IS PHOENIX READY FOR THIS SMOKE? SGA Leads OKC Into Big Match vs Booker!
You’re listening to the Bring the Thunder podcast. A podcast by fans for fans. Yes, you are indeed. And welcome back to the Bring the Thunder podcast. I’m here with Sapia. We’re going to do a little game preview. Thunder hosting the Phoenix Suns tonight, 8:30 Central time, and the return of Jaylen Williams is officially upon us. Super excited for tonight. Jub back in the starting lineup. With that being said, these starting lineups are expected as for the Phoenix Suns, Connor Gillespie, Devin Booker, Dylan Brooks, Royce O’Neal, Mark Williams, uh, Grayson Allen, Ryan Dunn, and Jaylen Green. All out for the Phoenix Suns tonight. For OKC, we have SGA, Lou Dort, JDub, Chad Homegrren, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Aaron Wiggins remains out for OKC. So, that injury list is getting cut down day by day here. Hopefully Wigs can get back soon and obviously Nicola Topic as well. Um Satir, the Phoenix Suns are coming off, they’ve been kind of playing well recently actually. They’re coming off a win against the Kings uh and a loss against the Rockets, but they’ve been playing pretty well and their fans are getting pretty excited. Uh I I’ve been seeing especially on Twitter. Very confident team, very confident fan base right now. Obviously OKC’s looking to extend their 10ame winning streaks at Beir. Let’s go right into our first segment of the pregame show and it’s called overrated, underrated, XFactor, and favorite. Give me an overrated player for the Phoenix Suns. Uh, you’re on mute. I was going to say this is a really tough one to choose. Um, because it’s really hard to find an overrated player. I would say, man, I would say they’re overrated. Instead of an overrated player, I’m going to choose an overrated theme as I did last time with the XFactor. And I would say their playmaking is overrated. They don’t really have like a go-to playmaker currently. And uh they’re trying to turn Devin Booker into that guy. And um I just don’t think he’s enough. Similar to the squad we just faced in our last win. I think that’s where they’re going to be um missing that key key part with like Anthony Edwards missing the playmaking. Deon Booker’s kind of in the same spot. they’re doing a lot of two guards into um point guards and you can’t really have that unless you have a lot of other supplemental uh point guards around you or play playmaking around you with like your centers or something and they really don’t have that in their uh overall depth chart. So, that’s what I’m going to go with for my overrated. Yeah, I actually like that they’ve had that problem for the last couple years ever since they got rid of Chris Paul really. Um, for me, I’m going with Devin Booker. And I’ve said this forever. Um, pretty good stats this year, 26 and seven. Uh, but just never has been an like a real winning player outside of the years with Chris Paul. Um, but Chris Paul kind of brings that winning to every team he’s been on, especially we saw that in OKC. Booker, he’s a good scorer, but the fact that they’re trying to throw him in at more point guard, uh, it doesn’t really work for me. it doesn’t really work for him, I should really say. And um he’s not great defensively either. Every time OKC plays Phoenix, we’re able to attack their guards and pretty much dominate recently. So, I I’m definitely going to go with Devin Booker. And and people could question me on that and I’d love to hear it in the comments, but I just I believe he’s a bit overrated in my opinion. Um underrated Sappier. Let me go with or underrated guy. It’s the guy that’s injured. It’s Grayson Allen me being a Duke fan. But if I have to choose someone, it’s going to be Dylan Brooks on this lineup because he brings a lot more than what fan bases think he does other than the Raw Ra part of him where he gets a bunch of flagrance or whatever else. You kind of need that type of player in your your side. We have Lud Door on our end. uh Golden State Warriors have Draymond Green and I feel like the Suns were missing this guy and that’s why they’re playing so much better with a record of 12 and seven after their last couple seasons. So, I think they have um enough to make noise with their roster construction. So, I actually like what they’re building and Dylan Brooks is the underrated guy for me. What about you? Yeah, I love that pick. Uh for me, I’m going with Mark Williams. He’s averaging 13 and N on the season. He’s coming off some big games recently. uh the center who got traded to the LA Lakers and then they rescended their trade. I think they’re kind of wishing they hadn’t right now because he’s playing big for the Phoenix Suns. Um and he’s 23 years old and he’s he’s had some injury past in the first few years of his career, but when he has played he’s been absolutely a beast. Um he had a 21 point 16 rebound, four assists, one block, three steals game against the Kings. So he’s obviously more than capable at affecting games. So, I’m going with um Mark Williams as my underrated player tonight. X X Factor, Savier. Oh, man. X Factor for this type of game. I feel like they’re going to need some extra scoring from somewhere with Grayson