John Harbaugh on Falling to the Bengals on Thanksgiving | Baltimore Ravens

Hey, obviously congratulations to the Bengals. They played a winning football game and uh deserved the victory. We did not play a winning football game and that’s what happens when you don’t play winning football. So disappointed in that. Uh we’ll pull ourselves together and get ready for Pittsburgh coming in here. Everything we want to accomplish is still in front of us and uh we’ll go to work on the next game. Every game stands alone. Uh this one we’ll put behind us and uh we’ll look forward to what we can accomplish going forward. What questions you have? Um Tonight Lamar had three turnovers. Something that doesn’t happen very often with him. Has Lamar over the past few has Lamar looked like Lamar to you? Just when you turn the ball over as much as we did tonight. That’s that’s the story of the game. You know, we’ve got to do we just can’t do it. You can’t do it if you want to win football games. John, did Cincinnati do anything different? I know the turnovers of course. Did they show you anything different defensively that you weren’t expecting? No. John, were you happy with um how much you ran the ball tonight? I think in the second quarter, you try to do what you can do to win the game. I mean, if they’re going to put a bunch of people up there, we had a lot of open guys and you saw, you know, opportunities to score. I think we had two of them called back that were that were the result of throwing the ball against the looks they were giving us. So, it’s a matter of finishing those plays and putting them in the end zone. John, what can you tell us about the foot injury? Uh Nate’s injury is not uh serious in terms of even long-term injury. I don’t know if it’ll be next week or what. We’ll have to see where that goes. Uh and then Chandler is a more serious knee injury. John, what was the Speaking of injuries? What do you have any update on Justice Hill? He suddenly was hurt. He was on high. He had a pretty neck thing that was kind of bothering him and all of a sudden it uh it caused some issues and they went and looked at he’s got a he’s got a disc issue. It’s going to keep him out for a few weeks. John, I mean, the Jets and the Bengals before you guys played them, not very, you know, high statistic defenses. Um, we hear a lot from Todd Monkin after games. Got to scheme better, got to coach better, got to execute better. Do you see evidence that that can happen after especially the last two performances? Of course. Of course. Absolutely. It’s a it’s a National Football League. I mean, anybody that watches the National Football League, is a fan of the National Football League or covers the National Football League or watches the other games understands it’s a week- toeek league. John, is there any reason for you inclar accuracy issues over recent weeks? I just think you try to do the best you can from play to play and game to game to execute and make plays. Is he fully healthy? Fully healthy. Uh, yeah, he’s fully healthy to play. Yeah, absolutely. Okay, John, I guess what would you wanted to see the offense do better against some of those cover zero looks that Cincinnati? Well, I mean, you you put it all together. You like to be able to make them pay for it, you know, get the ball in somebody’s hands quickly or or, you know, pick it up and extend the play if you can. I mean, all those things are what you try to do. We did not do a good job of that tonight. John, you preached turnovers all year ever since going back to the summer. Is there is it just reminding them or like how frustrating is it kind of that? It’s just one of those kind of games. I mean, we had a bad game with that, you know, we did not protect the football. It’s not it’s not good, you know. It’s it’s it’s on me. I’m a coach, you know, and my job is to make it clear to the guys that that’s not that’s not okay. You know, you put the ball away, you protect the football. That’s that’s how it’s done. And then, you know, you catch it, you put it away, you you finish the you finish the run, you do whatever you got to do to protect the football because that’s job one. I mean, that’s that’s what wins and loses games. Our guys know that. Everybody knows it and it’s my responsibility to make sure they understand that and that we practice it that way every single day and it carries over to the game. John, we talked early in the season about there were some games where you feel like the defense was just on the field for too many plays. Did you feel like that happened again tonight? They kind of I haven’t thought about it that way, child. I haven’t thought I’ll take a look at that though as we look at it tomorrow, but I haven’t thought of it that way this quick after the game.     It’s been a mess of a season. After week 6 the schedule got favourable and now we gonna face real teams again.

    Missing the playoffs would be the best thing for this team. This organisation needs a reset.

    You don't strategiz and when you & your OFC cannot and will not stick to the run game!

