Seattle Seahawks vs. Minnesota Vikings: Injury Report, Matchups & Score Prediction | NFL Week 13

The Seattle Seahawks must dominate on Sunday. Show the entire National Football League just how freaking good these Seahawks are. Welcome into Seahawks Today. I am your host, Will Ortner, and we got a big matchup against the Minnesota Vikings over at Lumen Field. Not because this is a game that well really has a lot of playoff picture proceedings with it, but I would say that this could be a potential trap game for the Seahawks. Yeah, I know that you’re favored by 10 and a half in this one. And a lot of that is due to some of the injury news that we’ve heard coming out of Minnesota. But I do think it is important to note that sometimes in the past Seattle has struggled with some of these types of matchups. We’re going to dive into the injuries for the Seahawks, the Vikings, all the key matchups, and give you my score prediction here on today’s show. And we’re going to start over with the key injuries for your Seattle Seahawks. Over at that linebacker position at that mic spot, not just your one starting middle linebacker, but your number two middle linebacker. They are in the injury report for this week. Ernest Jones dealing with a knee injury. He missed the game against the Tennessee Titans. Tyrese Knight, he is expected to practice on Wednesday, that is today, but he is in the concussion protocol. Sometimes those can be a bit finicky on if he’s going to be able to play or not. He did miss the game against the Tennessee Titans. Now, more on these injuries here in just a moment, but I do need to ask you, go on in and join the exclusive Seahawks today gang. You don’t want to miss any videos. go over, find that bell icon, smash it, and then while you’re there, go and scroll down and hit that all button. What’s that going to allow you to do? It’s going to allow you to know the minute that we drop a video on the Seahawks. And you don’t want to miss any of that news because, well, as soon as breaking news happens here on Seahawks today, we let you know about the latest happenings with the Seahawks. So, go in, subscribe to the channel, and join that noty gang. has coming to us from athletic writer Michael Shawn Dugar and he tweeted out when asked about Ernest Jones and Tyrese Knight. Mike McDonald did say that he’s hopeful for both to be available this week. Does look like Tyrese Knight is going to be back on track. He is going to practice later on today. Ernest Jones, he’s still kind of TBD, but it sounds like he’s foaming at the mouth to get back out on the field. Definitely the type of player that wants to play as much as possible. I do think it’s important to note though last week he started out as a full participant on Wednesday. By Friday night, excuse me, Ernest Jones ended up not being a participant in practice and wasn’t able to play in the game. So, I’m okay with Seattle kind of slow playing some of his injury issues. Now, at the time of this recording, there’s been no word yet officially on Julian Love whether he will be active or not for this game. Love is coming off of IR. He’s been dealing with a hamstring injury all season long. And McDonald has made it very, very clear that they do not want to have Love return to the field until he is completely ready to go. They tried to bring him back a little bit too soon earlier on this year. And you weren’t able to have him uh go for well basically the last month, month and a half now because of him coming back too quickly, reinjuring his hamstring, and then having to miss more time. Getting your Pro Bowl safety, a safety that plays at an allp pro level back on the field is going to be huge for this team, especially with how good that defense has been. Now, looking over at the Vikings currently, JJ McCarthy is going through the concussion protocol. He got roughed up a little bit against the Green Bay Packers last week, complained of some issues with his head, and so the Vikings put him through that process. Now, that doesn’t mean that he’s officially out for this game yet. Again, at the time of this recording, there is still a chance of McCarthy playing or this guy over here, and that is Max Bromer. So, will they go with the undrafted rookie free agent potentially? Just depends on where McCarthy is on the protocol, or will they go with McCarthy? What is important to note here though is that if McCarthy does go out there and play, he has had a season where he has very much struggled this season as the starting quarterback for the Vikings. I want to ask you this question though. Right now when you look at it, which team has the worst injury report? In Seattle, you got two middle linebackers that are down in a position group that’s already kind of a little bit weak. Or maybe weak is the wrong word, more so thin. Uh whereas like with the Vikings, they could lose their starting QB, have to go to an undrafted free agent at quarterback. Really, their third string quarterback because Carson Wentz has been hurt for so long. But it’s not like the starting quarterback has played all that well. Let me know whose injury report is worse down in the comments. Now, the big matchup for me to watch in this game is going to be Brian Flores and that Vikings D against Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks O. Now, Darnold has had a very good season so far for