That means he’s not shooting enough. It like seeing hit stats, you can only get hits when you don’t have possession.
He’s really good young talent, he could be a real force. Instead he’s stuck on a team that’s decided that grinding their way to an early round exit from the playoffs on the back of middling vets is the way to go. It stinks!
Ok now sort by total shots; this kind of stat is the definition of small sample size. Wright is cool and good but by this measurement whoever Simon Holmstrom and Stephen Peat are should be considered elite snipers.
To quote the old axiom, “Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades”.
Shane’s shooting % has been high his whole career (even though it’s down this season) — he needs to shoot more
The thing keeping him from getting more minutes isn’t his shot though, it’s his defense and 37% faceoff percentage
He needs to take advantage of the limited ice time he is being given and shoot the puck more. The experiment with him at wing should help him have less defensive responsibility and (hopefully) free him up to get involved with the offense more
This team is at a bit of a crossroads with Shane — they need to commit to getting more out of him or make the hard decision to trade him. I know that’s not what anyone wants to hear, but he’s 21 and he’s getting less than 14 minutes a night most nights. If that’s what he’s going to be stuck doing, he’s likely more valuable as part of a package to add high-end offense to our top-6
