Edmonton Oilers BLOCKBUSTER TRADE INCOMING? | Skinner/Binnington NHL Trade Rumors
Previously on Dolly TV. Friends, we were talking about who’s that guy? Jordan Bennington. Welcome back to another edition of the channel. Glad to have you aboard here on Dolan TV. Tonight is the Edmonton Oilers. Well, now officially, according to Nick Ciprios, linked to Jordan Bennington and the St. Louis Blues in what very well could be a blockbuster deal happening. Well, you know, this 30-game mark December 9th against the Buffalo Savers is an important mark according to the sources Pierre Lebron has for the Evon Oilers. So, that’s saying, you know, things are going to start moving and despite, you know, anything that happens for Stuart Skinner. Full disclosure, this video is recorded before the game being posted postgame. No matter what happens for Skinner here, that is unlikely to quiet the questions around the crease in Edmonton. So today again we find ourselves discussing Jordan Bennington and a potential trade to the Edmonton Oilers. A little bit more of a title because you might be crying clickbait, but I can tell you there’s more to this mentioned by Nick Ciprios. The Oilers are looking a little bit deeper outside of just Jordan Bennington when it comes to the St. Louis Blues. Friends, right now if you are new to the channel, I’m going to hit you early and often here in the video to get this going. Consider hitting that subscribe button. would love to have you aboard to follow the Oilers, to follow what happens here as the season goes on. And by the way, coasting towards 20,000 subscribers here on Dolan TV. All right, let’s queue up the previously on graphic gone and dusted. Let’s get to Jordan Bennington and what was posted on sportsnet.ca tonight by well today, but I’m getting to it tonight by Nick Hippos and the Sportsnet team. So, Jordan Bennington, a trade target on the board, the 1.0 O board for Nick Ciprios this year. The St. Louis Blues goalender with a 55 and4 record, 313 goals against average and an 880 save percentage this season. And this is where it starts for us Oilers fans and the St. Louis Blues. We’ve been here before with Bennington and the Blues. In February of last year, we had five members of this team appear on the trade board, including the goalie when they were 27 26 and six, sixth in Central and five points out of a playoff spot. That was about 10 days before the trade deadline. But Armstrong said his players would determine how he approached trading and the team went 5-1 and one from the end of the Four Nations tournament highlighted by the goalending performance of Jordan Bennington to the deadline. So, he stood pat. In fact, St. Louis was the NHL’s best team from late February until the regular season ended with the 788 points percentage. Been there a very similar regular season turnaround to the one they had in 2018 2019 when Armstrong also came close to shaking up the roster. This season has been rough so far for St. Louis again. So the same speculation is kicking up. Statistically, Bennington has been one of the worst goalies in the league so far with an 880 save percentage and a 313 goals against average. Stuart Skinner. Um, and though 25-year-old Joe Holer hasn’t been better, he is seen as ready of a replacement as they will find. I’m adding some words and context there. Bennington’s 30 save two- win 2-1 win over the Islanders on Saturday was a reminder of how he can still get the job done and teams looking at him will take notice. Not to mention team Canada at the Olympics as we uh yeah I know Canada’s goalending is thin. I understand that. But Jordan Bennington is the best of the bunch right now and you just got to appreciate that for what it is. So we followed to why that article actually matters the next paragraph down just fitting it for sakes of size on the graphics. Bennington has one more season on his contract and the sense is he won’t be part of any retool the Blues might undergo. So where does that lead us? That leads us to the strongest speculation ties Bennington to Edmonton and that the Oilers are also seeing hence the blockbuster trade in the title friends not clickbait here if they can get a defenseman out of St. Louis at the same time. That potential deal would be most likely built around Stuart Skinner going back to St. Louis to team up with Hoffer. Hence the Oilers Nation video you saw earlier prior to tonight’s game. Friends, you’re coming to me with a followup here. So, let’s go to this. What do we know? The Blues Dmen. Well, this is a who’s who a who’s who in St. Louis. Uh Mayu Skinner, Kessle, Tucker, Pare, Broberg, Fowler, Faulk. That’s the eight they’ve been rolling this season. That’s who’s kind of factored in to their mix on the back end. Obviously, May is a guy they grabbed off of Montreal. They’re trying to make a deal work there. Skinner, Kessle, Tucker have kind of been