The Dallas Stars put a subtle yet amazing troll job inside of their new jersey announcement. Let’s talk about it. I talk hockey every single day, so make sure you follow so you don’t miss anything. But if you missed it yesterday, the Dallas Stars announced that these would be their new third jerseys. They’re a subtle nod back to their old ’90s jerseys, but they also have a new modern twist with the colors. First and foremost, these jerseys look amazing. Everyone loves those ’90s jerseys, and the fact that they brought them back now, I think it just makes it that much more better. Now, let’s get to the hilarious troll job that the Dallas Stars did. They had Brett Hall be one of the ambassadors of these new jerseys. And you can see in this picture right here, it’s very, very subtle, but one of his feet are standing in the blue paint around where his tripleot goal was scored, which was a very controversial call. And Buffalo Sabres fans still argue to this day shouldn’t have been a goal. For those of you who aren’t aware of the role, back in 1999, there was a rule in the NHL that if you had either feet in the blue paint whenever you scored a goal, it would not be counted. You were not allowed to have any feet in that area. But yet, Brett Hall’s triple OT winner, he had one foot in the blue paint. And yet his goal still counted and Buffalo Saber fans still argue to this day that they should have won that cup because that should not have counted as a goal. The whole thing is made even better by the fact that on the inside of the jersey it says 3T199 on the back of the collar which is a very subtle call back to the game, but I just think the whole thing’s hilarious. What people fail to realize that the NHL released a memo to playoff teams, that if you have possession of the puck, while in the blue paint and score, the goal counts.
I would have died laughing if somehow Lindy wore that New Jersey.