Allen out. So, who do I go with? I guess, man, they just don’t have enough off the bench. And if I had to predict anyone to have kind of a good scoring night, it’s going to be a power forward even with Jub coming back. Uh this is going to be a risky risky pick here, but I’m going to go with Royce O’Neal because they’re going to need someone kind of random and usually random players do go off against us because we limit the stars. So if I had to choose, I guess uh usually wings do pretty well against us overall because we have a bunch of under undersized guys that they can take advantage of going into the paint. Um, I guess Royce O’Neal, but he could have a really quiet night. I’m just I’m picking at straws right now, Suns fans. Yeah. Yeah, I I fully get that. For me, I actually am going Dylan Brooks, so I’m kind of using your underrated. Um, you mentioned everything. Yeah, he’s gritty. He plays defense. Uh, he’s a he’s a trash talker, which is a good thing. He brings that energy. He brings the just the camaraderie of a team everywhere he’s gone. He’s kind of the face of the locker room, the voice of the locker room, what it seems. Uh, and I think that’s very important. I’m very I agree with you. I think Phoenix needed that. I wish they could have kept KD and got that. That would have been nice for them. Um, but they they obviously traded KD for Dylan Brooks. Uh, but something that you kind of missed is he’s averaging 21 points per game this year and he’s a decent scorer. Um, he’s he was Oregon’s leading guy in college. He took them into some March Madness runs uh offensively himself and he kind of turned into this defensive guy in the NBA. But 21 points per game isn’t a joke. So he could he could get it going from deep mid-range. Uh he gets to the free throw line. So tonight my X-factor would be Dylan Brooks. And finally, Savia, your favorite. Oh man, do I have to pick a favorite off this team? Um no, you do not. Goodness. I guess if I had to choose anyone, I like the kid Ryan Dunn. He’s not playing tonight, but I do like him. Uh they also picked up a big shout out to uh Kobe Bria. So, but I think I’m gonna go with Ryan Dunn even though he’s not playing. I do like his play style overall. So, I’m gonna go with him. Actually, no, scratch that. I’m going with Grayson Allen being an ex Duke player and people not thinking he’s going to be as good as he is, but I knew he’s just going to be a really solid player to have and he’s been like a top five shooter in the NBA since he’s entered the league and he’s always gritty on defense. So, I feel like he’s underrated as well, but I wish he was playing tonight. It’d be uh fantastic to, you know, give us give us a little bit of a test, but I think it’s going to be a huge blowout. Yeah, I like you shouting out your Duke Blue Devils, but I despise Grayson Allen. I just don’t enjoy anyone on this Phoenix Suns team, so I’m going to cop out and say nobody. I don’t have any affiliation to any of these players. Um, so I’m gonna have to say nobody. But, I do appreciate you standing true with your Duke Blue Devils. Um, all right. Let’s get into some betting lines here. Sapier OKC is opening up as a minus 15 and a half point favorite at home. The trend continues with this 14, 15, 16, 17. This every game OKC is a pretty hefty favorite. They are slightly uh underdogs to cover that spread. They’re at minus 1050 money line. Um first, let’s get into the the spread. Safia, your thoughts on the spread and what’s going to happen tonight. Um, oh my goodness, 15 is kind of ridiculous. Um, they are missing Grayson Allen. I think we’re going to box up on Devin Booker in general. Yeah, I think we’ll easily cover this one. Um, should be pretty easy. Uh, I’m expecting by the first half the game’s already over. Shay plays the third to get his 30 points. He dips out early. probably does it on a point per minute which he’s actually top four in NBA history with scoring one point per minute. Uh he’s only behind three other players and a lot of them were like Wilt Steph and I can’t remember the third player on this one but that’s a still crazy stat that he’s I I thought it was pretty high but I didn’t realize it was top five in NBA history. So yeah, big ups. Uh I’m gonna take OKC at cover as well. I think we dominate Phoenix every time we see them. Um there’s also maybe a little bit more incentive for Jaylen Williams because this is the team that he originally hurt his wrist against um late in last season. He was able to power through and finish the playoff run obviously dropping 40 in the finals. But this might be a little getback for OKC because obviously JDub’s missed the first 19 games of this season. Um with that being said, Savier, we both have them covered. Let’s get into some uh some player props here. SGA, you said 30 points. He’s sitting at 30 and a half tonight. I’ll still take him for the over because it is the Phoenix Suns. Um if they do pull in or keep it within 10 points or something, he’ll still get some opportunities to play. Maybe even in the fourth quarter or something like that he comes in. Um so it’s still a possibility he gets over that. So I feel like he’s just a lock for 30 and if it’s at 30 and a half like one what’s