regulars, I think, the past few years for the Blues and kind of guys that again aren’t going to move the needle for the Oilers unless they see something in the advanced analytics or scouting department that we absolutely can’t. So, that lands. Parejo, who again, how many times have we talked about Colton Perco possibly becoming an Edmonton Oiler? Philip Broberg, my goodness, how do we let that guy not being in be in Edmonton Oiler any longer by fumbling him to St. Louis? Cam Fowler, well, he’s got this big extension. He’s in St. Louis for a while. That’s Don’t worry about him. But Justin Faulk, what about that guy? Hey, that’s a that’s a name we’ll take a look at a little bit later on in the video if you stay tuned. So, make sure to do that here, friends, as we move forward to checking out the stats. I don’t make the Schneider comment about Stuart Skinner very lightly because honestly, look at these numbers. These are the last five years for each goalender. This is this year specifically for each goalender. And you can kind of see how things almost line up exactly. Stewie’s been a little bit better. I think everybody would say Jordan Bennington is a much better goalender than Stuart Skinner. The Blues have been worse than the Oilers. Despite the Oilers being as bad as they have been, Steuart Skinner is worse than Bennington, hence your numbers. Despite the career numbers, really 160 games separate these guys. But Bennington’s numbers are not really that relatively better. Save percentage better, goals against average worse. But in terms of everything kind of calculating in there, Bennington and Steuart Skinner are kind of the same goalender, right? They’ve got Yeah. Okay. I guess Bennington’s separated by about 50 wins losses there and Stewie is separated by 46. H that’s it’s all pretty much the same. Although I would say the caliber goalender, the big game clutch moment goalender is in favor of Jordan Bennington and that’s what I think any Oilers fan looking at Jordan Bennington being the solution for the Oilers as opposed to Stuart Skinner is there. The cap hit be damned. Well, that’s that’s I guess the easiest answer right there, but we’ll we’ll make do with that here as we continue along. So, the issue is if you’re looking to add two assets as the Oilers and specifically we’re looking at probably one of the top four D in St. Louis in this same deal, knowing that the Oilers are likely moving on from one of their D. And it’s probably Brett Kulak just saying in any deal that’s going to end up working out for the Oilers here given the fact that they’ve got this mess around with Emerson and uh Emerson and Rugula on the right side right now and you’d kind of like to slide Wman over to solve ease that and probably you know move Regula and Emerson into that 67 role wholeheartedly. Hence Justin Faulk you’re kind of starting to follow here. So the trade assets for the Oilers, if you’re looking at dollars to donuts and kind of value in the organization right now, you’ve got Stuart Skinner, Mongani is eating up cap space to be a minus 16 at this point. So uh that’s kind of where we’re at. I I think there would be some desire from the Oilers to move that cap hit given the complexity around a guy like Noo coming back, Kaepern coming back, and obviously where we’re at with trying to develop this next stage of the roster. It was a great idea from the Oilers. I don’t think it’s going to pan out and if it does, color me surprised and that’s awesome for us. But Mongani likely just in a cap crunch world to be a part of this. I know there’s clauses and stuff potentially involved. We’re not going to worry about that right now. We’re looking at pure cap dollars making things work. And you know that where there’s a will, there’s a way. And Stan Bowman may be a little bit more willful than once upon a time Ken Holland was for the Evonoers. Trust me, when I get out of this video, I think I’m going to come back with the squirrel helmet on. If you’ve watched the channel long enough, you know where I’m going with that. But Bret Koulak, simply put, if you’re adding a Dman, you got to subtract a Dman. And subtracting is all really Brett Kulak’s done from some standpoints this season. So, you know, moving on from him and moving his cap hip might not be the worst thing in the world. Nan Hopkins, again, this is not a this is a point per game forward who’s been injured this year and is a heart and soul guy of the Oilers. The only pure reason he is mentioned here is cap hit. There is nothing else. No inkling, no guess, no I want him gone. None of not none of that. None of that whatsoever. It just simply has to do with Cap Hit. And if you’re big bringing in big assets, you got to move big assets. Quinn Hudson down on the farm. I think that’s another name you got to look for. If the Blues are looking for some prospect value for, you know, or Pareco, uh, you know, if