No Games, Same Questions for the Edmonton Oilers | Oilersnation Everyday with Tyler & Liam

Welcome to Oilers Nation everyday with your hosts Tyler and Liam. No, Stan Bowman, you’re not getting a goalie at 50 at 50% off just cuz it’s Black Friday. Or will he? Let’s get into it with the lead. Come on Tristan Jarry at 50% retained in the spirit of the holidays Kyle Dubis. Yeah, come on Kyle. Don’t be like this. You remember what Don El Nurse was like for Sue the Sue Greyhounds when you were there? He got you a first what was it? Eighth overall, ninth overall, seventh overall actually. Let’s have a quick look through 41 points in 68 games. For Sue for For Sue 50 points in 64, 33 and 36. What more do you want? Look what he can do for you, Kyle. Your blue line needs Darnell. He’s better than Ryan Graves. Let’s quickly go through this exercise. What players on the Pittsburgh Penguins blue line is Darnell Nurse better than? Okay, I I I’ll say the name, you say yes or no. Darnell Nurse is better or worse? Yes. Okay. Matt Dumbber, better. Ryan Graves, better. Parker Witherspoon, better. Ryan Sheay, better. Okay, now we’re getting into the good stuff. Eric Carlson, worse. Chris Latang, worse. So, you’re telling me if Darnell Nurse was acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins, he would be their third best defenseman? He might be the Oilers’s third best defenseman. What are we waiting for? Let’s get things moving. You know, he’d be their second best defenseman if they traded away Eric Carlson. Yeah, that is true. That is true. That would that conversation would never come up. This is my gun to the head thing for Kyle Dubis. You’re either going to trade us Tristan Jarry at 50% retained or we’re telling everyone that the lenses in your glasses are fake. Do it Kyle. Do it. Uh, welcome in to Oilers Nation every day. Whatever the moment, it’s never ordinary. You bet 365. Uh, no trade yet. Kind of thought we were getting one. Well, the problem is, which is a good Whoa. Whoa. What was that? That was cinematic as [ __ ] Feel like I was in an early 2000s movie. Uh, the problem is is that good news for Edmonton in a way Tristan Jar is playing really well. The bad news is Pittsburgh’s playing him again tonight. Yeah. So, uh, you can probably not expect that to happen, but you can sleep easy tonight because they won’t trade Tristan Jarry if they say they’re starting them. I think we’re getting this on Sunday. I don’t know what the Penguins schedule is cuz I only live and die by the Edmonton Oilers, but I’m going to go out on a limb and think this goes down on Sunday. And also too, a lot of insiders are kind of talking about this now. Obviously Weeks Elliot didn’t say it directly, but it was the points directly after all the Oilers goalie conversation. Uh CJ said it as well. There was another one to I’m missing who who brought it up. Um but either way, like there’s three big names. So I think conversations are going on. I think they’re being halted slightly due to the the injury warrior Eric Carlson. Well, him a little bit I suppose but Tristan Jarry in this case the Oilers there was a report yesterday I think it was from Freeman the reason they didn’t go off to Gibson is because of the injuries. Yeah. But now you’re seeing Jarry do so well and he also has an injury his history of injuries. Yeah. It’s a worry especially when you don’t you have a questionable backup role whether that’s Pickard or or Ingram unless I wonder I really do if this is slowing down a little bit because the others want to try and keep Skinner in all of this for that exact reason of Jar’s gets banged up a little bit too often. I ju I wonder if that’s become a layering. just gets really difficult for them to squeeze in Jarry even at 50% retained if Steu’s not heading out the door, right? Unless it’s Bret Koulak. Unless it’s Bret Koulak. My thing is like and and like Freriedman touched on this in 32 thoughts. Do the Oilers want to make what they view as a relatively lateral move in net. Granted, Jarry for Pickard is an upgrade upgrade, right? like a Jarry Skinner tandem gets me very excited cuz it’s way less pressure on Stew and you have a guy who can legitimately carry the mail and has has tremendous upside. Is that worth weakening your blue line over? Like if if you trade Brett Kulak, you are getting to the point where Regula and Emerson are everyday defenseman for you. You also need Jake Wman to be healthy. And maybe that’s a hangup in all this. Maybe they’re sitting there being like we can’t do this trade until until Jake Wman’s back perhaps. But then you’re at a point where who’s your number seven D man? Josh Brown, Cam Denine. Like you’re you’re patching a hole and making another one. You’re robbing Peter to pay Paul. I think that the loss of Troy Ster obviously lingers on this a little bit. Uh Colin Chalk was on Bob’s show the other day and did say if this is any glimmer of desire. Mhm. Josh Brown is having a way better season than he’s had before and he’s seen and he said a big reason for it is because his family is now in Bakersfield and like in a home and everything so he’s settled. So that’s one side of it like if he could be a temporary stop gap just plays a seventh guy. He obviously adds a bit of toughness too. Obviously, there’s not many defensemen right now in Bakersfield who are NHL already. Like Josh, it’s Josh Brown and Captain Eden, unless there’s somebody else like Leon. Starting to sound like two muts over there with all this Josh Brown love. Two butts. They they would obviously have to go and do something to get another defenseman. Yeah. But the good news is seventh defenseman go on waiverss basically every day pretty much right a few times a week today none today the day before the day before that but like the point is they go on often enough yeah but like you’re still just running a risk there and that is a risk and the defense been so bad yeah I don’t think Brett Kulak is untouchable by any stretch of the imagination here and like I do in the same breath that like I feel bad it’s not working out for Steuart Skinner this year I feel bad that a local guy like Brett Koulak may have played his way off the team right like That sucks. That’s a story line that I enjoyed having around. Again, if you’re going from Koulak to who are the cheap defenseman on pit, I don’t know who Ryan Shay is if I’m being totally honest. He’s a college player. But the other side of it too is look at the defenseman on Pittsburgh. You can see why they’d want Kulak. I can see know that. Well, yes, is that but also too the goalies are playing well. is literally coming down to a bit of determination and competitiveness from probably four guys who are fringe NHL players who are now doing what? Like look at that. You know what I mean? Like you looked at we l all looked at this blue line at the start of the season and thought 32nd in the NHL and now all of a sudden they’ve got three or four goalies who all have relatively good numbers and that obviously comes down to them playing well but also to these guys doing well as well. Someone said don’t hate Wtherspoon as a guy coming back. I’ve heard he’s had a good bounceback season. So the money would work Kulak and Pickard for Wther Spoon and Jarry at 50% retained. You’re adding in a pick. H maybe you’re not adding in a pick at that point. They also have a Harrison Bruniki who they might want to play a little bit more as well. He’s 19 years old. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe there is something around a Kulak deal and maybe maybe that’s what’s holding this up is that the Oilers are trying to find a way to do this deal without giving up Stu Skinner. Again, all that reporting we talked about from Freriedman. I I tend to think they’re they’re done with Stu, but again, who knows? I do, too. Yeah. Uh but Jarry starts tonight for Pittsburgh. I mean, weirder [ __ ] has happened. Guys have gotten traded in games before, so like who knows, right? Maybe there’s a hurdle. Maybe Kyle Dubis is working on something behind the scenes. Like, I don’t know. You know, there’s hockey on right now. Hey, the NHL doing Black Friday games. Bunched to 11, I believe. Yeah, the the Red Wings are down 4-3 to the Lightning. The Rangers are up two rip on the Bruins. ABS and Wild gets going in about an hour and a half. Um, the Canadians play it too. I really like the over in that Montreal Vegas game. Montreal Vegas. The Nick Suzuki Bowl. Thomas Tatar Bowl. Thomas Tatar. Um, Brownie JB puts in the chat, “Hasn’t Kool-A been playing well? Seems like it. Why get rid of him?” He’s actually struggled massively this season. He went through at least the majority of November and was not on the ice for a five on five goal four until Trent Frederick scored against Tampa Bay and he struggled and it is disappointing. With Koulak on the ice at five on five, the Oilers are getting outscored 24-11. That five on five goals four percentage is by far the worst on their blue liners. Like if you want me to I’ll pull it up really really quick here. I was just pulling it up right now. So goals four percentage Emerson 52, Bousard 51, Stetcher was 50. Only played 79 minutes though. So uh Stetcher was 50, Walman 45, Echol 44, Nurse 42, Kulak 31%. And then a real damning Alec Regula 0%. The Oilers are getting outsc scored 11 to nothing with Alec Regula on the ice. You probably can’t, and this goes right back to the Koulak thing like I get, you know, if you get Wther Spoon back, maybe you feel differently about the whole thing, but are you really going to make Alec Regula a regular defenseman? I think we’re maybe starting to learn that he’s just not quite ready yet. The eye test is fine for me. Oh, the eye test is damaging for me. He’s just not been the same player since he got nailed by Evander King. I But like what did He’s just not been. I am losing. He’s big. I think he Yeah, I don’t know. Maybe the eye test does suck. I’m just trying to be optimistic about it. And there is a lot of reason to be optimistic. He’s a 25-year-old player who’s a decent skater at 6’4, whatever it is. Like, I do think he has good parts to his game. I’m just sitting here wondering if this is a good time to sneak him through. You’re like, “Oh, this guy’s brutal.” Yeah, get them down. They also comp based off our previous conversation, but if they traded Kula, they have no one else. If they waved or put Regul in the Miners, they’d have no one. They don’t they don’t have enough healthy defenseman. So, like he’s number seven. And also too, Camden is currently unavailable for the Bakesfield Condors. If they wanted to bring up another guy, just for example. Yeah. So, I don’t know. Yeah. Someone said call up Denine, but obviously you just touched on that. Not possible. He’s injured. Um, anyways, we’re going to be joined by Ryder in about 10 minutes time. Uh, we got a whole bunch of stuff to get to today on the show. uh rider as he does kind of every Friday night. We might just be making this a regular bit on the program. Uh Matt Larkin’s going to join us at 1 pm. The first trade board is up at dailyfaceoff.com. Some pretty interesting names to go through on that bad boy with our guy Matt Larkin. So we’ll talk with Larkin at 1:00. We got a fresh Spotify question, a what’s trending. A bunch of comments to read from yesterday on Spotify that I saw as well. Um including people really buying into the whole idiot thing. Do you want to address it? I do. Emergency press conference. Let’s put him on a solo. Do I think the people who listen to this show are idiots? No. Well, it took you a while to say no, but go on. I don’t. You all love Spicy Tyler. You love when I get emotional and upset and I yell and I just say things. It’s part of the authenticity of this show. You can’t be mad if once in a while you get caught in the crossfire. [ __ ] happens, man. When I see Red, I’m going from Sound Mechanical. I’m going. What I also think is very funny and charming about this show is that you have other programs who have names for their listeners, usually terms of endearment. I think it’s wildly hilarious that you were all embracing the idiots thing and it’s like, you know, the what chaos guys, they got their whatnuts and I think Ryder and Lisa, they’re like the saucers or is it? I believe that’s what they’ve gone with. Yeah. Yeah. And you know, there’s other shows around the market who have their names. I think I kind of like that you guys just are really buying into the idiots thing, and I think it’s endearing. I think it’s charming. End of statement. Do I apologize? Absolutely not. Now, back to my electrolyte drink. I’m getting healthy. What do you got there? It’s a watermelon electrolyte drink. Oh, interesting. Yeah, there you go. Not idiots. You actually just refer to people online as idiots. specifically the ones that say I’m never wrong, which is just a dumb thing to say. Or all the like, if you want a good sample of the people I’m talking about, pull up Instagram if you have the Instagram app, go to the post we have about how good Evan Bushard is, where I lay out facts, stats, things that really can’t be argued that much. And go read how many comments are like, “Well, the other players only look better with Buchard because they’re covering for his mistakes.” Oh, yeah. That was great. how you could type that out and think it makes enough sense to hit send in a public forum is beyond me. The um the other one that was funny as well, someone commented this on the post yesterday and was like he should change his name to minus4 like he was in the uh in game six of the Stanley Cup playoffs. And I replied I was like he should change his name to 81 or his number to 81, sorry, cuz that’s how many career playoff points he has in 75 games. Dude, the amount of There were legitimately people in the comments about Evan Bousard being like, “Wrong backpack. It’s in the bedroom.” I asked I was like, “Why are you going through my stuff?” I asked him to get my drugs. I I’m trying not to mouth breathe, but I’m struggling to breathe. