Naz is far too highly paid for a player averaging 24 minutes off the bench playing out of position and scoring with poor efficiency.
Naz is an amazing contract if he is playing his correct position and putting up his 6motY numbers on 40% three-point shooting.
We have ourselves to blame for all of the Naz Reid meme shit
Is that Rudy behind Brunson?
He’s pretty much dead center on this chart, so no?
Well this settles the NAW/Naz debate
Trade Randle or Naz for a PG.
Chart shows he’s paid slightly above what he should be getting. Overall he probably should have gotten like 115-120 instead of 125/5.
The roster itself doesn’t make much sense since Randle, Naz and Jaden are all 4s in an ideal world.
On Thanksgiving bro? Go hug your family.
Yes, it was obvious when announced too, but everyone downvoted those that stated it
Yes. Can’t remember the exact episode of The Hoop Collective but Bontemps made a fairly compelling comparison between Naz and Bobby Portis.
No?
Him and Rudy gobert
Hes about on the market now, and if you factor in slight growth its a totally fine contract
Yes, they did overpay Naz, who plateaued two years ago within this regime. Tim Connelly was bidding against himself for Naz services, LOL. Meanwhile, NAW must be somewhere in the good value quadrant.
Here is the deal: Naz’s numbers are severely impacted by his role (coming off the bench instead of starting) and his horrible start to the season (quite possibly related to his mental well being following the murder of his sister right before the season started).
If you pulled this from the last week and a half only you’d probably see him on the other side of the spectrum. I think the way he has been playing the last few weeks as he has gotten out of his funk is what we are paying for. You can’t ignore the poor start, but by the end of the season I see him as being even or a net positive in the aggregate.
Nope. His contract in 2 years will be AMAZING. His current contract is still fair.
Hes had a rough start to the season but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
The collective amount paid to Gobert, Reid and Randle is an issue considering at least 1 of them has to be on the bench at all times.
Is DPM defensive plus minus?
Most people thought he was going to be able to get $30M elsewhere, even Bill Simmons was surprised he only cost $25M a year
Cap is only going up, it was a fair deal
Yes of course. I think most understood this when he got his contract. He has a weird cult like following with the fan base for reasons I don’t really understand. Solid player but 100% overpaid.
Who’s behind Maxey, Wally Szczerbiak?
His slot needed to go to a 6’10-6’11” player with hops. Yes we did draft one, but he aint ready. With Julius at 6’9″ and Naz at about 6’8″ (I think), we need more size after Rudy. That’s what I call a hole in the defense. No players 6’10, 6’11, or 7’0″. (unless Miller can fill that void).
Naz, he’s a total tweener. Probably a SF in reality. Certainly not a center.
this graph isn’t accounting for the vibes
Yes. But that’s almost what we have to do. Minnesota will attract precisely zero free agents of Naz’s caliber or better. We basically have to overpay to keep the same talent.
Now, I’m a MN lifer and do love it here. But to outsiders it is Siberia with crazy high taxes and a culture of losing in every men’s professional sport.
So, if we want a good sixth man, we’ll have to pay them like a good starter.
Overall, his impact is basically league average. He does some things very well and others very poorly.
The real fuck up is giving Naz that contract and then doing nothing to get a real 5 who can play off the bench.
Naz’s contract is probably decent if he’s playing more minutes at the 4. If he’s forced to play the 5, he’s gonna look overpaid.
I’d almost argue we need a true backup center more than we need a point guard.
Ant needs more help tbh. I’d keep Jaden McDaniels and trade everyone.
I read somewhere Naz is not happy about coming from the bench as he wants to be a starter. I think paying him as a starter 4(he’s a great stretch f4) is not overpaid. But paying that amount to a bench guy, it is overpaid.
Twolves are interesting. For other teams, the sixth guy that contributes scoring is mostly guards or wings that can create their own shots, like Monk for Kings, Powell for Clippers, or Clarkson for Jazz back then.
Naz is right in the middle, seems like this graph doesn’t believe he’s being overpaid? Also because of the yearly salary cap increase, never contracts are always going to take more cap % than older contracts. Near the tail end of his contract it’ll be a steal.
According to this, Randle and Naz are similarly overpaid. Also, Lavine really is aterrible contract
