The Carolina Panthers are Quietly Becoming a Problem..
I I did not necessarily think this was a playoff team, that this needed to be that next step for the Carolina Panthers, but now the playoffs are squarely in their sights. Those things said, they just swept the Atlanta Falcons for the first time since 2013. If you said a year ago that the Carolina Panthers would be six and five through week 11, nobody would have believed you. Not the fans, not the analyst, probably not even the Panthers themselves. Because last season, the Carolina Panthers were a bit of a mess. a five and 12 team with the bottom five defense, a really broken offense, a new coaching staff, a young quarterback still looking for answers, and basically no real identity. They were a franchise in limbo, a team with a direction, but not a lot of hope. But something’s changed, something real, something structural, something you can feel when you watch them. This year, the Carolina Panthers are no longer a punch line. They’re no longer a rebuild stuck in neutral. They’re no longer the team that gets circled on every schedule as an automatic win. Through 11 weeks, Carolina sits at six and five. Tighten wins with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The same Buccaneers team who was favored to run away with the NFC South. Cardinals rush four. They protect Bryce and he completes McMillan off to the races. They’re not perfect. They’re not polished, nor are they even close to being finished. But for now, they’re dangerous. And for the first time in a long time, the Panthers are finally a team worth talking about. But before we break down how this young roster suddenly flipped the script, before we talk about the defensive leap, the offensive surprises, and Bryce Young’s roller coaster of a season, we need to start with the simple truth. The Carolina Panthers are improving much faster than anyone expected. How did this happen? Let’s find out. Let’s get the biggest storyline out of the way. Carolina’s defense is no longer terrible. Last year, this is one of the worst units in the entire NFL. Bottom five in nearly every meaningful category. opponents moved the ball effortlessly. They scored at will. They would control the clock. They dictated the tempo. They did whatever they wanted to do. There was no pass rush, no interior dominance, no coverage discipline, nothing. But this season, the Panthers are actually pretty good defensively. 13th in opponent’s points per game, 15th in opponent’s yards per game, 14th in opponent’s touchdowns per game. That’s not quote unquote good for Carolina. That’s league average to fringe top 15 territory after being one of the worst defenses alive just one season ago. So, what changed? Well, a lot of things. This wasn’t a coaching miracle. It’s not a lucky stretch. Nor is it opponents just playing bad. This was personnel. This was adding talent. This was the front office identifying weak points and actually fixing them. Let’s start off with Nick Scoron. The spark they desperately needed on the defensive line. Carolina’s first major upgrade came through the draft. Nick Scorin from Texas A&M. the explosive, violent pass rusher who instantly added some juice to the front seven. He brought energy, some consistency, and brought some pressure on a defense that really could use it. He made quarterbacks uncomfortable. And what you combine that with Derrick Brown, the return of a great player in the interior. Last season, Dererick Brown was hurt. This season, he’s back in his usual self. He is a force up the middle who collapses pockets, eats up double teams, and makes life easier for literally everybody around him. Carolina’s run defense went from bad to actually pretty good. And Brown is by far and away the biggest reason why. Trevon Morig, the guy they brought in this off seasonason to be a stabilizer. He’s one of the smartest, most underrated safeties in the league. He’s not a flashy player, nor is he this highlight machine type of guy, but he’s disciplined, he’s rangy, and he’s reliable. And reliability was something that this team desperately lacked on the back end last year. With Scorin creating more pressure, Brown controlling the trenches, and Morway cleaning up the mistakes, the Panthers defense got a lot better. It became functional. It became competitive, and it became respectable. They’re not dominant just yet, but it’s a actual unit. It’s a foundation. There’s something to build on here. And for Carolina, that’s all that matters. Falcons need it. Pennocks looks, passes, intercepted. Mike Jackson who might take this the distance. Pennock gets a piece of him. Jackson stays on his feet, reverses field, tries to Now we talk about the most complicated part of this Panthers rebuild, the quarterback, Bryce Young. Former number one overall pick, the quote unquote franchise quarterback, the face of the reboot, and the problem no one knows really how to solve yet. Let’s be honest, Bryce Young has not been great. He’s been fine, not awful, not hopeless, but not the star that Carolina drafted him to be. Year three was supposed to be the leap, the moment where everything clicked, the moment he proved he was the guy, and that hasn’t happened, at least not consistently. Carolina’s offense has been up and down because Bryce has also been up and down. Good games, bad games, stagnant stretches, missed reads, some hesitation, late throws, the typical growing pains of a young quarterback who still hasn’t settled into who he is at the NFL level. But then something happened. Week 11 versus the Falcons, a game that may genuinely be the best performance of Bryce Young’s entire career. 448 passing yards, three touchdowns, an overtime win with complete commands, some confidence, and actual aggression down the field. For once, Bryce looked like the quarterback that Carolina thought they drafted. The poise was there. The accuracy was there. The timing was there. The boldness to push the ball down the field was there. Let’s look at this play right here. We talk about Bryce Young not pushing the ball down the field much this season. For some statistics, he ranks 34th out of 39 qualified quarterbacks with over 100 snaps in average depth of targets. He’s down there with guys like Tua Tigavoa, Jared Goff, Aaron Rogers, Gino Smith with an average depth of target of 6.8. 