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um Yeah. There are people in in the comments about Evan Bard who were like, “It doesn’t matter. Can’t win with a guy like that in the playoffs.” Oh, yes, you can. And it’s just like people just make [ __ ] up and they’re so brashly confident about the [ __ ] they’re making up. And that is what frustrates me. Even with the Steuart Skinner thing where it’s like never piece together good games when it matters. They and people love doing the whole they don’t make the cup final without Calvin Pickard. They might not make the cup final without Steuart Skinner getting what four shutouts in the middle rounds of the playoffs last year. I just don’t know why you have to discredit one or the other. They both played well. They both played well enough to get the Oilers there and that’s important. Thank you, sir. Um, and I just think that’s fine to do. Like, yes. Did Stuart Skinner crap his pants against the LA Kings? Yes. 1 million%. No one here is denying that. Did Calvin Picket save them? Yes. A million% he did. And then Pickicket Skinner came back and did a really good job against Vegas and Dallas and then struggled to an extent, I would say, against uh Florida. But I also think everyone did. I don’t think there was anyone that played particularly well in that series. Like Pod Coulson might have been one of the lone bright spots, but yeah, Bush has his bad moments. There’s no denying it. And I understand the frustration around people. If you’re looking for a good laugh, I highly recommend you go through some of these. A lot of views on that. Also, the funny part about it is we made the other one the we made another one the other day of the when Tyler went on his rant about And also too, follow our Instagram. We’re already up to 800 followers. Yeah, we really want to get to a thousand. Yeah. So, that was cool. That’s good to see. But the other one too of uh Tai talking about the players have come here and struggled where if you just watch the video, he specifically says like Heyman has not struggled, Ros has not struggled. Manip Skinner, whatever all these guys names are. Uh someone said sneak Tyler through waiverss while he’s performing poorly. I had one bad show on Tuesday and then we rebounded with like one of our most watched shows of the year on Wednesday. People are calling it the show of the year. They are calling it the show of the year. You know, real blessing in disguise for us when the Edmonton Oilers are an absolute total dumpster fire. They’re they’re actually pointing out for an SP. You think we could one day win an SP? Um unless the E changed to Edmonson. No. Yep. That’s a good point. Um all right, Ryder’s going to join us in a couple of minutes here. here. We’ll save our Spotify questions for after uh Ryder’s appearance on the show, but we have a whole bunch of stuff we’re going to get to with him. Obviously, the Oilers plan tomorrow, and they did practice today, by the way. So, here’s how the Oilers lined up at their skate because there is some injury news and all of this from our good friend, friend of the show, Tony Bra. Oh, I’d love to get Tony on here one day. You’d have to uh Who says no? Uh not the three of us. No, not the three of us at all. It’s like what’s a Eli made this joke a couple weeks ago. What’s the old consent thing? It’s like Tyler and Liam consented. Tony Bra consented. OG. Uh, all right. McDavid with Seavoy and Heyman. They’re keeping Matt Seavoy up on the top line even with Ryan Nan Hopkins expected to return tomorrow. Um, like seeing that. I do too. I think Heyman needs to be higher up because I think you need to score goals. Not worry about your depth when players are playing well. Mhm. Uh, second line, Dry Cidle, Pud Coulson and Mangi Aani. Um, Mangapani is pretty lucky Ross Levik got hurt. Uh, yeah, he is. I think there could be another name on that healthy scratch list and it wouldn’t be uh Clattenburg. Nope. Uh, Noo with Henrik and Yanmark. Um, probably says someone about Trent Frederick that Yanmark’s jumped him on the depth chart. I also think Yan Mark has played well. He’s done he’s working hard and I appreciate that about him right now. Mhm. Lazar with Frederick and Clattenberg. So, Clattenberg stays in. Tamasic comes out. Yeah, that makes sense. Good call. He deserves to be in. I think Fred I think there was a very good case for Frederick coming out of the lineup and keeping that fourth line the same, but Lazar is also back in the lineup, too. So, yeah, I think so as well. Maybe it just comes down to a handedness situation. Mhm. In the sense of I guess you can never have too many righties, but having Lazar back in also Lazard hasn’t really played bad. He just got injured. Yeah, I think he’s been relatively okay. So, it’s basically Ros Liick out for RNH and Lazar for Tamasic. It’s basically what it boils down to. I legitimately thought they were going to take turn Frederick out of the lineup and try to send a message. Maybe three days off in between games. Just kind of allowed everyone allowed cooler heads to prevail. Liam, I would also say he’s played okay the last few games. He just got injured last game. He scored a goal against Tampa. He was good decent against Florida and then just got injured against Dallas. Yep. Um, someone said send down Frederick can’t. No movement clause. Classic at Cole with Bousard, Nurse with Regula, and Kulak with Emerson. Skinner in the starters net at Skate today. So, there is a chance that Stuart Skinner is making another start as an Edmonton Oiler. Maybe he’s lost. I mean, who knows? Someone said it’s Is this like the Woodcraftoft game in in Seattle a couple of years ago where like Steuart Skinner is going to play well and then they’re going to trade him the next day? Doesn’t matter. I mean, it very well could be. Yeah. It was funny. Gregor had a a post the other day. He was on the sheet. Maybe it was his own program, I can’t remember, talking about how Seattle is one of the lowest and higher danger chances for Yeah. But I specifically remember the Oilers just giving them like three straight twoon- ones and they won the game 3-1 when we played them last time. So it’s not actually doesn’t matter what the other team is capable of doing cuz the Oilers will just find a way to screw it up anyway. Yeah, we go currently in their current mess. All right, let’s get to our first guest of the day. It’s the Star Mechanical Guest line, Edmonton’s number one plumbing and heating company. You can find out more by visiting them online at star mechanical.ca as we are on Fridays now. We kind of just forced him to make this a regular thing with us, but Ryder from the sauce is here. Hello. Hello, Tyler. Liam, idiots. I I was going to be like, you’ll get there with the listeners, but you won’t. You’re too nice. Um, sometimes you just got to call it like it is. We don’t uh we don’t have to deal with as many hot hockey takes cuz we’re not talking quite as much hockey as you guys. So, if I call somebody an idiot, but they’re actually just sharing a story, I feel pretty bad about. They’re like, “You won’t believe what my dog did this morning.” And you’re like, “Hey, shut up.” I think I’ve heard enough of this. Stop commenting. Um, speaking of which, the sauce about to come to the end of month number one. Yeah, I think it was our 18th show today. Something like that. Felt good. It actually feels natural in there now. The first I was going to say like the first couple of shows you were like, “Man, two hours is so much.” Are you like finding a rhythm now? Yeah. Yeah, we’re good. Uh, I still don’t know which camera to look at quite often. So, if you ever watch the show, you’ll just see me like spacing out. I just stare at Le and I just basically look at ourselves in the monitor and like, “Ah, as long as we see ourselves, that’s okay.” I heard you had to add Wany to the list. Yeah, we’ve got the uh Sean Avery Award for people that have ghosted us. And Wany, I think, probably had a good excuse, but doubt it. Second name of the list of guests who have ghosted us. in two months. In one month, sorry, two weeks. That is a tough list. Uh Sean Avery’s excuse was just that he ran into a buddy on the street and ended up getting stoned. And then I feel like somebody told me they were listening to Chicklets and he was being interviewed there and said that he ran into Darren McCarti on the street in New York and they got stoned. So I actually think it was another it would have been wild if we would have had him jump on and all of a sudden there’s two NHL legends there. If I mean is Avery a legend loosely in in some in his WA could have done the same thing to be honest. There’s no denying. You never know. Um first big dump of snow in Edmonton and you came for this appearance with research. You are ready to go. You think this is exactly what the Edmonton Oilers needed. Yes. So last year we got our first big dump of snow November 23rd and 24th. Okay. And that just happened to be when the Oilers beat the Rangers 6-2 and then went on to win 11 of their next 13 games. Wow. I think there’s something to be said about you need the snow. Realizing it’s winter now and that’s hockey season and it’s wake up time. So, we probably need the snow to start coming like early October is what you’re talking would be nice if it did. Someone pull out the farmer’s almanac every year be like, “Are you going to have a good start?” [ __ ] rifling through being like, uh, no, just using the farmers almond to shape your bets. If they played in, if they played in Mandair, Mandair’s getting snow in October. It’s like, not Edmonton, though. Um, that is interesting. This also though, and Lance put the comment in. This is the day after the autograph signing, which traditionally aligns perfectly with six Edmonton Oilers have the flu. Oh. So, that’s a concerning sign to kind of keep in mind in all this. What uh what do you think does that like? Is there a specific Is it just meeting all of the people at West meeting hundreds of people at the moment? I don’t think they’re allowed to shake hands or anything anymore though. I don’t even think so. But you’re touching an object they’ve been holding on to for 8 hours. Did you not learn enough about airborne illnesses during CO? No. Was CO airborne? I don’t [ __ ] know. No, it was. Was it even real? That’s also too funny. Um, I do like that line of thinking though. Like if the weather gets shitty, wakes up something in the Oilers. Well, when you think about growing up playing hockey, you grab your bag and you go to the rink once it’s winter time. You don’t do that when it’s nice out. That explains why they’re garbage in June. Well, and maybe I shouldn’t really think about that. Not Not so much fun when you flip it that way now, is it? Um, but I do think they can turn it around here at some point. I still think we’re getting a trade at some point. It’s it’s a I’m now at the point where it’s a matter of when, not if. And it just feels like the narrative around Skinner like we’ve we’re so far down the line with it that