Today is November 27th. Happy Thanksgiving!

Carlos Mendoza turns 46 today. Happy birthday to our team's manager!

Speaking of managers, on this date in 1967, the Mets traded pitcher Bill Denehy and $100,000 ($960,946 today) to the Washington Senators for Gil Hodges. Hodges would go on to manage the Mets from 1968, winning the World Series in 1969, until his fatal heart attack in 1972. Bill Denehy died on June 27, 2025.

Raul Valdes turns 48 today! Valdes was a lefty pitcher from Cuba who pitched for the 2010 Mets. On April 17, 2010, the Mets were in St. Louis and the game went into extra innings. In the top of the 18th inning, Valdes had a single for his first major league hit which came off a position player pitching but Valdes was thrown out at second. Remember, this was before the National League adopted the designated hitter. The Mets won 2-1 in the 20th inning with Mike Pelfrey getting the save. Valdes would later pitch for the Cardinals, Yankees, Phillies and Astros. He is actually still pitching today.

  1. You will never convince me that Dylan Cease is worth 7yr/210mil when he has had only one cy young caliber season in his whole career. That’s just a waste of money.

We should trade for high ceiling pitchers like Joe Ryan and Sandy Alcantara and save our money for Skubal next offseason if this is how the market will be.
