Dylan Cease gets PAID by Blue Jays, Mike Shildt isn’t fully retired

Hey, you already know what’s up. What’s that? Another home run. You know the job ain’t done till we hold that trophy up. Sorry about the delay there. I am not on the screen. Now I’m on the screen. Okay, here we go. All right, welcome everybody to Talking Friars here as I clearly am just getting settled in here on this Wednesday evening. I have not gone live in a little bit, so sorry it took me a little bit there to change what I was doing there. Uh, but we got some news to talk about. Dylan CE going to the Blue Jays. Mike Schilt going to the Baltimore Orioles. San Diego Padres’s, what are we doing here? Uh, we had some news this week about a couple of coaches. Hitting coach Steven Soua Jr., bench coach Randy Noir, I believe was his name. Um, those two joining Craig Stamon staff. that is reported that is not you know official by the team. Usually the team will put out one post, one press release with the entire coaching staff. So once that once the entire thing is assembled then that’s when you’ll probably see that from them. There’s no third base coach that’s been announced. So there’s and who knows what other positions they’re going to add. So we’re still waiting on that. But the two big things today, cease to the Blue Jays, Mike Schult to the Baltimore Orioles. And I have some thoughts on that and I’ll get, you know, your thoughts in the comments. Um, but yeah, CE, let’s start with Cease and then I’ll get the show. Dylan CE I saw this as John Haymon tweeted this and I was like okay wow 210 million 7 years to the Toronto Blue Jays if you’re the Blue Jays right you just won the pennant you’re trying to win a World Series probably you’re trying to attract Bob Boette back to your team you don’t want to blow this win like you just don’t for me when the Blue Jays lost I was like all right they’re probably not going to do it again but that doesn’t mean you don’t try obviously. So them bringing in someone like Dylan CE that obviously sends the message to the fan base to Bob Bashette to other free agents like hey we’re trying to win here. We just won the pennant. We’re just we’re bringing in bigname guys like come join us if you want to be on a contending team. We are a contending team here in the American League. And I believe that they are. Uh but 200 over $200 million for Dylan CE I’m good. And that’s someone that’s been watching Dylan CE for years now with the Padres’s. And I think a lot of other Padres’s fans are like, “Good for Dylan.” But wow, that’s a lot. And now it’s someone that has a track record. I think the big question is how much does Michael King get? What contract does he get? Because I would like if I’m trusting someone in a playoff game right now and both guys are healthy, Michael King or Dylan CE, I’m going with Michael King. Um, I will give credit to Dylan CE that he did do his job in that postseason outing against the Chicago Cubs. Obviously, Padres’s they lose in the first round. Um, but CE went in there. I was doubting it, but he went in there and he pitched into the fourth inning. Didn’t didn’t give up any runs. He struck out five guys. He did his job and the Padres’s ended up winning that game. So, props to him for that. Uh, but too many times, and maybe it was just me focusing too much or us fans focusing too much on Dodger starts, but they’re back-to-back World Series champs. Like, that’s the big time opponent, and I would not trust that guy over any other starter really with the Padres’s uh this past season who was like consistently in the rotation. Like, I’d go with Randy over Dylan Cece against the Dodgers. I just didn’t trust him in the biggest spot. And that’s that is the biggest spot. I’m not saying the regular season against the Dodgers, but a matchup against the Dodgers when it matters the most. Like to me, that’s the biggest spot. Um, against the Phillies, would I trust Dylan CE? I I don’t know. Probably. I would just want other guys in front of Dylan CE. And I’m not even if we had the money, do I want to be giving over $200 million to Dylan CE? I do not. And maybe this will be one of those what’s it called? frozen cold takes or something. You know, someone will some Blue Jays fan will, you know, screen capture this and post this when Dylan CE helps them go win a World Series. Might they might that might happen. Like Dylan CE, he’s talented for sure. Obviously had the no hitter. He’s had some really good starts in a Padres’s uniform, but he’s also had some really irritating starts and span of starts where he just doesn’t give you the length that you want. And then he obviously gives up the long ball. Um, if we were to go to his game logs for this season, just to give you an example, like overall the stats, 32 starts, he’s always going to make his start. So when we talk about having a track record, right, with the White Socks, what he did there, always makes a start. Like he’s not someone that gets hurt all the time. So when you’re talking about investing long-term and money there, yeah, makes sense. But performance-wise, guy had a 455 RA overall this year. Um, there’s a lot of outings here that he didn’t go five innings. And if I’m paying someone over $200 million, I want that guy not just making 30 starts a year, but I want that guy giving me six innings, pitching into the sixth inning. And there were too many times, especially this past season, where he didn’t do that. Is some of that Mike Schil saying, “We’re just going to go to the bullpen.” And some of that’s not on Dylan CE. Yes, but there Come on. There there’s definitely outings where it’s on Dylan CE. Um, let me just count how many times he didn’t pitch or he he didn’t get through let’s say one out into the sixth inning. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 18 of his 32 starts he didn’t get at least one out into the sixth inning if that makes sense. I’m not giving someone $210 million when that’s what’s been happening. And I know that’s one year, but I was, if I’m going to look at Dylan CE’s overall tenure with the Padres’s, I look back at it disappointed because that’s not that’s not who I was expecting, I guess, when the Padres’s acquired him. So, I’m happy for Dylan. great guy, but that’s just not someone that I want to give seven years and $210 million to. Um, so yeah, Padres’s have to fill it though. And right now their rotation picture is Nick Paveta, Joe Musgrove, Darbish is out for the season. So you got Randy Vasquez, you got Kyle Hart as an option. Um, maybe someone from the bullpen, Matt Waldron, uh, JP Sears. That’s what we’re looking at right now. Am I going to start panicking and go on a fiveminute rant about the state of this rotation right now? No, I’m not. I’m just laying out the facts and what this looks like right now. But it’s November 26th. I’m not going to sit here and be super concerned about something that doesn’t actually matter right now because what matters is what it’s going to look like when the season starts. AJ Pler’s made some pretty impactful additions even during spring training. So, I think when we go into spring training, we can react to it. I think maybe people can give strong takes about the rotation going into spring training, but even then, like sometimes those late deals end up being very impactful. Thinking of Michael Walka in past years, uh Nick Paveta, Seth Lugo, I think was a late one. Maybe it was a little earlier. I kind of confuse walk-in Lugo sometimes, but that does happen. So, I guess my message there is we’re going to have to be a little bit patient here, especially with the situation that they’re in. What’s the budget? Has the budget been determined yet? Or is that something that’s going to be determined after Thanksgiving and before Christmas? Like, you know, it better be determined before the winter meetings, right? Because a lot of stuff happens then. So yeah, and like the Padres’s, they’ve had a bunch of time here to figure that out. It’s not like they were making a deep run in the postseason. They got eliminated in the wild card series. So there should be time here to figure that out. Uh but yeah, Dylan Cece to the Blue Jays. I’m happy for him. And he is talented. Like I don’t want to make it sound like this guy sucks. Like I’m glad he’s in the American League because that’s definitely someone that you could see shoving it, you know, shoving it against the Padres’s. Uh but I definitely wouldn’t have done that to Dylan Seats. Over $200 million. I’m good. Now, the other news, Mike Schult going to the Baltimore Orioles. I think it’s important to make the clarification because I’ve seen this a lot amongst Padres’s fans. Didn’t Mike Schil retire? Yes, he retired from managing the Padres’s if you were paying attention to what was happening and what he told Kevin AC and I think Dennis Lynn after he announced retiring from being the manager of the Padres’s. He was never retiring from baseball like that guy. There are people in sports, right? You just can’t imagine them not being in the game. They’re going to be in the game somehow, right? I think a Billy Bean, he’s still involved, I believe, with the A’s. He’s just not the head guy going in there every single day, right? Mike Schil is a baseball guy. The guy was a clubhouse attendant, I believe, in the minor leagues as a kid, and he’s done everything in baseball. worked in the minors for a long time, the Cardinals, worked his way up to managing, then was a special he was a adviser assistant to AJ, right, for a couple of years before being Padres’s manager. And when he was an assistant, he was down there in the minor leagues helping out like he’s not going to go away. He can’t live without the game of baseball. He’s not going to live the rest of his life golfing, you know, in Charlotte and not be involved in baseball. So, he was always going to return. It was just a matter of when. I’m not super surprised that it’s, you know, he didn’t even take a season off because that’s just who he is. You know, I I if I had baseball, I’m not working in baseball, you know, in the building every day, but if I had the Padres’s ripped away from me or I had Major League Baseball ripped away from me and I wouldn’t be involved in it, who would I be? You know, like that’s a big part of who I am and what I do. Like I love it. You know, that’s how it is. Like Mike Schil, he loves being in the game, being involved in the game. He just didn’t want the stress of managing. He still loves baseball and loves aspects of it. He didn’t love some aspects of it. And that’s what it is. Like I can read you from Kevin AC, Mike Schil talking to Kevin AC and explaining his decision to retire from managing the