Postgame Report: Bengals Dominate Ravens as Joe Burrow Returns in 32-14 Win

Joe Burrow is back and so are the Bengals. Hi again everyone and welcome in to Cincinnati Bengals Talk. I’m James Renee of Bengals Talk.com. Happy Thanksgiving and Bengals fans certainly have a lot to be thankful for. A big big win in Baltimore as the Bengals well they lead almost wire towire. Controlled the game for most of the night 32 to4 over the Baltimore Ravens. Joe Burrow back, the Bengals back and suddenly well things could get pretty interesting as the Bengals defense steps up big. And that’s what’s wild about this is Joe Burrow’s back. You would imagine that that means oh well Joe Burrow played well and led this offense to victory and he did play well I thought especially in the second half moved well. Uh the red zone offense leaves something to be desired. We’ll get to that in a bit. But this defense, Al Golden, this defense forcing not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, five turnovers plus a turnover on down. So, I’m going to call it six. Six turnovers on Thanksgiving. Boy, oh boy. Pumpkin pie and turkey legs for everyone. That well, that that honestly is a turnover for every hour that the Bengals were stuck at at CVG trying to get to Baltimore. Their plane was delayed. They didn’t get to Baltimore till uh right around midnight uh on on Sunday or on Thursday morning, excuse me. It feels like a Sunday. On Thursday morning, didn’t matter. This defense stepped up and played great. And look, that that is a heck of a performance against the Ravens. I I don’t care what version of Lamar, if he’s less than 100% or whatever you want to say, heck of a performance against the Ravens to hold Lamar Jackson to 17 of 32, one interception. He had two fumbles and that’s it is the Bengals first four fumbles in this game. They were opportunistic. They pushed the envelope. They they did what they needed to do. And the other thing they didn’t do is they did not There were multiple points in this game where I thought things were shaky. You go into halftime after forcing three turnovers and this red zone offense is just stuck in the mud. They’re stuck in the mud and it’s like, “All right, well, what’s going to happen here?” Oh, well, the Ravens get the ball coming out of the half. How many of you were like, “Oh, well, the Ravens are going to go score. They’ll take advantage of this and then they’ll have the lead.” I think a lot of people felt that way and the Bengals forced them to go three and out and then the Bengals go downfield. And who else but Tanner Hudson with a huge one-handed catch for the touchdown that really broke things open on offense and it gave Joe Burrow what he needed. It gave this Bengals offense some momentum, but the defense is what held it down. And they gave up an opening drive touchdown and I was like, “Here we go. This is Lamar.” Lamar ran it a little bit. Derrick Henry had the the 20 plus yard touchdown run. And I’m just like, “Here we go.” And then they forced the fumble. Then they forced a punt. Then they forced another fumble. They forced a punt. Then they forced a fumble. And guess what? You’re going into the half like that. Isaiah Likely, by the way, was the one that that forced that fumble or that had that fumble. The biggest one of the game where he’s going into the end zone and Jordan Battle forces that fumble a ton of credit. I mean, there were multiple plays on defense where it felt like a big play was about to happen. Dax nearly gave up a huge play deep downfield. He was beat and he fought through it, caught up to the receiver and knocked it away at the very last second. those type of plays. Miles Murphy, they give up a huge run where Barrett Carter just gets beat at the end of the third quarter to Derrick Henry. And guess what? Miles Murphy is the one tracking it down. And whether it was Joseph Osai, Miles Murphy, multiple guys getting pressure on Lamar Jackson, confusing Lamar Jackson, making it tough for Lamar Jackson. And so, yeah, it’s it’s cool. As I’m recording this, I’m looking at Joe Burrow on the NBC broadcast with Jamar Chase and this entire defense. It looks like, honestly, it looks like the entire Yeah, entire starting team. I mean, it’s it’s there’s so many guys over there right now. And I think that’s cool. And that’s what this was is it was a team win because the defense did its part. They forced five turnovers plus a turnover on downs, a bunch of punts. The offense did their part after struggling early. And I think that’s an important element here. When you’re Joe Burrow and you’re this team and you look up and it’s 12 to7 at the half and you’re one of 10. Joe Burrow was one of 10 in the red zone for three yards and Osai Joseph Osai forces the strip early on the the second possession of the game for Baltimore. You have the ball at the two- yard line and you can’t punch it in. Four straight plays you can’t punch it in. That momentum losing that momentum sometimes makes you force it. Joe Burrow didn’t force it. Joe Burrow let the game come to him a bit. He didn’t get overly anxious. He didn’t look up and say, “Man, Lamar’s coming.” He trusted himself. He trusted the offense. He trusted the process. And I think that’s a big element of this. Tonight, he started four for four for 34 yards on the Bengals opening drive. The rest of the first half was rough. He was 11 of 28 for the rest of that half. He finished 15 of 32 in the first half for a buck 65. And it was 12-7. And you’re like, “Well, what is going on?” Well, I’ll tell you what’s going on. The defense held it down enough and then the offense caught up and they scored two big second half touchdowns to start the half and and that’s it. When you do that, even though Baltimore scored on their second possession of the half, you grab the momentum. So, they go up 19-7. Baltimore scores. It’s 1914. Joe Bro calmly leaves