there’s it’s the point of no return. Well, and it does seem like a lot of people are talking about a lateral move and sure, but it’s still a move and potentially a wakeup call, which is needed. I mean, this is when you fire your coach. Yeah. and bring in a new coach and everybody just has a fire litten under them. So, it’ll be interesting if there is a lateral move made. Uh on paper, it looks lateral anyway if it still is what is needed to just kind of re hit the reset button. They also have a fivegame home stand coming up. They’re good on home ice. Like maybe it is a perfect storm of winter, make a trade, wake up the group, and then five straight on home ice to just like go [ __ ] attack. They’re calling it a blizzard. Oh, you said perfect storm. Thanks, Liam. I uh that one I use the reset button in fatherhood when my kid, especially when she was younger, would have meltdowns. I’d hit the reset button and I just do something that she’s never seen before. Like put my shirt over my head and just run around screaming and it just like stops the madness and the meltdown. And then you go back to normal and you’ve just kind of hit the reset button. I thought you were just going to be that new kid full reset. Well, I’m wondering my daughter’s 13 now and I think I might have to have another one because uh she doesn’t like going to the water park as much anymore and I love going to the water park and I can’t go by myself. No, that’s my niece, this was like a month ago was like, “What do you want to do for your birthday this year?” And my sister was like, “Oh, don’t ask.” My niece goes, “I want to go to the water park.” And my sister was like, “No, like that’s too we’re not making your aunts and uncles go to the water park. That’s expensive.” And I was like, “Whoa, whoa, whoa. I’ll pay for Do not lump me into this. Yeah. Like I I’m looking for reasons to go to spend that money. I want to go to the water park. I have a nephew and when he he’s just past one Mhm. Can’t bring him to the water park yet. No. No water pack. Actually, he’s been to the water park. I bet he’d go fast down the slides. I bet he would. Just like a dense one-year-old. And when he screams, I just scream back at him and he shuts up. Yeah. It’s crazy. It’s like so unexpected. It’s like, “Yeah, this is how it feels, buddy. Like you’re screaming in my face. This is what I want to do. Right back. And he stops. That’ll be awesome if he uh ends up using that later in his life for other people. I taught him. Yeah. The teacher like yells at him for doing something dumb. My uncle Liam taught me is don’t tell him that. Next thing I had on my list. Black Friday kind of sucks now. Like we’ve lost the plot with Black Friday. I feel like there used to be like a legitimate like you’d wake up, fire up whatever website, and it’s like you got a good deal, it’s gone now. Yeah. I uh was looking for my Christmas gift for my daughter and I looked yesterday, I looked today, exact same price just with a different headline. Yeah. Or it’s like 20% off any order of $150 or more and it’s like that’s not that’s not the spirit of Black Friday, Liam. No, Black Friday is brutal. Cuz we all just sit on our laptops and phones. We’re not getting out in the streets anymore. Outside anymore, you know, we got to get out. Got to get out. You got to wrestle people. wait outside for anything like that. Like I stood out in the cold for the Nintendo Wii. Like those were the good old days. You had to earn it. I remember I went really early once for the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. But I had to go. The reason I didn’t stay is cuz I had to go with my dad cuz obviously I was not 18. That was awesome. But yeah, never a Black Friday. But in England there isn’t Black Friday. There’s no Thanksgiving. It’s an American thing. Yeah. We did a contest on a radio station I worked on back in the day. We for a Wii. And we had two competitors come down and the first guy to piss his pants won the won the Nintendo Wii. I’d win that so fast. It was It was awesome. Where where’s that rank in terms of the alltime comp like the zany radio competitions? I feel like that’s also a little bit of a lost art now. I feel like lawsuits have maybe muddied the waters on that front a little bit. Sure. But where what are the others? What’s on the Mount Rushmore of crazy [ __ ] you had listeners do? Oh man. I mean, we’ve had tattoos done. Most of the dumb stuff that’s been done I’ve done to myself. Uh, as far as trying to, you know, just get the people going a bit. I got my belly button pierced after we raised a bunch of money for, uh, the YW.CA. How much that hurt? It was, it was bad. The worst part was cuz I have a belly. So, every time I’d sit down, it would like get caught in my belt. So, I’d stand up and it would just be like I actually liked how it looked. Was a dangly one. Match your eyes. Yeah, you hear some of those contests that especially that used to happen around Edmonton where like guys would get hung up by like their nipples on chains and stuff on billboards and have to make out with their sister and we never got into that as much. You never went that far. That’s the Howard Stern age of like that kind of Yeah. Yeah. So, we uh we proposed the idea to you last week of the family feud. Yes. Game show. How’s it looking? Well, we need you to be more involved. If we need to just pull your weight a little bit here, if you don’t mind pull too busy lining you guys up free lunches to worry about family fe. I would have loved some of the turkey poutine if W didn’t take 30 helpings. We all watched him as the first guy who served up and like I was like immediately, oh, there’s not going to be enough. No, he took so much. He went and got a bigger spoon to serve himself with. It was unbelievable. And he didn’t finish it. No, he didn’t finish it and then complained about how full he was and then for whatever reason was like, “You’re wearing the same sweater you wear every day.” Which I haven’t worn for weeks. So, just throwing a chirp. He’s just mean when he’s full. He’s just mean when he’s in the wrong, he’s like lashing out at people. I had a roommate like that once and he just couldn’t handle chirps. He just must not have grown around grown up around the same like group of guys I did where we just try to hurt each other’s feelings constantly. But I’d say something like lighthearted with, “You should probably mix a vegetable into what you’re eating tonight, eh?” And he’d be like, “Yeah, well, you’re going through a divorce.” Like, “You don’t really get how this works, man. You’re going through a divorce.” Kind of a good trip. Reminds me of that Tobias clip from Arrested Development where Tobias is like, “What happened to your wife, Michael? She’s dead.” Anyways, So, the way family feud is going to work. Obviously, there’s two where Aaron refreshed me. There’s two questions that get asked and then there’s fast money, right? Two rounds and then fast money. Okay. So, we’re going to come up with a category and then you guys have to come up with a category, but Aaron’s going to find a question from that category. Sure. So, we got to think of one. We don’t have to do it right now. You can go back to your team. Yeah. and we’ll go to our team. But next week, we need to have a plan of like these are two categories and then we can send out the questions have to be Oilers or Edmonton adjacent. Yes. Yeah. Okay. So, for example, if you wanted to go like decade of darkness, right? Aaron could be like the five goalies from the decade of darkness. Something like that. Okay. Oh, you know what would be a good one? Worst thing that someone sitting by you at a game can do. Ooh, I feel like that’s a good family feud one, right? Like lean forward too much. Like the worst kind of person to sit by. Yeah, that’s a good idea. Last year when I went to it was game four against the LA Kings when they uh Oh, no, it was game No, it was game four. Anyways, that doesn’t matter. Um, I sit down in my seat, three ladies in front of me, and at one point before the anthem, I just see the one lady just kind of like duck her head down between her own legs and I was like, hm, interesting. Didn’t think much of it. Anthem’s finished and Ushers are coming down. She put her head down, yacked under her seat. Before the She was so drunk pre- Anthem, got kicked out. She’s I didn’t know what you were going to say there. I was trying to figure it out. I thought maybe illegal substances. No. Or uh smelling her own toot. I thought maybe I don’t know why that came to mind. That would be a weird thing to have somebody next to you do. She yacked and then her two friends cuz like the ushers come, they’re like, “Ma’am, you have to leave.” And she was like, “No, I’m good now.” And they were like, “There is vomit all over your seat.” Like, “You have to leave.” And her friends were like, “See you.” Yeah. And she was gone. And the friend stayed. I mean, if it’s regular season, maybe you go with your friend. Sure. Playoff game, not a difference. Also, sometimes after you yak, you do feel way better. Like, I kind of feel bad for maybe she was just like, “She hit the reset button.” Literally about to say that. So, one time I was at the uh the ranch roadhouse. Everyone remember the ranch here? Eli probably doesn’t. He’s such a young boy. Um, there’s no way he does. He’s 23. Yeah. Eli, do you remember the ranch? Well, that’ll do it. Thanks for bringing it up, Eli. Thanks, Eli. So, I went to the ranch once. It was my 19th or 20th birthday or something like that. And like you do, you get the party bus to the ranch. All your friends, you get there all of a sudden kilo shots are lined up or Tennessee honey as they usually used to do on the Saturdays at the ranch. And I ordered a drink. I think I literally ordered a water. The girl turned around. I yacked all over the bar. And I turned around to my friend Reed. Reed Tu and I said, “Give me your sweater right now.” And he saw that I had puke on my shirt and he’s like, “Okay.” And he ripped it off. I ran to the bathroom, threw my shirt behind the toilet, put my sweater on, and just got away with it the rest of the night. Nice. Quick reset. You’re good to go. That’s a good puke and rally story. Oh yeah. Not for the girl who had to clear my puke all over the bar, but for me it was fine. Hopefully somebody had some gum. Uh, just got a couple more drinks. Tennessee that Tennessee honey, that’ll do it. Swish around some like tequila in your mouth. Be like, “Yeah, that’s better.” On the nation vacation to Jasper years ago, my one buddy forgot uh toothpaste and we caught him using whiskey to brush his teeth in the morning. Yeah, he said a word. Oh boy. It just kills the germs maybe. Sure. Um recap of the week. You guys had James Duffy on. What was he like? He was awesome. There’s certain guys you meet in the industry and you just pray that they’re going to be as awesome as you’ve built them up to be in your head. Yeah. And I’ve been watching him. I mean, I think he started at TSN in 2002, so I would have been just going to broadcasting school at that time and wanted to get into sports and maybe TV. And uh so he was just always a guy I looked up to and I was a little bit nervous that he wasn’t going to be the same guy that I thought he was. But that was a silly thought cuz he is he’s perfect. His stories were awesome. I started listening to his uh his new book, Certified Beauties, yesterday at the gym and it’s really good. Like I was 15 20 minutes in and I love when you get into something like that where all of a sudden the time just vanishes when you’re doing cardio. So that’s a good one for that if you want. Double flex for you reading and going to the gym. Thank you listening to somebody. Um he talked about McDavid and Dry playing a Bailey league game, right? Yeah. Did he mention that? What did he have to say about that? So he I think it’s his daughter’s boyfriend played on the opposing team. Oh. And it’s all McDavid’s buddies that he grew up with have a beer league team. And it’s actually a pretty competitive league. A bunch of college guys. Um yeah, former players and whatnot. And McDavid and Dryidle or McDavid will occasionally show up and just lace up with his buddies for the good old times. And uh they see the vehicle pull up, an SUV that nobody else could afford. And McDavid gets out of the driver’s seat and they’re like, “Oh god, he showed up.” And then the passenger seat is dry settle. Oh, the door opens up and dry saddle gets out too and they’re just like, “Oh god, this other team.” And