84. Bryce Young has not been pushing the ball down the field, but here we are. It’s 16-21. Atlanta has the lead. 12 minutes and 10 seconds in the third quarter. And it’s first and 10. Bryce Young postnap is going to realize he has one-on-one with his large lengthy receiver who’s running a double move in Xavier leg. Leggette runs a nice route and shows off his speed, gets separation down the end zone, and Bryce Young pushes the ball down the field and throws an absolute dot. Let’s look at this play right here. It’s 19 to 24. Atlanta has a lead with a minute and 15 seconds left. It’s third and 12. The mark of an excellent quarterback in today’s game is their ability to improvise, make plays on the run, be a playmaker. That’s something we haven’t really seen from Bryce Young too much. But in this moment, we’re going to see it unlocked. The Carolina Panthers have everybody lined up. It’s just Bryce Young. You got five offensive linemen protecting you, no extra protection. The Atlanta Falcons are only going to send three and have a spy watching Bryce Young as well as watching over the middle. Bryce is going to extend the play by rolling out to the left and finding his guy none other than Tedoa McMillan in the back of the end zone. This is stuff you see guys like Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and all of the top quarterbacks do over and over again. For the first time in a long time, Panthers fans saw flashes of a franchise quarterback. And that really matters, even if the road has been bumpy. Because here’s the truth. Bryce Young doesn’t need to be perfect right now. He just needs to keep showing growth, continue to get better. This team is not going to win a Super Bowl or make the playoffs today. They’re building for something bigger. And Bryce is still very much a part of their vision. He needs to take another step. He needs to be more consistent. He needs more help. But week 11, that was hope. Real hope. Hope Carolina desperately could use. Young is in the gun. Da left hip. Blitz off the edge. Young checks down to D. [Applause] Go. The Panthers offense didn’t just play well because Bryce Young finally showed some flashes. They improved because of a few other guys as well. Rico Dael, the RB1 that nobody predicted would become the RB1. This was supposed to be Chuba Hubard’s backfield. That was the plan. That was going to be the expectations. But as we all know, Rico Dawa had other ideas. Rico didn’t just take the RB1 job. He completely stole it. He runs harder. He runs smarter. He breaks tackles, hits lanes, and brings the physicality that Carolina’s offense desperately needed. Despite not playing as a starter for the entire season, he ranks fourth in the NFL in rushing yards. That’s insane production. That is franchise running back production. That is, we don’t need to draft a running back for years type of production. He has completely changed the tone of the Panthers offense. Then there’s the other guy, T McMillan, the rookie receiver that is making a huge impact on this offense. He’s a good route runner. He’s got good hands. He can make big plays down the field. He’s a perfect compliment to some of the other pieces around him. Through 11 games, he’s got 748 receiving yards, four touchdowns, and he leads all rookie receivers in yards. That is not normal. That is not solid rookie year production. That is a future wide receiver one. McMillan has been the consistent stabilizing presence that Bryce Young has needed. And when Carolina continues to add more to this offense, adding more weapons, more pieces, McMillan is going to be unlocked even more. This offense is nowhere near elite. It’s not polished. It has some holes, but the pieces, they got some. And that’s something Carolina hasn’t been able to say for a couple years now. [Applause] Here’s [Applause] the crazy thing about this Carolina Panthers team. They’re six and five. They’re competitive. They’re beating some teams they shouldn’t beat, and they’re fighting every single week. And yet, they’re nowhere even close to being a finished product. They still need probably another wide receiver, so more pieces defensively, more consistency from Bryce Young, general depth, some playmakers, more speed on the offense, and better offensive rhythm overall. But that’s what makes this team so interesting. Because if this Panthers roster with all its holes, all its inconsistencies, and all its flaws can sit at six and five and be tied with the Buccaneers, what happens when they actually fix the remaining issues? What happens when Bryce Young becomes more consistent? When the defense adds another star? When the offense gets another receiver? When this young core continues to mature together? This team is not peaking, they’re rising. And with a young rising team starting to find some confidence, starting to win close games, starting to find some belief within themsel, that’s when they become dangerous. That’s when they become a problem. The Carolina Panthers are not contenders. Not yet. They’re not polished. They’re nowhere near elite. They’re not even close to being finished. But they are something they have not been in a few years. A team with clear direction, a team with an identity, a team with some growth, and a team with a future. They’re winning close games. They’re building a real defense. They’re discovering some offensive playmakers. They’re outpacing their expectations and they’re only going to just get better. Carolina is not a juggernaut. They’re not the class of the NFC, but they’re also not a finished product. But if you’re paying attention, if you’re watching the foundation take shape, if you’re seeing how much this team has grown, one thing becomes obvious. The Carolina Panthers are on the rise. And very very soon they might be a
The Carolina Panthers have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 NFL season!! They have very quietly become a HUGE Problem for the NFL!!

