Rich Eisen Reacts to the Green Bay Packers’ Pivotal Thanksgiving Day Win Over the Detroit Lions
All right. So, that was a pretty big first game, wasn’t it? Going right down to a one-sore situation in Detroit between two teams separated by a half game. Both teams needing it because neither of them are in first place because the eight and three Bears are surprising and the Packers go in, throw the first punch, and then throw the last one against a Lions team that now has their backs against the wall, but put a pin in that for a second. How about Jordan Love coming up with a four touchdown performance, making sure that this team does come up with their first sweep of the Lions since 2020. It’s Love’s best game since that win in Pittsburgh after a few clunkers. Coming up with zero touchdown games, more often than not over the last month, but not today. Josh Jacobs doing just enough on that run game. Over 80 yards rushing against this Lions team that did get a few people back on defense. Davenport being one, Terry Arnold being another one, and the Packers not only getting some breaks like Aman Ross St. Brown leaving the game in the middle of the first quarter, coming up with zero catches, zero targets before he even left. And Jared Goff coming up with only the fourth time in his career having zero connections in a quarter, none in the first quarter. The Packers came out and hit the lines in the mouth while they also got a touchdown from Jordan Love. They got another break again in this game when 100% there was a false start on fourth and goal and the referees gave a timeout awarded to Matt Laflur when it was clear that he didn’t get it in in time. And then of course they created their own breaks like that last monster conversion. I can’t believe that the Packers went for it on fourth down. Instead of punting the ball back, no timeouts left for the Lions, making them go the length of the field. Matt Laflur said, “Screw it. I’m going to go ahead. I’m going to go for it on fourth down.” I honestly thought they were going to get the Lions to try to get the Lions to jump off sides like they did before taking the timeout. Instead, they snap the ball and what a stones throw from Love to Dantavian Wixs who had his best game of the year, just shy of a 100 yards and a couple of touchdowns and that huge conversion that essentially ended the game. And that’s why I thought it’s been nuts over the last few weeks when the Packers lost at home to the Panthers and the Packers lost at home to the Philadelphia Eagles that there were some in Green Bay wanting the floor to give up the play calling, wanting the floor to maybe even be on a hot seat. And instead, what ended up happening is the Packers won for the 31st time in week 12 or later since 2019 since Matt Laflur has been the head coach of this team. They win in big-time spots. They win in big-time spots when you have to get it like say Thanksgiving Day in Detroit, as I said, to sweep the Lions for the first time since 2020. And now what the Packers do is they take a happy trip home to Green Bay, watch the rest of their Thanksgiving games, enjoy the rest of their Thanksgiving weekend, and hoping that the Philadelphia Eagles bounce back from that uh crushing loss in Dallas last week, and beat the Chicago Bears. If that happens, the Green Bay Packers would be a half game in front in the NFC North going into next week’s game against, yes, the Chicago Bears in Lambeau Field. the first of two times that the Packers see the Bears over the next three weeks. They are home against the uh Bears in week 14. They visit Soldier Field in week 16 and have a game in week 15 against the Denver Broncos. A massive three-game stretch for the Green Bay Packers. But what they did needed to do first is get that win in Detroit. And one more time, we got to give it up for what they did. making the plays, going deep to Christian Watson at one point. Also on defense, Micah Parsons. Holy crap. In that first game against Detroit, if you recall, he was on a snap count. He was dealing with a lower back issue. He had just gotten to Green Bay. Had just beginning to get comfortable. He might have not even been out of moving boxes at that point in time. But right now, he has settled in and another two and a half sack performance for number one, who is making his case to be a finalist in the defensive player of the year category, hoping that somehow someway someone can block Miles Garrett when the Cleveland Browns are on the field defensively. But give it up to Green Bay. They got it done. They’re 83 and one. As for the Detroit Lions, let’s hope that Aman Ross St. Brown can come back in time. Normally when you play on Thanksgiving, you get a mini buy, but next week their game is on a Thursday night. Only one week’s worth of rest on a Thursday night game. They are taking on Dallas next. We’ll see obviously what’s going to happen between the Cowboys and the Chiefs later on today. But the Lions lose at home. They clearly need Frank Ragnau back right now. They clearly need help protecting Goff. They clearly tried to keep running Jir Gibbs up the middle on this Stout Packers defense. That didn’t work. Couple of things that they also did that did not work. Going for it on fourth down. I don’t understand why sometimes this coach Dan Campbell who is as great as they come. This guy is as good as it gets. As I said, I just don’t understand sometimes how his aggressivity can’t be dialed back from spinal tap 11 to about 10 or nine. and you kick a field goal. As it turned out, they still needed a touchdown to win this game at the end of the day, even if they did kick a field goal at that point in time in the fourth quarter. But it does stunt momentum. It does give you a little bit less of amount of hope against a Packers team that was feeling it on a day like today. Defensively, can they get even healthier at some point? Kirby Joseph, one would think, is going to come back. The problem for them is again that they have now lost the season series to the Green Bay Packers who do have a tie. So at some point in time they would have to get better than Green Bay in order to um in order to try and win this division that does appear now to be up for grabs between Green Bay and Chicago. There’s still a lot of football to be played, but the Detroit Lions have a game against the Cowboys next. And then after that, they have got to come out here to Los Angeles to take on the Rams. And that is not going to be an easy task. They do have a game against the Bears to finish up the season in Soldier Field. They do take on the Vikings as well, which at this point in time does appear to be a winnable game. As you can hear, my dogs are barking. They are also barking in Detroit right now, hoping against hope that over the final five weeks of this season, they can gain something of the first five weeks of this season when they were winning four games in a row after their season opening loss to Green Bay. But today was a brutal loss for them at home, a massive win for the Green Bay Packers. It’s going to now come down to, it seems, the Packers and the Bears, but who knows? Let’s see what the Lions can do to try and get a wildcard spot and make some hay from there. Obviously, they’re going to have to start rooting against the San Francisco 49ers who at 8 and4 are a game and a half in front of the Lions right now entering week 14. Let’s chat again later for a little bit more of Thanksgiving Reviews. Signing off for the moment.

