This FINALLY happened in game…

Well, it finally happened. Let’s cut to Minnesota Carolina third period. Matt Zukarelloo and just watch. This is Matt Zukarella’s coveted put the controller down for a second deak. And by dee I mean nothing at all. He holds the puck, waits to see how the goaler reacts, then shoots. This, however, is the first time I’ve actually seen him pull this off in game, which makes sense. You need to have a bit of distance on the breakaway, but it’s the move he uses almost every single time in the shootout. And it works. If you go to nhl.com and their statistics, you look at shootout percentage for those who have taken at least 30 shots, Matt Zukarelloo is right at number six with 44.7%. Number one, by the way, the bread man for New York, 60.5%. But Zukarelloo is one of my favorite NHL players, period. He flies way under the radar. And yeah, that is a height joke, but it’s hard to believe the man is 38 years old. He’s only just started playing this season. He’s got six points in six games. You know, he’s been consistently slightly under a point a game player for most of his career. I just I love what he brings to every team. I love his energy and his tenacity. God, I wish he were still on the Rangers. It absolutely broke my heart when he left. I’m not joking. Maybe the trade I took the hardest as a Rangers fan. By the way, we got two picks for him. They didn’t work out, but whatever. Funny enough, Zukerello didn’t actually score in the shootout, which this game did need. He did, however, get an assist on the first goal after Brock Faber redirected one of his shots on net. Matt Baldy would then score short-handed, eight minutes left in the first after a Sebastian AO giveaway, which definitely had Rod the Bod screaming. Jackson Blake then got one in the second. The third started with that Zukarelloo goal before Sebastian Ao brought it to within one. Then Joxen Blake got his second of the game on a tippetin. Anyway, here’s a question. Who’s your favorite Matt Zukarelloo type player? A player known by fans of their team, but maybe not as widely across the NHL. Not a superstar, but a real solid career NHL guy who puts up points. Or if they’re defensive, maybe who doesn’t. But anyway, who’s your Matt Zukarelloo? Please let me know down below. Oh, and hey, I’ll see you next

We need to talk about Mats Zucarello as we recap the Carolina Hurricanes and the Minnesota Wild! All that and more on today’s NHL hockey video

  1. I'm a Stars fan. . .I was really bummed when I found out we couldn't sign him. Everyone here was kinda under the impression he was gonna sign, the Stars don't typically trade for 'rental' players. And you're definitely right, he has been one of the most underrated players his entire career. He would make every team in the NHL better.

  2. Kings fan here, very glad I was wearing my Phillip Danault jersey while watching this video. Not a dynamic scorer but an incredible leader and can play on any line and elevate those around him

  3. Nic dowd is one of if not THE most underrated 4th liners if not players in the league. Dude is an absolute animal. He may not get many points but he produces chances and goals all game

  4. Is it only me, or do you get the same vibes from Kucherov, I know he might be a step above in athleticism, but otherwise in my opinion quite similar players; or am I totally off?

  5. For the Canes, gotta be Jordan Martinook. Sits on the 3rd line, gets a decent number of points for what he's asked to do but he's the energizer in the locker room and sideline and the grinder on the ice. Heavily involved in every play he's on the ice for.