    Like how MANY times does Harbaugh have to learn about running the ball especially when its working amd the defense is NOT GOOD!

  11. That is an embarrassment on your own home field losing to the 3-8 bengals. Their was no offense to score but love to turnover the ball and didn't even lead on time of possession. You guys don't deserve to be conference leader and I can see you getting beat by the Steelers the way you guys are playing and the play calling is horrible by the coaches. It is time for a change in players, coaches and leadership where you're just an average team and not ELITE. Every year you guys beat yourself with stupid plays and turnovers which why you can't win a CHAMPIONSHIP.

  12. I saw a good game out of Lamar. Jackson and the baltimore way that's my team. I also saw the bangoes. Defense, run to the right side of the offensive line where is weekend delivery. Them guys played hard, tough and did they did best. I'm proud of the ravens

  13. Ravens fucking suck. They could have kept the ball in Henry hands, but they decide to go heavy pass and run Lamar who is already hurt. Smfh. Ownership if they are listening John Harbaugh, Monken, Orr should be fired. All this talent on the field and loose to a 3-8 team with the worst defense in the league.

  25. Lamar was horrible AGAIN. We couldn't stop Burrow. The WORST D in the league shut us down. Five turnovers lead to getting PISSED on. A little fun fact to chew on. IF a Coach/QB tandem don't get to the SB in their first 5 years together, they DO NOT get there. Year 8 for Harbs and Lamar. Ain't gonna get there.

  26. The o line should've been fixed last year. Fire decosta, harbs monken zack orr. Need young coach like a ben Johnson but jon gruden is available. Let's bring a new regime a fresh restart with 4 picks for o line in the draft. This year is a wash no chance the offense is going to bring enough points. Yes they make 20 points and over top 10 but that's because of the defense. But when you play against the playoff defenses and nfc offenses you have no chance to win

  28. This season is a failure. We had chances to make the Super Bowl but we continuously make mistake after mistake. We don’t have a championship everybody fumbles everybody is to blame. We need a new Coach and New Culture.

  30. Lamar invites his own bad luck by carrying the ball like a loaf of bread and trying to throw through defenders. Superior athlete, but definitely no "field general."

  31. Need to replace this dumb couch and get back Flacco, Lamar is washed up had many years to get it but he just don’t want it anymore. Just take your money and leave it to some that wants it bad

  33. 14 points against the worst defense in the league. Part of the issue, two bad turnovers but that fumble with the arm going forward and the OPI on Zay. Were horrendous calls and that’s why you can’t play that bad because if calls go that bad. You are cooked

  35. FAFO. Mahomes consistently finds a way to win, Lamar consistently finds a way to screw up when games matter most. He is blessed with talent but cursed mentally…not a winner (when it really counts). A quarter billion for this? Too often he FAFO. In Jets game immediately after we got a turnover he threw into triple coverage and got away with it. Next game he had same poor decision making and got intercepted. This game he “fumbled” at crucial time so close to his own endzone. Defense bailed him out but still he, Likely, and Flowers combined to blow the game. I feel worst for Derrick Henry and D’andre Hopkins, they deserve better. Also the defense did its job for as long as it could. Imo, unless or until he resolves some mental blockages to winning he will continue to be his own worst enemy. How many times must we see “the Ravens beat the Ravens?”

  37. John is right; this is a week to week league. And week to week, this offense has been bad. Lamar is obviously hurt and we were hear more once they go home after week 18. Playoffs are a pipe dream if there is 1 more loss.

  38. All the haters get a chance to come out. People who come out and make comments like Fire Harbaugh after a game like this are dumb!
    The coach at this point, at this level is not responsible for fumbles. He’s nit responsible for tipped balls.
    The Ravens should have blown the Bengals out last night.
    They even had a chance down 15 and I had turned it off and turned back in as they were about to score and Zay fumbles.
    Lamar – 3 turnovers
    Zay – 1 turnover ; 1 bad OPI
    LIKELY – turnover
    There is NOTHING a coach can do about that.
    And Henry was off the field to rest and the scatback scored a TD.
    Best use of RB’s all season.
    Go back to Ohio or Pittsburgh or wherever your team is.
    You are not a Ravens fan.
