🚨 Jets GM Darren Mougey Is a GENIUS for This…
Jets fans, NFL fans, it’s your boy Richie reporting to you live from Virginia. We are not in the studio as you can tell. It’s a beautiful day out here. Got the sun out, but I wanted to make a video. We are on the road for Thanksgiving down here with my sister and my family, of course, for the holidays. Want to wish everybody a happy Thanksgiving. I am extremely grateful for everybody that tunes into the videos here on Jets Media and shows all the support and the love. I really cannot say how much I appreciate and how grateful I am to be part of a fantastic community. So, happy Thanksgiving to everybody. Hope you have a fantastic time with your family and your friends during your Thanksgiving. Now, this video, it’s really going to be about Darren Muji’s approach, and I already made a video posting it on social media in short form, but I felt like this topic deserves a long form format because there’s so much detail that I wanted to break down in this specific video about the overall philosophy of the New York Jets general manager, Darren Muji, and how proactive he has been since he became the Jets GM, of course, with head coach Aaron Glenn. And I really think it’s refreshing to have a GM that is this active adding new players to this roster, not just in the offseason, but during the season. And that’s what we’re going to break down in this video and more other things as well as we get further in. So, don’t forget to hit the thumbs up button, subscribe to the channel if you’re new, comment down below your thoughts, if you have anything to say about what we’re going to get into. So, if you don’t really know what I’m referring to, if you didn’t see any of the videos or any of the posts I had on X, this is the post that I made on X a few days ago about all the players that Darren Muji brought in since the start of the season starting in August. That’s where he went out there and traded for two defensive tackles in Harrison Phillips, Joan Briggs. You saw him bring in John Mchi the third and AD Mitchell. Mazy Smith gets brought in. Trades for Jarvis Brownley Jr. just brought in Saunders as well. like Darren Muji is bringing in so many players to this roster and he’s not waiting for the offseason. And I think a big part of this that I wanted to highlight is usually general managers, they wait until the offseason, make trades, you have free agency, you can use your cap space that way. You have the draft. You can really add players to your roster and help out the weakness on your roster then. But what Darren Muji’s doing right now, I actually really love and I feel like deserves some praise here, which is basically not just sitting on his hands because usually general managers during the season, it’s like not really their time to do much other than scouting for the offseason, looking at potential free agents that they’re looking at, having their scouting departments go look at college players during their games on the weekends. They’re preparing for the offseason. But that’s not really what Darren Muji has been doing here with the New York Jets. He is looking after players to add to this roster. And starting off with the big trades the Jets made, they trade away Michael Carter II, Quinnon Williams, Sauce Gardner. Darren Muji made sure in all three of those trades, he did not just get draft picks. He wanted to get players that he can have on this roster that Aaron Glenn and the coaching staff can get their hands on to try to build to really be part of the foundation that they’re trying to establish here with the New York Jets. Starting off with John Mechy that came over from the Eagles in that Michael Carter the second trade. Mucci could easily said, you know what, let’s just take a fourth round or a fifth round pick, a day three swap to get rid of MC2, but no, he wanted a player that could be a part of this team. And I think that what Muji has done a great job at is identifying weaknesses on the roster. Heading into the season, we can all say a big weakness on the roster, interior of the defensive line, and the wide receiver next to Garrett Wilson. And now you’re looking at it and it’s not a strength, but it’s definitely a little bit better than it was earlier on in the season. Starting off with the wide receiver position. Look at this receiver room. Without Garrett Wilson right now, healthy, you got Mchi and Mitchell out there looking like really solid pieces to be excited about long term. Now, they still have a long way to go. It’s a very small sample size. They still got to be consistent in this offense. But I really feel like looking at Mechi in particular, getting him from the Eagles, his story is just absolutely absurd when you think about where he started his career in Alabama. tears his ACL, gets drafted in the second round, should have been a first round pick according to a lot of people. And then he gets diagnosed with cancer unfortunately. Then he’s buried on the depth chart, never really given the opportunity. And now this is his chance with the New York Jets. He’s given the opportunity, which is why the Jets wanted to get him in the building because the Jets have a big hole at wide receiver next to Garrett Wilson. We don’t really have a lot of upside with guys like Tyler Johnson, Alan Lazard, and Josh Reynolds. All three of those guys are veterans, not part of the long-term future. Arian Smith. He