Tyler Renz: From VeloU to the Pros
Here’s how Tyler went from an undersized 13-year-old to throwing 96 mph as a Milwaukee Brewers high school draft pick in just 4 years. Tyler was our second ever VU evaluation. Even back then, his arm was electric. My iPad, kid. From day one, the goal was to have a heavy focus in the weight room and to help Tyler put on strength and size. Year after year, we saw significant progress. The turning point came during a junior year bullpen. In a packed room full of MLB scouts, Tyler touched 93.3 mph. A 6 mph jump turned every head in the building. This is what really put Tyler on the map. Tyler went on to wrap up his high school career with 140 innings, a sub 1.25 RA, and more than 220 strikeouts. Milwaukee selects Tyler Rens, a right-handed pitcher from Fox Lane High School in Bedford, New York. Now, at just 18 years old, Tyler has made his rookie ball debut and through his first three outings holds just a three erra. This is what long-term development looks like.