them downfield. eight plays, 68 yards, has his best throw of the night, third and nine. Andre Yosvage, 29 yard touchdown. Boom. That’s when you look up and you’re like, “All right, you really got this one on ice now where like you can put it away.” And it was 26 to 14 at the time. And so, yeah, this there’s a lot to like about this win to go on the road to control that game the way they did on defense, to force the turnovers, to be opportunistic. what Al Golden’s doing pressure-wise certainly working. And you look at it, Jordan Battle led the way with eight tackles. Had the force fumble like I mentioned, which was really huge. Dax Hill, two pass breakups, eight uh six tackles. But then after that, this is what I like. Joseph Osai, two sacks, two tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, one forced fumble. You have Jaylen Davis with a forced fumble coming up off the practice squad. DJ Turner had the fumble recovery on that one. You have a bunch of guys with pass breakups. Miles Murphy had the pressure on the fourth and eight. I mentioned the the turnover on downs. Miles Murphy had the pressure there to to force that. Miles was all over it again. And and that’s what I I keep noticing him. Osai had a big game. And I think it’s just it’s huge. It’s huge for this defense to be able to get some pressure because when you do that, even if your linebackers are still struggling, it’s going to make life easier. It’s going to make life easier on your secondary. It’s going to make life easier on everybody else. And so that’s the key here is finding ways to get pressure. They got pressure on Lamar Jackson who didn’t look comfortable for most of the night. And who would have thought that this Bengals defense would be a big reason why they won in Baltimore. We still have plenty to dive into including some money. We will do that. But first, I have to tell you about Sleeper because Sleeper is going to make life so easy. I uh I heard Dave Lapam say something the other day on on the Bengals booth podcast and this was after he kicked the 63 yard. He was like, “For my money, that’s the best kicker in the league.” And I’m thinking about it and I’m like, “Yeah, he might be the best kicker in the league.” And and I, you know, someone’s going to name someone else or whatever, but to go six for six to play the way he did in those in that those elements, in that situation, and and to to just consistently field goal after field goal after field goal, uh, it’s just money Mac. And that includes a 52 yard, by the way. Some of them were short, but that includes a 52 yer. By the way, look, this this team right now feels pretty complete. Jamar Chase, seven catches uh over 100 yards. I I thought that the way they’ve used Chase Brown continues continues. Um well, honestly, they haven’t used them enough. I I I thought early in the game, especially that second drive on the goal line where they turn the ball over on downs, I wanted Chase Brown to get a touch. So, AJ Pine had 14 carries tonight. I thought that was odd. Uh 14 carries for 39 yards. Chase Brown 15 carries for 78 yards, averaged 5.2 a pop. And um yeah, I I really I I just I like what I’ve seen from Chase Brown as a runner. Fine with giving him more uh opportunities. Uh a couple of other notes. All right, so Jamar Chase, seven catches, 110 yards. Had a 43 yard catch that was huge. I mentioned Andre Yosvage’s big play, that big touchdown. Had two targets, one catch. Mitch Tinsley had two targets or nine targets, only two catches. I think those are coming. They were close on a few of them. Uh we’ll see if that happens. I I overall this this passing game it’s it’s going to pick up. Joe Bro threw it 46 times tonight. He was 24 of 46 for 261, two touchdowns, 83.7 quarterback rating. To me, they ran a lot of plays. And I think that’s what I I saw some tweets of, well, they’re 15 of 32. That was Joe Burrow’s passing in the first half. He completed 15 of 32 passes. I’m like, “Yeah, but they they’ve ran a lot of plays.” And that’s something this Bengals team, especially this year, hasn’t done well. They possessed the ball for nearly 39 minutes. They won the time of possession. So, if you win the turnover battle, and you’re winning the time of possession battle, you should win the game. You had six more first downs than the Ravens. Just completely dominating. Completely dominating. You were 42% on third down, eight of 19, one of two on fourth down. You held the Ravens to three of 10 on third down, and one of two on fourth down. That that’s it. Now, I get it. The red zone, it can be painful, and it was. And that’s why this was an even an even more dominant win, but this was the Bengals controlling the game. Yes. Did they had the ball bounce their way a few times on some turnovers early? Absolutely. But you got to take advantage of it. And they did. And when the door seemed open for the Ravens to get back in this game, like last year when they did in both of these matchups where Baltimore kicked the door in, found a way to win both of them, the Bengals did the opposite. They said, “Yeah, the door is open. We’re going to slam it and then we’re going to put uh some Loctite on it.” And you, it is not opening up on Thanksgiving night. So, the Bengals, where are they? Well, they’re 4-8. They’re 4-8. It’s still an uphill climb. There’s no doubt about it. But this is a big big win for your Cincinnati Bengals and we’re going to have you covered every step of the way. 1. Bengals win and it wasn’t burrow who did it as I stated before when everyone was saying we need him back, if the defense played this way with Flacco in we wouldn’t of lost. I like burrows he’s one of my favorite QBs and my point is to all Flacco haters he was putting u TDs the defense was the problem and still is. And our offense looked worse thanksgiving that when Flacco was in we won because field goals not offensive TDs

