Will Angel Stadium lots EVER get developed? #mlb #baseball #sports

Angel Stadium out here in California down in SoCal and Anaheim. And I mean, this is just a prototypical and it’s really all this land. And I realize they’ve done some developments here and here, but look at all the parking lot in between. If I were to color all that in, the question here is right, like if that’s the size of Angel Stadium. I could do one, two, three, four, five, six, seven. I mean, I could build I feel like at least eight Angel stadiums on the size of the parking lot. And that’s what team owners are looking at. That’s what uh mayors and, you know, county supervisors are looking at. What can we do with all of this land that we do not use for most of the year? If you play 81 Angels games a year, what are you doing with all this land for all the other days? Like, that is a a huge question. And can you do more with it? It’s crazy because right over here over at Honda Center, they’re doing an arena district called OC Vibe. it it literally is right off the screen right in that direction. And so the Angels ownership, they’ve been wanting to do something just like this for decades now. They’ve been wanting to surround Angel Stadium with a development. There’s a problem though because the city of Anaheim and the team ownership, they haven’t exactly been seeing eye to eye. They thought they had an agreement a couple years ago, but then it all fell apart.

  1. Yup, SportsTown was proposed in the early 90s. A new football stadium (permanent home of the Super Bowl was proposed). south of Angel Stadium, multi purpose housing, retail entertainment facilities, a Pro Rodeo arena, so much… But it fell through. That's how the Platinum District came about and the new OCVibe made headway. What's scary though is that this parking lot fills up w/ every game. Who knows? We'll see.

  2. AFAIK the stadium itself is owned by the team, the lot it sits on owned by the City of Anaheim. They did develop the SW corner into apartments & some retail (from industrial buildings), similar at the NW corner. The latest development agreement was put together clandestinely by a former mayor and the team owner who tried to sneak it through approval without public input, the mayor ended up in jail. Angels owner Arte Moreno always complains he wants to improve it, but with someone elses money and none of his own. He won't even invest funds for a 'contender' baseball team to attract fans, so who wants to support the team or any development. He needs to sell it to someone interested in making it a good baseball team.

  3. Brodie, land in Southern California, especially in Orange County isn’t very abundant. Unless you want to demolish existing structures. For example, Sofi stadium was built on the Hollywood Park racetrack.

  4. Besides Angel games, fond memories of seeing Pink Floyd, the "Animals" tour, at Anaheim Stadium in 1977.
PS β€” looking at events other than MLB, I can see why the city wants to get more usage and sales tax out of that prime real estate for the taxpayers.
PS2 β€” I’d say sell it to Disney for a new Cosplayland connected to the Disneyland park by monorail down the freeway!
PS3 β€” time for the Angels to move down the freeway to closed Westminster Mall!

  5. in Edmonton, AB there is a 55000 seat stadium without a parking lot. they do park and ride and have a train station to get people to and from the games and events at the stadium

  6. Angels stadium doesn't need it, Disneyland and Downtown Disney is like 20mins away. Not needed, stop trying to get rid of parking for "stadium villages
