New York Islanders Postgame Availability | NYI vs BOS
I mean, I think we uh we didn’t even play our best game, but put up 40 shots, had some good looks. Swimman played good. We got to get in front of his face a little bit more. And I think our power play is what the difference tonight a little bit. I think we just we needed to get one needed to get one on the power play tonight to bring us closer. And um but overall, we played a solid game. Uh just a couple couple things that went against us and uh ended up in our net. Last last couple games you’re not getting the goals you had been getting. Is it are you getting too cute? you looking to try to, you know, there were times tonight where I thought we could have been a little more simple and uh put the puck in and, you know, we’re trying to make moves at, you know, the blue line and stuff and um when it’s working, it’s working, but when it’s not, you got to got to dumb it down a little bit and I think there was a touch of that in our game tonight. And uh you know, we come we come up short. We we got to find a way to generate and I think we generated shots and opportunities and got to find a way to just bear down on on some of those and and get it get it past them. a little frustrating when you kind of limit them to shots on the game and you don’t get rewarded for it. Yeah, there’s going to be nights like that. This was one of those nights was it was a night where it was frustrating in the sense is we weren’t getting rewarded and uh you know the message on the bench was to keep pushing after this thing and I didn’t think we deviated away from our game and we continued our push all the way to the end. We just we just couldn’t get it past them. Disappointed. Great crowd tonight. Yeah, it was a great crowd. It’s awesome. Um, it’s been it’s been phenomenal here the last little bit and it makes such a difference for us on the ice. Um, we feed off that energy, we feed off our crowd and our fans and and their support and um, lately it’s been huge. There’s a good buzz around here. Um, so let’s have a a good Thanksgiving and we’ll see see everybody on Friday. We seem dangerous. I mean, when we’re when we’re, you know, moving it around well and looking at the net and attacking the net, um, you know, we got a lot of threats out there. So, as long as long as we’re just moving around and, um, creating threats, I feel like we’re always dangerous. We got good players in the unit. You say you’re moving it around. Well, do you think at times though maybe you got to be more simplify things a little bit, get more shots? I don’t know. I think No, I don’t think so. It looked it looked like at at times like you guys are looking for the the perfect pass. Yeah, I mean we’re definitely looking like Bo Horvat shooting from the slot. I mean, if we can get one look at that versus four average looks, I mean, I’ll take that all day. So, we had good looks. I mean, felt dangerous. I mean, everyone in the building knows it’s dangerous. So, just got to find a way. Is it frustrating or disappointing? A great crowd tonight. They, you know, they all came out, they you were a bobblehead and, you know, get the win. Yeah. I mean, you know, I thought there was the quality of hockey that was out there from us tonight was good. I mean, you come to the games, I mean, I know you want to see wins, you know, first and foremost, but you got you got to like watching us right now on the ice. I mean, there’s there’s nice fluidity to our game and, you know, just it’s a nice product on the ice, I think, right now. It’s translated to a lot of lot of wins as of recent. And you know, tonight obviously not, but you know, trying to win every game obviously, but I think when they come to the games and watch, it’s nice to watch. Especially your goal tonight. Can you take me through it? Yeah, I mean just just good poise around the net. I mean, you know, I wanted to shoot and then just kind of didn’t open up and once in a while you get that play, you know, tight and you can kind of tuck it in. So, it was nice. You just got to have a good Thanksgiving and just rebound, right? That’s really what it is. I mean, this game, sorry, this league, uh, things change fast and, you know, games come up and we get a game in 48 hours, it’s a big one against Philly, and that’s just how it works. You know, you lose a tough one, you sulk for maybe an hour and kind of get back at it. So, Patrick, how do how do you explain uh this game tonight when you basically triple the shots on them? Yeah, we played a I thought we played a really good game. I mean, if you’re looking at the time possession, if you’re looking at the scoring chances, um we were the better team on the ice. Um but, um the quality our shots may be going to have to improve, find ways to to bear down on our chances. Um, and sometimes we’re going to have to maybe a little more traffic around the net and stuff like this, but um, we’re going to win more games that we’re going to lose if we play that way. I could tell you that because we played really well defensively. We didn’t give them much. Um, I thought that we um we had that