Rich Eisen Reacts to Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers Update & Another Classic Mike Tomlin Press Conference

Let’s get an update on Aaron Rogers. We keep talking about, you know, uh there’s great ball talk with Schlareith about what do you want to see in the final six weeks of the season? And I said, who started well can actually finish and the Ravens have and who didn’t start well, how can they finish? The Ravens have caught the Steelers. The reason why they are the four seed and the Steelers are the eight seed right now is because the Ravens are undefeated. They’ve beaten Cleveland twice in division and the um Steelers are two- one in division. That’s just the reason why it is what it is right now. Obviously, they have to finish the schedule. And next up on the schedule for the Steelers are the Bills. That’s a 78 game. That is big. That is just massive cuz which team that is the habitual uh perennial AFC contenders? The Bills, the Chiefs, the Ravens, the Texans. I think I just named you the final four most of the AFC years, right, of recent days. And which one of those are going to make it? Which one of those are going to fall off? And is Aaron Rogers going to play this weekend? What does it look like the top of this week after Rogers sat there and watched his team go against the Bears and Soldier Phil? That had a just that just gut Aaron Rogers that he couldn’t play. Um Tomlin had this to say about Rogers readiness for this game this week. Aaron obviously, man, worked his tail off to get to us last week, but as I mentioned over the course of the weekend, it was a a prudent and appropriate decision. Um, we’ll we’ll we’ll start this week with great optimism, although we certainly will limit him at the early portions of the week, provide opportunities for the other quarterbacks while preserving him and and but again, um, we’re comfortable with the general trajectory. Um, but I’ll keep you updated and his level of participation and the quality of his participation over the course of the week would be a be the greatest indicator. All right, that’s um Tomlin speak for We don’t know. Pretty much. Yeah. You know, well, how can he know? I mean, he’s a 40 pushing 41y old guy with a a break in his non-throwing hand. Yeah, that’s what TJ and I were talking about pre-show. It’s like him sitting out last week was kind of a no-brainer. Something like that. If you just fall funny and yes, you know, it’s broken and you’re out for the season and maybe your career’s over. Like why risk it just to play against the Bears? Like I mean not just play against the Bears for some record that doesn’t mean anything to a Steeler fan. Yeah. So and Rudolph almost pulled it off too. Yeah. Yeah. Although there was one moment that I think everybody’s seen on their socials, right, where Rogers was caught on the sideline seeing that they were wrong and they were lined up in the wrong formation and you could see he was put his hands on his head like you’re in the wrong formation and in fact they were called for illegal formation which is why you want Rogers out there with all due respect. I mean he’s neck up one of the greatest ever and he’s still as sharp as ever. Neck up he would sit there. He’s seeing from the sideline you’re in an illegal formation. You would definitely know that standing from shotgun. So, if they can have him out there, that would be great. Rogers versus Allen. That’s the stuff we want to see, man. We just want to see it. Y, you know, that’s um what? That’s four five MVP trophies on the same field. Correct. I got that right, didn’t I? Five. Yep. Right. So, um now I lose track of the number Rogers has. It’s four. Right. So, uh, that’s and by the way, somebody also in the press conference had the temerity to go, uh, deep X’s and O’s with Mike Tomlin. Uh, we have a new drop. I think you’ll notice the the voice, with all due respect to our longtime Rich Eisen show, um, uh, voice, we we told Chaz to this one where we got O’Shea Jackson Jr., the new drop for this terrific straight out of Tomlin moment. You are now about to witness the strength of street knowledge. That kicker is a serial killer straight out of Tomlin. In the situation of the the 25 yard more touchdown we ran up the scene against you guys. It was trips right four verticals. Is that a situation where you have to check out of the cover three zone or I am not going to peel back the layers of how we function from a schematic standpoint. Although I am impressed by the depths of your question straight out of Tomlin. First off, fantastic O’Shea obviously. Well, you guys had that thought, right? Like you got to get him. The first time I heard it, I was like, maybe he was like, maybe we should we should have maybe we should upgrade. I mean, he was coming in that day and I was like, we might as well. I love the way Tomlin puts things. Uh he could be a a military general like in a movie or something just the way he speaks and he would nail the role without a doubt with the language and the and the verbiage. Like again the line from Full Metal Jacket. What is your major malfunction? Num nuts. Yeah, perfect. Without the numbnuts. No, he could probably be a drill sergeant. I I’m sure he would have nailed that part as well. Just like but I appreciate I’m sure he can creative. That was funny. God, I do love Obviously, you could have been a poet laurette like Tom. It’s still time, right? It’s still time. Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that. Check us out every single day streaming live on Disney Plus and the ESPN app 12 to 3 Eastern.

  1. Mike Tomlin is not a great coach. He's good at jive and clichés and overall a good guy. But a mediocre coach who needs to be fired or traded.

