The Brewers are concerned about their 2026 payroll, according to reporting from Will Sammon, Ken Rosenthal and Katie Woo of The Athletic. The reporters then wonder if this will lead the Brewers to more seriously consider trading right-hander Freddy Peralta.

Steal some sand and pound it Mark
Ken Rosenthal trying to stir up drama with the Brewers. An offseason tradition from the sad little man.
Man this is some BS! You went into the LCS last year, where’s that cash!!??
This feels rage bait as hell
Annual dose of rage bait from bow tie boy. Nothing to see here.
Feels like rage bait, sure, but it also wouldn’t surprise me in the least.
What a stupid headline. Imagine if I wrote an article headlined “Local business concerned about finance.”
Since when? Why would they have offered Woody a QO if they had no money for payroll? Seems like a nothing article.
Freddy is on a very team friendly deal not sure why he would be a traded for payroll reasons. If they were trading him it would be for future cost controlled prospects.
Why is this news? This is typical for dipshit MA.
Next time let’s shove Ken into the dugout.
Oo just like ESPN’s Giannis watch all summer
Funny, we’ve been concerned about their payroll for a while now.
Trading Peralta would be the worst payroll move we can make. Not only can we not replace his talent but even a bad starting pitcher makes more than him. If we were that worried about it we wouldn’t have made a qualifying offer to woodruff.
I mean the article basically says that if they want to add additional players they’d need to subtract. It doesn’t say they need to subtract because the current projected payroll is too high.
What else do we actually think this team is going to be able to add? There’s no one out there at SS. Our Bullpen can’t take any more fixed playoff spots.
Megill, Mears, and Peralta were always possible trade chips. I hope we keep them all (although I expected Mears to be non-tendered).
If there is any year to attempt to go for it, it’s this one. You have multiple all-star starting pitchers for the season and it would be asinine to not make sure you have the best team possible. I don’t want to hear them cry poor when they knew what would happen if Woodruff took the QO. Spend some damn money for once
Ya once woody took that 22M QO I figured this was going to come up
I don’t think they give Bauers the contract they did if they are overly worried about current projected payroll.
Dang, at first I thought this was an Onion article.

If this ends up being at all true and they trade Megill / Mears and Freddy as they speculate to save what $4M / $1.6M / $8M to “add” I’m going to piss what the fuck are you even going to add with those supposed saving if you trade them and I don’t view you as a serious competitor after that