my panthers getting recognition i could literally cry right now
the only thing i would say i’m not sure about in this video is that you think bryce doesn’t have aggression and urgency because it definitely shows in 4Q which is why he has so many game-winning drives but otherwise this is peak and i agree bryce has got to be more consistent
as a panthers fan, yes bryce hasn’t look GREAT but he has improved, last season when dave said fuck it let bryce sling it we looked very competitive. almost beating the two teams that made it to last years super bowl. but bryce hasn’t be consistent because dave hasn’t let him do his thing, and that’s slinging the ball. we’ve played to conservative for a guy who has proven he can push the ball downfield and is in his 3rd season. if we don’t make playoffs this year, i really like our odds next year. bryce is still my qb until then.
If Young was just as tall as most QBs he might be top 5 in the league. They say he's 5' 10" but that's with help 😂 The only successful short QBs are Kyler Murray (5 10) and Russel Wilson (5 11). I'm not saying Young can't do it, but there's a lot to overcome with his physical disadvantage. Not only on his part, the team needs special plays and styles to accommodate that.
As much as I hate it, as a Panthers fan, I don't think he's our next franchise guy. He'll only ever be average at best. Teams have succeeded with average QBs, but…
I get you’ve never watched a single panthers game. But come on man go check the dropped passes numbers. And to say Bryce doesn’t improvise is the dumbest thing I heard it’s all he does every game
Thank you Dan Morgan
Finally, someone who gets it!
Let’s goooo keep pounding!!!!
They don't need another receiver.
These guys are loaded on offense. 3 good tight ends . 4 top tier receivers. 2 good backs. And Brice. Give em time.
No they aren’t…. Im a panthers fan, but I swear Bryce ain’t it….
What if I told you I have a female friend who works in the news who predicted the panthers would win whatever division they’re in (idc about football, she does quite a lot) LOOONG before even pre season lol. Idk about winning their division but they’re definitely doing great.
not the fans???? yea buddy get outta here 👎
Tet McMillan, Xavier Legette, Jalen Coker, Jimmy Horn (hell, even Brycen Tremayne) — plus 3 tight ends: Tremble, Evans & (the admittedly disappointing) Sanders…ALL of these guys are contributing. And it is definitely starting to pay off. But the "Bryce doesn't have any receivers; he's been GREAT but all his teammates suck!" trope is just halfwit inattentive national media conventional wisdom. The Panthers do NOT need to draft any more receivers after using their first pick on WRs twice in a row. Something is definitely happening, and it is often fun as a fan to watch it develop. But the whole "This organization is garbage, and they're doing Bryce Young dirty" drivel-fest is a very lazy take on what is actually brewing…
I wouldn’t be surprised if they spent the upcoming offseason, whether it the draft or FA, to heavily invest and focus on O- line, the LB core, and adding quality safety depth to improve the secondary even more
Ah yes, the annual ritual of deciding for half of the year that Bryce Young is not the guy and needs to be traded away, and then the other half of the year where we declare him as a generational phenomenon
Yea buddy, our receiver core is close to perfect imo. Just need them to grow as they are young.
we not going to finish this season much better . hoping im wrong but upcoming games are tuff
So I'm a say this about Bryce fr.. lol
N it's funny fr cuz of the amount of game winning drives despite not being consistent or winning fr. His 4th quarter game is among the greats. Simple as that ppl. This is called CLUTCH. in case your not aware. Which is possessed only by the greats jus to be absolutely clear. No bums. Cuz it can't be taught. It's truly a God given talent ppl. Let's be real…. So he's not a bust by a long shot. If ppl think that with a God given talent displaying in plain view. Thank God there not the Gm lol…
So Bryce, somehow, at 5'10. Has the God given talent in plain sight.