Seattle. I mean, shoot, at the midway point of the year, PFF had him as their MVP candidate, and he’s done a great job against most defenses of taking advantage of what they’ve given him. When you look at the stats throughout the year, he’s completing the ball at basically 70%. One of the high marks in the National Football League. He’s been very good about taking care of the football. The interception numbers are much inflated because of how bad that game was against the Rams. We’ll get into that here in just a moment. But by the end of this game against the Vikings, he should be a 3,000yard passer in the National Football League. And he’s got a good shot, which is kind of crazy for a team that doesn’t really throw the football to be one of the passing leaders yardage-wise in the National Football League. But he still has a big issue. And it’s an issue that Brian Flores is going to try to exploit because it fits into the strengths of what he does. What is that strength? I’ll let you know here in just a moment. But before uh we do anything else, I need to let you know about the proud sponsors of today’s video. And that is our good friends over at Price Picks. That’s code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. Prize picks. It’s good to be right. Darnold continues to struggle with pressure. And what do I mean by that? No, I’m not saying that he’s out there saying that he sees ghosts. And I don’t think it’s completely fair to say that he’s the only quarterback that struggles when they are getting pressure a lot, but it is true he does. And in that game against the Rams where you saw a lot of turnovers happen, it was because Darnold felt the pressure from what was happening from that Rams defense. When you look at what Minnesota does, oh man, Brian Flores likes to dial up the heat. According to Sharp Football Analysis, right now the Vikings blitz more than any team in the National Football League. They’re almost at 50% when it comes to blitzes. Now, what does Flores like to do? He likes to come up with a bunch of different confusing styles of blitzes. What does that mean? It means he’s walking up a lot of linebackers. He’s walking up a lot of guys on the edge. And then you don’t know where the pressure is coming from. So, that means offensive linemen, they have to be up to their ears in their communication. They have to know and work through their process and procedure. Hey, if I have that outside guy, that’s where I’m going to stick. But if he doesn’t come, I got to go back inside. Where does your process go? And Darnold has to be aware of where the blitz could be coming from and set his protection to keep himself in the best position possible. This offensive line has to keep Darnold upright because when Darnold is upright, he delivers the football to Jackson Smith and Jigba, to Rasheed Shahed, and the Seahawks win a lot of football games. Also, Darnold has to be okay getting hit every once in a while. I think this offensive line is pretty darn good when it comes to pass. They’re not perfect and you can’t ask them to be perfect. When you play really good teams defensively in the National Football League, the Rams, the Philadelphia Eagles, I mean, shoot, even Tampa Bay when you played them early on before they had all their injury issues, they’re pretty darn good. They can get after the passer, Green Bay Packers as well, right? Sam Darnold has to be comfortable being uncomfortable. He has to prove to us, and I think this is a great opportunity for him to do so, that he isn’t the same Sam Darnold that he was before. that he won’t get uncomfortable just because there’s a little bit of pressure in his face. He’s still gonna deliver a good catchable ball to Jackson Smith and Jigba, AJ Barner, Cooper Cup, Rasheed, Shahed, Kenneth Walker, whoever you want to put their name in there and the Seahawks offense is going to continue to march and get into the end zone. This is a great way of earning some trust back. Now, we’re going to get into my score prediction here in just a moment, but I want to ask you what your prediction for this game is. Look, I think it’s a more difficult game than we may realize. It’s the middle of your three-game stretch where Seattle doesn’t really play anyone all that good. Do you think that the Seahawks keep this one close? Do you think that the Vikings kind of open up a can of you know what in this game? I don’t know. Let me know in the comments down below. Here’s my prediction for this game. I think the Seahawks come in and I think they take care of business against the Minnesota Vikings. I don’t care who’s playing quarterback. I think this defense gets after McCarthy or Brosmer. And I think offensively Darnold, you know, I don’t want to say proves some doubters wrong, but he eases some of the nervousness that some of us fans have around him. And that is he can handle pressure and he can handle pressure well. He’s not afraid of what defenses are going to throw at him. And if there is a little bit of pressure in his face, he’s going to be okay. And he’s going to fire a good catchable ball to an open receiver. 1. I watch these NFC team that have two good receivers. Dallas, Lamb and Pickens, Lions, Amon St and Williams, 49ers have a bunch, as do the Packers. Seahawks have JSN, that's it. Kupp rarely gets more than a couple balls. Just seems it makes it difficult for Darnold.