obviously has not really found his footing yet. The Jets don’t really feel comfortable with him out there a lot. They’re using him a little bit more, but they obviously feel like he’s not someone that could be a starter in this league just yet, which is why they went after Mechi in that trade. And now you’re seeing what he can do. Back-to-back games with over 50 yards, I believe, or like 45 yards against the Patriots, 50 plus yards against the Ravens, and a touchdown a piece in each of those games. This is a guy that I really feel like could be a piece of this Jets offense moving forward. And then when the Jets trade away Sash Gardner, Muji did not just want f two firsts. He made sure to get a guy in AD Mitchell who is a former second round pick last year. Still has two more years of control after this season of cheap contract. And now you’re looking at the Jets receiver room with AD Mitchell. Now he hasn’t really broke out yet. He doesn’t have a touchdown or he only has, you know, three catches as a Jet so far. But I really do feel like the route running and the ability to get open in this offense, it’s something that the Jets can work with. and Tanner Angstrand was raving about AD Mitchell as a person that he’s just a genuinely really good dude. Those types of players you want in this culture that the Jets are trying to build and I think that Darren Muji identifying the weakness of this roster being the wide receiver room and turning the depth on the defense into some, you know, depth on the offensive side of the ball is really important here. Right? You look at S Gardner and he’s obviously a very good football player, a multi-time allp pro. The Jets signed him to a contract extension in the summer. Darren Muji and his team made sure when they signed him to that contract, it is a tradable contract. And now you have Aar Thomas replacing Sauce, you flip Sauce and Michael Carter, two corners for two wide receivers. And I think that the Jets took the strength at corner, which is depth, because you had Sauce, Stevens, Michael Carter, Brownley. It was a clogged room, and you turned the depth over there, and you flipped those guys to now create depth at a really big position of weakness, which is the wide receiver room. really proactive stuff here. And I like that they’re not waiting for the offseason to do these things because now the Jets have them during the season. They can install them in their offense, evaluate if they fit or not, and really be part of the foundation that the Jets are trying to create here, which I absolutely love. So, really cool to see Darren Muji do these things. Now, when it comes to the Quinnon Williams trade, the Jets got Mazy Smith back. That definitely feels like the only guy that’s a throwin. Don’t really have a lot of things to say about Mazy Smith. He already was a healthy scratch. The Jets brought in Kayn Saunders, a veteran defensive tackle. That’s probably going to be a guy that the Jets are going to try to give him an opportunity in this defense. Mazy Smith is one of the guys in this trades that the Jets got that I’m not really excited about. He was a first round pick. You never know, but he’s already a healthy scratch that it’s not a good sign that, you know, obviously the Jets get their hands on him and they’re seeing probably the same thing that Dallas saw. He was a bust over there. You never know. But definitely not really intrigued about Smith by any stretch of the imagination. But how about Jarvis Brownley Jr.? the guy that the Jets traded for early on in the season from the Tennessee Titans, a late round pick, and he’s coming in here. He kind of fits the mindset of this Jets team. Now, he has not been perfect. He came in here and he’s he forced the only turnover of the season, by the way. In his first game as a Jet, he forced a fumble against the Denver Broncos, and then ever since he’s been on and off, had some penalty issues, coverage issues, but against the Ravens, he had two really good plays. He looks like a mini linebacker, and that’s what the Jets linebacker, Quincy Williams, referred to him as. He plays with a lot of energy and a lot of physicality that I think fits exactly what the Jets are trying to do from the uh secondary position. So, we love that. But the one guy that I think could be a gem of all the players that Dar Muji brought in in the trademark is Jawan Briggs, the defensive tackle. He actually has been an absolute stud getting to the quarterback from a pass rush standpoint from the inside is very unique. You need that type of talent. and Jawan Briggs and Harrison Phillips, both of them combined. We were going into this season with nobody at the defensive tackle spot next to Quinn. And now all of a sudden you have Briggs and Phillips. And now you trade away Quinn. Now the Jets actually have somebody to work with. Now it’s still a position of need heading into the offseason. But I feel like Darren Muji has done a tremendous job plugging in these players on the trade market, being proactive, not just waiting to the offseason to get his guys. Now has Darren Muji been perfect? No. The Justin Field signing is obviously not working out, but I think the people that bring up the Justin Field signing and holding that against Darren Muji, I’m not really worried about it, man. It was a short-term thing. It’s not like he signed him to a 4-year $120 million contract. The Jets can get out of Fields’s contract