MAJOR Knicks Trade Update – Report Reveals NEW Target…

We have a major Knicks trade update to go over today as a report has revealed a new target for this New York Knicks team as there is a clear need that the Knicks have right now that has not been answered and we also know what the trade package would look like on top of that. There’s a whole lot to go over on the Knicks guys and we’re going to waste no time jumping right into things as usual. But real quick, if you are part of that 56% that’s not subscribed to Nick’s Digest, make sure to subscribe so you do not miss a single Knicks update. We have videos coming out every single day on the Knicks that you don’t want to miss out on. But that’s not really what we’re here to talk about at all. We’re here to talk about the Knicks. We’re here to talk about what this team needs to do. We’re here to talk about some of the issues the Knicks have. And there have been issues. The Knicks so far, they are not perfect. Yes, they’re good. They look like a true contender. And there’s definitely areas where they look like one of the best teams in basketball. However, there’s also areas where they don’t, things that are not working as well as we hoped as of right now and things that the Knicks ultimately are going to have to fix when we consider just this entire season and how long it is and how much the Knicks are going to have to adjust throughout the year. And Mike Brown even recently just talked about one of these things that has really been hurting the Knicks and sort of alluded to the fact that Leon Rose should go out there and make some sort of a move that will help this team. And this was discussed a lot as Dan Favll of Daily Nicks mentioned that when filtering out garbage time, the Knicks are so far allowing opponents to shoot 39.6% on threes. That is the third worst mark in the league. Rival offenses are also launching at will against them. Over 42% of opponents looks are coming from behind the arc and the NBA’s fourth highest share. So with that in mind, there definitely is some situations that the Knicks are going to have to fix. There’s going to be things that they have to get better at, specifically defending the three ball. Mike Brown’s made it very clear that he wants the defense to start in the paint. That’s where he really wants the Knicks to lock down because if they lock down the paint, everything else will sort of fall into place. That’s the way that he views it and that’s fine. Though at the same time, it is evidently clear that the Knicks are going to have to just do better at defense overall. Obviously, the defense is way better when Mitchell Robinson plays. And as Mitch gets ramped up, we’ll see him play more and more and that’ll help because there won’t have to be as much help in the paint because with Mitch there, they can kind of just let Mitch Cook down there in some aspect of it. So, that’ll be helpful. However, the Knicks, they do need to contest threes a lot better. It’s something that is going to have to happen because they have been the victim of teams lighting it up. I mean, against the Orlando Magic, who aren’t a good three-point shooting team, the Knicks effectively let the Magic shoot, and they the Magic did hit enough threes to where it was one of the big reasons why the Knicks would ultimately end up losing that game and losing their home win streak as well. So, with all that in mind, it does make sense. And the Knicks, they have been poised for the perfect trade candidate for this team to solve a bunch of issues as we could see right here. And it’s also a native New Yorker in Jose Alvarado. Now, Favll mentioned from Mike Brown that well, we have to do a better job of guarding the ball. Now, teams are probably going to shoot a lot of threes against us because we’re trying to protect the paint, but hopefully we can get to a point where our closeouts are more impactful, and it starts with guarding the basketball. And Favll mentions that Duce McBride is by far New York’s best point of attack defender. Anobi and Muel Bridges can handle the same responsibility in a pinch, but not without the Knicks surrendering ground elsewhere. Enter Alvarado. Though he’s listed at just six feet tall, he’s among the NBA’s hardest to escape defenders. He’s ranked no lower than the 84th percentile in screen navigation for each of the last three years according to Basketball Index. And the 27-year-old’s impact is felt even in the shortest of bursts. His role in the New Orleans Pelicans has waxed and waned ever since he made his debut in the 2021-22 season. And yet, the halfcourt defense has dramatically improved with him on the court each and every season. So when you look at all that and understand what Alvarado brings to the table, he does become an interesting trade candidate for a Knicks team that also could use more ball handling. Now on the season, Alvarado is playing around 20 minutes per game with New Orleans, putting up 7.6 points per game, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. He’s getting a steal a night, and he’s shooting 39% from three this season and 42% from the field. This is also a pretty decent clip of threes with 63% of his shots coming from behind the arc. He gives the Knicks another ball handler, something that they really, really are looking like it would not hurt to have on this team while giving them another point of attack defender. Obviously, Michaela Bridges and OG are excellent defenders. Nobody’s saying they’re not, but neither one of them is really a point of attack defender. That’s not where they’re both at their best. They’re both at their best in team oriented defensive schemes. Specifically, Bridges OG can kind of just transcend and play wherever, but male is a team defender. He likes to get in there and his help defense is some of his best weaponry in the entire NBA. It might be what he’s best at in all of basketball when you look at all his individual skills at the most is it the most important? You tell me. But at the same time, he’s really like he’s not exactly a point of attack guy. He can do it, but Deuce is the best at it. And adding on José Alvarado gives another guard who can be a point of attack defender and facilitate the ball and be a lead ball handler when Jaylen Brunson’s off the floor. All these reasons make Jose Alvarado an excellent trade candidate for the Knicks, especially considering that his contract is up after this season. So, it’s not like they’d be tied to a ton of money