  2. The reason to let Rodgers play was that they REALLY needed that game! They were one game ahead of the Ravens, and they dropped it Sunday. And, honestly, I cannot see how Rodgers does not win that game. Mason had TWO chances to tie or win the game in crunch time, and he did not get it done. That ball he threw for an int. was crazy because the back was blanketed on Dk. That was an int waiting to happen and the bears turned it into 7 points, so a 14 point turnaround. Then there is the sack where he did NOT protect the ball. In 4 quarters Mason led us to 2 scoring drives, and nothing else. We had 28, but 7 came from the D sack in the end zone, and the other from the trick tush-push play. Not playing Rodgers could have cost us the division.

  3. Tomlin needs to stop living in his fears. He has collapsed almost every year since 2018. His team BETTER show up sunday AT HOME in a must win game otherwise this has to be his last year. Also if they lose im considering tanking. Throw Will Howard in there and tank for a top tier draft pick and completely rebuild.

  4. Waaa waaaaa… the biggest problem we have here is that your all Steelers fan to begin with, thats bad enough. Now go cry on mommies shoulder and boo hoo somewhere else.

  5. I looked it up, because I remember thinking Tomlin was unqualified as a head coach. As a defensive coordinator, take a guess where the Minnesota Vikings were defensively… 1st against the rush, last against the pass. Coincidence?

  6. I know y'all Steelers fans are fed up and have had enough. Just be careful what you wish for. After being 'fed up' with Lovie Smith 'only winning 10 games', we had a whole decade-long chain of fools. – Sincerely, Bears nation.

  7. Tomlin has been a good football coach, and i understand the Steelers like to say they have only had what is it, like 3 Head Coaches in like 55+ years??? But at some point though, a change of scenery is good, and Tomlin probably should have been gone like 5 years ago. When is simply going 9-7 or now 9-8 not good enough. On an extra note, Tomlin sucks at dealing with the QB position. He can obviously thank Big Ben and co. for his super bowl victory, but enough is enough

  8. Last loss killed us, out of the playoffs and we play the bills next who usually kill us and the ravens already played all their tough games. NFL is probably rigged. Lamar Superbowl this year. Why did we draft Edmunds instead of Lamar!?

  9. Arron Rodgers is 42yo this December — He snubbed the Steelers and didn't sign to the last minute — he's guaranteed $10MM and the Steelers are lucky that they got 5 game out of him — not a bad gig — ~$2million/per game. It literally makes me sick that Rodgers is in a Steelers uniform and yet on a few of those wins, he was the only one trying to win, As far Tomlin, "The standard is the standard". – I call BULLSHIT – if this guy was white, he would've been fired years ago — he'll go down like Bellichick — fawned over and then NO ONE WANTED HIM when he left the Patriots — and SPEAK FOR YOURSELF — Eisen — I don't want EVER see RODGERS in a Steeler uniform again, GO AWAY

  10. He stated quarter back singular WTF has he forgotten about Will Howard, sometimes I wonder where Tomlin's head is you have two backups your a confused individual Tomlin just like against the bears on the last drive you didn't even have Jalen Warren in or Mt Washington what are you coaches thinking or your not thinking you idiots Steelers had over a 150 yards rushing and you desert the running game yeah if it's shut down but I swear you coaches have a deal with Rodger goodell to destroy the Steelers, to me it sure seems that way how else could y'all make stupifying play calls I swear all you coaches are sabators, and the only reason your a head Coach in the NFL is because of the Rooney rule seems to me you would make better coaching decisions and feel indebted because of this rule and the reason and only reason your living like a king and have the nicest of things and you're family in life because of a rule not because of your football IQ and that a fact real talk ,you better run the table and head into the playoffs on a 6 game winning streak, what's that you say and my reply is something you know nothing about winning streaks, win one lose one that's the only way I believe you won't lose your job so get it together and show some gratitude to the organization and the Man who made you and gave you fat pockets remember gratitude!

  11. "Another Classic Mike Tomlin Press Conference"??? How about another classic playoff win? How about looking like a team that has a system that isn't outdated by about 15 years? How about a secondary that doesn't let receivers run through it wild and free? How about a run defense that doesn't get push back off the ball three yards? Eisen is always all about Tomlin, forgetting about the team.

  12. Did Aaron Rodgers not challenge a play where the Steelers clearly had a first down? Did Rodgers opt to punt on 4th down at the end of the game? No, those were Tomlin's decisions. Let's be honest about where the problem lies, it ain't the QB.

  13. Tomlin should've been out before Ben left…. How can you have the most explosive offensive players through the years and never get anywhere. It's just old…. it's been old. This is the first time in my 54yr life I HATE being a Steelers fan….that includes the Mark Malone years.

  14. Yeah that tomlin quote was hilarious!

What wasn’t hilarious is the highest paid defense in the league being incapable of making a high school adjustment to a basic offensive formation – which is the root of the question he ducked.

  15. Rodgers has played like someone disapponted in where he's landed. Tomlin may be a great builder of character but his overcontrol of the coaching staff breeds mediocracy. As a fan, I'm going on imjured reserve until something changes. My time is worth more than mediocracy.

  16. Fantastic? The reporter actually asked a great question… Tomlin I don’t think knew the answer… But whatever anyone that knows football knows it was HORRIBLE COACHING
