonet [Music] [Applause] like the mayor.

  1. Have to trust Sean and George at this point. Love JFM but sounds like he deserves more than we can afford. Also they may be more pleased with the Rookie 95 then we know. Singleton should be high on the list. Wattenberg has been underwhelming to say the least

  2. I know you guys have bills to pay but you guys can’t even go ten minutes with out doing an add break. Plus normal YouTube ads this is getting really hard to watch

  3. I won’t say his name anymore.. Dude on the left can’t defend his own point without saying “ya know?” when he’s barely pressed. He is not a serious analyst. Why did he get re-hired years ago? Keep looking at that lap top bro.