uh yeah, the goalie had played a game before, had a practice before, the regular goalie didn’t show up, so they pull this guy in who had like was rushing to get there and let him know in the dressing room like, “Guess who you’re playing against tonight.” But McDavid and Dry Settle both had five goals and uh I think the story went that they still ended up losing in uh overtime. They both had five goals and lost in over Conor and Leon sounds like an Oilers story. Just another day at the office for Conor and Leon. You’d think someone else could chip in like scoring 10 goals. Surely someone else who else scores on this team, you know, they bottom of the league most games. I feel like if you’re that good and you go into a beer league game like that, I feel like my mission would be like how many like how many assists can I get? Can I get Can I get the account from Asha next to me? Yeah. Can the accountant from Ashawa next to me? Like can he get six goals tonight that I just give him back door tapping? I I do remember cuz there was a lot of people showed up for that game if I’m not mistaken watching they clear they were not trying very hard. You could just see it. So it’s kind of funny they still scored. It just shows how much obviously those guys are better than everyone but any NHL player is better. It’s actually funny. Tristan Jarry when he comes back to Edmonton plays in a men’s league and he’s playing against my buddies and he doesn’t play as a goalie. He plays as a skater. He’s the best player on the ice. He’s not particularly close by the sounds of it. Yeah. They said dry side all came down first period kind of first time he had the puck crossed the blue line. Wired one and it hit the crossbar and then was so hard that it ended up hitting the roof of the rink too. But it’s the only way I’ve ever hit the roof of the rink is flicking it as hard as I can. Like to know that power. It’s the only way I’ve hit the crossbar. But the goalie said that was the hardest shot he’s ever even seen. I was going to say the goalie that got there 10 minutes ago is like, “Are you [ __ ] first shot of the game like by his ear?” He’s like, “Nope.” How cool is it for those guys though? Hey, like can you imagine just having that story though when you bust out when people are telling hockey stories? Yeah. One time Leon Dry settled scored five on me. Sick. But yeah, that’s what this book is. Uh, Certified Beauties, James Duffy. It’s just a bunch of great short stories. Liam and I had a clip that went like a little viral. What was that? maybe like a year, two years ago where we were like, “If you could like Freaky Friday switch bodies with any person in hockey media, who would it be?” And remember, we both said James D cuz he just gets to pick what he does. He’s got the sweetest gig ever. Yeah. World juniors. He’s a huge part of those Olympics and the Masters. And I think he just woke up in Super Bowl in Super Bowl. He literally just like when he negotiated his new deal, I’m pretty sure he was like, “I want to do these five things.” And they were like, “You’re James Duffy. Sounds good.” or their trade-off was like, you also have to do 10 regional Leafs games for us and like that’s the deal. But he is an un he gets to do all the good [ __ ] Yeah, I guess when what is it 23 years at TSN? That’s a hell of a run. And he definitely earned that. Oh yeah, he was he’s the best. He’s the best. Uh should we do our Friday fun zone? Sure. Okay, so I did it today. We had a debate earlier in the week and it sparked conversation. I don’t know what this is, by the way, so I’m this blind. We talked about NHL superstars specifically on Miko Ranton and I said he’s not a superstar. People disagreed. People disagreed on Instagram, believe it or not. So, I put together a list of NHL superstars. So, it looks like there’s a lot of players on there. There’s 29, but I mean, we’re going to be able to fly through these and we can delete the D category if that’s okay. If you even can. If you can’t, we just won’t use it. There we go. So, we have to categorize these players. Okay. And these are the top 20 um radio players on NHL 26 with a few others thrown in because I wanted to like guys like Logan Thompson, Nick Suzuki for example, Morgan Geekies on the list. Where does he fall? Can So nitpicking, can we put future superstar in between great player and good player? I feel like that’s more accurate ranking. Sure, that makes more sense to me. Okay, so there we go. So we let’s go through this. Okay, let’s do it. I’ll say the player, you guys decide between the two of you. Okay, let’s just throw Leon dry right on superstar, right? Superstar. Superstar right up there. Cucharov, easy superstar as well. I mean, he wins scoring titles, 100 plus points a year. Okay. Very. Do you have a debate on that? Never. Never would. Nick Suzuki. I would say based on some of the faces I’m seeing on this list, he might have to just go good player. I think he’s better than a good player, but for this list specifically in the context of this, like he might be an Olympian this year, but like when we look back at this era of the NHL in 10 years, are we going to be like, “Boy, that Nick Suzuki was a treat.” Like, no. He’s just a really good hockey player. Good player. Good player. Good player. Evan Bard, it’s my dog. Uh, put him in all four. Just put a space in all of them. Yeah, it depends on the game. on the game. Yeah. Which kind of bouch are we talking here? Um I think he’s great player. Yeah, I would I would say great as well. Like I mean he’s not the superstar defenseman are very easy to like put into one tier, right? It’s Mar Hughes and then it’s like the rest of the NHL. So I don’t think it’s fair to be like he’s a superstar and also the show the idiots know that like the idiots know. I know he’s a great player. Like yeah I have no I have no idy I have no problem with this. People are agreeing most mostly. Um, Mo Ransin, this is what sparked all this. This is what sparked it all. Yeah. And I think when you go through the process, it kind of makes sense where it is. But go on. I mean, with McKinnon, superstar, without McKinnon, which he is now. Mhm. Great player would probably be where I put him. I could see good as well with this list. Yeah, I think I’m leaning great. When he’s at his best, he’s so damn good. Like that playoff series, he he was the best player by the end of it, but he’s a little bit too streaky cuz we remember the end of the playoff series. The beginning was he was pointlessly like four games. So that was also crazy how they eliminated Colorado last year. Bananas. He eliminated them, too. Like Okay. So, he’s a great player. Great player. Yeah. Roman Yo, uh, sorry, Braden Point. Oh. Um. Oh, he’s he’s a he’s more of like Suzuki was so easy to just say good player. Braden Point is so much more of a tweener. He’s not a superstar. Not a superstar. Yeah. Has he ever had 100 points? He’s never had 100 points. No, he didn’t. I thought he came close. Good player then. Okay. He’s real close to being up there. But like for the sake of this like he’s not on a Miko Randon level. No, he’s not. He’s kind of what Miko Ranson was in a way on Yeah. Colorado is like you’re the third or fourth best player. Can I have whatever app you’re using for this? I just want to play this at home sometime. t.com. This is fun. All right. Okay. Roman Yosi. I I think it is important to remember that he is 35 years old, right? I agree. Was great in this category. good is where I’d put it. 5 years ago, was great would be a good one. So, yeah, I guess that’s a good point. Are we do is there any legacy layer to this or is it like It’s up to you. Current or Yeah. how they’ll go down. Yeah, I think it’s current. I think let’s basic off current today. That’s what we’ve done so far. Yeah. Mhm. H Yeah, he’s good. It is worth noting. So this is the last five seasons. I pulled this up really quickly. Best point per game season by a Dmen in the last 5 years. Carlson in 2223 1.23 points per game. That he’s the only defenseman to have 101 point or 100 points in a year. And Riosi was the only one that was close to him in 96, right? He had 96 the year before that. And that’s the second best season production wise that we’ve seen from a defenseman in the last 5 years. Like I’m pretty sure we can expand it even more. It’s it’s the second best season that a defenseman’s had in the last 25 years of the NHL. Yeah. So like he was great. He is now good. Has a Norris as Muich says. I get that. But like right now he’s if they No, I’m not going to say it. Go to the next player. Okay. I was going to say something about boosting him, but now I’m not. Um so Tyler asks as well Braden Point future star. Braen Point is now 29 years old. Yeah, he’s not there’s no future there. Jack Eel, superstar. Super superstar. Stanley Cup. I feel undeniable superstar had he not been drafted in the same year as with David. Yeah, that too. Cuz he was always just not the best player from that draft year. If there was a counterpoint if people wanted to throw our own logic back at us. Also never 100 point player. I also Yeah, close 94 points. This is very much an ability thing, but I also think the term superstar, there’s an aura aspect to it and Jack Eel has that kind of superstar aura to him. Sure. Okay. Did you know Carter Hutton Huts played with him in Buffalo? Up until like this last month, Huts exclusively used Jack Eel sticks in beer league after he retired because when they played together in Buffalo, Ekeel was so particular about a stick that like if there was I’m exaggerating, but like a paint chip on one. Eik would be like, “Nope, need a new one.” And Huts would just go to the trainer at the end of the week and be like, “How many ECLE sticks we got?” And he throw them in his truck and bring them home. So his whole beer league was funded off Jack Eichel sticks. Anyways, next player, Quinn use, very easy. Superstar. Superstar. Yeah, superstar. William Nelander. I think this one’s easy, too. Great player. Great player. Any other market, he doesn’t get the the fanfare and the press coverage that he does obviously, but he’s in Toronto. That that’s the only reason why I think some people might be like, “Oh, is he a superstar?” But no, he’s just a great player. Did you see him with the body mustache? What? He’s got a body mustache for November. I think he might be doing it for November. He came out as he often does without a shirt on and he had chest hair from like the pecs up but like waxed below like fresh fresh on the bottom like seems intentional. So it’s kind of like the mustache when you shave everything else. You know what I mean? Interesting. Something to think about. I tweeted about it. I was like this is going to blow up. Had like three likes 2 hours later and I just went to bed. Just went to bed. Interesting. And so now I’m going down the rabbit hole of looking at many shirtless pics of William Knander. That is a choice because there are pictures where he has the full See what I’m saying? Yeah. Yeah. Body mustache. Why is he doing that? It’s a new thing. Must be. He’s got the swag factor that he could create the body mustache like next November. That’s just what it’s going to be. Uh Austin Matthews. Austin Matthews face mustache. Is he the second best player on his team? But is he also a superstar? I don’t know. for you guys to decide. I mean, I think he is like, how many guys in the NHL like have the legitimate ability to score 60 goals in a season? There’s like three of them. Yeah. Okay. Superstar. Superstar. Logan Thompson. Great player. Future superstar. I think potentially is How old is he? I mean, he’s turned his career around in a way. He’s 28. 