Padres’s and how he was worn out. And part of it, here’s a Shil quote. One of the reasons I’m going to leave is a frustration with the stress and the inability to please everybody. I made a decision to go home because of this. I’m tired of dealing with it. And that’s part of it with managing. like that’s something that you sign up for. I have to accept that as part of being a manager in the major leagues, he said of the ability to make everyone happy. Inability, but it’s one of the factors in my decision to no longer do that along with the other stresses that come with the job. He’s not going to have to speak to the media and feel the, you know, he has to defend everything he does every day, twice a day. He he’s not going to have to do that with the Orioles. And the Orioles, by the way, the title that they’re bringing him in as upper level minor league coordinator of instruction according to Andy Costka, uh, who I believe covers the Orioles for the Baltimore Banner. U, and then Roach Kabatokco, probably just botched that name, but he worked for Massen reporting on the Orioles. he had these had that first. Um but yeah, so him being in the minor leagues instructing like him bettering those individuals is is a passion of his and helping those individuals. When he was with the Padres’s before managing, he’d go down there in the minor leagues and help out there. Like that that’s a big part of what he enjoys about the game of baseball. He enjoys teaching the game of baseball. Does he enjoy dealing with the media? Does he enjoy, you know, trying to please everybody because ultimately he’s the manager and so roster decisions or coach’s input and then, you know, if he disagrees with it, does a coach take it personally? Like does he agree with or not agree, does he enjoy that part of it? Doesn’t seem like it, especially this past year. And did he but you know to be fair to those other people did he deal with it in the right way? No. According to some of this reporting about how he treated some of the coaches. Um but yeah, like I just wanted to be clear with that. He was never retiring from baseball. He was retiring from managing the San Diego Padres’s. Will he manage again? I don’t know. I’d be more surprised. Um, I’ll put it this way. Him managing, I’d be more surprised in that than I was with the news today. Like, he was going to land somewhere. I I just don’t know if he wants to manage again. You know, there’s so he probably had so many organizations wanting him to be a part of their organization in some sort of fashion like this. With the or let’s remember with the Orioles, like he loved Cal Ripken Jr. growing up and Cal used to he went through the minor leagues and he was a club before Cal I believe in the minors like so he him being part of the Orioles organization I don’t know the other connections he has there that’s probably special to him and this will probably free up his schedule a little bit like he can I don’t know if this is a full-time thing where he has to be in the minor leagues every single day I’m sure he can contribute to the big league level as well um when they ask for So, and it will be closer to home if he is going to be, you know, I doubt why would he be on the West Coast, right? So, it’s a role that makes sense for him. And again, like I want him to be happy and he’s happy when he work when he’s working it in baseball, when he’s enjoying working in baseball. clearly he wasn’t super happy when he was managing the Padres’s, especially this past season, the the second half of this past season. Um, so yeah, I mean hopefully both parties are off better with this. Like sure, having Shil in the organization, I think that’s a that’s something that you want if you’re the Padres’s, his knowledge, and that’s something to get to as well, but I’ll I’ll get that, you know, here in like 30 seconds. But both parties, hopefully the Padres’s learn some things from this and Craig Stamon can be a guy that carries some of those things on but also treats staff better. Um, you know, again, that’s according to Kevin’s reporting. And then Mike Shield again, hopefully he’s happier like this because I do think he’s a good human being. But when you’re passionate about something and in your job sometimes you’re just so passionate about it that you react in certain ways that maybe you regret a little bit. Um maybe maybe he does, maybe he doesn’t. I don’t know. But I know that he gave his full effort. Like that was never a question. like he truly cared about I think he truly cared about winning for San Diego, winning for the Padres’s organization, winning for Peter, all of that. Um, but also questions that come from this though, like it’s less than two months when he ret uh from retiring as Padres’s manager and he’s joining another organization. Like I was thinking today, the Padres’s wouldn’t give him this position. They wouldn’t create this position for him. minor league coord upper level minor league coordinator of instruction. That sounds like a created position. The Padres’s wouldn’t create that for him if everything was okay. Like if Prowler and Shilt relationship was great and Pllor it truly was a retirement and he just couldn’t deal with it being Padres’s manager anymore. But Preller still loves Shilt. He wouldn’t offer Schil a type of role like this. the Padres’s wouldn’t want