  1. That’s a lot of money for Dylan Cease.

Congrats though Jays fans. When he’s on the stuff is nasty. Just needs to find more consistency.

  2. Good get for them, solidifies the rotation well. Good start to getting back to the WS next year✊

  3. Whether I agree with the contract or not, it’s fantastic to see a team who came up as short as one can try to improve their team. Well done Toronto

  4. Jesus That’s a lot of money for cease

Just kidding he has deferrals in the contract it’s not as crazy as my gut reaction had me feel

  5. I like this for Toronto. On the surface it was a down year for Cease but the advanced numbers were great. Jays rotation will be nice next season

  6. STARTING PITCHER MARKET IS HUGE AGAIN

Seriously a man who alternates between good and bad seasons got paid like an ace would 5 years ago

  7. I still don’t understand baseball contract scales. Is 30m a year a lot for cease or is that just the going rate for starting pitching now if they hit free agency

  8. I heard a lot of negative things about Cease from Padres fans. 7 years seems a bit excessive.

  9. Damn, pitching is expensive. He’s good, but idk about “that” good, and coming off a bad season. He’s really only had one ace level season, and that was four seasons ago. He’s never even made an All Star team.

  10. If Cease can find some consistency, this is an incredible deal. The problem is the consistency, he can still strike out batters even in a down year – but he also gets hit hard too.

    2022 – 2.20 ERA
    2023 – 4.58 ERA
    2024 – 3.47 ERA
    2025 – 4.55 ERA

    Gonna be interesting.

  11. Some of that has to be deferred, right? 7/210 seems kind of crazy. Either that, or everyone really underestimated the market.

Fun fit. That rotation is going to be scary.

  12. He reads very similarly to how Zach Wheeler read before his Phillies contract. Great analytics with uneven results.

I suspect that a lot of teams were looking to make a bargain out of Cease and the Blue Jays simply paid him what they thought he was worth (probably a little over given how quickly he signed).

  13. This is why you develop your own pitching. Years feel high but it’s age 30-36 for a pitcher with no recent injury history. And 30 million is about the aav for a pitcher like Cease.

  14. This is crazy money for Dylan Cease

    Over the past 3 seasons: 98 starts, 534.1 IP, 4.18 ERA, 3.45 FIP, 102 ERA+

I know the guy has shown flashes of brilliance but they have only been flashes. They must really believe that they can maximize him there because this is a contract for future performance not current