one more point to Sha just Alexander. So Right. Right. It’s it’s interesting. I um I think they’re going to go to JDub early this game. Obviously he’s going to not have an amazing game. He’s hasn’t played in forever and he’s probably not in the best shape yet. So um I’m I’m going to take Shay to sit at 30 tonight. I think 30 and like 30 minutes sounds like exactly what Shay will do. So, I guess that’s taking the under, but we’ll see. Um, Cadet right now is at 16 and a half. He’s the one that should have a really good game because he has an unders sized player on him. And usually that’s what I’m looking for from Chad is taking that advantage matchup. So, he should have 18 points or more in this game if I’m going to take any bets on him considering the line’s kind of low on him. And I can see why it’s dipping down because of his last three performances of everything before that. He was shooting, you know, 20 plus points. So, uh, soon as the line dips, that’s when you take the over. So, yes, I like that. I like that. I’ll take the over as well for chat. Um, 16 and a half. Do want to mention it was Thanksgiving yesterday, so it’s interesting to see how our guys will come out. See if they’re a little slow or not. Um, but yes, I’ll take the over 16 and a half on Shed. He’s averaging 18 points a game. He’ll probably sit around that spot tonight. Uh Jaylen Williams, welcome back. His return. I know he hasn’t played in a while, Sapier. And maybe this is a little bit of a trap by Vegas, but they have him sitting at 13 and a half points. Yeah. Um I’m expecting them to think that he’s rusty. He hasn’t played in a while. He’s going to get limited minutes. Scratch all that. He scored like 20 plus points, dude. Like, come on. if he’s in the game, he’s chucking up shots. He’s going to get his He’s really good going towards the basket. He’s one of the best in the league in my opinion. Um he’s underrated in that factor because he doesn’t get the foul calls. So, um against his Suns team, I mean, he’s matching up against like a Dylan Brooks maybe. Um not too worried about that matchup overall considering Brooks is probably on Shay most of the game. So he’s probably cooking K Gillespie and Booker and Yeah. Right. him, you know, cooking up shooting guards as a power forward is like, you know, that should be uh some easy turkey stuffing right there. Absolutely. I love that analogy. And that’s what he does, bro. Like against the Suns, you got nobody to guard him. They they’re going to put Brooks on SGA, I would presume. And um maybe they’ll put Royce O’Neal on him. Like that’s not going to work much either for them. You’re going to need Royce on chat. So yeah, like so I’m going to go I’m going to go over as well. I think this line looks like a trap, feels like a trap, maybe is a trap, but I’m falling right into it if it is because 13 and a half is too low for this guy. I don’t care if he hasn’t played in three years. He’s an allar guy. He’s going to get to the line. He started getting more more to the line in the playoffs last year. He was getting downhill to the rim for the past few seasons, but now he’s starting to add that that finishing at the rim and getting to the line as well. So, 13 and a half is too low in my opinion. And the last one for me, Sapier, maybe they think his minutes are going down, but I think this is also a little bit of a trap. AJ sitting at 11 and a half tonight. Um considering the game should be over hopefully by the third quarter. Uh that’s pretty low, but he is going to get a lot less minutes. Oh man, there’s no way. I’m taking the over. Um AJ, I’m always slamming the over because his line’s always just too low for his skill level. Um even him coming off the bench at a diminished role or whatever. Like I think that fits him way better. By the way, Joe, like I actually prefer him in that role because in that 10 to 15 minute spot when he knows that’s all he has. He’s chucking up shots and he’s going for it all. And I like that mentality of him more than him knowing he’s going to get 29 minutes so he takes less shots and is trying to assist more and do other things. Whereas, hey, it’s like get the ball in your hands, go to the rack, finish, and get a couple buckets for us. Yeah, that’s a little bit more expected and more consistent with him scoring that like 14 to 15 points from that limited minute role. Um, at least that’s what I’ve seen from him. He’s a little bit more playing with urgency because he’s like in these minutes I got to show out to get more minutes, right? So, um, I’ll take the over on him again. I always usually take the over on most of these guys. So, yeah. Uh, I I agree with you. I think if he does lose a few minutes, he’s going to want to prove even more. and he’s a fantastic player. Um, we’ve seen that he’s averaging like 17 points a game to start the year. 16 maybe. I think it’s 17 right now. So 11 and a half, I don’t really care that JDub is back. Uh, kind of seems to me like that’s that’s a steal of a line. But maybe that’s two traps. But with that being said, Zapier, that is going to do it for our pregame show. Obviously, game 7:30 uh did I say 8:30 Central. Um, we will be back live after the game for our postgame live.