Schill his expertise and his knowledge in the minor leagues teaching minor leaguers where he wouldn’t deal with all those stresses of managing and he I think would be a very good asset to have in the organization uh you know how that doesn’t connect right you see what I’m saying the Padres’s of course if everything was good you would want Mike Schil still in your organization and I would think from Mike Schultz view if everything was good and truly it was your decision to step down and you didn’t want to manage anymore, but you still love the organization, you would take a role if offered in the Padres’s organization because it did seem like, you know, him how he talked about the fan base and the city and players and seemed like he loved the organization. So, if it was fine, wouldn’t he stay in the organization? So, what is it? Did Prowler fire him? And it was just, you know what, I want to be nice to you though, Shely. I don’t hate you like I hate Bob Melvin. Like, that’s what it seems like. I don’t hate you. So, we’re just going to have you retire here and we’ll be nice here. You You’ll look better for other team. Like, other teams, the way that this is phrased, other teams won’t have any question. Like, they’ll just go get grab you. you’ll be good. And then from Mike Schultz’s point of view, did he not want to make it be like, I don’t want to be here. I’m just retiring from managing, you know, cuz he could have went the route, right? Like I mean I I don’t see Schult doing this publicly, but he could have went a different route of being more negative about it. And I’m retiring because I can’t deal with AJ or I’m retiring. I mean, he kind of said it now that I think about it. He kind of said it that way just nicely about not AJ but dealing with the stresses of the job, inability to please everyone. Like I’m tired of it. Um so clearly like it’s not great there or else he would have stayed in the organization I would think in a similar role that he ended up taking with the Baltimore Orioles, right? because he did that for multiple years with the Padres’s before becoming manager of the Padres’s. So, he was willing to do that. So, I don’t know if that’s a location thing. So, to me, this is just like, yeah, things weren’t the best there. Like, regardless of how they’re going to say it publicly, things weren’t the best there. Um, so yeah, that’s that’s what I got on this upper level minor league coordinator of instruction. I don’t really have I don’t have the Bob Melvin feeling of this like oh I hate Bob Melvin and you know didn’t want to be here talking about being with the Giants you know uh as your member of the Padres’s and because that’s what he talked about in his opening press conference with the Giants obviously he’s not managing the Giants anymore that didn’t go so great which is funny um I don’t feel this way to Mike Schill as I feel as I felt and still will feel with you know the whole Bmell thing. Um cuz it it just felt different Schill and Melvin I didn’t totally get the man this guy really loves the Padres’s the city of San Diego wants to do it for Peter and all that. I know Peter was alive for the whole uh Bob Melvin thing. I didn’t get that sense with Mike Schult like Mike Schultz really wanted it, really cared with Bo. It didn’t get that same. So maybe that’s why I don’t have the same, you know, dislike to to Schult as I do to Bob Melvin. But yeah, that’s that’s the two news items of the day. Not really a whole lot to talk about Padres’s wise. I already gave my thoughts on the two coaches that they reportedly are bringing in. They hired those earlier in the week. Um, you know, another thought I guess about Stamon coming in is, yeah, maybe it was PER being like, I like Craig Stamon more than Mike Schil and stuff I’m hearing about Schill treating staff members. I I know Stammon’s not going to do that. Stamon’s my guy. Maybe there was disagreements between the two and the relationship wasn’t as good as it was at the start, which that happens when AJ Pller is the GM and time had just kind of run its course and both sides mutually agreed and Peller wanted Stamon and Schill was just kind of tired of things and so they just agreed, yep, I’m retiring from managing the Padres’s. But he was never going to retire from managing or excuse me, not managing. He was never going to retire from baseball. That’s not what was going to happen ever. He needs baseball. It’s It’s in his blood. So, wishing the best to Shilty. I am glad that he’s helping a team that’s not in the National League. I’m glad he’s not like joining the Dodgers as a special assistant to Andrew Freriedman. He’s not joining the Giants or the Phillies or the Mets or going back to the Cardinal League. Like, sure, go to the American League. And same with CE. Yeah, go. As much as I, you know, didn’t want to give him over $200 million, I know that there’s still talent there and he’s still a good pitcher. So, yeah, I don’t want you in the the National League. We’ll meet up in the World Series if the Padres’s are fortunate to ever get there. All right. Before getting to the chat, shout out to the great partners of the show, Gaggler Bros. The more likely scenario is SDFC travels to Miami for MLS Cup. which would still be pretty awesome to to have a match up there against Inner Miami. um inside Petco Park as well, Gagler and