“We Need To Stay Level Headed” | Tage Thompson After Loss To Calgary Flames | Buffalo Sabres

Did you work to get back into the game in the second period? Uh give up three goals in the first half to the third half. Yeah. Um in the first um way too casual. Thought uh they were hungrier for loose pucks and um just flat out won more puck battles. Um, I thought all game we were pretty sloppy with the puck when we did have it, especially through the neutral zone, trying to force stuff and um, just fed their transition and um, I thought obviously we we claw our ways back claw our way back into the game and um, you know, but I think for for most of the game there, they they really uh, they control the momentum. I think our power play was too too perimeter. Um, not urgent enough to get pucks and and bodies to the net. Um, like I said, just some sloppy puck plays all all night long. Um, thought we were disconnected. So, all around just brutal one. So, um, just got to shake that and move on. Um, no time to dwell on it. Play Friday. Um, big two points out. So, Tage, we’ve seen obviously pockets of good play from this team this year, but how do you account for St. Louis in this game? Um, yeah, I mean, I’ll speak on this game. Um, but just I think get a little too high on ourselves after a couple wins. I think we’re better than we are. Um, instead of remembering what what got us um, you know, those wins and thought, you know, looking back at uh, the other game against Edmonson, I thought we were really hard to play against. I thought today we were really easy, really light on the puck and um, you know, anytime you’re doing that, you’re you’re going to lose games. You uh, got called for goalender interference. It looked see looked to me like the goender got set afterwards. um it was set for the shot. How did you see that play? Yeah, you and me both. I thought that was a horrible call. It’s a call to go on the ice and um I think there’s minimal contact there um if any. Um and then I think he’s squared to the shot for a good two two three seconds and um you know Doll’s shot goes bar down so it’s not like it’s into the middle of the net. He can’t you know react to make a save. He’s squared with the whole time. But um stuff that’s out of your control. Um I think the the main focus there is um we didn’t control things that um were within our control tonight and that’s puck battles and and intensity. I just think we went into to every one-on-one battle just casual, just soft. Did Carter give you any insight about that at the TV timeout when you were talking to him? Yeah, I mean he said he made the call on the ice and he thought it was a goal and obviously uh Toronto thought otherwise. City high that’s something that going on for a long time. Why can’t you guys shape that? It’s a good question. Any idea why? I think uh with anything you feel good about yourself, you forget um you know the habits and the details that that got you the results. I think sometimes that gets lost when you look at results. I mean even when you lose if you’re playing the right way um and and you lose, you try to change things. Um I think you just got to stick with, you know, the game of hockey. I think um doesn’t matter who you’re playing. Um you can win on any given night, you can lose on any given night. doesn’t matter who you’re lining up across. So, I think it was just a lack of respect for the game of hockey. Um, thinking you’re just going to go out there casual and the puck’s just going to find you and it’s not the case.

  1. Too inconsistent especially the first line. Power play not good and personal changes needed. Again soft along boards and in front of net. Power so so soft in defense zone. GM needs to be fired
