Poll: Will The Pirates Make A Splash In Free Agency?

You mean like a splash from a puddle?
The only splash Cherington will make is when he pisses himself.
Stop it… just stop… this isn’t anything except moving money around. in the end, no matter what happens they will still be right around the same as most years for payroll. I don’t understand how anyone doesn’t see this. It’s a shell game. It’s sad and people are happy and excited. I work with budgets all day and this is nothing but take it from one bucket and move it to another bucket and then say…. look we spent money!!!! FFS this is so sad. plus with this time next year being the end of MLB for a bit, no one is going to do crap with this team. Bob is just hoping he can get through this year without the pitchforks coming out or losing Skenes.
They will, if you consider a 1 year, $5 Million contract to Max Kepler a “splash”.
The PR campaign to make the Pirates sound like they’re going to actually do something has been going full blast for the past week, or so.
We’ve been here before, many, many times. We all know how this goes.
Need to define splash.
I fully expect that we will make one signing over 10 million annual, and if Keller is traded then I expect two signings over 10 million. I don’t view that as making a splash though. I view that as the bare minimum.
In no event would I expect any signings over 20 million, or a third signing over ten million. So to me – that would be a splash.
No.
I think they do. I just think people aren’t getting fully where the pressure is coming from.
The pirates are generating bad press for the league and its owners. The league is about to initiate a lockout in a likely tense labor dispute with the players. Media coverage and public perception is important. I know we like to poo poo that, but the league earns money through the public paying to go to games and from broadcasters paying to air the games to people. So the league office and the other owners can influence what teams do. And we have Bettman on cnbc gloating about how their franchise valuations beat mlb.
The pirates have no excuse, if the penguins can be 30% more valuable than the pirates, that the organization being a joke. This is really comically pathetic.
And this is 100% because of Skenes. His presence is highlighting their incompetence and their inaction.
No
They’ll sign the cheapest veterans they can find, shrug their shoulders and say “we tried”
My girl splashes more when I finger her than whatever the fuck Bobby Nutting-In-His-Ass will do this offseason.
I hope so. And they need to keep skenes happy
No
Only the splash that would be heard in a toilet after eating Taco Bell
No. They won’t spend money
Are you new here? No.
I’ll keep saying this, I’ll believe it when i see it. Until then I’m gonna assume it’s bullshit. I don’t care about what nutting/cherington say or the CBA mental gymnastics until something actually happens for the first time ever
Eventually they will sign someone but reality is even if they are willing to spend they have to have people willing to come.. and no one see the Pirates as an attractive destination
No. Next question.
Of course they won’t.
“The Pirates will sign a deal worth more than $100MM, surpassing the Reynolds deal for the franchise record 5.47% (281 votes) “
I can’t believe that there are 281 people that are that gullible. No way that many people are actually falling for this publicity stunt
Nope
Even if somehow they make the playoffs they won’t beat dodgers just too powerful
Right after the Steelers fire Tomlin
Spash, no. Better than last year, yes (but that’s really not hard to do).
Unless Nutting is a total idiot (which is entirely possible … his wealth was inherited) he has to realize that making some effort in what is likely Skenes’ last year in the black-and-gold will pay dividends for years to come. Generate some excitement now and those fans will keep coming back even after you return to sucking!
Hahahahaaaaaa
They will put on a good show and make a lot noise, but in the end there will be no impact.
