  1. Soooo, what happened to retiring? And if this role is technically considered a consultant role or some other “retirement” exception, why didn’t we do the same?

I totally might be missing something but this raises A LOT of questions for me about what’s going on in the FO.

  2. This is bad regardless of whether or not he’s managing.

Our franchise has been dysfunctional since Papa Pete passed away. You cant deny AJs ability to find talent and to build a team but for whatever reason we can’t keep anyone on our staff.

A team that is vying for a world series and pushing all the chips going all in should not be hiring their 4th manager in 5 years.

  3. He just wanted out of SD. More happening in that dugout with players or coaches. Too professional to air the toxicity or lack of motivating some of that top talent.

  4. So he retired from the Padres to take a job in radio shortly followed by a stint with Baltimore???

  5. I don’t understand why people are acting bamboozled by this. He straight up said he wanted to go back to a player development role.

  6. This isn’t at all embarrassing for the org. Shildt gave up a guaranteed $4m. That’s on him. Org by all accounts wanted him back

  7. At some point you all have to stop vilifying the coaches that leave this team and start pointing the finger at the org itself. Something is rotten on the inside.