What does that mean? Look at other Qb's 4th quarter stats. Add the fact that Bryce is playing from behind a lot as well. So the pressure is up. You can't teach this to no one……
Soo, now, i agree. Consistency is the goal. It is key. N I think that's going to be on Bryce's own time. We can't rush it or delay it. N we really can't complain to be honest. These things take time fr. N we gave up a lot for Bryce. So the expectations have been heavy in the least, even if not outspoken a lot. So his development has been knocked off track a couple times with the coaching from frank at first. Remember, Nick Saban was stable asl in Alabama. Everything was set for Bryce to come in n shine.
Carolina had to build with Bryce.
BIG DIFFERENCE 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
IN THE FURNACE FRFR
THIS SHID WAS BUILT FROM SCRATCH ALL OVER AGAIN ON THE NFL LEVEL!!!
WAR READY! BATTLE SCARS. OUT THE MUD!!!!
N NOW HE'S BLOOMING INTO SOMETHING BETTER. LOL. WE DON'T KNO HOW BETTER. WE WANT CONSISTENCY. BUT AT WAT LEVEL?A 2? 4? GOTTA CRAWL BEFORE U WALK. But by default u see he's getting better in front of your very eyes. Yall are witnesses jus like me. Ok. Simple friccin observation skills.
So ICE YOUNG is our future fr.
N wat a 6 game stretch to challenge him n the team with the playoffs in the line…
This is everything you'd dream of for a coach to see wat his Qb is built like fr. Team as well ofc.
N the only thing that can neutralize Bryce's God given talent. Is if he has a tendency to be disastrous in big games. Which so far he hasn't shown us he does.
Franchise Qb in the flesh
So yall jus enjoy the view man. Watch Ice cook fr. Building this thing from scratch fr. Foolproof shid..
So I predict there will be no regression in Ice's game. In fact, we'll see improvement every game from here on out till his ceiling is within reach
Defense plays to its strengths, oline plays well. I'm not counting Bryce out of no game with the way he plays in the 4th quarter. No cap. Especially wen Bryce is on fr. He's a killer. Ngl. I'm standing on that. Wen BY9 is on, he's on frfr. Tom Brady vibes cuz he be in the zone n you can see it n feel it… it's jus like dump, toss, dump, toss, dump, toss. Jus like Brady in the zone…. ngl
San Fran- W
La Rams- W
😅😅😂😂😂
Saints–W
Bucs–W
Seattle-W
Bucs–W
We been going up n down, up n down. We jus stopped that in Atl right? OK
Now we show that we can carry momentum like playoff teams do…
Now we're built to cover from behind😂😂😂😂… 😮😮😮😮😮That's not something we're used to…
BIG DOG SHID. GOT IT OUT THE MUD!!
Now we gotta complete offense…
Hurt defense but healthy in core mainly( horn, brown, moehrig, Scourton). Good reliable kicker …
Good damn team
Jus be prepared to be a complete team if we get to the playoffs frfr 🔥 🔥 🔥
The only "problem" the Panthers are is that you don't know what team is going to show up from week to week. They look like a 2 win squad against the Bills then they go to Green Bay and win. They look like garbage against the Saints and people are saying Bryce isn't the answer, then he goes to ATL and breaks the teams single game passing record.
I believe in Bryce Young because we know he has all the abilities and the skill set to be and become great. I mean we seen it, the Cardinals Game, the Atlanta game, it´s not like the ability isn´t there, thats why I am dying on the hill that playcalling is playing a major if not the biggest role. Note that we ran the ball well the games where he didnt put up 200 or more. All these games we rushed for 100 plus
Bryce has been equally awful and brilliant. The most bipolar QB I’ve ever seen.
finally someone with a good take on
A1 anlasyis
Wooooah buddy they’re not gonna make the playoffs? I bet you $20 they do. The Bucs got way more problems than the panthers right now
You sure are saying a lot of words about a team that has beat atlanta, miami, dallas, NYJ, green bay, and atlanta again. Thats one win against a team who was actually trying to win. Every other win is against objectively horrible teams.
KEEP POUNDING
i would never cel rate an injury but if mayfield is gone i dont see how we won’t run away with this conference
As a panthers fan they’ve always been a problem for me