Bros, which you could get coming up December 5th. If things go well, if San Diego State beats New Mexico, if SDFC beats Vancouver and NYCFC beats Inner Miami, then San Diego State would play the Mountain West Championship game December 5th at Petco Park with December 6th uh being MLS Cup final in San Diego at Snapdragon Stadium. And that’s an agreement that was already set. It makes more sense to play a football game at PCO than a soccer game at PCO. There hasn’t been the soccer game at PCO. There’s already been football games at PCO. There was the holiday bowl between Oregon and North Carolina a few years back. That’s already happened. So, I think it just made more sense there because initially I was like, well, San Diego State, that’s their stadium at Snapdragon. Why would they get why would they give the the their stadium usage to SDFC when football would be the priority, right? But it just makes more sense to and maybe SDFC would be paying San Diego State. Uh I’m sure there’s some big money involved there. Having an MLS Cup final at Petco though would be pretty cool. I didn’t like seeing the the lines obviously on the field for the last playoff match. But if you’ve watched wave matches in previous years, like you’ve seen that and it’s frustrating, but it is what it is. And players obviously weren’t very happy. They weren’t super happy about the conditions. Um, Yep. and Andre definitely made some comments about that, but like you got to know that that’s going to happen late in the season until that MLS calendar changes, which it will eventually, but until that changes, this is what’s going to happen. I think even when it does change, there will still be a portion of the year that they would be happening at the same time, football and soccer. Um, so you’re just going to have to deal with it. And they dealt with it, man. What a what a night that was. Ian Piltchure, I think that’s going to be my first SDFC jersey. I’ve been waiting. I was thinking about Luca Bombino. Um I’ve obviously been watching the team the entire season, but I really wanted to pick someone that like stood out to me. I was waiting for that moment because everyone obviously does Andre Dryer or Cheeky jerseys, right? You see that all the time, but I’m a big fan of defenders. And so I was going to do Luca cuz I really loved late in one of the I think it was one of the Portland games where you know you’re trying to just secure the win and he makes a late effort as a ball’s going out. It probably would have been a corner uh for Portland I think and he goes and you know great effort and saves it and I’m like yeah that’s what I want to see from my defenders. Love that. But then Ian Pilter in a playoff game like that, a one- nil win and that was a goal and he went and saved it. And then not just the save, the sliding save, but to not have a handball in the box for a PK. That’s also something that was really impressive. And just the story of how he’s out of college, he went to college for four years. He wasn’t like the first pick like Monoda in the super draft. Um comes in like this. He’s not the big He’s not a big name. Comes in and makes a huge impact like that in the playoffs. Like I love seeing that that effort. I love that. Uh obviously the goal Yep with the ball over the top, the heel pass. Uh and then obviously Andre Dryer just smashing that in. It’s going to be fun coming up this weekend to see that match up. SDFC against Vancouver. But getting back to Gaglin Bros. Yes, they are at Snapdragon and they might be at Petco Park December 5th depending upon some of these results that happen. So, just want to help you out with that. All right, let’s get to the comments. Um, by the way, San Diego State basketball, I can touch on them for a moment as well. They got torched the other night. Absolutely torched by Michigan. Then they bounced back. They got a really good win, 67% field goal percentage last night against Oregon. and then they’re playing Baylor coming up in moments to finish out that Las Vegas tourney. So, we’ll see how they do there. But, um, the sky was falling and it’s not falling as much after the win against Oregon. But, Oregon is not Michigan. Like, Michigan got they’ve got some impressive dudes on that team. All right, let’s go through the comments. Glide 7747. Potteries are only going to offer one-year $1 million contracts. I mean, I wouldn’t go that far. like they’re going to probably give a contract more than a million dollars. But yes, that concept. Yes. Because the ownership situation, like why would you give a multi-year deal to someone when the new ownership that comes in may not want that player? You know, you sign someone to a long-term deal. That probably makes the organization less appealing because that’s another contract, another long-term contract in addition to the other contracts that have already been given out that that new ownership has to take off. Um Devin says definitely a big overpay for Toronto. Looks like Bette is definitely off the table now. off the table for other teams or like for us that was never going to happen obviously if I’m Bo like I love seeing the Blue Jays go sign someone like Dylan Case or are you saying Bette for the Blue Jays is off the table for them? I wouldn’t say that. Look how much they offered Otani like they’ve got I know they gave a big contract