Big O and David Furones – The Future of The Miami Dolphins!
What did you just wake up or something, man? What uh what what late as hell was this? Uh what did I miss? Didn’t check your messages, bro. I may not have. Yeah, I know. I may. Of course not. Look at your eyes. You just woke up. All right. Well, no. I came down with something at the end of uh Spain. So, that that’s why I’m a little um whatever. But I have something. So, that’s why I was calling you because like uh you know, I wanted to do it a little earlier because I’m I’m hurting right now. So, you know, that’s why. Ah, so you and I both Yeah, I just got to you. I just got hit with a cold yesterday, bro. It just it just like it just piled on me yesterday. It was brutal. And so now I’m now I’m hurting right now. So anyway, all right, let’s get to it. Um obviously by week uh made a couple of moves uh minor moves uh overall. Uh what are you hearing um future-wise about this team? because that’s kind of what a lot of people are worried about is what is Stephen Ross going to do and most of us can’t even figure out what the hell he’s thinking. So, your thoughts on that? Well, I think Stephen Ross is uh letting the season play out. Uh clearly he he likes Mike McDaniel. I think that’s been made clear through uh both what’s been put out there nationally, his actions themselves. Um so, uh Chris Greer was the one to be let go. So, uh, he he he clearly didn’t want to commit to the all right, both of them go down together at this point. So, McDaniel’s getting the the rest of the season. And for him, from his perspective, I think it’s so far so good as far as trying to keep his job. Uh, and I know you don’t like to hear that, but uh, the impressive win against Buffalo, which now we see, uh, watching last night’s game, uh, they’re really struggling and looking like they have a lot of problems of their own. But David, some people in the media and some and a lot of fans, they make it sound like the quarterback does it all. Well, why didn’t why didn’t Josh Allen bail him out yesterday? I mean, he doesn’t, right? I mean, that’s that’s how they’re supposed, you know, they they expect Tua to do it all for them. So, isn’t that what Josh Allen does? I’m just wondering. Yeah. And and I was thinking as Josh Allen had that play where he almost got hurt and he was taking sack after sack. What was it? Eight in total. Uh like if the if the Bills have Josh Allen go down, that might be like a bottom five roster in the NFL, honestly. like like Josh Allen does so much for them to to save them. Like honestly, if if Josh Allen ever were to go down, they’d be down at the bottom. They’d be in the dumps of the league. Seriously. So, uh and and then that’s with James Cook. Like, if they also lose James Cook, then forget about it. They’re they’re they’re down there with like the Jets and Titans and and Saints. But, um yeah. No. Uh, but as far as uh the the Dolphins, then I think Chad Champ Kelly, one of the most important things for him is he wants to show how well he can work with Mike McDaniel. So, I think that’s telling in terms of at least the way he sees things. And maybe he he didn’t say it to the few local reporters that spoke to him uh that travel to to Madrid um in a small uh setting. Uh uh it seems like he understands like okay the guy at the top owner Steven Ross really likes Mike McDaniel. So let me show like I can go and go about this process the right way working with him. U almost like that’s the way to uh to retain the job permanently and shed the interim label. So something to look out for. Uh the interim GM can only do so much midway through a year uh when uh they are they are brought in to take over um days before the trade deadline. Um makes one trade, holds off on some others. Those calls have uh appear to be pretty good as far as keeping Jaylen Wadd uh Devon Aan. So, um, it’s tough to judge an interimm GM off, uh, the second half of a season, but I think Steven Ross just wants to see the process of how things play out in front of him and then judge based off that sample size uh, how to run it back next year. Have we turned the corner on the offense? Is he going to stick to the run? You hope so, right? I mean, that’s why you got Daniel Brunskill in there uh in these jumbo packages so that you could really pound the rock and uh and let Devon do his thing with with an extra lineman blocking and uh now Julian Hill is is in there again. Although re-watching that screen, there were some key plays where he was uh not blocking uh effectively uh when they needed him to. And that’s one of the things that they need him to do since he’s not necessarily a pass catching uh tight end. So, the inclusion of Daniel Brunskill, I think we’ve seen a lot of strides like, “Hey, Larry Borham had a great game at right tackle this past game.” So, uh, now that’s with Austin Jackson. The caveat that Austin Jackson is working his way back. So, um, uh, significant timing for for Larry Borham to to then have his best game. Uh, we know what Patrick Paul is doing. We know what Aan Brewer is capable of. Jonah Samayia maybe trying to to uh, to find something uh, halfway through his rookie season. I think Cole Strange had some some uh rough uh points, especially in down short yardage near the goal line, uh situations, uh especially late, but this is this offensive line can run block. We we’re seeing it. So, I think Mike McDaniel needs to go to it. And I feel like the exclusion of Tyreek Hill once he went down, that kind of forced his hand where Mike McDaniel now had to go to what has always been his bread and butter as the run game coordinator with the 49ers and and then offensive coordinator when he used Debo Samuel uh in those uh intriguing, innovative wide receiver runs. Like that’s the backbone of what got him to the heights of of being a head coach in the first place. So, he kind of forced his way to going back into that and uh and not having Tyreek Hill kind of um kind of led him to that. It seems it’s