It’s Time To Have A Hard Conversation…
[Music] What’s going on everybody? Welcome to the Vikings now by chat sports. My name is Patrick Seman and coming up on today’s show I want to talk about JJ McCarthy, Kevin Okonnell, and Quacia doofmensa. And we’re going to have some tough conversations on today’s show because it’s a head coach, quarterback, general manager league after the Vikings fell to four and seven after their loss to the Green Bay Packers 23-6. we got to address it on the head and talk about those three people here for the Vikings organization. Before we dive into it, if you guys could hit that subscribe button today, we just crossed over 67K um earlier last week. So, I do appreciate everybody um hitting that subscribe button. But if you guys are new here and not subscribed to the channel, hit that subscribe button today. I’m going to start off talking about JJ McCarthy because obviously a lot of conversations going on with number nine and it was another really, really, really bad game today. Um, I don’t think he was the biggest reason for the Vikings losing this game to the Green Bay Packers, but he had a huge piece of the pie. I thought the offensive line play was terrible. I thought Kevin Oonnell’s play calling was terrible, but also JJ was just flat out bad. He is a guy that is playing with no confidence right now. He just has no feel for the NFL game. He is very jumpy. He He mechanics are bad. It He is just playing bad football. So, we know that he looks terrible. Now the question becomes is what do the Vikings do? Um I think it would be absolutely ludicrous to turn the Max Brosmer or to turn the John Wolford or anybody else. Like the Vikings don’t have another quarterback on this roster. Well, I think we need to see because I understand Max Bromer, you know, went to Minnesota. He was a golden golfer. All of you guys love him, but everybody loves a backup quarterback until the backup quarterback’s got to play. And when you have a guy like JJ McCarthy who is still 22 years old who just made his sixth career start, you got to let him develop still because he is going through it right now. Like the the Vikings are getting the worst quarterback play in the league and it sucks. Um it really does and it’s tough to watch sometimes. But we need to go through this because are you going to go to Max Brosmer and is he going to light the world on fire with how bad the overall offense is playing right now? The drops, the pass protection’s terrible, the playing calling’s terrible. Like it’s not like you’re walking into a good support system, which is also another tough reality of this Viking season because we always kind of said this off seasonason is like, “Oh man, you could drop almost any quarterback into this Viking system and they could be somewhat successful.” That hasn’t been the case. Like Carson Wentz came into this system. He struggled this year. JJ McCarthy has obviously been struggling this year. Now, is it because those two just haven’t been playing good individually? Yes, 100%. But also, I think the support system has taken a huge step back. I mean the drops even again today Adam Thielen dropping a pass when you’re down 20 in the fourth quarter and it rubbed me the wrong way. He started laughing after like just kind of laughing at what a joke himself and the rest of this Vikings offense is. But it’s not like you were a good support system for the young quarterback whoever it may be. So what do you do? Like how do you approach the rest of the season? How do you approach this off season? I think for the rest of the season you just roll out with JJ no matter what. Maybe if we get to the week 18 game and I forget if it’s the Lions or the Packers. I’m pretty sure it’s the Packers, but let’s just say we’re playing the Packers at home and JJ kind of looks like more of the same than he’s looked over the last couple weeks. Okay, sure. Then you can maybe roll with Max Brosmer. But then again, I would still rather have JJ get those reps because the Packers no matter what are probably playing for some sort of playoff seating. So I would rather just go, you know, stick with JJ, have him get get that experience. But, you know, also with JJ, like what do you do this off season? I think maybe you bring in another quarterback and you have kind of like an Indianapolis Colts situation where you had Anthony Richardson, they brought in Daniel Jones just to get more competition in that room because it’s also was a overarching bigger deal this off seasonason was why don’t you bring in a backup quarterback? Like JJ’s struggling. He He’s clearly has no confidence. you clearly need to take a couple of days off, maybe a couple weeks off, and try to figure this thing out. But the fact that you don’t have a backup quarterback that is a veteran who you feel comfortable going to, this is the product we’re getting right now. Um, and it’s incredibly disappointing