The Steelers’ Scheme Is Maddening

  1. Are we shocked that Ben Johnson put a clinic on our scheme that hasn’t changed in a decade?

  2. At some point wouldn’t you just say “F it” and try something wildly out of character to see what happens?

  3. Why didn’t JPJ follow his guy down field? The safety is obviously stressed and he stopped like he had safety help. Her should have been manned up and stuck with him.

  4. I can’t get over how we played soft zone coverage, on THIRD down like 5 yards aways from the 1st down marker, before the end of the half which gifted the Bears a field goal. It almost makes me think the Steelers coaching staff had money on this game or something. There’s no way they’re that dumb.

  5. Another great scheme was 3rd and goal from the 2. We had two down linemen and everyone else playing off the line of scrimmage. They surged and he literally walked into the end zone. The linebackers never tried to time the snap and crash the line. It looked like an utter capitulation. There was no chance for that to work as executed.

  6. Tomlin is a defensive guru and our defense is the highest paid in the league so obviously our defense is great /s

  7. As Brett Kollman put it when he broke down Broderick Jones’ first start in 2023. This team makes you hate football with how they make things harder than it needs to be.

Mike Tomlin is just refusing to change to the modern game where teams use scheme instead of relying on 1 on 1 matchups.

  8. We play an out dated zone drop style defense that when spread offenses started shredding it around 2012ish people started answering by doing more pattern man matching type schemes. We don’t do it

  9. I agree with the overall sentiment here and I hate to be pedantic but this is not a **scheme** issue, it’s a **play calling** issue. And there’s only one man with the defensive call sheet.