with him with the apron being a whole situation there. Now, in the playoffs, Alvarado has appeared in twice and he’s played a total of 10 games where in that point in his career, he’s put up five and a half points, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 rebounds while also getting 1.2 steals per game on his career in the playoffs with both seasons backto-back doing that. He’s looked good. I mean, the shooting wasn’t good the second time around, but has been a rotational player for playoff teams. He’s from New York. He knows a lot of players on the Knicks. It is a fit that makes a whole lot of sense for this team. Now, right now, his defense has certainly been good as well when you look at the defensive playmaking and perimeter ISO defense. We see that Jos Alvarado’s kind of around the middle there near and I mean in good name the in good in good name with good names right there with Marcus Smart and Jaylen Williams both being right there next to Alvarado as well from last season. So when we understand that he does become a very interesting guy for the Knicks to trade for again the Knicks could use more of this and also having another facilitator won’t hurt as well. The question is what does the price come down to? Is it really going to be worth going for Alvarado? Well, that’s what you guys have to also try to answer because Favville mentions that it doesn’t take much effort to list off higherend options than Alvarado, but we have to be realistic. The Knicks are right up against that second apron, which means they effectively can’t take back more salary than they send out, especially because they’re over the first apron, and you can’t do that in the case of the first apron. They also have zero first round picks to trade with so few assets in the clip. Even targeting one of the Memphis Grizzlies non non-Jant guards could prove to be too ambitious. Alvarado should be more in line with what New York can offer between second round picks Tyler Kolic and Pakome Dier. It can build a package that should get the currently spiraling on the verge of a tear down Pelicans thinking and that is a huge point to understand here. Now Brett Seigel did mention multiple teams have expressed interest in Jose Alvarado through the years. In the third year guard Jordan Hawkins is a player who is yet to really solidify himself as a go-to option on the Pelicans bench since being drafted 14th overall. This gives the Pelicans another chance to try to work with Hawkins while sending off Alvarado for some value. The Knicks here do get José Alvarado and yeah, it’ll likely cost one of Piccom Dier or Tyler Kolic if not both of them which then the Knicks would have to sort of supplant that by adding another player onto their team which they would be able to do through one of the two-way contracts which would probably be Tosan Ama but at the same time I wouldn’t be shocked if they also try to sign someone maybe Jon as well makes some sense or McCulla. The Knicks like McCull a lot for their future. So signing the young McCuller could make some sense. And then the Knicks would definitely use other two-way contract on Dink Pate as well, who has shown some promise with the Knicks organization. And we will talk about Dink Pate more further on down the line because I know that a lot of people do want to hear some updates on him. So I’ll make sure to get on to that and give you guys all the updates you could possibly want. Now with Dier and and Kolic, I mean Dier’s appeared in one Westchester Knicks game this year. Him and Mohamd Diara both went down, each put up 15 points in that game. Dier shown some solid basketball throughout this really one year and one game with the Westchester Knicks as of last year, but both him and Kolic are yet to really establish themselves doing anything as far as just basically playing in NBA games go. I mean, they haven’t really appeared in much throughout their careers. I mean, Kick when he went down to the to the G-League was tearing it up, but was really just there for the showcase. So, it does make sense for the Knicks to sort of have to navigate this route. Are they gonna be willing to trade Tyler Kick for José Alvarado? You tell me. What do you guys think? 1. Knicks Digest likes to waste peoples time by making videos about trades that aren't financially possible for the Knicks. It's going to take more than Dadiet and or Kolek to get Alvarado. Read this carefully. The reality is that the Knicks can't easily trade for Jose Alvarado unless they want to trade out McBride, Robinson or Hart. A trade of Pacome Dadiet or Tyler Kolek straight up for Alvarado doesn't work on the Knicks current cap sheet because either of those deals will put the Knicks over the second apron. Alvarado makes 4.5 million. Dadiet makes 2.8 million. Kolek makes 2.1 million. The Knicks are currently only a few hundred thousand dollars below the second apron hard cap. Also remember that all NBA teams are required to roster 14 players except for short periods of time. If the Knicks try to trade Dadiet and Kolek both for Alvarado, the matching of salaries works, however, the Knicks won't be left with enough money under the hard cap to get the roster back to 14. The Knicks can't trade two players for one unless there will be enough money left over to sign someone else to a vet min deal to get the roster back to 14. Also remember the roster has to be at 15 by the last day of the regular season. If the Knicks want Alvarado, they might want to consider ripping the Mitchell Robinson band aid off and trading his 13 million out while bringing back less in salary and getting away from the hard cap while fixing whatever roster issues you have in the process. Mitchell Robinson is as good as gone next summer anyway because Dolan is too cheap to let the team cross over the second apron for a year or two to try to win a title. At any rate, this Alvarado trade is probably a pipe dream because of financial constraints. Have a good day!

  2. Terrible idea. Kolic is going to be a star. If he just had some more time to develop. I mean, they were giving him a chance there for a minute. I don’t know how they blamed that couple games of losing on him. Because there were some turkeys out there.

  3. Don't know about deuce he was getting beat alot. His man was beating him off the dribble and also hitting 3's. At the end of the day the knicks shot around 26 percent from three and missed 15 free throws . If they shoot better this isn't close.
