Pittsburgh is definitely one of those markets
Yep. The penguins are ahead of the pirates. Penguins were on the cusp of leaving and the have a more modern facility. PNC park is a gem, but might not have the sort of corporate amenities that drive income. Same time though, the pirates are such a disgrace, it’s probably impossible to get much selling sponsorships.
You can’t be irrelevant, they got there on the cheap in 2013, and it is hard to stay competitive in baseball. But also, the playoff format has been expanded and now they are two years into having the best pitcher in baseball. Just an absolute joke.
You can complain about the Steelers’ recent struggles, but that team has some god damn pride. They are making renovations to the stadium to boost revenues, they don’t just mop about their market situation.
Eh, I wouldn’t worry about PNC. They’ll announce a major $300mm renovation project in the next year or two I’ll bet. It just happened in Baltimore, and watching both parks, Pittsburgh quite literally copies everything Baltimore does with the ballpark within two years and just edits out the thing or two that didn’t work.
PNC is still my favorite, but Oriole Park really is a great ballpark, and surprisingly less expensive than PNC.
