Interesting thought on Takahashi. Giants could take on lesser talented Japanese players to build some history. Takahashi could be a #5 starter/swingman type.

"For a lesser investment, the Giants may also pursue recently-posted righty Kona Takahashi. The 28-year-old (turning 29 in February) spent 11 seasons with the Lions, posting a career 3.39 ERA. He rebounded from a bumpy 2024 in which he went 0-11 with a 3.87 ERA to an 8-9 record and 3.04 ERA last season. Takahashi doesn’t have the swing-and-miss stuff that other Japanese pitchers moving to MLB often boast, but he keeps runs at a minimum by attacking the zone with a low-to-mid 90s fastball, splitter and slider/slurve."

  1. Takahasi is generally considered to be significantly worse than Imai. Like, analysts dont think he could even start in MLB worse. Yakuyu cosmopolitan basically wrote him off as a starter in MLB if i remember right, and hes got more JP baseball knowledge than any american commentators

The Lions are reportedly posting him cause they’re hoping theyll be lucky enough to get anything for him at all. If hes not signed by an mlb team, they’re just letting him walk in FA to another NPB team

  2. No reason to take in worse talent to build a track record when you can take in the best available talent to build a track record. If they start paying top dollar to the best players, then more top dollar players will come imo. I don’t want them to be getting any sub par players, get the best available, or at least try to.

  3. What kind of take is this? If they can’t match dollar for dollar or talent for talent with LA they shouldn’t even try? Why acquire any players at all then? Start trading the talent they do have and wait for the next decade? Weak minded bs. With the playoff structure the way it is you gotta fight to get in and see what happens. The fodgers aren’t unbeatable by any means.

  4. If it’s purely a question of money, no – they cannot compete. More than that, they don’t want to compete.

  5. MLB has to step in and not let the dodgers keep buying all these players it makes the sport not fun

  6. They spent 3 billion dollars on Mission Rock and broke ground at the start of Covid. This isn’t a small market or a mid market team this a top 5 organization. Ownership consist of 35 partners ranging from multi millionaires to billionaires. The local media needs to hold them accountable more. You have guys like Alex Pavolovic making condescending remarks when fans ask when Mission Rock profits will be used for revenue. Dude does that whole stupid laugh and acts like it’s a stupid question and that it’s expected that the profits will only be used to fund further real estate projects. At that point they’re real estate investors first and baseball owners second. In a few years when the A’s move to Las Vegas the Giants will have the biggest market in the country and the owners will probably still make excuses if there is no salary cap.