28 as a goalie. He’s like 25 as a player. Yeah, right. Yeah, I guess he’s an interesting one. He looks like he’s on track to be a future superstar. Well, like so if Helle’s hurt. He’s the odds on favorite for the Vzna. If he wins the Vzna, like if you’re the best goalie in the league, isn’t it? Goalies are so weird though to like classify with all these other guys. But like if he wins the Vzna, it’s pretty hard to not be like superstar. But he hasn’t. But he hasn’t. Future superstar. So we’re going to put a 28 years old. He even sniffing at like being nominated for he was. Yeah, he was close last year. Was he? Yeah. So, like back toback years of he’s probably as a finalist. Let’s go. Great player or future superstar. Do we think he’s going to have a three-year run where he can go in one box and one box alone? Great player. Okay. I think Hella Buck. Yeah, he’s not a superstar goalie. He’s a great player. Crosby, superstar. Superstar. Yeah, that’s an easy one. Morgan Geeky. I legitimately have been looking at this being like, who the [ __ ] is the bald guy? I know. Morgan Geeky currently. Isn’t he It’s unfortunate that the only bald guy on there’s last name is Geeky. Um 27 years old, 17 goals in 25 games this season. Yeah. Like this calendar year, I think he’s like close to the most goals in the NHL if you go from Jan one on. He has 33 goals. So he has 50 goals in his last two seasons. And what did we say for age? 27. He’s 27. Yeah. He turns 28. Yeah, from from January 1 of last year, so January 1, 2025 to right now, he’s the most goals in the NHL, but I still think he might just be a good player. I shooting 29%. Like, he’s not this He has 23 points and he’s minus minus 7. He has six assists. He has 89 career goals. 42 goals, 22 assists in that span, by the way. Yeah, he’s a good player. Good player. Good player. Matthew Kachchuck, begrudgingly superstar. O, I don’t think he’s a superstar. The thing is he’s either a superstar star or a good player cuz I don’t think I could put him in great player but everything he brings to the game I guess that or a factor. I can’t I don’t want to. You pick the Wingman podcast. It’s got to count for something. Shut up. I think he’s a great player. I would say great player. All right. I think he’s between superstar and great player. the fact that he’s a face of the league, but does that make you a superstar? Yeah, it’s a good question. He’s a superstar. He’s one of the most recognizable faces in the sport. Chat saying I can’t see. Uh superstar. Uh great player. Deaf supertore. Everyone’s just saying supertore. No, let’s make that one the poll. We’ll make a poll on that one. We can leave him for a bit. Yeah. Hean. Uh good. Oh, [ __ ] no. People are going to crucify me if I don’t put him in the same tiers. Bouch. Great player. Great player. Yeah. Yeah. Great player. Caro Capriovv. He’s also playing like 37 minutes a night right now, which is unheard of really. Every game Glenn Gulson goes through a bunch of decisions where he’s like, “Do I want Mero on the ice or do I want Alex Petravic on the ice?” And he’s like, “Fuck Miro again.” Okay. Um, Curo Capri off superstar. Superstar. I think 17 sheets. He’s got to be a superstar. Okay. Wyatt Johnston. Good player. Good player. There’s also a future superstar there. Is his ceiling maybe not just Braden Point? So if we’re not putting Braden Point above Wyatt Johnson, then we can’t have him in future superstar. Okay. Wide Johnson is 22. Yeah. And is he ever going to be like one of those guys you’re like face of the NHL? Wyatt Johnston. I don’t know. That’s what you guys should have said. Not me. I’m just I’m saying I’m saying good player. One day he could be a great player. Future great player should have been a tier. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think that’s fair. Yeah. Yeah. Nathan McKinnon came superstar. Superstar. Yeah. Pretty easy, right? David Pastnick. Superstar. Great player. I Oh, this is a tough one. Like 40 goals, 40 goals, 60 goals, 40 goals. Those are his last four seasons. That’s crazy. Braden Point had 50 goals once only two years ago. Ah, good player. Since 2020, do you think anyone has more goals than him? Couple guys. Dryle. All right. Only dry saddle in Matthews. Yep. He’s a great player. He’s a great player. Okay. Great player. Connor Badard at this point. I mean, this season’s superstar, but future superstar for sure. Yeah, we got to put someone in that future. Like him and Celinrini, I think you just go ding ding. They’re both future superstars. Yeah. Samurai. Hut. Great player. Great player. Okay. Thought about being petty, but great player. Barov’s interesting. Barov. Does he Does he get the aura points to push him into superstar? He was uh actually I think he was seventh on NHL 26 ratings. He’s like a 94 or three or something like that. something product of being [Music] I’m trying to catch myself like not saying out. Would you say there’s five guys you’d rather have on your team? Yes. Yes. Thoroughly. If he is doing if he is having like if he’s drafted a Columbus Blue Jacket, do we talk about him the same way? He was drafted a Florida Panther. Yeah. Yeah. But we still the Panthers built up around him like Okay. But when he went he they were nothing. Second overall. Does he have staying power if he was not on a great team? Like he’d still be a great player, but you know what I mean, right? Is would you ever would you ever have considered Patrice Berser on a stop superstar? Wait, we put Pastor Neack and Superstar, by the way. No, we didn’t. We said great player. We said great player. We ended up last minute saying great player and I was torn. So, I was happy that you made the decision. If we’re putting Barkov, Barkov and Pastor Neck have to be in the same tier. Yeah, I would agree with that. And I think great player is okay. Okay, that’s a We got a lot of superstars on there. Yeah, we do. Maybe someone is saying too many. I hear Connor Halabuk, superstar. Superstar. Vasilleski, past superstar. Former superstar. Former superstar. Like great player. Yeah, he’s still good. God, he looked good against us the other night, didn’t he? Yeah, he sure did. So, great player. Yeah, I think that’s okay. Good fit. Uh Rowenski, this is interesting. Same as Miro. I think he’s a great player. Okay. Would absolutely love to have him. Like he’d be on my list of 10 guys that if we could get would be an absolute game changer. Thomas. Someone’s saying this is bad. Whatever. Thomas Holly. Future superstar. Okay. It’s probably a fair one. He’s in his early 20s. He’s might be on team Canada this year. Like how old is he? Must be 23, 24. I think he’s might be 20. Yeah, he’s 24. Turns 25. A lot of Dallas on this list, eh? They got a lot of good players. Yeah, they do. Uh, okay. What did the chat say for Kachchuck? Great player. Okay, I think we got to move Bararkov and Pastnack up. It’ll fill out the superstar tier. Okay, but it’s not about filling the super. It’s not about even things out. I just think that it’ll look nice. Um, can I give what I would have done? Would you go less superstars? I would have taken Matthews Capri off out of superstar. I would have put Bouch as a good player. I would have put uh I think that’s probably it looking at it like so my superstars would have been oh we name I forgot to put McDavid on this list that’s funny he’s got his own category for this damn list McDavid is on this list so my superstars would have been Dry Saddle Cutrov Hughes pasta’s a superstar I’m sorry I think this is insane he’s so good he scores so many goals pasta sure pasta goes up pasta Barov stays now. I cut you off, Liam. I disagree. I just think again, like I said this the other day, I think superstars thrown around wildly. I think this is too many superstars. I think so too. And I again I don’t really have a number on superstars. Is that 11 superstars? Honestly, I would I would consider Vasilleski a superstar. Oh, but Pastaster is a superstar, too. Then you want to go like again like if we’re giving out aura points here, like pasta’s got to be up there. Uh people asking where’s a vetkin? I did the top 20 EA Sports. Yeah. And he wasn’t on there and I forgot to just throw them on cuz I looked at like kind of where guys were this year. Yeah, cuz like OV and McDavid are in that tier obviously. So like are there are there potentially 15 superstars in the NHL? I guess maybe 15. Maybe every every second team has a superstar. Maybe there should have been an allstar category and then superstar and then superstars. Allar is kind of great I guess. is franchise player. I think that’s different. Generational maybe could have been a category. Maybe. And you only get Is franchise player above superstar or below superstar? I think it’s below. So then maybe that’s the tier we needed cuz I think I that’s a good one cuz I would say like guys like Capriovv Matthews Pastnaka franchise players. Yeah, probably a guy like me in too to be fair. We also can’t post this because we don’t have Oie or McDavid and the Actually, maybe it’s a good rage bait. Maybe the engagements would be up. People like I don’t know if we need Rage bait. You don’t think you think we’re getting enough hate right now? Maybe. So yeah. So my changes would be before we end this Matthews Capri off Pastor Act to great bush down to good. I probably would have moved up future star Wyatt Johnson as well. Maybe B future superstar. No, I know. I just think Heiskinan and Warensky are probably better than him, but I think Bush is better than someone like Thomas Holly if not just like kind of an equal guy. Yes. Okay. So, what do you got going on this weekend? Oh, you’re doing a comedy show. I am. Yeah. Doing comedy show tonight. Ampersand 27 on White A. Uh, how long is your set? So, I’m doing 10 minutes to start and then I’ll introduce Carla Marx and then I jump on in between the two comics and do five more minutes. Oh, there we So, I’m I’ve written uh most comics will pound out jokes uh before something like this that people pay to go see, but I don’t do it enough for that. So, I I wrote uh about a three minute set on how I want to fight the one- arm push-up guy. And so, that’s what I’m leading off with. I’ve never told the joke before, but him and I are going to fight after I’m done. Does he only get to use one arm? That’s exactly. Yeah, you just got to punch that. Damn it, Liam. They say comedy is all about surprise, so maybe I have to rework that. No, if you’re going tonight, just forget what I said. That guy made me Google him one time and like he actually used to like compete for some type of contest. Like he was actually shredded as hell back in the day. He’s a machine. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, Matt Larkin was watching that segment, by the way. See what he thinks. Uh Ryder, thanks for popping on. Of course. Thanks for having me. There you go. Listen to him on the Sauce with Lisa every morning here on Oilers Nation. Goodbye, idiots. Let’s keep going on the Star Mechanical guest line. Residential, commercial, 24/7 emergency service. They do it all and they do it well at Star Mechanical as we welcome on Matt Larkin from Daily Face Off. Matt, critique our list. Oh boys, I first of all love the segment. Okay, but I was like a dog about to be released into the off leash park. I just wanted in on that segment so bad. Liam David Pastron is a superstar. He’s going to score 700 goals, at least 600. He’s going to be a Hall of Famer. 60 goals. Come on. Maybe he is. One category. Sorry. What was that? Liam. Liam. Tyler, you guys are missing a category. You need elite player. Between great player and superstar. Elite player. That’s where Jack Eel goes. That’s where Sydney Crosby goes at this stage of his career. If you add elite player, you’re golden. I could solve this for you like a puzzle in like five minutes. Okay. Go ahead. Okay. So, yeah. The floor is yours. What superstars go down to elite player? Jack Eel. Okay. Okay. Sydney Crosby at this stage of his career does as well. Fair. Uh Pastnack, if you introduce that category, I’m willing to go there. Okay. And then look at what we got for the superstars. Um I would still just put McDavid in this list just to avoid the rage bait like you guys said. And then we have Daddle, Quinn Hughes, Matthews, Capri off, McKinnon McGar. That’s perfect. That’s your tier right there, boys. Easy. So, is there anyone you’d move up? Like Bararkov probably goes to Elite, right? Yes, because he’s a Hall of Famer and I think you have to factor in entire career body of work, right? So, like Crosby would be superstar at his peak, of course. Same with Vasilki, but now they might be an elite player. Yeah, that’s fair. I move Vasilki up. Uh, Warren maybe goes up too. Elite player. Yeah. Norris finalist. Was he runner up last year or at least third? I think he was runner up. Yeah, the elite player tier actually does round this out pretty nicely. What do you What do you make of someone like Ranton? And I had some Dallas Stars fans very upset the other day when I said he wasn’t a superstar player. I don’t think he’s a superstar, but I think he’s at worst a great player. Yeah, I think he’s like right on the borderline of great and elite. I think in Colorado when he’s getting 100 points, 50 goals, you’d probably put him in the elite category. I think to me, just ask yourself, is the player going to be a Hall of Famer? I think Mikinan probably