Hello Commanders fans!

I am an MBA student at University of the West of Scotland. UWS conducting a short academic survey on the Washington NFL franchise's transition from the Washington Redskins to the Washington Commanders brand name change. I've received permission from the Washington Commanders organization to share this survey here.
This study aims to better understand fan perspectives on the name transition, including how it may have influenced brand perception, fan identity, and engagement with club merchandise & the team.

  1. I filled out the survey. I think the survey misses the point. Many fans don’t like the rebrand because it was created by Snyder or his team.

  4. Didn’t we do this already? Same school and everything? Or no?

    It gets tiresome, rehashing the same debate. IMO, we should be asking those who may deem it offensive… like the tribes/ schools who still use the old name. And most importantly the family/ Tribe of Chief John Two Guns White Calf as well as those related to the designer Walter “Blackie” Wetzel. Or maybe the descendents of the native American players and Head Coach of the team when they chose the name and changed it from the Boston Braves.

    Asking people how they feel about how people should feel is what got us in this mess to begin with imo.

  5. This survey misses a period where we were called the Washington Football Team. I think many people preferred that simple name over the uninspired Commanders name and the racist slur that was our old name. Appreciate the survey.

    Granted I was one of the people who refused to support a team named the redskins when I was younger because it was kinda like having a team called the “Washington Niggers” with a caricature of black person. If I owned the team I would have changed it too, just to avoid the headache. But I don’t like how they don’t allow you to wear face paint or headdresses at games anymore. They were called the redskins since WW2, it’s part of the teams history. Pretending it doesn’t exist is wild.

  8. Winning would change everything. There are Browns, Dolphins, Bengals, & Packers. Commanders ain’t so bad. Over time + winning, the brand would grow on us.
