What have you guys thought of KP this season? Small sample size but curious what everyone thinks.

He’s been great on the offensive side but it’s pretty obvious he’s needs to get more rebounds and play better defense he’s 7”2 and should abuse his height and strength a bit more, besides that he’s been just what we needed
KP adds a new dimension to our offense and completely changes the spacing compared to all previous seasons with CC. The space allows JJ, Dyson, and Zacc to slash to the rim and get better looks which is playing to their strengths and boosting the overall offense while Trae’s out.
He also is a great free throw shooter and wind up merchant. In some ways, he’s filling the Gallo role for this squad.
I think it’s fine that he sits out every back to back and hope he is healthy throughout the season. His role is even more important in the playoffs
Takes many out of rhythm shots at the start.
I am generally not a big fan of all-offense players like he is. His height and illness limits his motor and makes him a liability at times. To me, he is a nice 8th man on a roster, who can be very valuable in certain matchups but should play max 20 mins most nights
His offense is fine because he’s a super skilled seven footer with a jump shot. His defense is shot because his lateral movement is god awful now, which also means he can’t grab boards that don’t come right to him.
The only thing I think about is him being on another team next season
I don’t think simply showing the record is fair because is a lot of context that goes into that .. but simply I think he’s been fine on offense always a go to guy when we have a mismatch that can get a bucket , shot not falling at a elite clip is a bit of a bummer but not worried about that , we’re not even 20 games in. The defense has been hit & miss at times obviously exactly at the rim he’s been great but we gotta keep him out of those unfavorable situations. Overall I’m not worried about him especially for the price we got him for .. wouldn’t engage in extension talks or nothing yet but mostly satisfied.
Well that’s not very good
Onyeka should be the starter 100%. He at least can switch onto people. Obvious that the team still needs to look into center options though.
In a world where he isnt looking for a new contract he comes off of the bench.
This team would be so much better if we just committed to running the bench unit through KP. Surround him with a secondary rebounding big, and 3 other shooters. Go straight Latvia with it. Luke/Vit/KP lineups.
Unfortunately none of that happens unless we extend, which we aren’t doing anytime this season.
He has been underwhelming for me. A couple of flashes in defensive mismatches (pelicans) but otherwise pretty clearly in the downward slope of his career. Not a lot of closeout. No legs in his threes. Miniscule refunding. I was expecting KAT at the least, but I feel like we got John Collins instead.
We 100% should trade him. He’s a good player but unreliable and kills a lot of center play (especially rebounding) as he is so far from the basket. A lot of contending teams will likely overpay for him, and we are better off with additional assets and building out the core of OO, Asa, and Mo (and maybe someone we get back in a trade). There are a plethora of good centers being shopped by their teams now. I’d trade him before the deadline unless we are a top 3 seed in the East.
His sporadic availability is bad for chemistry, there’s no continuity to the team with him dropping in and out. When he does come in we are feeding him a lot of shots early to get him going. I do like him as a player I just think in our timeline this isn’t a good option as he’s costing valuable development to our young core. It’s nice having a steadying influence but what value long term?
His temperament sort of annoys me too, smiles too much. Seems like he’s not really that invested, just enjoying the moment. I want an animal at centre if we’re ever going to break out of this middling situation.
We’re not using him right and we’re allowing him to constantly be pulled out the paint instead of roaming. We need a stronger help defender to cover for him.