will. Do you think Booad’s a Hall of Famer? I just love that’s that’s some great great engagement bait there, Liam. Um I mean I think based on the body of work, he’s on that trajectory. I’m sorry. I mean, I’m always going to be a Booard defender. I’m with you. I mean, playoff success matters, playoff production matters, all of that stuff. It’s just you can’t change the past, but like god damn it, if they win that game seven two years ago, how much differently does the world view Steuart Skinner? How much differently does the world view um a guy like Evan Bushard and you know what that’s even a great segue Matt for me to ask you about a guy who’s been hot in the rumor mill for the Oilers and we’re going to talk some trade stuff obviously but like Jordan Bennington’s name comes up and every time I give it I’m not fully pushing back on it but I’m giving it like a gentle nudge back where I’m like hey you got to look at him for what he is now not what he was and people go proven winner doesn’t matter the year after he won the Stanley Cup for St. Louis, he lost nine straight playoff games over the next two playoff runs and had an 851 the one year and an 899 the next year. Like I don’t know if you can just sit there and be like, “This guy did it six years ago so he can do it again now.” Yeah, it’s interesting. So if we’re talking about Jordan Bennington and Tristan Jerry, it’s like I kind of want to almost address them at the same time. To me, the Jerry the Jerry talk scares me more because yes, he’s figured things out, went healthy this year, but he’s less than a year removed from a stretch in which he gave up a goal on the first shot of the game six times in 22 starts and got demoted and had an a mental meltdown meltdown last year, right? So, that market, I don’t know if I know he played for the Oil Kings, but I would be scared that he would revert to some of the struggles he had before. Jordan Bennington, I agree that he’s become an overrated goalender and he’s really dined out on an unbelievable all-timer first season in the NHL, right? He would have been the vess winner probably that year if he hadn’t come in and started dominating halfway through the year. Um, and I agree, he’s been quite inconsistent year to year over the course of his career. He’s also maybe the most emotional goalie in the league. So again, I don’t know if Edmonton’s the market for him, but I think the Four Nations performance goes a long way. He’s someone who was wobbly at times. Almost performed similarly to Skinner in terms of game to game, minuteto minute, don’t know where he’s going to go. Except Bennington did make the save he had to make when he really did, right? He out outdoled Connor Halabuk in the overtime. So, it’s hard because it’s anecdotal, but I do think that Bennington with the spotlight on him showed, okay, he still has that killer instinct. So I would actually prefer Bennington to Tristan Jarry for for the Oilers right now despite the fact that Bennington’s been terrible this year. So my counterpoint to it because I I’m a Jarry guy if you hold the two up. I don’t think there’s a world where St. Louis is keeping any of that money. I think they know they can get something for him like 6 million bucks this year next. I think they’re going to want to offload the full six. And I actually think that because Bennington has some fame behind him. Like you’re right at the same time Bennington was saving team Canada in overtime at at the Four Nations Tristan Jarry was sitting in Wilksar Scranton trying to get his career back on track but because of that and because Pittsburgh also has three goalies now she loves Murv and Blumquist I think there’s a world where they go yeah we’ll keep 50% of it if if you make it the right deal here because it’s miles better than buying them out. So then if you’re holding up Bennington at six mill, Jarry at 2.7, I like Jarry at 2.7 a lot more. It’s a fair point. I think you’re right. Acquisition cost would be significantly lower. And for the Penguins, I think Kyle Dubis is like, “Oh my god, Tristan Jar’s put together a small stretch of good hockey. Let’s get rid of him right now while we still can. Let’s sell high.” So I see the logic for sure. Um but I still worry. you bring in Jarry and then a month from now we’re just doing the whole goalie discussion again he could melt down and have an 870 save percentage over over a span of a month and I again just based on what happened mentally with Jarry last year I’d be really worried that it would happen again so yes good acquisition cost but maybe there’s a third goalie you could pursue instead I’d be interested in maybe a buy low on someone like Elvis Mers Lickens because Jet Greavves has taken the net in Columbus and I don’t know Mlickens to me I think he’s got a certain swagger to him. He’s got a lot of personality and I think you could argue that suits him to a market that’s high pressure because I think he’s just I don’t know. I think he wants to be that guy. He’s got that mentality. They got to keep half if I’m touching him. Kind of in the same boat where like if I’m taking the risk on Merl Lickens, it’s because you Don Wedell are buying him out in July and I’m going to do you a solid and take half his money from you right now and it’s way better than a buyout. Yeah, I think that’s fair. And I think if you’re shopping in that bin, I think you have that degree of leverage. It’s just a matter of does Stan Bowman need to aim higher and go for one of the pipe dream type of targets. Much harder to get. I know people love to say you see Saros when they’re sort of fantasy casting, but again that’s so much term to take on. That would be a very complicated trade to make. So I have a two-part question on Jari cuz I just want to gauge a bit more understanding of him. The first part anyway. So the first part is we were looking at the Penguins blue line earlier on in the show and you look at it and it’s like okay what do they really have? But somehow all three of these goalies are playing well. So firstly what is going on in Pittsburgh in that regard? The second part of it is if there’s this problem with Jarry, his mentalness and just health in general for him, do you think the others it would be a good idea for the Oilers to also try and keep a Steuart Skinner in that situation too where it’s okay if this goes poorly at least we know Skinner can play a stretch of games for us? Yeah, it’s tough. So in terms of Pittsburgh what they’re doing. So first part Liam um I think you have to give a lot of credit to Dan Muse and the Penguins. I was looking into them last week for a story I wrote for Daily Face Off. Kind of trying to investigate if they’re for real. Obviously, when you get great goalending from three different guys, it’s going to help prop up your record. But as of last week when I wrote the story, they had the best all-around special teams in the NHL. They were doing a tremendous job defending with the man advantage and the other team has a man advantage. And so, I think they’ve made some gains that are kind of for real, which makes me wonder if they’re actually going to stay like in the bubble, the playoff periphery all season. I don’t know if that’s necessarily good for them. um because I think they would be better off trading guys like Ryan Rust and Ricard Raquel, bringing in some assets and kickstarting a rebel, but I do think they’re showing signs of being not a bad team instead of maybe I thought they’re going to be the worst team in the league. Um and for the second question, Liam, I don’t know if you have Stuart Skinner and Tristan Jar, you just have two Steuart Skinners. That doesn’t sound like a lot of fun to me. I’d rather have Tristan Jar and maybe Callum Picker. I get that in this scenario with Pittsburgh, I don’t see them wanting to take Skinner back the other way because they’re trying to clear the log jam. So, I guess you would have that scenario to deal with either way. Yeah. Do you have two Steuart Skinners or do you have two Tristan Jarries? That makes you think. That makes you think. I’ll take the positive approach. Two Tristan Jarries. Correct. Current state. Uh you have the first trade board of the year is up at dailyfaceoff.com. Um, a whole bunch of Western Canadian teams, a whole bunch of Pacific Division teams are kind of featured throughout this thing as well. But let’s start at the top. Raasmus Anderson, I guess, Nasam Kadri to some extent. Blake Coleman has his name in there. How long do you think the Flames wait here before they start like, you know, really selling off these assets or do you think like do you view them as maybe a team who like controls the deadline this year with these guys? Yeah, I think they have the luxury of doing both. So what I mean is you could take your expiring asset which is Rasam Sanderson and maybe be a little more hasty to move him. We know that Craig Conroy has been willing to do that before. He traded Zidorov in November two years ago and he traded Elias Lindholm in late January when we were at the All-Star weekend. So to me what if you know what if Raas Anderson gets hurt tomorrow and suffers a season ending injury. He’s an expiring contract. You get nothing for him, right? So to me I think you could be a little quicker looking for the right the right team for Rasam Sanderson. Also, he’s the reigning first star of the week. He’s hot right now. He’s playing his best hockey in a long time. I think it’s a nice window to sell high. Um, but with Nasmodri and Blake Coleman, it’s two different things to weigh. Number one, I know of course the Flames, Mary Edwards, they want to stay competitive and you want to keep some of your culture setters. So, there’s some there’s thinking, okay, maybe you trade off most of your pieces, but you keep Kadri because you want someone to be the emotional leader of the room. I think overall, just because he has that term left, you can wait. you can see if you get the perfect offer leading up to the deadline. So, I don’t think you have to rush on anything with Nasma Cadri. Blake Coleman, he also has term left. I think he’s someone that you do move because he’s in his 30s now like Cadri, but I think Coleman, he’s just a lower ceiling asset, but also someone who would command a nicer return because he can play on your third line. He can play wing or center. He’s got two Stanley Cups. He kills penalties. So, if I’m looking at those three guys as your assets, I think I’d be trying to figure out a trade for Rasmos Anderson as soon as possible. Also, it would free up some more minutes for Zane Preak when he’s back healthy, too. And then I’d say Coleman maybe is the next piece. And Cadri, you have the luxury of waiting for the perfect offer to come along. The Nashville Predators, I think it would be an understatement to say things have gone poorly because everything is going bad there. But you’ve got Stamos, Marshall, and Ryan O’Reilly. But Ryan O’Reilly really feels like the the one player that could fetch you a decent return cuz his cap pit’s reasonable. is also done in a couple of years ahead of what those guys would be like. He is the guy they’ll probably get the most for, right? I think so because I think O’Reilly, he only has the one year left after this one if I’m not mistaken. I don’t have in front of me, but Consite Trophy winner and he just brings those intangibles and he’s been in that scenario before where he was a rental. The Leafs did it and he was quite an impactful and helpful player for them, right? He’s still a good defensive player. I know he’s really hard on himself and he’s claiming he’s terrible now, but that’s not true. He’s got a great stick. He’s a clean player, too. He plays shut down minutes, but he doesn’t take penalties, which is very hard to do for that style of player. Agree. He’s going to command a nice return. I think he’s a relatively easy piece to move if you want to do it. Uh to me, Stamco. So, in the story, I was comparing Steven Stamos to I think he could be what Brett Hall was at the end of his career. Not when he went to Arizona, like when the lockout happened, but when he was a Detroit Redwing. He’s kind of a specialist. He’s near the end, but you can just trot him out there on the power play for his one-time. I still think Steven Stamco’s in the right situation could be useful. And if you look at what he has left, he has the two years left, right? I don’t think that’s absolutely prohibitive, especially if the Predeome salary on a deal if they retained a little bit. Mariso to me is the tough one. He’s a