because quarterbacks fail organizations, and obviously it happens a lot, but organizations fail quarterbacks. And I almost wonder if the Vikings throwing him out there is just like just shooting his confidence. And you should have brought in another backup quarterback um this offseason. Instead, you’re rolling out with a kid who was 22 years old coming off a torn miniscus and you signed Carson Wentz before the season, about a week before the season started. Just the process there is still so frustrating. So listen, I’m not done with JJ by any means. Um also again, one more point I’ll make if I want to pay devil’s advocate to this whole situation. Think about three of the four teams he has just played. I’m not even going to count the Chicago Bears, but the Bears are eight and three. He was on the road against the Lions. He was at home against the Ravens, Bears at home, on the road against the Packers. Those are four really good football teams. It’s not like he’s playing in the NFC South and he gets to play the Saints, the Falcons, the Panthers. He has had a brutal go. Um, so again, just be patient. It looks terrible right now, but again, you saw that pass to Justin Jefferson late in the first half, which was such a big- time throw when his mechanics were right. But again, being an NFL quarterback, it’s about consistency. So, I’m not giving up hope just yet. But again, you guys want me to know your thoughts. Are you done with J McCarthy? Why for yes and for no? Um, one guy who will not be on the Vikings next season, and then I’ll talk about Quy and Kevin Oonnell here in a second. Uh, TJ Hawinson’s got to go. Um, the guy just doesn’t get open anymore. He is slowooted. There’s no physicality with him whatsoever. I can’t believe KC pulled out the tush push on that play. Um, but the Vikings are strapped for cash. And again, I I’m not trying to use this as a reason to dunk on TJ. This is more about just the cap space for the Vikings. You could cut him, save around $15 million. I think you’re going to have to do it and completely reset what you have offensively because it’s just not good enough. Um, I understand the quarterback player you’re getting is poor, but the Vikings got the highest drop percentage in the NFL over the last or this season over the last decade. Like the receivers haven’t been helping you out at all. Adam Thielen, I mean, he’ll retire. Harrison Smith will retire. They’ll get a lot of new blood in that organization or on that team. And then also, quickly, you’re on the offensive line. Um, the offensive line was doing really good in the first half getting downhill. They got their ass handed to them in the second half. What was concerning is Christian Darasol doesn’t look like the same guy coming off that torn ACL MCL and I think that was again like we’ve seen guys like specifically in the Vikings organization. Um we’ve seen guys like Adrien Peterson come back 10 months later from a torn ACL and he looks fantastic. Like sometimes, especially these bigger offensive linemen, he had a torn ACL MCL. Like CD, I mean, he got his ass handed to him by Michael Parsons today. Most offensive linemen would, but when you’re paying him top of the league money, you at least want him to compete with Christian Darasaw. So, I didn’t think he was too good today. Um, Donovan Jackson looks fine. Wolf Fry is a bust. Uh, that was a waste of a whole lot of money. Uh, Donovan Jackson, yeah, like I said, he’ll probably be all right, but Ryan Kelly injuries again and he even got blown up a couple times. Brian O’Neal’s getting old. Like I just I just think dark times are coming for Vikings fans and it’s a it’s a tough tough pill to swallow here. But I do want you guys to stay tuned though. I want to talk about Quito Fmensa and why the Vikings just need to fire him. Honestly, you should fire him tomorrow. Um I’ll talk about that here in a second. Uh first off, yeah, let’s talk about Kevin Okonnell, then I’ll talk about Quazy here. Um I still think Kevin Okcono is a fine head coach. Um, but he has just had some really questionable play calls this season. And I am honestly in the camp where if anybody is questioning play calling for any head coach in the NFL, but especially if you are a guy who has won a coach of the year, I just kind of tune it out. I’m like, “All right, you don’t know what you’re talking about.” Like KC is one of the best, you know, coaches in the league. But the Hawinson tush push was egregious. The second half play call coin on first down was egregious. I mean I understand JJ was bad but was he ever in second and nine in the second half? Was he ever in second and five? Like we have seen guys like Kyle Shanahan like what is Brock Perie always in? He’s in second and five. He’s in play action like KC like he got he had one good play action play today. He was committed to the run early in the game. I understand the script gets flipped on its head when