very easily. That was a bridge deal, a 2-year $40 million contract, 30 million guaranteed. They’re not really committed to him long term. So, yes, did they whiff on Justin Fields? Of course they did. Were there better options on the market? Maybe. But I’m not going to hold that on them. This is not the quarterback that’s going to make or break Aaron Glenn and Daramuji’s career here. What’s going to make or break their career is the quarterback they draft in the first round. If they go that route or if they go the veteran route and they trade for a quarterback or do a different way when they commit to a quarterback, that’s when we can really evaluate it. And that’s really the last thing I wanted to say about Muji is the last thing that we are going to see from him is that quarterback position. And what I mean by the last thing is that’s going to be the cherry on top of everything because all these trades we’re talking about and everything else he’s going to do and create is going to be about if he hit a home run on the quarterback position. He was part of the quarterback evaluation of Oregon quarterback Bo Knicks when he was in Denver. Now Boon Knicks hasn’t really broke out to be an MVP candidate or anything great, but he’s a winning quarterback. He went to the playoffs last year and the Broncos are leading the AFC West. Of course, you can look at the Broncos and it’s all their defense. But Bo Knicks is a clutch quarterback. He makes plays. He’s a young guy that’s learning and Muji was part of that evaluation process. So, I’m hopeful that we’re going to get our quarterback. Whether that is Fernando Mendoza, Dante Moore, Tai Simpson, or maybe the Jets don’t get a quarterback this year. That’s a whole other conversation. But that’s really the next thing that we’re going to be evaluating is that I think Darren Muji has done a relatively good job and now we’re going to see him with a lot of cap space to work with in this offseason from a free agency standpoint. So you guys let me know your thoughts in the comments. Do you think that Darren Muji deserves some praise here or do you think that it’s a little bit no Jets are 2 and N? He started 0 and7. He doesn’t deserve his credit. But I feel like his proactive energy deserves a whole video to break it all down. Every single move he’s made from a trade standpoint. You can go into the free agency class and you know make some question marks around some guys as Brandon Stevens deserve that contract. Fields of course Josh Reynolds not hasn’t really done much. The draft is another whole thing. The 2025 draft class I think it’s relatively solid. I mean Armanu looks like a freaking stud at right tackle. He just I mean there will never be an offensive rookie of the year that will be an offensive line, but he could be in that race. If you really look at the data and the stats that Arma Meu was doing there at the right tackle position, Mason Taylor, he definitely is a solid tight end. Hasn’t really broke out to be a legit weapon yet, but I think that it will come in time. Zary Thomas if this man can really become the guy next to or replacing Sauce Gardner and we’re looking at him as a starting corner for the next four to five years and he’s solid and he’s has a lot of upside. That’s a big hit. Malachi Moore, he could potentially be our starting safety moving forward as well. Kiko, the linebacker from Miami, he’s now our third linebacker who’s actually not looking bad. And his brother, by the way, is one of the top prospects coming in in the 2026 class. You never know what if the Jets figure out a way to get him get his brother in the building which is unlikely but hey you never know. Tyler Baron is pretty much a bust of a pick but that was like in the fifth sixth round. Not really too concerned about that one there. But I feel like you know Aryan Smith as well. So you look at this draft class pretty solid and Darren Muji so far in his first year as a Jets GM has been impressive but the big question is Aaron Glenn is he going to figure out a way to coach this team up to some wins. So, that’s really what I wanted to talk about is really highlight all the moves that Darren Muji has made up until this point and not sitting on his hands, not waiting for the offseason to make some moves, trying to get guys in the building now so Aaron Glenn can plug him in to help him win some football games during this season. So, you guys let me know your thoughts in the comments. Comment down below a plane emoji if you stayed to the end of the video. Big shout out to Sleeper as always being the proud sponsor of Jets Media all season long. Don’t forget to use the code Jets. A lot of Thanksgiving picks are coming your way here on Sleeper. So, if you guys want to take advantage of a 100% deposit match up to $100, don’t forget to use the code JS, that link is at the top of the description, folks. Big shout out to them as always. And the last thing I’ll say again is, you know, this game against the Falcons, we’re in deep evaluation mode. Are the New York Jets going to be able to get the job done? And are the offensive playmakers going to get some more plays with Tyrod Taylor at the quarterback position? Is the offensive line going to have a better game against a really good tough front seven against the Atlanta Falcons? Only time will tell. You guys let me know your thoughts in the comments. Appreciate you guys for tuning in. I’m out of here.