to Vlad but they’re coming off a pennant. They got a lot of money in the postseason from that. So, I don’t think you’re you’re choosing Dylan CE over Bo Bashette. Maybe they would, but I don’t think you would. What are my thoughts for this upcoming World Baseball Classic? I love the world the WBC. I know there’s some Padres’s fans that don’t want any of the Padres’s playing in it and all that, but I I love seeing players, and this is all sports, represent their countries. I think it’s awesome and but I’m also someone that has a lot of pride in my country. So I’m not one of those Padres’s fans that is like I’m going to root for the DR because that’s where our players play. I I’m still rooting for USA even if the Padres’s don’t have any players on that team. I hope Jackson Merrell’s on the team. But if they don’t, I’m still rooting for Team USA. Like that’s just like I put I put my country ahead during that short span of time because the WBC doesn’t happen every year. Obviously I love our guys, but I do root for team USA. Um like I I remember watching the USA game. I forget who they were playing. Was it was it the DR Puerto Rico maybe? um in Miami, Trey Turner hit the the homer, the go-ahead homer and I was watching on the couch and I jumped up off the couch and was super excited about it. Like I really love watching, you know, our best athletes represent our country. I love that. And just just overall, yeah, I think the World Baseball Classic is awesome. So, I’m excited for it. We’ll see. Um there there’s some pretty good names on the USA squad and obviously I think Otani announced the other day that he will play for Japan. So, it should should be interesting. Um, let’s see. Antonio says, “I’m glad he’s gone.” Talking about cease. We need to get rid of other players. A money says, “What did Schult know about the selling of the team? Released the Schilt fire files.” I don’t really think it was about ownership. Like I I think he was done managing the Padres’s. I don’t think it was about the ownership situation. I think he was done with the situation that he was in. Like that happens sometimes where you’re just done. Like you can love the city but just be done with that situation. Um did he know about the team? Maybe he knew about the selling of the team, but I don’t think that’s at all what affected his decision. Like, he was still going to get paid. He was still going to be the manager of the team. He still was going to have a contending roster because AJ Per does that. Somehow he’s going to find a way. So, yeah, I don’t think it was that. Devin asks, “Are you surprised with the Rangers trading Semian for NMO with the Mets?” That was a random deal for sure, but I like it if I was a Met fan. I know some Mets fans don’t like it because they love Brandon NMO and how long he was a Met and all that. It did seem like NMA really did love being with the Mets, but it is less money in total, I believe, that’s coming to the Mets way with this Semian deal. And Semian does improve their defense. And talk about uh a really good leader of a team, someone you want in the clubhouse. I would want Marcus Semi in my clubhouse. So, I think that could actually work out well. And with the Rangers, they’re um they’re moving in a different direction. It seems like like the payroll situation, they tried to go for it again after winning the World Series and didn’t really work out. So, yeah, that was an interesting one. That that one popped up and I was like, wait, what? Because I didn’t think that someone was going to trade for Seamian when he signs that big deal. I didn’t think NMA was going to get traded. There’s been some interesting things. Sunonny Gay goes to the Red Sox. I’m sure Yankees fans are going to give him a great reception at Yankee Stadium. Maybe Schult does go on. I see in the comments someone uh Johnny says Mike Schult was fired and now he’s going to manage the Orioles in the future. Could this be another Padres situation where he’s in the or he ends up managing the team? Because what if this I totally forget this guy’s name that they hired. Who is the Orioles manager now? The Guardians bench coach. Orioles manager. Craig Albernaz. Yeah. How could I forget that name? Um yeah. If that doesn’t work out in a couple years, would Schult manage again? I don’t know. I don’t know. He probably would like if he got the opportunity he probably would look at it be like, “Man, the Orioles, that’s a historic franchise. Camden Yards, that would be pretty cool. Maybe he’d look at it that way. But if the Orioles, would you be hesitant?” Because with the Cardinals, look what happened with the Padres’s. Look how that ended. I don’t know. All right, my laptop’s about to die, so I’m going to try to speed through these to see if any uh stand out before ending this. Just want to say happy Thanksgiving to everybody. Hopefully everyone has a good weekend, some time off. Um you know, obviously Thanksgiving, it’s a time to be thankful. I try to be thankful all the time for you guys. Um obviously I’m thankful for a lot of things, but I’m definitely thankful for this audience. Whether you’re a Dodger fan or you’re a Padre fan or you’re a neutral fan, I do appreciate it.   1. Mike Shildt quit on SD. Probably got tired of getting his teeth kicked in by the Dodgers, and all the divas (cry babies) in your locker room.