Cons trophy winner, but you look at the season he had a couple years ago, scored 40 plus goals. It kind of felt like an outlier year for someone who is a very good player, but I don’t think was ever an elite player. Um, but he got a nice contract out of it and he’s in his 30s now. He has more years left than the other guys, right? I think he has three left after this one if I’m not mistaken. Uh, so to me, he’s the more complicated piece to move because his value is down as you see the numbers there and if you’re taking him on, are you willing to take on several years of term for a player who I think is is in decline. I think it’s riskier. I viewed him as like a nice piece and I know Stamos has been connected to Chicago, but like if you were Chicago and you’re like, “Hey, we want a good leader in the room. Who gives a [ __ ] if he’s making five and a half? Two years from now, he’s on our third line. We have boatload, we have a boatload of cash. Today on DFO, I wondered about him and even the New Jersey Devils where I’m like, hey, if they don’t want to give up a ton of premium assets, maybe it’s something where like, you know what, Nashville, you got to take Andre Palad off our hands. We’ll take Marsho. We’ll do a little bad energy swap for bad energy swap. Give you a pick as well. And maybe that’s a guy who’s like better fit to play with a Jack Hughes or something. Yeah, I could see that. and and obviously he’s had good linemates when he was in Vegas before too and and again when I say you know it sounds like I’m dumping on March so saying he’s declining but that was more just in comparison to Stamos and O’Reilly as an asset. I think in a vacuum I I I agree he’s still a desirable player to target especially if Nashville was willing to eat a little bit. I know it’s less likely to that a team retains when there’s a lot of turn left unless you’re San Jose. Um but if if they were willing to I think he could be quite an appealing target and we know he’s proven in the playoffs he’s got a feistiness to his game. I think he elevates his game in the playoffs. I was going to go on if it’s on a trade one, you go first. It’s a trade one. Okay. Okay. Um, one of the teams as I flip through the different tiers you had and I got right to the end. Man, Seattle’s got some good assets. And I know I’m sure there are Kraken fans who really want them to make the playoffs and I can understand why you would, but they’re going to make the playoffs and lose in round one to whoever they face. Like that’s how I view the Seattle Kraken. Whereas like if you made some tough decisions this spring and you said or this winter, March, whatever March is, Jaden Schwarz would get you a lot. Mason March would get you a lot. Teams love to add guys like Mason Marchman ahead of the playoffs. Jamie Alexiaak, what team ahead of the playoffs doesn’t want a massive defenseman who blocks shots and kills penalties? I even would go a step further. What does your captain Jordan Everly get you? Like they they have all of these guys who would fetch really really really good deadline returns. I’m just worried they’re going to convince themselves they’re better than they are. I totally agree. And you even have some other assets I think that you if the team really wanted to get creative and swing for the fences. Joey Dord has a I think quite a good contract and has been one of the best goalies in the league the last couple years. And Jiren McCann now back healthy. I think he’s in terms of goal scoring the best player they have in terms of a potential asset. But you’re right Tyler. I think Seattle I’ve said this over and over that making the playoffs in their second year was the worst thing that could have happened to them. It screwed them up. It broke their brain. It made them think they were better than they were. It cost them high draft picks to build around. And they’re living in this mid zone. And if you talk to a Minnesota Wild fan or a Nashville Predators fan, they’ll probably tell you it’s not fun to just be the team that’s always, you know, 15th overall or 19th overall. You’re barely making the playoffs. Other years, you’re not making it. You’re getting bounced in the first round. And I think Seattle, they’re kind of too competitive for their own good right now. They’re stuck in that zone. And I was looking at the standings the other day and I was like, “Oh my god, they’re in a playoff spot. What are they doing? No. So, it’s tough. They’re going to be a team. You have to kind of wait them out and see if they sink enough that they’ll move pieces at the deadline. I think Pittsburgh’s in a similar boat right now, too. Uh Mike Mat signed a new deal today. What was it? 5 years, 6 million per year. What did you uh what did you make of that contract? I think again, I don’t know if it’s a copout when I say it, but I I just I say it because I believe it. You have to filter all these deals through the lens of the rising cap, right? So it’s 95 and a half. Next year it’s 104. Year after that it’s 113. So suddenly a 6 million AAV for a top four guy. It doesn’t look so bad at all. And I just think Matson has been a good soldier for the Havs. When they needed him to be an offensive player a couple years ago he puts up 60 points. He’s playing PP1 and now Elaine Hudson comes in and you’re sort of transitioning Mats into more of a I guess you could call shutdown role, right? He’s been playing with no adoption most of the time. And I just think he’s been a versatile piece. And it’s funny, he was someone who was viewed as a bust, who was a big prospect, right? And if you look half a decade ago, he he was looked at that way as bust. And I think he’s found himself with Montreal. And he’s an important leader for a team that is very young. I think they were the youngest team ever to make the playoffs last year by average age. You do need some of some veterans in the room to set the tone. So, I think he’s a good fit, an important piece, and I don’t mind that value. All right. Uh Matt, appreciate you giving us some time as always. uh the full trade board up at dailyfaceoff.com if people want to give it a give it a read. A ton of really interesting names there that we didn’t even have time to get to, but nonetheless, thanks for popping on. We’ll chat soon. Thanks, boys. Cheers. See you. And don’t you have the mustache. The mustache is really, really good. Mustache got Yeah. Looks great. The chat loved it as well. Um all right. Go to nationgeear.ca to read more. Um, let’s get to those comments from yesterday on Spotify. I think we had a few of them. What did we ask Seattle at Skinner for what’s his name? Did you do Skinner for Jar 50% retained? Okay, cool. Wenzel is in longtime listener even longer idiot. Thanks, Tyler. I’m fine with Jarry this season. Skins needs a new start before we break the guy mentally, but what in the hell is Nashville going to take from us in the offseason if we go after Sorrowos? Don’t want to give up Seavoyer Howard? We’ve got nothing. It’s not going to happen. Thoughts? Goalies never go for as much as you think. And I think Nashville would be if they’re heading into a rebuild, which is the only way they trade Sorrowos. If they’re heading into a rebuild, the incentive for them is they’re out of that contract. Mhm. Like the whole point of signing Sorrowos to that deal is like you get him in his early 30s at a at a good number and then you bite the bullet towards the end of that contract. If you’re rebuilding then you’re just going to get to a point at the end of that contract where you’re trying to compete with an old expensive goalie and like they wouldn’t want that. So the incentive for Nashville I think is to get out of the money. And the good news for them is that they drafted Ascarov in the first Oh, they traded him. Yeah. Damn it. Ah, classic Barry Dan is in says, “Not sure if anyone asked this, but is there any chance that CL Clattenberg is attached to a Skinner trade? Did they bring him up to see how he plays in the NHL for another team or did they bring him up to see if they could replace a starter who goes with Skinner?” By the way, love the show. I live in Auckland, New Zealand, and listen every day on my morning commute. Thank you for watching along, Dan. Um, I don’t think they called up Glattenberg to showcase him for a trade. He’s not Every team has guys like that in their system. Agreed. Yeah, Parker is in. I was at the Stars game on Tuesday and can honestly say that was probably the most lifeless crowd I’ve ever been a part of. I love Stu and I think I can speak for most Oilers fans when I say we as a collective love Stu and want to see him succeed, but at the end of the day, it’s a business. This this team has no life right now and it’s obvious whether it’s Jarry or Binner or whoever else. It’s time for a change. This team needs a spark. Fair. Yeah, I completely agree. Jesse, I like Jarry way more than Bennington because of the salary if 50% retained. Yep. The acquisition cost probably costs peanuts compared to Bington. Yes, St. Louis is going to try cash in on Bennington’s name value, but I think he’s just as hot and cold as other goalies. So, I don’t know. I agree with you, Matthew. Big idiot here. Not a fan of Bennington’s freakouts. He’s a manchild. I’d much rather have Jarry even just because he’s not bitter. Also, Oilers got to figure out something soon. I have Jake Wman in fantasy and the other week he went negative three games in a row and got hurt. I’m getting slimed here. That’s how you know Matthew’s probably in his early 20s. Yeah, slimed. Have to ask Reese what that means. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It’s a Ghostbusters thought. Must be one of the girl ones. CQ. I think acquiring Jar would be worth the gamble, but can’t see the pens wanting Skinner in return. They already have three or four goalies. Yeah. And again, maybe there’s a world where like, oh god, this doesn’t make sense. But like, do you trade Kulak for Jarry? Is there a team who would give you a sixth defenseman for Skinner? Well, the Oilers traded Deon Dubnick for Matt Hendricks. Correct. So that’s where we’re at with things. I think if we want to keep comparing Skinner to Doobie, we’re getting a bottom six forward. Damn it, Brendan. Or maybe there’s three trades to make. Maybe you trade Yanmark for Jarry. You trade Kulak for a second. And then you trade the second that you get for another defenseman. And then where am I in this? And then you trade Skinner for Yanmark’s replacement. There you go. Mhm. Full circle. Four trades. It’s easy. Stan Brendan’s in. Hey guys, on the last show I think Liam mentioned the thing people talk about when the Oilers get 900 goalending they win. And Tyler said everybody does. I was actually curious about this. So I Ryan Husk Chad GBT looked it up. League average winning percentage with a 900 is 65%. Oilers are 70 and1. So much better than the average. That said, we’ve only had 28% of our games with goalending getting a 900. I guess the conclusion is that the Oilers do better than most teams with decent goalending. And I think that the Oilers are an elite team, right? They pay for pay very little for their goalending. But it makes sense that when the goalending that they pay very little performs, they’re above average and very expensive blue line and forward group is able to win the game. I think that’s a fair fair way to address it. Yeah, it’s true. Brady says, “I’m ready for a new starting goalie, and I bet Skinner is ready for a new home, but the question from Jim Mat today was rude and disrespectful, and he should be ashamed of himself. have some respect for Stu as a person and I’ve dived deep and I’m okay with Jarry’s stats. I’m all in for him. The trade that we talked about on the podcast. Great stuff, Brady. Um yeah, listen, I I also think you you those guys talk to each other every day, so I think they kind of know Jim’s tone and the way he asks things. I don’t think Stuart Skinner pulled Jim aside after and was like, “Fuck you.” Yeah, I didn’t love that question either. I don’t think fan thought should be brought into the dressing room. That’s fair, too. I think in certain circumstances, it’s fine, but like that one, I just think there’s no need. I’m sure Skinner knows. Uh, Ryder says, “Hey guys, on 32 Thoughts, they talk a lot about William Knander. What do you guys think the Oils would have to do to give him up or to get him? Uh, Toronto is not trading. Who might he’s been their best player this year?” Um, maybe in 15 years when William Knand is like 35. Yeah, inif