GREAT DAY FOR AMERICA –
GREAT DAY FOR AMERICANS –
MAY YOU AND YOUR FAMILY EMBRACE THE JOY OF ALL THAT THIS DAY BRINGS – HAVE A BLESSED THANKSGIVING DAY
Hey Ritchie, what are your thoughts if the Jets can Trade a 3 rd pick for Sheduer Sanders in the offseason since they asked the jets for a 2nd rd pick using the 1st rd pick on Rueben Bain jr?
I trust AG + Mougey to get the jets to become a regular playoff team.
J.E.T.S
Good deal, you as well.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family also, Richie.
LOOK AT THIS… THE JETS ARE DOING WHAT I SAID THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE… They are fixing everything AROUND JUSTIN FIELDS… Which is exactly what the PROBLEM WAS… It's the ORGANIZATION… Not JUSTIN FIELDS… Duh…
Happy Thanksgiving Richie
I'm usually pessimistic with teams i like, but I gotta tell you man..I have hope with this new regime. I believe in Moug who will become a great GM mogul in the future, based off his moves alone this year.
The team will ride for Glenn, I have no doubt.
I'm just curious what they do for QB.
I'm a longtime suffering SJ Sharks fan. No hope for years..and now it looks like they have their generational superstar in Celebrini, as well as franchise goalie in Asky. And the wins are stacking. It's given me hope.
So I cannot WAIT to experience what those hockey feels, would feel like with the Jets in the near future. We just need OUR guy. But i know it's gonna turn around finally.
Mougey is straight COOKIN! I love what the Jets are doing!! We need to build this. Not put some patches on a cracked foundation.
The moves mougey is making are all swing on high upside potential young players and acquiring draft assets on top of it.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!✈️
Not a regular on this channel just yet Richie. But I gotta ask, what's up with the blush brush microphone bro?
I think he’s doing great, my biggest problem with Douglas was the lack of moves during the season. A good GM is always making the team better.
The Justin Fields contract was genius. How else to tank without signing the perfect fall guy. The Jets wanted to set up failure, but Justin shouldn't care. He got paid big bucks to take it for the team.
Happy Thanksgiving Richie! Thanks for calling the games on Sunday!❤
Happy thanksgiving looks beautiful there reminds me of when I would see my uncle for thanksgiving perfect vibes for the holiday
Happy thanksgiving
🛫
The jets won’t win another game until they fire their head coach, OC, and DC. Another 10 pts coming this weekend.
Dude , it's cloudy and rainy in NJ. Great epi. Go Jets.
You’re right Richie Derrick got the knack for picking players
Ade683. Sorry but so far AG has not done a lot to have faith in him. I hoping he can become a good coach but I still have doubts. Mougey on the other hand is definitely trending in the right direction but we still have to wait on him also. Nevertheless I have faith in Mougey not yet for Glen.
Come on , this roster is so void of talent adding anyone would be a Upgrade, and he also screwed up his first draft so bad , anything after the 2nd round is a wiff , who takes a RT at #7 overall and we have the 4th best TE from the draft, we went into the season with a disaster at the most important position QB. Trading our 2 best players for draft picks is fine but that only depends on what you pick with them. I don't trust him to draft a QB from this group coming out this year , we will have to draft a QB every year until we find one , he paid Sherwood alot of money and he is horrible. It will be another 5 years before we know if have a QB and 3 years before we sniff the playoffs with any shot of going deep into them. So another 2 years before can think about winning enough to make the playoffs extending this team as the worst in pro sports. I am praying either Woody sells the Team which is not happening or we fire our coach and GM handing it over to John Gruden. Not Happy at all with our GM I hope he proves me wrong but I doubt it. This guy is 🐕💩
The only way to change the culture on this team is to sell it. But we know that's not going to happen. So the next best thing is for Woody Johnson to shut the fuck up and let his GM work let his coaches work. So tired of seeing that man in the headlines talking. He's an absolute idiot. But I like what our GM is doing. I think AD Mitchell and mechie are going to be great Jets for the future. Too young guys were a lot of upside and cheap contracts. I'm excited to get back with Garrett Wilson with these guys and see what they do. I still like to see a draft a wide receiver at some point also just to be sure. Also maybe a center or guard. And definitely go heavy on free agency on the defensive side and possible draft picks
To change the culture you have to clean house. Too many guys on this roster that have been here are used to losing. I like they mindset, next year this team will look a lot different.
im in richmond VA !!
Yes I do agree he improved weakness at WR but now the secondary is thin
Happy thanksgiving bro