a shame because if you had Tyreek Hill, it would have been better to do what you’re doing now because it becomes an even bigger threat overall because now you have two guys that can create havoc out there. Uh, I just wish he would have, you know, committed to this four years ago because I think we would have had so a completely different team, maybe different results, maybe even a playoff win, you know, dare I say. So now, does Larry Boram move inside? Because Cole Strange sucks. Okay. While Boram has been serviceable. So, move Borum inside and use Jackson as your right tackle. That’s what I would do. What do you think they’re going to do? That’s interesting because Larry Borm has uh done so much at guard. Um, so now with the Dolphins, I’ve pretty much seen him work uh exclusively. I have to think back to training camp uh because definitely Austin Jackson went down first game. Larry Borne has been uh playing there at right tackle the whole time. So, um I I don’t remember a lot of uh guard snaps in training camp. It was a long time ago now, but he’s pretty much been a tackle for the Dolphins the way they see him. But that is an interesting thing that maybe given some extra time over the by-week, you could try to uh to get him in there, see what you do, see if see what it looks like. Um although I mean players are kind of I mean they are off. Uh, so maybe on the Monday you could you could come back play with it. If that’s an idea, do you know what a disaster it is for a quarterback to have two guards that really can’t hold up? That sucks, dude. I know. Especially because the pressure is coming from the interior. So the quickest uh way from point A to point B is a straight line. So that’s the straightest it gets is when it’s coming from from up the middle. So, so if Borm can give me a little bit better better, you know, coverage for for Tua than Cole Strange does and Savaniah has gotten slightly better, but he still has his problems, which people again, it’s like you lay you lay it all on Tua and it’s like, bro, you just don’t understand football. And if your guards are weak, which the guards are weak, it just creates, you know, it’s just like I I hear people all, oh, well, you know, if he can’t get past his first read, he doesn’t have time to get past his first read. You, you know, it’s like it’s just some stupid that is said out there and you don’t you’re not watching. It’s like the kid is pressured constantly. So he has two seconds to throw and it just in two seconds you snap and as you plant the two seconds are up already, dude. And you see other guys that they’re standing out there for three or four seconds to a never has that So he has to go through his first read and barely get to his second because he just doesn’t have enough time. And if you don’t have guards that can actually stop the people in the middle, then it just becomes impossible for any quarterback. Even for Josh Allen, it becomes impossible. And he’s a mobile guy. An immobile guy is dead in the water. And so to me, if Larry Borum is a better player than Cole Strange, then it’s a no-brainer that you move him inside. That’s all I I need to give my quarterback more time to pass the ball. And And this guy has lived under duress for four straight years, dude. Four straight years. Yeah. It’s just a matter of uh the uh the continuity of the offensive line, which I think coaches are big on is that if you’ve had a guy working at tackle, then um sh even though he has experience in guard, I think maybe they would only want to put him in that position if it were like an in-game situation where you were forced into uh playing him at guard. So, I think they’ve kind of like settled on him at tackle. Um, so the other thing is now Mike McDaniel has also hinted at maybe more players coming back on the other side of the buy as in terms of opening up their practice windows, guys on IR and such. So, it was already Austin Jackson uh returning to practice before the buy. Now, he’s got the by-week to recover some more uh get that toe right as far as all the uh the movements and the footwork that he’s got to work on at right tackle. So now I’m I’m kind of feeling optimistic. One that he he can then then return, but then maybe is it a James Daniels coming back uh at right guard. Now he would only have one week, you know, three three days of practice to uh to then get it going. Um maybe coming off the buy, I don’t know how it works as far as the Monday if they come back Monday in practice and then uh let him get going. Uh but that’s another caveat too is uh James Daniels uh his return. So, would you really be talking about like one game of if it’s between and Larry Bournem? Then, yeah, I mean, it helps if you if you feel like you got something, but if if it seems like he’d be too uncomfortable, then just roll with what you’ve been doing and um and then bridge it to when uh James Daniels uh hopefully soon comes back. Yeah. Because it’s just it’s brutal for Tua that the weakest spots of his line are the two guards. just like, you know, dude, that’s that’s that’s just a that that’s a recipe for disaster is what it is, you know, and and unfortunately that’s that that just doesn’t fly for for a kid like that. And he’s been used to it. Tu has been been used to it. Uh like you said, he gets the ball out fast, brother. I I understand that, but that’s that doesn’t make it right. You know what I mean? put him in that position and he has excelled where he’s led the league in yards and touchdowns and in completion percentage. He’s been in the MVP conversation. This is with a shitty coach, a shitty offensive line, no dedication to the running game, you know, inconsistent receivers, no tight end barely ever involved, only one year where they got him involved in three quarters of the season. You know, th these are things that just hurt your quarterback constantly. And when you look around the league, you see other guys that have an offensive line, have a tight end constantly, have receivers, and