in 15 years he’ll be like 45. Well, maybe then then maybe he’s young. Remember when his dad said he didn’t want to play here and his mom was crying? Never forget. Oh, you didn’t live in Canada during that time. Yeah, it was crazy, Liam. It was crazy. We pay very little right now, Tyler. This from Soup. We pay very little right now, Tyler. But what’s Skinner’s next contract look like? We kind of brought that up yesterday. We I don’t know where that goes. I just don’t see it being in Edmonton unless unless somehow Skinner stays a season, which I think is slim to none right now. It’s less than 40% I would think, and they have a legit starting goal and we’re like, Stu, you’re our backup goalie. We’re going to give you a $1 million raise just in this hypothetical world deal. Let’s pay that two goalies. Just say 9 million. I don’t know, just a number spitball. I think that’s the only I’ like he’s such a hard goalie to gauge because then when you look in the market there’s not many good goalies and you’re looking at a guy that as a team in free agency just say you’re a middle team. Mhm. And you’re like hey like we have this guy our defense is solid. He’s gone to a couple of cups. He’s a bit up and down. Do we pay him three and a half million? Maybe. I don’t know. I really can’t think of a comparison for him just off the top of my head. What do you think? He’ll get a job next year. Oh, a million%. He’s an NHL goalie. As much as some people like to be like, he’ll be gone in a few years. Like, no, he won’t be gone. The NHL goalie carousel is real. God, how pissed are you going to be when he’s backing up Aroski next year. He’s got like a 912. Yeah, that would. There’s our Spotify question for the day. Uh, let’s do a little what’s trending for ood Noodle. You can take advantage of the value menu deal and get two green onion cakes, five spring rolls, or six wontons added to your order for just $2. Any signature premium box ood.ca. Um Reed Schaefer is going to make his NHL debut tonight. Congratulations to Reed Schaefer. Congratulations. Barry Trot said he wants to start playing the young guys. They also have guys like Matthew Wood is another top prospect they have. Uh Reed Schaefer 14 points, 15 games this season for the uh Milwaukee. He’s actually putting it together down there a little bit. Yeah, he’s done okay. Roby Jarventi numbers. He must have got he must have got injured last season cuz he only played 15 games. He is tied for second on their team in um in points. All right. So, we’ll see. Good for good for him. Uh there was a clip going around the other day. A lot of people are new to being Blue Jays fans after their success this year. Um Oh, and there was a clip of Jeff O’Neal being like, “I’m stunned Bob Bashette hasn’t signed yet.” The way baseball off seasons work is guys don’t sign till like after the winter meetings in December, Christmas, January even. The market is a way slower slower burn than hockey. Like guys have been eligible to sign for two weeks and the Jays are the only team who’ve made a big ad. I was going to say this doesn’t seem like there’s anyone that’s really gone anywhere. There’s one signing of over $und00 million of over I think $50 million. Even Otani that went quite not late but like it wasn’t quick. That was right around Christmas I think was it? Yeah. So yeah, I I mean again, I don’t know a lot about baseball, but I uh I feel like it’s always like I didn’t even know like the free agency period had opened. It’s been that slow. It opens with no fanfare. It’s just like uh Lance Kane. This was unbelievable. Lance Kane went to the autograph session, got the Conor McDavid autograph, and had Conor McDavid write cupear on it. Cup year. If the Edmonton Oilers win the Stanley Cup this year, Lance will be able to sell this for, I’m not even kidding, thousands of dollars, tens of thousands. He should have got McDavid to date it is what he should have done. Um, but like this will be incredibly valuable. So, here’s Lance’s story cuz we love Lance. This is unreal. He goes, “I went to the mall at 7:30 a.m. and waited in line for 10 and 1/2 hours around hundreds of people and screaming kids just so I could get this signed picture of Conor McDavid. He gave me a little chuckle when I asked him to write cup year. He said, “Cool jacket to me.” When I showed him that I have space on my back for a patch when we win another cup, he said, “Wow, I really like that.” And then I told him, “I appreciate everything you do for the city.” He nodded while he signed his name. Then I said, “I love you.” As he handed me the picture and he said or did absolutely nothing. I ran across the mall to the Newton Hopkins line and stood there for about an hour and 15. No word of a lie. I was the fourth person in line at 8:00 p.m. when they closed the signing. It was my first time at an Oilers signing. I finally had the day off. I had a great time from Lance. That’s awesome, Lance. That’s so cool. Good job, Lance. Get that framed. It’s, you know, there was a lot of messaging yesterday around like what will people do at at this uh signing to players, especially the goal. It’s like if you’re going there to be an [ __ ] then get a life. And I don’t think anyone there was no I didn’t see anything of people being [ __ ] but like it’s people like Lance that like make this fan base what it is who go to these events and like try and have a bit of fun with the players and make them real. Kennedy and WS were there too and it was like so many other people I saw DM does on Oilers Nation of just like them having a great time at this event. Reason why they do it. Yeah. Yeah. And I’m glad everyone had a fun time. And it’s fun that these the fans who maybe don’t get to go to games every week. I And like I’m not trying to downgrade people by any means, but these people who can only go in the preseason. So like the fact that they get to go and meet these players so openly, even if they don’t stand in line, but you’re walking past and you see Conor McDavid, that’s everything. And like people again like making fun of the people who are lining up for pick and Skinner. It’s like you don’t think the seven-year-old kid that’s a goalie is inspired by Skinner and Picker. Like they want their stuff signed cuz those guys are their heroes. And we get it cuz we watch them every day. We have a different opinion. We see the game a lot different. But like a lot of people in our chat are like very there you’re a certain niche of Oilers fan. There are also a lot of people who just like turn on the game, love to watch the Oilers for 2 and 1 half hours, game ends, go to bed, wake up the night, they don’t consume any of this stuff. They don’t care at all. They don’t know cap hits. They know none of that 100%. So yeah, I love that the Oilers do this. I love that they also make it a private event for their season ticket holders. They do make their players quite accessible in in certain ways. So yeah, it’s great. I’m glad everyone had a good time. All right, let’s wrap up the show for BET365. Download the app today. Use the promo code nation. Whatever the moment, it’s never ordinary. Bet 365. Gentlemen, our NFL parlay this year is up 4.9 units even though it’s only 29 and one. Uh but let’s take a look at the Sunday slate in the NFL and do our weekly NFL parlay. Anything jump off the page to you guys? I want the Buffalo Bills. Aaron Rogers is playing. I don’t care. He’s Aaron Rogers. Good point. Minus three Bills against the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Love it. Let me have a look here. I’m uh kind of out on the NFL right now. Team’s not going to make the playoffs. I will go with Oh boy, these all kind of suck. Oh, maybe Rams minus 10. Yeah, Ramsus 10. We can play Carolina. Carolina home team which isn’t too bad. This is an act Sam Donald revenge game against a nobody. Seattle minus 11 and a half. Yeah. Yep. Yeah. I think Yeah, cuz they don’t have JJ. That’s probably Brosmer. Of course. Who? Who exactly? Probably better than JJ. Sorry, nine. Not to be rude. Come on. Um, kind of tempted on Jags minus 6. Tempted on Tad. Yeah, I’m going Dan. Do Have you seen the clips of Daniel Jones trying to run with his fractured leg? He’s like trying to play through a fractured leg. I just think that Who do they play? Houston’s defense. CJ’s back. I like the over. CJ isn’t even a factor in this for me. It’s the fact that defense is the best. I’m going Texans plus three and a half. Yeah, I think that’s a good line, actually. All right, you play those three together, boys, and you get it at plus 581. I just locked it in on my app. Bet it on the app. Put it on the sheet. There we go. Edmonton plays Seattle tomorrow. Matinea for the Edmonton Oilers. Uh, do they have the lineup? They do. The Oilers are minus 160 favorites plus 165 on the puck line. Malf Rosik out multiple weeks. Yes, we should touch on that before we wrap up. Jack Rosic out multiple weeks for the Edmonton Oilers. That is a dagger and puts a lot of pressure on a lot of guys. Um, Kapanin is a week at least and could be longer. WMAN is progressing maybe next week. So, Wman, I’d say late next week probably, but the fact that Rosik’s going to be out two weeks. We’re going to be close to Christmas by the time you get him back. That sucks. That sucks. They need like Mania, all all those guys, pressure’s on now. Step up. Let’s go. Yeah, I agree. Aaron’s got pregaming tomorrow at 1:00. Yes, sir. Me and Kumzi down here at Dog Patch and it’s the return of Patrick Puff. Wow. Patrick Puff show. Brett’s taking the week taking the weekend off. So cool. Gang’s back. Gang’s back together. New episode of Oilers Nation Radio podcast form will be out later today. Video form out tomorrow morning at 8. And then uh a new episode of Ask Dub out at 10 a.m. on the Nation YouTube. Beautiful stuff. We got you covered on the weekend. Game day edition or game day coming tomorrow on the site. Um but I hope you all have a excellent weekend. What are you doing this weekend? Um, I got to go watch some minor hockey on Sunday and then obviously the audience game is at two tomorrow and then tonight I think a little bit of Christmas shopping. Uh, and I’ll say something to the audience. Maybe Sunday. My theory is Sunday might make a deal. So, we might have an emergency show. Yeah. Hold on to your butts on Sunday. Don’t go outside. Although I just said I have to go to a hockey game. I might not go. We’ll see what happens. Um, I I’m I got to get ahead of my Christmas shopping, too. Um, as you guys know, I got a new car recently, so I’m in my honeymoon phase with my new car, so I’m just ripping everywhere. Shout out to my friends at Hyundai, by the way. I got a brand new Palisade that I’m ripping through the snow in. It handles beautifully. Um, but I just want to drive everywhere and basically live in the car. So, I’m using that to be like, “All right, wherever I need to drive to go get Christmas shopping done, I am now more than happy to do it cuz I’m ripping around in this thing.” Fair enough. I’ve also got the the curse and the blessing of it is uh the guys who live by me that I play men’s league with have we figured out we can fit four hockey bags in the back. Beautiful. So now it’s a family vehicle. It is. And I’m using it to transport my friends to men’s league. Um but I now cuz they all live by one car. We’re good. Problem solved. So curse and a blessing. But I love it. Uh Mo is in. I am extremely doubtful any move happens before the deadline. Okay. I pro I promise you things are moving. Things are cooking. Yep. Yep. Yep. All right. That’s a wrap on today’s edition of the show. Have a great weekend everybody. We’ll see you back here on Monday. Oil up. What’s up nation citizens. 1. I think trading Skinner with how terrible the defence has been is a huge mistake, especially when looking at the return options.

Id prefer a 1A/1B move to go alongside him, make the cap work somehow or just wait for the offseason to get better options. No goalie move is going to change the outcome if the team infront keeps playing as bad as they have been.

  2. Tyler if you are tripping out out about what people think about you. You’re already losing at this. Evan bouch is a great example. Nobody is as intelligent as you when it comes to takes and facts as you in Alberta takes as a whole. Keep in mind you’re not a crazy athlete but. You have a take weekly making you more legit than bob stauffer Jason and who ever else who else essentially trying monthly takes that are on point. Keep doing your thing brother. You are smart !