Broberg’s coming back, you’re going to have to give up some big assets. I’m sure Doug Armstrong is not going to move back from that. I can tell you almost with certainty Broberg’s not coming back, but if he is, there’s potential that you’re going to have to give up some big names. I think Villami Marhala, after kind of fading out from being drafted by the Sabres, coming back to North America this year, might uh might be generating some interest and might be a keep key piece of some kind of trade in the Oilers organization. I think the Oilers would also love to keep Marhala around as much as possible. Boe again, you’re giving up a Dman to get a more tenure DMAT. Maybe there’s a possibility you’re moving on from Boi as the Oilers have done from so many high draft picks over the past several years. Hate to hear that coming out of my mouth because I’m a big Boeing believer. Again, a guy that likely will replace Regula long term. And then Jansen as well. If the Blues are like, “We want Skinner. We want some prospects, but we really don’t think Skinner is going to be the long-term solution here. We just need him this year.” Uh, they’ll take Jansson in a heartbeat. And the Oilers would willingly give away their best goalending prospect in years. I am almost 100% convinced because that’s just the way the Oilers tend to do business in bigname deals. So, that’s where you’re at, right? That’s where we’re at. That’s kind of a recap of everything kind of going on there. So now we look at Justin Faulk, the name that I want to take a look at the most here on the list of Blues Deb just because Philip Broberg’s unrealistic. And you know what? If Doug Armstrong’s had this brain wave that he’s got to get value back for Broberg uh from the Oilers and that’s all going to work out and he doesn’t want what whatever is happening there ain’t happening. So I can shut up about it. But Justin Faulk anyway, let’s not get distracted here. leading the Blues in points entering tonight. There’s a three-way tie, I believe, at the top of the Blues leaderboard. Uh he’s playing 23 minutes and 23 seconds a night. So, you kind of start to see here, right hand shot Dman, how this starts to make sense and how the Blues and Oilers could really work something for a guy that could, you know, possibly have that uh Duncan Keith kind of impact. So, again, previously on we talked about Jordan Bennington. Now we’re talking about Jordan Bennington and a Dman. So that’s kind of where we wrap up to go here to now Justin Faulk and why this gets so complicated. There it is. 6’0, 33y old defenseman. Just what everybody wants the Oilers defense to get even older. Uh right-hand shot, 28 lb, and a $6.5 million cap hit. So, you’re talking about you’re talking about $10 million plus in salary that the Oilers either have to somehow get the Blues to somewhat retain on their side, right? Retain a little bit, go out there and uh, you know, hold on two contracts for two years, well, I guess a year and a half, even if he had a million and a half, you know, a million each contract, 2 million, that starts biting it down. But that’s why Nudge was in there. That’s why Kulak and Miy are in there. And obviously Steuart Skinner’s only $2.6 million of that. So starts to chew it up quite a bit if you’re looking at the value of the contracts and what the Oilers have to do. Now the Blues obviously if they burn it to the studs like the Calgary Flames should be doing right now. Um that would be a whole another aspect where you know they might be willing to eat $2 million on Faulk and 1.75 on Bennington and then there you go. But there’s way too much again. I almost feel like the talking about Bennington as an idea back in the early fall there was easier to do than talking about it as a legitimate thing now because there’s too much extrapolation that has to happen now that it’s a legit thing for it to happen even though it’s a legit rumor standing actual idea within the NHL community. So we’ll see what happens here. Obviously, the Dman will be a very interesting move. And if the Oilers are just looking to upgrade on, you know, Emerson or Regula slightly with one of the Blues bottom four defenders, now maybe we’re talking something different here in terms of cap space, who has to move, the names we’re talking about, and what exactly is going to happen with this Edmonton Oilers team. So, friends, that is where I’m going to cut it. I hope you enjoyed the game tonight. I hope the Oilers won. We’ll be talking about it in the morning. I’ll be watching at the bar tonight, taking uh you know Matt from the playoff running in 24. Him and I are hitting up the bar tonight and going out there and watching the Oilers hopefully beat the Dallas Stars. If you’re new to the channel, friends, consider hitting that subscribe button as I said off the top. But for right now, as the furnace kicks out, I am up on out of here.
