He’s 2nd behind Shai in drives and 30th in Free throw attempts. However around the entire league the FTA are up but somehow he’s getting less than last year, normally this wouldn’t be a problem but KAT also has one of the Worst whistles in the league, it’s honestly just making our two best scorers work even harder not to mention Brunson is the smallest superstar in the league, I feel like that he already has to work twice as hard for a shot.

  1. I beg to differ, he flops a lot and gets make up calls after complaining. Worst part of his game.

  2. I’ve never subscribed to the idea that the refs are against the Knicks. Brunson drives a lot, but he’s not really attacking the rim. He’s more of a drive into the paint, from where he makes a pass or confuse opponents with his majestic foot work and scores over them. I think for the pass two seasons now the league has gotten more physical; they’re letting defenders defend, which is a good thing. What we need is less foul attempts for Shai, no more foul attempts for the other stars.

  3. I’d rather a low FTR than watch him flop like a fish. The less he pursues contact the more shots he makes and that pays off better for our offense than trying to draw fouls. He lacks the length of Shai and Harden that make them so unmatched in converting and-1s. I feel like when Brunson goes for contact he misses the shot more often.

  4. Makes sense. He’s not someone who attacks at the rim. He’s an elite pull-up hitter. Pull-up hitters are never going to get the same amount of calls as some who is finishing at the rim.

  5. If its true someone should compile footage and send it to the league. Didn’t they do that for Shai years ago?

  6. I feel like they don’t want to give Kat any calls so by association they don’t wanna give Jalen Brunson his calls. That’s what I think.

  7. He’s gotten a terrible whistle this season, I agree. The problem for me is that he just seems to not fall in either box of a “big whistle” (where a bigger body initiates or draws contact) or a “small whistle” (where a player is thrown around more easily by minimal contact). It’s almost like his toughness and drawing contact in the lane works against him in that context. Refs just can’t seem to referee him correctly; it’s super bizarre. I have never seen a player bounce between having 3, 4, or 5 FTs per game 8 games out of 10 and then getting 10+ the other two like he does. You’d think the NBA would do a better job drawing a line in the sand for Brunson like they have for seemingly every other star in the league, but (as usual) he’s flying under the radar and neglected in that aspect.