know what the hell they’re doing. They’re they’re organized. They’re they’re they’re getting plays in on time. All the kind of stuff that helps your quarterback actually like succeed. You know, we don’t do those things here. And that’s why under four almost four years now that’s what’s unfair to the kid, dude. I mean, do you think Tanahill could survive in those four year? He would have never ever come close to doing what what what this kid has done in the four years. He’sn’t going to lead the league in in touchdowns or in yards or in completion percentage. that that that’s the part that people don’t spin it the other way that in spite of all the that he has to deal with, he’s actually done pretty damn good considering the crap that he has to deal with. And so to me, that’s why I would put Larry Borum in there. Make life easy for your quarterback, dude. Don’t make it harder for him. And Cole Strange makes it harder for him. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I’m with you. No, Tua has had a lot to uh to overcome. um from the the head coach he started with that wanted to tear him down to offensive line he’s been uh the receiving core that he started with before you know you so much for a head coach to hate you so much to start you against the Rams bro that is just that’s some evil right there dude that is evil evil right there that you saved it to the Rams game and that’s when you wanted to start him against that defensive line with that offensive line. That’s offensive, you know. That’s that’s is that’s setting up your young quarterback to fail, you know, and that’s ex and I think they won that game. They won that game off the defense and yeah, Andrew Van Genko had a defensive touchdown. Did they also score on special teams? I I’m not sure. I remember they won that game. I I remember they won game and it’s just like it’s ridiculous, man. It re it really is. But it it is what it is. All right. Was it a fumble to his first snap? Uh was a fumble as a as a starter either fumble or a takeaway of some sort. Uh yeah, I think so. From what I recall. Yeah. Yeah. The pandemic was a wild time. It that was a wild time when you think about it. All right. What What do you got going on in the Sentinel during the by-week? Yeah, actually. Uh, I mean, taking it easy over the weekend, but I did just uh write something on uh Jordan Brooks. Um, how he’s leading the league in tackles, had that big uh 20 tackle performance, so I thought it was a good time, especially on the by-week. Um, he’s I I He’s doing Zack Thomas like things. Again, don’t don’t get it twisted. He’s I’m not saying he’s Zach Thomas, but the comparisons there of Texas Tech guy uh coming to lead to be a Dolphins linebacker, the leader that he is. Um so, uh leading the league in tackles, like he’s putting up tackle numbers. He he’s on pace to surpass like the the career tackles high in a season for Zack Thomas himself. Uh, I know there’s a lot uh of what goes into what’s around him on the Dolphins defense and how he has to bail everyone out, get the guy down that someone else doesn’t, but um, boy, what a player he is, what a leader. So, I just want to story. Did you mention that? Did you give Chris Greer any credit for getting rid of one linebacker for this linebacker? I’m just Yeah, because you know, you got rid of Baker and you got him and that was a serious ass upgrade. like a serious upgrade and cheap you got him also you didn’t really pay heavy money but you know for a guy that’s malign so much you know once in a while you might might as well give him a little love for some of the things because that was one hell of a move getting rid of Baker and then signing this guy yeah well think about it for uh 51 of the 53 players on the Dolphins active roster Chris Greer had a hand in bringing in so whatever’s good that was that was on him whatever’s bad that was also on him. Um, you know, the good, bad, and the ugly. So, uh, yeah, it’s it’s only Andre Carter and the the new corner that they brought in because Juju Brent’s got her, AJ Green, those are those are the guys that are that do not have anything to do with with Chris Greer. So, yeah, I mean, I think everyone’s got to understand, hey, anything good on this roster, Chris Beer, yeah, did that. He did that, right? All right. Follow him on Twitter at David Feronis and catch his work there at the South Florida Sunset. Have a fantastic weekend. We’ll catch up next week, brother. Yes, sir. You got it. There you go. The future belongs to Jennifer the daughter lol
The future is bleak as long as Ross is the owner.
You say sweet nothing's in Ross ears. You are good as gold. Mike McDaniel finding new ways not to win. Miami Dolphins are the official Minor League Team in the NFL.
Is Larry Borom gonna jump to right guard when Austin Jackson comes back
The Dolphins should use their 1st round and 2nd round on RT RG.
They put in Tua and Fitzpatrick was balling out. The worst thing ever happened in the NFL. If that was on Brian Flores then I am glad we dumped him.
Bills are a joke. They have the 3rd easiest schedule in NFL and they play all of their tough games at home. They got lucky against the Ravens, The beat the Chiefs with three OL out and their starting RB out, and the refs killed Tampa
If Tua's line sucks – then he needs to learn how to scramble. If he can't scramble then he shouldn't be an NFL QB.
Tua’s the best quarterback since Marino
There is no hope for Big O if he continues promoting the Tua propaganda. No hope! Tua is an average NFL starter at best and Big O is still trying to convince us he’s the next Joe Montana. It’s nauseating to listen to week after week.
My god Big O, you have got to lay off the Tua koolaid. Embarrassing at this point the way you can spin this stuff.
You don’t pay a quarterback that much money to hand the ball off. So honestly ask yourself who deserves that big contract. My money is on Achane. Miami failed big time.
If they keep this interim GM there is no hope for the future…!