The Edmonton Oilers and St. Louis Blues may be discussing the idea of a swap for Jordan Binnington and Stuart Skinner. While it might be slightly more than just commentary for now, pay attention to this NHL Trade Rumor!

VIDEO RECORDED AN HOUR BEFORE THE STARS GAME, PLAN WAS TO RELEASE POST GAME, THEN SKINNER JUST IMPLODES. cool cool
Bushy and skinner for Jordan Bennington
Yeah The Oilers Have To Get A New Goalie
somebody should tell STU that little rubber black thing is called a puck, just stop it!
Yes please, Binnington comes and Skinner goes! I don’t even know what to say anymore. Skinner just hasn’t shown up when it matters most. Every key game turns into the same story…soft goals, no confidence, no rebound control. It’s painful to watch…Pickard is way better than Skinner
Look at the game tonight , the arena was silent!! Swiss cheese skinner got lit up 4-0 ffs!! Pickard didn’t fare all too well either, this team isn’t making the playoffs.
The problem is, players like Nuge and Mangiapane have no move/trade clauses. Unless they are willing to waive, we may not see Binnington until next season when the cap goes up. I suppose Mangiapane's no trade clause could be circumvented by placing him on waivers but I think Ingram is going to get a look before any big trade is put together. The latest reports are saying he is improving in Bakersfield so maybe he might get a callup sooner than later.
8-3 lol both can go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd trade Skinner for a bag of pucks at this point.
Seems like locker room is dead either way
Lets go huge…Draisaitl and Skinner for Parayko Buchnevich and Binner
Both Binner and Skinner need a change of scenery.
I doubt anything comes of this
There is no NHL team that would take Skinner. I don’t think there would be an AHL team that would take him.
Skinner a 500 % save average pickard 810 yikes lose 7-3
Didn't you just say the other day when talking about Knoblauch that we would be here in a few days talking about Skinner/Pickard/Goalies? It feels like Groundhog Day!
Binnington is not the answer but stu stinks can't stop a pass through the crease
Why would we trade for a goalie past his prime and already won a cup? Skinner is only 25 and just getting started what we need is patient and more concentrations in clinching games when we do get there as we have for the past two seasons. There's really nothing wrong with our goalies it's not like we've been missing playoffs with them, that's two finals in a row.
Alright in all seriousness, please DO NOT GIVE UP JONSSON! He is your goaltender for the future. You need to keep him so that way he can eventually come up as your mainstay Veznia caliber goaltender. Binnington is a short term solution for while McDavid is here. Jonsson is your long term future Veznia caliber goaltender.
I am beginning to believe some of the rumors about the team with regards to McDavid. Many believe he has a death grip on certain players he sees as friends and management knows if they try to bench them or trade them he will have none of it
If Skinner & Pickard had a good defence in front of them they would have better records 🤯👌👍
Trade both in a combo deal for some tape and bag of pucks.