We might shine a lot, but we still have a hard time in 3rd and mid. MLF really struggles with that and his time management, which was seen today. He's a great play designer imo, but he shouldn't be in charge with time management when it matters.
Only thing I quibble with is his claim that we Packers fans want the Eagles to beat the Bears tomorrow. The Pack has the Bears twice still, so we can do that on our own. I'd much prefer the Eagles take an L all things considered.
The Detroit Lions, your 1957 NFL Champions!!!
Tell Chris he was wrong about Jordan
Watching Rich reactions at the end of the night…after an amazing turkey day. Doesn't get much better than this, boys!
Besides my Lions losing, I really wanna see Packers vs Cowboys in the playoffs.
Did the lions drop a fourty burger?
No
They played a real defense.
Rich – LaFleur yelled the time out call several times before the snap – don't have to make the "T" with your hands
Come on that "timeout" was such insane BS. As a Lions fan it feels like there is no point. We just want a fair game and its not like the Packers need that help, they have a good team every year. I cant help but feel like they blatantly cheat my team all the time and just go π€·ββοΈ too bad.
"Aggressivity." Is that a word? Aggression, maybe???
That Grossi/Perna Bowl is gonna be awesome!
Love is pretty good
let me say Mr. Eisen I see how you have influenced all the "speakers" out there. You simply speak. Others, well do not have that skill oh and GO PACK
Rebuild the Silverdome.
Thanks for opening the segment with you chewing some food.
Lions need to draft a qb to sit and watch behind Jared Goff and they might just be ok
Packers were gifted two TDs
So tired of this season already.
Rich is a lowkey GB fan for real! GPG
Stats wouldnβt show it because of like 6 drops, but Jordan Love had a really good game against the Giants also.
The bears could just as easily be 4-7
"Dan Campbell, who is as great as they come."
Except he's not. He's aggressive, but it's clear over the last few weeks that the play calling of Ben Johnson was the reason why being so aggressive worked in the past.
Dan Campbell is not βas good as it gets.β Dan Campbell is not βjust aggressive.β Dan Campbell is reckless and his recklessness cost his team critical games. Why canβt the NFL media just say that?
Packers looked pretty good but keep in mind that the Lions are making weaker teams look good. The lions have zero pass rush and have some strange lingering injuries like the Kirby Joseph knee injury which oddly is called a knee bruise but he has missed so many games he could of had full on knee replacement surgery and gotten out on the field sooner.
Every talking Aman Ra injury like packers are without Kraft Reed Jenkins and golden. Injuries suck and Aman Ra is a stud but keep real both ways
It's fun to continually (probably not any more) watch analysts sleep on Green Bay and their defense. Do they dominate every week?.. pretty much. Their three losses are a TOTAL of nine points. TOTAL. If the offense shows up, no one is beating them.
Hey Rich. Matt called a nice game yesterday but don't tell us that he has many bad games. More than a professional should have.
Another thing If you you are going to call out the false start on GB then mention the very obvious PI committed a few minutes earlier when Watson's left arm was being held back from making a catch on 3rd down and continuing a drive instead the Packers had to punt. You are cherry picking.
Lions need an overhaul on both sides of lines of scrimmage. They have been dominated by everyone lately at the line of scrimmage. Fix that and you have a completely different team. Look at what the giants and eagles did at the line of scrimmage the last 2 weeks against the Lions.
Bears look like the team to beat right now. Packers are just meh. Lions made them look better than they have all year.
Idk why you keep calling Loveβs last few games clunkersβ¦ he was lights out against the giants. The stat sheet may not show it, but if his receivers catch the balls that hit their hands itβs one of his best statistical performances – not to mention playing through a shoulder injury that has sidelined other qbs this season. Leadership, grit, and execution- he was the best of Farve and Rodgers combined in that one.
Lions have and have had talent never got calls or coaching competence simultaneously. SOL think differently prove me wrong. Donβt waste your life on the entertainment of the NFL as a lions fan. There will be nothing but sorrow and regret. Think differently? Prove me wrong or keep it moving.
I thought its Green Bay homefield Lions never have a lead in this game
The Packers are ready for the Big Show
Going deep without kerby without St Brown stop it we gone see
The NFL gifted the packers 14 points. What a joke of a league.
π³πππ ππππ π ππ π ! π΅ππ πππππππ ππ πππ ππ βπΎ
With a touch of the nfl refs lending a 14 point swing
the blatant missed call on the pass interference by Detroit was just as bad as the timeout call
Lions fans being cry babies, classic
The Lions are out of the playoffs. No way they make it now. Just fast forward to next season already. We need a new QB.
"Thanks for that"! So much better than when Chris Whatshisname keeps interrupting like a 13 yr old brat π
Rich relax man, making excuses. Smh. what about the 3 blaintant DPI calls that never were called on lions. Refs were garbage, GB dominated most the game despite being 1 score game