  2. All of you who cover the Bengals deserve this. Week in and week out trying to find something positive to keep us all from falling back into the same OL Bengals mentality. Thanks James

  3. So did Trey Hendrickson just fully quit on the team or can he be expected back? At this point all that crying to steal 20 million dollars in the name of Jesus

  4. So impressive they did this without Trey Hendrickson. The last 2 years, opposing offenses constantly moved the ball down the field with absolutely no resistance in the secondary nor pass rush, but Bengals defense are finally make playing offense against them look difficult. I still want Duke Tobin gone and to get a real GM and more scouts.

  5. Just gotta bring up the fact that Al Golden finally decided to be aggressive with his play calling. Massive game for him and just a beautiful day for us fans. We really needed this one.

  6. Anyone else notice the look on Burrow's face and his body language after the Ravens' initial touchdown? The camera focused on the bench where Burrow, shaking his head up and down, seemed to convey the idea that he and his team were not to be denied. He brings the steady, calm leadership this team needs.

  7. WOW is all I can say .That was one of the best games the Bengals played. It's still up in the air if somehow this team Will get a playoff spot. If they can keep playing like that This could possibly happen. Great job Bengals and let's Keep winning.

  8. James when given the opportunity, PLEASE frame a question around the defense and blitzing because that's all my section has been saying! Rushing the quarterback normally works better than letting them carve you and rely on the secondary 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 Also Also shout out to every half-baked fan that couldn't understand the difference in play that Shiesty brings so yall said we didn't need him 😂🤦🏾 Who Dey