freaking Miles Price muffs that punt, but the play calling was egregious. And he didn’t help his young quarterback out whatsoever. There was never anything easy. There’s never anything quick. Like, you still can’t consistently run the football. You got five good offensive linemen when they’re really all humming. You got Jordan Mason, you got Aaron Jones. I mean, you have uh Sorry, just got eyes on the Cowboys Eagles game right now. George Pickkins just had an unbelievable catch. Holy cow. Um Jesus. Um but like back to KOC, like you just got to be better, man. Like all right, you’re coach of the year, that doesn’t mean anything. And again, you think about the four years with Kevin Okonnell now. 2022, you win 13 games, one and done in the playoffs with Daniel Jones. 2023, you get the short end of the stick. Kirk Cousin stares his killies. Whatever. What are you going to do? 2024, you win 14 games. Then you make the decision to let Sam Darnold walk out the door for what? It’s like an awful decision. You thought anybody could play quarterback for this system. But let’s talk about the biggest issue in the Vikings organization. And frankly, I don’t even think it’s close. Um, this guy’s a fraud. Uh, Quaz is the worst GM in recent memory for the Minnesota Vikings. Um, can you name me one thing he has done? Well, legitimately get down to the comment section. Give me one thing he has done really, really well as a GM. One move. Andrew Van Ginkle, that’s a Brian Flores signing. Jonathan Gennard. Okay, that’s a good signing, but you also signed Jonathan Gennard because he let Denil Hunard walk out the door. Denil Hunter is significantly better than Jonathan Gernard. JJ McCarthy, Dallas Turner. Dallas Turner has popped over the last three weeks, but he looks like still a lot left to be desired. And JJ McCarthy looks like he could be Josh Rosen. His drafts suck. Javon Harrave, Jonathan Allen, they’re overpaid, they’re overweight, they’re out of shape. You gave them a combined five years, $110 million this off season. Will Riker, I will give him credit for that. Will Riker is a freaking dog, but that’s it. Legitimately, what has this guy done right as the Vikings GM? He has been so like he’s he’s benefited from KC and Brian Flores. What has he done? Please tell me. There was not a single move that this man has made where I’m like that’s a good move. Byron Murphy Jr. the contract he gave him this off seasonason. Terrible. And again, I’m playing Monday uh what do you call it? Monday morning quarterback right now where I’m criticizing, you know, half these moves. I probably agreed with them at the time, but that’s not my job. My job’s not to get it right. His job is to get it right. Byron Murphy Jr., terrible contract. Javon Hargrave, terrible contract. Jonathan Allen, terrible contract. Will Fry’s terrible contract. Ryan Kelly, terrible contract. Blake Cashman, he’s been awful this year. Um, what are you going to do? Um, I still like JG or not, uh, Cashman. Um, but Harrison Smith, I understand that’s a legend in the organization. be giving him 15 million dollars to come back. The guy sucks. And if the Vikings do right now, they have the 12th pick in the draft. Also, the Vikings have the same amount of wins as the Dolphins. They’re four and seven. If you have the 12th pick in the draft, are you letting this guy control another draft? Because that’s a top 12 pick in round one, top 12 pick in round two, top 12 pick in round three, four, five, six, and seven. Are you letting this man control another draft? Absolutely not. You can’t. He has spent 350 million $350 million on this roster. It’s more than any other GM in the league on this this roster specifically. And if you guys all still believe Kevin Oonnell, Brian Flores, some good coaches, then the roster stinks. But the roster is getting $350 million spent on it. It’s because of him. The moves he has made are terrible. He’s a terrible drafting GM. He gave TJ Hawinson $30 million or $20 million per year. That’s my TED talk. I had to get that off my chest. Uh bad time to be a Vikings fan. It’s truly disappointing. But if you guys made it to the end of today’s show, hit me with those skulls down below. We’re getting out of here. School bikes. [Music]

Are you done with J.J. McCarthy? Type ‘Y’ for Yes or ‘N’ for No
Agreed about J.J. Almost every good QB has struggled the first year
I AM NOT DONE WITH J.J. MAC!!
NEXT YEAR IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!! WATCH!!
JJ has great receivers but he can’t make it happen!
Been done with 9
JJM was a whiff, got to move on quickly like SF did with Lance. Bring in Mac Jones, draft a guy, do something. JJ isnt the answer tho, and he never will be.
No. JJ is only 22 years old. Everyone needs to relax. Remember Peyton Manning had a rough 1st year. Joe Montana had a rough first 2 years. It takes time. Everyone wants it now. Enjoy the process. Its a marathon not a race.