  2. He is happy cutting ties with the shipwreck that is the padres! No chance making the playoffs next year with No Cease, no Darvish, no suarze and Manny and Tatis being who they are.

  3. Pissing away 210 million dollars over 7 years sends a message all right, It sends the wrong message. Dylan will most likely give them innings and strikeouts but I don't know about wins. He has become a five inning pitcher with 10 strikeouts too many walks and a couple bombs allowed with some of those walks on base. The J's panicked and thought he was the difference between a world series victory and coming in second. The chances of just repeating again in a world series this incredibly difficult but to tie it to Dylan? Good luck with that. Now there's talk they may go after the Padres closer but they better come up with more than that and they better hold on to their shortstop too. The Blue Jays are going to be pumping so much money into that team they run the risk of looking like the Padres with a bunch of bad contracts down the road. I'm sure the fans in Toronto are saying the same thing fans in San Diego were saying when the Padres were signing ridiculous checks. WHO CARES !!! Just as long as we get one world series out of those seven years. SOUND FAMILIAR ?? I could come up with a lot of different ways I would have spent that kind of money. Keep in mind they are still going to have to spend a ton more.

  4. I'm sure the Padre budget has been determined but as usual Padre fans will not be privy to what that amount is. They will keep that a secret like they keep everything a secret. I just don't see this ownership doing much of anything this offseason and then we will have the lock out the season after. I'm not expecting good news over the next two seasons. If things work out then great, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

  5. I believe what I heard about the ex-Padres skipper is true. He was fired but given the opportunity to walk away instead. The word is he was impossible to work with, an absolute jerk. That was the same description he left St Louis with when he came to the Padres. Yes his team won in St Louis but he was impossible to work with and not well liked it all. I think the word is out now on him and I wouldn't be surprised if the Padres were the last managerial job he sees, at least for a long while. Coaching yes but in a position of authority where you can be an ass to everyone including the press I don't think so. Look how he spoke to the press imagine how he spoke to people behind the scenes. Let's not make a martyr out of this guy just because he loves baseball.

  6. Mike went to coach in Baltimore because they have a young team and the kids will have to put up with his shit he throws at them unlike veteran ball players. I didn't hear any Padre veterans shedding any tears when he walked out the door.

  7. Padres are a mess. The new owner has a ton to clean up. Let’s not pretend we haven’t overpaid for mediocre players who don’t have the clutch gene.

  8. Let’s not pretend AJ wouldn’t have paid Cease that ridiculous amount if he had a green light to spend. We are broke and in debt and that’s the only thing stopping his recklessness and incompetence when it comes to handing out bad contracts. We don’t have the money. 1 billion in guaranteed player contracts on divas with no clutch gene. And 450 million in debt.

    Mr Magoo was fired. No one can work for AJ. He’s the cancer in the organization. 12 years zero hardware. New owners will have to clean up his mess.

  9. I believe Cease is going to have a strong bounce back with Toronto. Cease had ton of 5 inning starts but so did Seth Lugo, and I put that on your boy Shildt.

  10. I'm guessing the team will be sold before any sizable free agent signings happen. Maybe one contract like Pivettas deal last year but other than that it'll likely be scrapping together guys like Cody Ponce, Newcomb, Ty France, Lamonte Wade etc