push in the third and then and and we just couldn’t get that one by by their goalie. That’s all because I mean we did a lot of good things. Does that include the power play and how do you get that going? Well, today power play was not as sharp as it was maybe the other games in a way that our entry we were maybe a little too cute. we tried to, you know, force plays instead of of put the puck, you know, um, deep and and get it. But when we did it, we had our looks and and we had our our chances. And again, I mean, it’s it’s um, it’s just a matter of of find ways to to get better shots on net, that’s all. Because we can’t we can’t change our game, you know? We got to keep playing the same way. We just need to be maybe a little bit better around the net and and find ways to to to bear down on those shots because I love the way we’re playing. I wouldn’t trade any of that for for that. When you talk about getting bodies to the net is that how much of that is a mentality and a determination and how much of that is what the opponent does? We do it but we we there’s nights where you got to do it more especially when you have possession. I mean, we I can’t say we didn’t go to the net. We did, but could we have gone there more and and and have that presence in front of, you know, their goalie because but I mean, overall, I felt like we we did it at times, we just need to do it with more consistency. Yeah, I know you’ve said overall tonight aside, you’ve liked the entries, you’d like the ozone possession on for the power play. I said we were not as good on the No, no, no. said before before tonight. Oh, yeah. Before you you’ve been talking about you’ve liked a lot on the power play heading into when it’s not producing like this, do you start to consider just mixing up the personnel just to get a different look maybe? Yeah, it could be a possibility, but right now it is not because the way we’ve been playing. We’ll see. We’ll see. I’ll I’ll sit down with Ray tomorrow and see what he thinks. But um I mean I I I just feel like our power play has been playing really well and sometimes it’s just you know like it’s like our PK right now. Our PK is playing with so much confidence. You know the guys are there and they know they going to do the work. Maybe sometimes just a matter of a little bit of more confidence around the net and then and the power play will click. you get one, you get two. All of a sudden, I mean, you you feel confident and and and then I feel like that’s all is missing because we do we do everything right. Did does that confidence start to be affected even when you know the chances have maybe tonight aside mostly been there, you know, when they’re just not going in or the goalie makes some good saves. Yeah. How how is there a way of fixing that other than just you eventually you might sorry for the expression but sometimes you might have to get an ugly one and and then things start you know confidence come back and then you build around that. What do you make of Barzal’s goal tonight? Yeah, it was really nice. He played a really good game. I mean I thought he was our best player. I mean he he had like he had a lot of jump. I mean he did a really nice job on that play. I mean going around and um I thought he played really well. What have you what have you seen from the offense at five on five this this home stand so far? I think it’s two goals in three. You should ask the question directly. What do you mean? You mean offensively because we score what, two goals? Is that what you mean? Yeah. I I You said you like the way that you’ve been playing, but just what have you seen from the five on five offense? I like the way we’re playing. Yeah, I like the way we’ve been playing. I mean, I like the fact that we have chances. I mean, um, we had what, 19 chances tonight. I like I like our game. I mean, can we would I like to see us score four or five guys goals per game? Yeah, I do. But, I mean, we’re playing against some some good goalenders and we have to find ways to score different ways. That’s all.
Hear from Anders Lee, Mathew Barzal and Patrick Roy after tonight’s game vs Boston.

Like Roy, but when our PP is dead last in the league, changes need to be made.
I think Darche will have zero loyalty for the likes of Lee and Palmieri at the trade deadline. For the first time ever I can see Barzal being traded out west. He's exciting but holds onto the puck too long and way too many turnovers. He needs to move the puck on the PP. Patrick this was NOT a really good game. This felt so similar to the St Louis game. Boston sat back, gave few odd man rushes and counterpunched. They played a simple game and got some bounces. Go to the net? How many times was Lee hit by his own teammates?? The PP should look like this. Set it up and Schaefer shoots immediately and do that over and over again.
Pp needs changes and execution is on Roy but let’s see how they bounce back vs Philly
Barzal holds onto the puck too long on the PP. they need to get a player in front of the goalie to take away his eyes. No front net presence.
These players are so handsome. Look at the jawline.