“Give JJ a couple weeks to reset his mind”. Seriously? The last few games should be used to assess his abilities. It is not about winning the games anymore (the season is over). It is all about JJ. Winning against the Giants with poor performance by JJ … who cares. JJ needs to show the positive trend, physical and mental, in the last games. Otherwise, the next season will be waisted as well.
i just wanna se trening and what thay do on trening and live game to see who mass up
The next 6 weeks will tell you whether or not you draft another QB or trade in FA.
You said it yourself earlier, Redmond was an absolute steal (his contract is worth less than a million … although it's only one year and he will certainly get a lot more expensive next year).
To a lesser degree I also consider LDR a good deal. He costs 1m/yr and is only in year 2 right now. He still has some room to grow, but if he keeps it up, he will be good value in the next two seasons.
Ryan Wright is also pretty solid this year, not sure how his contract compares to usual punter contracts.
So KAM has a couple of quite good UDFAs to show for, but that alone doesn't make up for the issues and you can't build up a team of UDFAs only either.
Not a hard conversation. When Kramer was drafted, he wasn't handed the keys until his third season. He had spot duty while they used veteran qbs to win 2 division titles. In his third season, he started and learned. By years 4 and 5, he was slinging it with Fouts and Sipe. Its ok to hold him back for a year or two.
Everyone pretending like they always wanted to keep Darnold is hilarious to me. I shoulda kept receipts from last year when 90% of the fanbase was against me for wanting to keep him.
How much of what JJ is doing is exactly what KOC wanted him to do? We have no clue. All we go on is what we see. Yes he looked bad. And highly disappointing, but many QB’s have looked bad their first year. If he has not improved by next year…we can talk at that point.
HOLY COPIUM, MAYBE JJ WAS JUST NOT A GOOD NFL QB. this is the same team that propped up Darnold but everyone who knew ball knew Darnold could play. just accept you guys made the worst decision letting Darnold leave. you shouldve paid him the contract he got and then develop jj in the background or just cut your losses and trade him. at least you guys had someone capable of winning you guys games
No, I'm not done with JJ. Give him another season, or half of one. Bench him at Thanksgiving 2026.
Y
Brosmere can't be worst develop him
Trade jj sooner than later before it is too late
Max brosemer we need to put them in I think he'll win some games 💀💯💯
McCarthy sucks. Maybe if they took in to consideration that he won in college because he cheated and wasn't good to begin with, maybe then he'd be ruining someone elses NFL team.
Im in my 60 s dont have time to nurcher another QB.waited long enuf for cousins to get better never happen
I think Carson Wentz is the answer. Sign him to a long-term contract. Then trade for Shedeur Sanders and sign him to a long-term contract. Problems solved!!!
Tank this season. Grab a better QB in the draft. IDK care. I’m done with 9.
JJM is ass. He neess to be benched.
Koc's play calling is bad because he does not have a QB to throw accurate balls. Top priority in the NFL. They put JJ on concussion for a reason, he is broken. I disagree, there is a excellent support system, its just that JJ is not accurate.
Not sure if id call Brian ONeil as old at 30. Huh?
Cut Thielen
At 64 years old, it’s the same Viking stuff. I lost hope this time
This is a Gm and coaching issue. JJM may have talent, but we'll never see it while he's in. purple. Coaching, strength/conditioning, management all indicate players will be at their best after they leave MN. Paying 4 below average offensive/defensive lineman shows the problems start at the top. Even the defense is uninspired, and rightly so.
Gonna ask one Question ! Where is Sam Howell ? Vikings deserve what they are getting because of their treatment of Sam Howell ! If they had given Sam a fair chance they would have been heading for the playoffs right now! POMO
I was done after the Falcons game. Some of us knew that the front office folks were defending the golden boy and their jobs by hiding his inept ability to read a defense. The front office threw Wentz to the wolves and now theyre gonna do the same to Brosmer, while claiming JJ is injured and hiding him from the truth. This is all on Kwesi and KOC.
JJ just isn't ready to be number 1 QB I commented earlier in season we should have gotten Rodgers for a season and have him take JJ under his wing and play JJ for a few plays when you can. And Patrick said he didn't believe that was the right thing to do clearly I was right he was wrong
