It’s been a rough year for injuries and an unhealthy Demko has definitely been a major factor, but I thought the team’s defensive game was suppose to be much better this year.

  6. Does it not worry everyone that Foote & Rutherford’s messaging on this issue was 12 hours apart and entirely different?

  8. They’re a mess defensively. It looks at times like they’re playing man defence but that’s tough to do in the NHL. Like really tough. It’s why you don’t see it above junior hockey but the shitty WHL coach on this team hasn’t figured that out yet.

    Patrick Roy had that same issue in Colorado. Kept trying to make them play man defence, coincidentally when Foote was his defence coach, and they were abysmal.

    The issue with man defence is that once you lose one assignment then everyone else has to scramble and cover basically.

  9. Canadians don’t make goalies like we use too. We need the French Goalies to make a come back. Start creating goalie schools. This is a national ducken crisis. Mark Carney balance the goals allowed balance the budget.

We have lost all defensive structure, this is worse than what caused them to can Bruce halfway through,  these guys have been given too many chances and the extra effort required to win is not there outside of Sherwood Garland hronek and Hughes.  That’s also why those are the names other teams are calling in on first.  It’s not the coach it’s not the goalie, it’s the talent and the effort or lack there of

  18. On paper we have a good defensive core. It really is astounding how our defensive system and especialy PK just leaks goals

  27. And we’re allowing less than our goals against expected, so if we had league average goaltending we’d be letting in like 10 more goals lol

    Fire the defensive coaching into the sun next season

  36. Remember when people said at the beginning of the year that our defence and goalies need to carry our weak offense and now we have league worst defensive numbers with 2 AHL goalies as our tandem 😂

  39. tell me honestly why you thought our defense would be better. I heard this from pundits all summer amd got downvoted to oblivion every time I said it would be one of the worst in the league.

    outside of Hughes, who on this team is a standout defenseman?
